1st January start, anyone up for it?

I can't put it off much longer, I am getting very large and uncomfortable. My eating has become very out of control.

I need to shift around 4 stone, not sure exactly as I am to scared to get on the scales.

Anyone want to join me for a big new start and weigh in on Sunday 1st January?

Well done @TheWayItAllWouldGo that is a brilliant loss for mid month- Am I the only one who thinks January seems twice as long as other months 🙄 I am still on it but made a homemade pizza for dinner trying to convince myself it was healthy - tasty though 🤗

Philandbill · 14/01/2023 19:27

I'm eating lower carb -not keto though- and using Slimpod. Not weighing myself but have been eating more healthily and in less volume since Jan 1st. Family had fish and chips tonight and I had ham omelette and salad and really didn't want the chips at all. I've got lots of weight to lose so this needs to be slow and steady or I will give up.

Still no weight loss for me 😩. It has been a bit of an up and down week though. I’ve been really busy with work and an assignment I have due for a degree I’m doing. My eldest is in her final year of primary school so have had to take her to high school open nights a couple of evenings, and we’re having work done on the house so have had decamp to a coffee shop to work now and again when the noise got too bad! So that has meant not much time for meal planning and too much food on the go. But on the plus side, I have kept up with exercise, just finished week 3 of c25k and have added in a kettlebell workout. Also still sticking to dry January and drinking tons of water.

Next week will be easier so hopefully I’ll finally start to see movement in the right direction! Well done to everyone on some fantastic losses so far, I’ve not posted much this week but have been checking in now and again for motivation!

GlumShoe · 15/01/2023 09:14

Hi all, just been catching up and you're all doing so well! I usually lose focus on my goals a couple of weeks in but seeing how well everyone is doing really helps me stay on track.

I'd normally weigh in on Sunday but I've just discovered that my scales are broken. I've been on and off them about 15 times, each time with a different result ranging from a (very unlikely) 9st 7lbs to 10st 6lbs. I've changed the battery and it's made no difference, so I'm going to pick a new set up from Argos this afternoon and weigh in tomorrow.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 15/01/2023 09:19

Morning folks.
Well done to @TheWayItAllWouldGo on your super loss, and everyone else who's had success. Keep at it to anyone who's not quite seen the scales budge.

Start weight: 13st 10
This week's loss: 2lb
Total loss : 5lb
Current weight: 13st 5

scaredysquiggle · 15/01/2023 11:55

Start weight: 10st 10
Week 1 10st 5.4
Week 2 10st 5.4
This week's loss: 0
Total loss : 4.6lbs

Disappointing. I stayed under my calorie limit and have gone back to exercising daily at the gym.

Minnie123456 · 15/01/2023 12:04

1lb loss this week, still behind my target though as didn't loose anything last week.

I cut down on my snacking this week, I can never seem to cut out snacking completely as I get really bad cravings for chocolate etc that don't go away until I give in, so i'm thinking gradually cuttting them out and trying to eat healthier snacks.
Haven't managed to get out walking yet as weather as been awful and I don't like walking in the dark on my own. It is a lovely morning but we are on a go slow lol.
Can anyone recommend some free/not expensive walking challenges/apps that I could get to maybe encourage to walk more?

recklessgran · 15/01/2023 12:17

Morning all. It's actually only 6 days since I restarted last Monday but as Sunday is everyone's weigh day here I'm really happy to report that I have lost 3 pounds so am now 14st 8lbs down from 14st 11lbs. I've been intermittent fasting and low carbing but not calorie counting yet as trying to get in the groove of no bread, potatoes, pasta, rice etc first before I restrict calories. At the moment I'm just eating more or less as much as I want as long as not obvious carbs but mainly high protein to stave off hunger.
Tip for you - I've been snacking on celery sticks and pate - I had no idea that pate was low calorie and therefore a much better option for me than cheese.
Wedding dress shopping tomorrow p.m with my lovely DD3 so I'll need to travel to the big city to meet her after she finishes work [teacher] but will take a Scotch egg and a couple of chicken thighs with me to prevent me from unsuitable pit stops.
I really need to stay focused as I'm determined not to be the fat mother of the bride! Some of you lot are very inspirational so hopefully will help keep me on track.

JoyPeaceHealth · 15/01/2023 12:26

On weigh in day I'm not weighing! I had wine, 3 chocolates, pizza and chips last night. But this morning I'm still in the zone.

🙏

JoyPeaceHealth · 15/01/2023 21:39

Good day today. Back at work tomorrow and aiming to fit in 20 minutes of pilates as well. It's not the 20 minutes, it's the feeling like it on a work day.

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 15/01/2023 22:02

Hello

I haven't been able to access my account so have been reading but not posting. It's great to see more losses and that those of you like @scaredysquiggle and @sylv165 who have stayed the same are sticking to it. It's also good that some of you ( @recklessgran & @JoyPeaceHealth) are aiming for particular events as I'm the same. It's all helping me keep on track, well, more or less!
@JoyPeaceHealth did the sprouts have an impact in the end?
@Minnie - any luck in finding any walking challenges? I could do with something like that.

All of last week the numbers were creeping down and on Friday I was delighted to stand on the scales and see 11st4 which meant I'd lost half a stone. The fact that my trousers were digging in painfully all day meant that I couldn't lose sight of the longer term goal and relax and was actually pleased with myself as not only did I do my Zumba class on Friday but then a session on the cross trainer too.
Saturday was also pretty good although we were having friends over for dinner so eating later than I have been recently so I ended up having some toast before they came so that I didn't snaffle the crisps and things. That worked. But then I had a second glass of wine and, it seems, lost all reason when it came to making sensible decisions about food. Oh, and whether to have more wine or not.
It turned into a late night and lack of sleep and a mild hangover has completely sent me off the rails. I should have got up & gone out for a walk as I think engaging in life and doing some gentle exercise would have reminded me why I was doing this. Instead, I largely sat on the sofa other than when I was making forays into the kitchen. I was back in my old habits of doing my best impression of a sugar addicted very hungry caterpillar. I have at least noticed that I don't feel any better for eating in this way so, hopefully, I'll be able to make some more informed decisions another time .
Anyway, the past 24 hours mean I'm not looking forward to standing on the scales tomorrow.
I must remind myself I'm in this for the long haul

Imgonnabeslim23 · 16/01/2023 06:36

Weighed in and put on 6oz! Oh well, will keep going 10st 8.8

PeppermintChoc · 16/01/2023 07:19

I stayed the same yesterday after a not great week. Back on it this week!

Yesterday I knew we were having dinner out and let that influence my whole day - I.e sod it its a write off. A poor mentality of mine.

I did go out for a 3mi walk with my toddler in a backpack which was great for calorie burn - burned twice as much as usual!

Really want to get on it this week. Have a week of good meals planned!

9st 9.8lb aim is 9st 1lb (or thereabouts).

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 16/01/2023 07:20

Wow (in a bad way!). Weighed in as half a pound more than last week and a whopping 3.5lbs more than Friday!!! I know it's mainly water etc but I need to do some serious thinking about how I can avoid behaving like that again. I want to be able to have a drink with friends without falling into a bucket of carbs & saturated fat the next day.
Sobering reading this morning that over half of all 65 year olds have two long term health conditions. My immediate reason for wanting to lose weight is vanity but the underlying reason is health. Starkly seeing how much damage a 24hr period can do might be a bit of a wake up call. I didn't nutracheck as so much of what I was eating was home made and unmeasured portions but I might try and at least guess this evening.
Onwards & upwards. Back on the shakes today, gym this evening and supper is basically a mound of cabbage, sprouts & cauliflower.

Eggsley · 16/01/2023 07:51

Morning all, I'm still here, had a busy weekend and forgot to weigh in yesterday. 12st 9.2lbs this morning, which is 6.4lbs down since 1st Jan. Will catch up on the thread later. Wishing everyone a great day!

GlumShoe · 16/01/2023 07:51

Got on my new scales today to see a 2 and a quarter pound loss! And just to prove my other ones were broken, I got on them a few times and had lost 9lb, gained 3lb, gained 3 1/2lb and lost 5lb!

Anyway, I'm happy with my 2 1/4lb off.

Start: 10st 2.5lb
This week: -2.25lb
New weight: 9st 11.25lb

Good luck to everyone this week! We can do it! 💪

JoyPeaceHealth · 16/01/2023 08:07

Very slow jprogress here, 68.3
I was 68.1 this time last week.

To be positive I've still lost 2.2 kilos since about 29th Dec.

This last week has been a total stall but even on my day off I didnt go mad. 😡

This has to be the week I see results on the scales.

I have my prepped l7nch with me so I'm still in the zone.

JoyPeaceHealth · 16/01/2023 08:09

Feel your pain @2023istheyearigetmyacttogether

sylv165 · 16/01/2023 09:09

Don't be too disheartened @2023istheyearigetmyacttogether. I think that is one of the reasons weighing weekly can be difficult, because we all have daily fluctuations from hormones, water weight, etc. It's not that you have actually gained that weight, you just picked a bad day to weigh!

scaredysquiggle · 16/01/2023 10:58

I agree re the weight fluctuations and it affecting my week ahead. I ate an entire of sharing bag of fruit gums whilst driving my kids to a match yesterday Angry

I got out the tape measure last night to see if there had been some change there. I last did it on Jan 3rd and was surprised I've lost an inch from my hips and 1 cm from my thighs. Nothing from my waist yet but happy to be losing some of my arse.

This morning I'm half a pound lighter then yesterday which has spurred me into keeping going. Just ran 5.5km (not in my best time but still chesty from Covid).

Am about to do some weights and I have yoga later. I have to say it is a full time job losing weight and being healthy. Hats off to those of you doing this and working and being a parent.

Daisychops · 16/01/2023 11:00

Well done everyone, some great losses here, you are inspiring me to keep checking in even though I've not really started yet. Feeling rough all last week and gained 0.2lb on yesterdays weigh in but a lot better today so I'm going to start slimming world properly now!
@2023istheyearigetmyacttogether don't worry, if we're in this for the long haul that will happen!
@recklessgran thanks for that pate tip, who would have thought!!! Definitely going to get some in!

recklessgran · 16/01/2023 11:06

@Daisychops I know I was gobsmacked too at how low calorie it is.

PeppermintChoc · 16/01/2023 11:29

I remember always staying the same at my TOTM and then having a “double loss” the week following. I don’t have regular cycles now but just did my depo shot this morning which can mess things up so hope it doesn’t.

Daisychops · 16/01/2023 11:50

There is a good article on pinch of nom website that explains the whoosh effect and why weight loss isn't linear

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 16/01/2023 18:20

Thanks for all of the support. I've been reading the Pinch of Nom book @Daisychops and have been reminding me of many of the things in there and then, by chance, was listening to Chris Evans this morning who was talking about trusting a process even if you don't immediately see the results. I also got my period so feel I'm excused some of the rubbish that I ate yesterday. I'm back on it again today!
@JoyPeaceHealth last time I properly lost weight (the same stone as I'm trying to lose now) I spent 8 weeks at exactly the same weight but went down a dress size during that time. It was really odd. Have you noticed any other changes?
