10st plus to lose - part 2

ShinyPikachu · 22/11/2022 22:53

A really unimaginative title but the old thread is almost full and we don't want to lose people who have joined us already.

Anyone else with a large amount to lose is more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly bunch and whatever way you're trying, that doesn't matter to us. It's about the results and more importantly the support.

Brilliant losses so far everyone. Glad to hear BP talk went well @ShinyPikachu

@Sunshineandrainbow thanks for the lunch ideas, these are brill and actually I bought myself a wee fresh soup for a couple of days this week! More importantly, sending hugs and hope offloading helped a little.

Hoping to get another 1-2lbs this week after a heavy weekend (oops). Going away for a few days on 23rd Aug and would love to be 4-5lbs lighter!

Readinstead · 10/08/2023 12:42

Hi all, hope everyone is having a good week. We have sun and warmth today so that's a win. DH has a few days off and has taken the dgc to the park so I have wonderful peace and quiet for a while.
End of week 6 weigh in:

SW: 108.3kg (238.8lbs)
CW: 98.1kg (216.3lbs)
Loss this week: 0.8kg
Loss to date: 10.2kg

I measured my waist on 5th August and have lost 3.5cm in a month - I was slightly disappointed with this because my waist is huge and I was hoping for a bigger loss.
I must be losing some weight from my belly and hips though, because I tried on a jacket and could zip it all the way up (way to tight to wear still) whereas last month I couldn't even get the zip to meet at the bottom!

PlumpAndGrump · 11/08/2023 12:28

What a great loss in cm and a win with the jacket. Well done @Readinstead

I realise I didn't update last week but I lost 4lbs so now down 12lbs and due to weigh in again on Monday.

Sw: 20st 4lbs
Cw: 19st 7lbs

I had a bit of a low day yesterday and one thing that always cheers me up is baking. My two year old loves to bake with me so we made a small cake and 10 cupcakes. I had a small slice of the cake and the cupcakes were frozen for another day for the kids to decorate them so I think overall that was a win. DH and the kids demolished the rest of the cake yesterday so at least it's gone and I'm feeling good again today.

We've been doing hello fresh / gousto boxes for dinners recently and found it so good for portion control and the calories are counted already. Plus the food is yummy.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 11/08/2023 18:52

I'm preparing myself for a gain tomorrow (because I'm still weighing myself every 5 minutes). I need to know be disappointed as I know I'm still eating properly, I'm visibly smaller than last week as people have commented, and most importantly I'm in less pain when I do things.

I think my scales troll me. I get different numbers depending on where on the floor I put them and sometimes different numbers if I step off and immediately step back on again.

So I think I need to start measuring myself instead as that would be more reliable than my evil scales.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 11/08/2023 18:53
  • I need to NOT be disappointed ...
MrTiddlesTheCat · 12/08/2023 07:54

128.5 kg, so a 0,4 kg increase for me this week.

Echoes89 · 12/08/2023 09:33

@MrTiddlesTheCat have you got a hard surface where you can leave the scales, so you always weigh yourself on the same tile/laminate or whatever? Soft surfaces can throw the figures and I think sometimes when you move the scale the first reading can be a bit wrong, so if you step off and back on 3 times, you might find the first reading is different but the second and third are the same. I had this with my scales when they were leaning against something and then put them on the floor after, seems to be way more consistent now I have them ready to use on the same tile.

I've been 12st 6.something for a few days, but I've been eating around 1800 calories the last few days (now some weight has come off my TDEE is a lot lower), on my period though this week, so not got the best self control at the moment with food. Trying to keep my calories around 1200 but if I'm gonna go over then I'm trying to at least keep them at the maintenance level to stop myself from gaining
Feel like it's taking forever now to lose a lb or 2. Really really want to be 6lbs down in 5 weeks

chalkyc2 · 12/08/2023 10:10

I agree re the position of the scales!! I carefully put mine in exactly the same place on a hard floor every morning - I know not everyone wants to weigh every morning but I find it helps keeps me on track.

22kg down here today. 31kg to go! I'm off on hols next week and thinking about how I'm going to manage - we're camping/in self catering cabins for 2 weeks so it's going to be tricky! But I certainly don't want to lose momentum. I have a self imposed target of getting to my target weight by February 2024 for a ski trip, it's a fairly tough target!

ShinyPikachu · 12/08/2023 10:56

Well done on losses!

@MrTiddlesTheCat - I agree with keeping the scales in the same position. The other option is new scales if you can afford them? I have WW branded Conair scales and they're annoyingly accurate, I've tried them in different positions (and always use them on a hard floor) and they always say exactly the same thing. It's annoying when I've had a bad week and try to step off and on again and see the same number though. BlushGrin

I do tend to keep them on the floor without moving them now as it's just easier to step up on them without dragging them out from somewhere though, especially because my mobility in the morning when I like to weigh in isn't the best.

OP posts:
MrTiddlesTheCat · 12/08/2023 17:17

They're on a wooden floor and I try to line them up with marks on the floor. But I do have to get them out every time, so I'll see if it's a first go thing. They're new scales as the old ones did the same, which is why I think it's some scales vendetta against me. Or it's because I'm so fat. They appear to work fine for slim DH.

PlumpAndGrump · 12/08/2023 20:06

I have a 6lb kettle bell that I put on the scale first to kind of calibrate them? Is there something you could use to do that? That way you know they are reading correctly.

I really need to get back to kettlebell workouts but last time I did one I really hurt my shoulder. Anyone have any experience or can recommend some good exercise vids on YouTube?

I've done well today considering I got 3 hours sleep last night. Anxiety through the roof as well as children waking during the night. So many times I've wanted to dive into the biscuit tin but haven't.

Spinach and chickpea curry from Gousto box for dinner and then bath and bed for me tonight. Hope you've all had a good day x

Sportycustard · 12/08/2023 21:20

Hello! Can I join you all? I'm one stone into at least a ten stone weight loss journey. I could do with some non judgmental company on this journey.

I have had a rough couple of years health wise and haven't been able to exercise and have had many courses of steroids. Health seems to have turned a bit of a corner so I am hoping to address some of the weight now.

SecondStarOnTheRight · 06/08/2023 21:16

Weigh in day for me today, and I've hit my first stone marker! Still a long way to go but it's started well. Slowing down a bit now but I think its due to the fact the water weight has gone but I plan to step up on exercise, its just calorie counting at the moment.

Day 31 and another 4lb loss. I've had a bad week this week in the sense of craving bad food but I'm starting to feel a bit less hungry overall with the calorie deficit. I'm pleased with the start I've made over this last month, but I'm really hoping that I can keep it up! Seeing the updates on here is definitely a boost to keep going.

Hi all, sorry I was MIA this week - had a crazy week in work and just not feeling it. Will report back in on Friday and hope the damage isn't too bad!!!

Well done everyone on your continued losses - it's lovely to check in on this great group and feel the support!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 13/08/2023 20:59

Welcome Sportycustard, and well done everyone who's managed to lose.

Readinstead · 13/08/2023 22:25

An odd day today foodwise, it was my dgc's birthday I missed lunch (my meal 1 as I'm doing 16:8) as we ended up at a local activity centre with the birthday child et al. I was very hungry by 6pm when we had a buffet style birthday meal with the usual sandwiches, pizza, sausage rolls etc. I tried to be good and ate more salad than usual but unfortunately also ate crisps, cocktail sausages, sandwiches and had a slice of pizza and a piece of homemade birthday cake (but did give the smarties and chocolate fingers decorations to my dgc) I avoided the sausage rolls and trifle . Until now I have only drunk 3 cups of coffee so must try and drink a couple of glasses of water before bedtime. I don't have a clue about calorie intake today so will just write it off and carry on tomorrow.
The birthday child had "the best day ever" so that is the most important thing

ShinyPikachu · 13/08/2023 23:03

Welcome @Sportycustard

Well done @SecondStarOnTheRight

@Readinstead - I'm glad the birthday child had a great day. I tend to not count anything on days like that, as long as the other days are good it's usually fine.

Weigh in for me tomorrow then school starts back this week so I can get back to some sort of routine which will definitely help me.

PlumpAndGrump · 13/08/2023 23:18

@ShinyPikachu
Also weighing in again tomorrow & looking forward to getting back to a routine when kids go back on Wednesday.

My plan is to get out walking more again with the little one in the buggy.

Will update with (hopefully) a loss in the morning.

Sportycustard · 14/08/2023 07:23

A non scale victory for me yesterday.

One of the things I struggle with being bigger is the poor choice and poor quality of clothes for my size. I like to think I'm stylish and black polyester tent dresses don't do it for me.

So I ordered two beautiful organic cotton dresses in the White Stuff sale in their biggest size - expecting to have to send them back. But they fit! They're a good thick cotton and have long sleeves so they'll see me stylishly into the Autumn. They're also perfect for the job I got offered last week. It's a big job and will put me more in the spotlight in my industry so I needed the confidence boost.

Now just got to turn them up about 10 inches because I'm a short arse and they're designed for giants!

ShinyPikachu · 14/08/2023 07:39

I love finding cute clothing @Sportycustard - well done!

I had a small gain this week (0.6lb) but I'm feeling really bloated today so that's possibly all it is. I might try a week of daily weighing to try and keep me on track this week.

I've recently come across London Unlimited for dresses. They're most jersey, so comfortable, but really nice shapes and patterns. I bought an emerald green one that I thought made me look amazing for a fat person. Wore it out to lunch and a stranger tapped me on the shoulder to compliment me and ask where I bought my dress. Never had that before.

PreesHeath · 14/08/2023 10:22

Well done, losers, commiserations gainers, and keep on keeping on everyone - we're in it for the long game.

I've had a good week, lost 3.5lbs, and got my BMI under 40.

Thanks for you support after my last post.
I have never considered counselling but after it was suggested I had a google and found a support group for survivors of abuse. I am starting an 8 week course in September and really looking forward to it.

I didn't weigh this week but trying hard to stay on track and no binges.

I made a fab Joe Wicks veggie chilli last week and had it every day for lunch. Made it again today but sadly made it far to hot so need to try and cool it down.

ShinyPikachu · 15/08/2023 16:39

Well done @PreesHeath

I'll have to have a look at those dresses @MrTiddlesTheCat

The counselling group sounds great @Sunshineandrainbow - I hope it helps you. Flowers

I did weigh again this morning and I'm back down to where I was last week so I might have been right with the bloating being the issue. I'll see how the rest of the week goes.
