Lose +/- 7lbs with me

Would anyone like to join me in losing just a few pounds?

Despite cutting back on biscuits and alcohol and keeping active, I've put on 8lbs due to the menopause - most of it feels like it's around my middle and I'm not feeling good about it.

I enjoy walking, so am going to try and to a bit more on top of my usual exercise, also some toning exercises for my stomach/core. Not willing to starve myself, so going to try and make better choices/have slightly smaller portions.

I weighed in this morning at 158lbs which is a measley 2lb loss since i started about 4 weeks ago. 🤷‍♀️ tbf we did have kfc for dinner last night and i drank a whole bottle of SB. But still….

today, ran 15km and have done a further 5k steps pottering about and doing housework. I ate a polish cheese bread for my lunch, (if you’ve never had one, oh my, they are a delicious treat if not a bit weird: a sweet bread plait with soft cheese and raisins in it- bloody lovely, my “post run, went to supermarket” treat), a banana mid afternoon, and a huge roast dinner this evening. Very nice.

I’m all planned for the week but my primary objectives are: cut the carbs (not completely, but no potatoes/pasta/rice/sugar/bread); track my calories and stick to my allowance; exercise; lots of water.

easy right?

neverendinglauaundry · 04/12/2022 20:02

@thenewaveragebear1983 I totally understand the frustration, but 2lbs a month will add up & at this time of year I reckon it's a good achievement.
I've had a couple of days off from dieting. Back on it today.

1600 calories 14000 steps and a very short swim. Will weigh in tomorrow and hoping I've not gained over the weekend

neverendinglauaundry · 05/12/2022 07:23

No such luck! I've put on a pound over the weekend.

Will try to loose it again by Friday, which will be a big night out probably followed by hangover eating on Saturday.

GFLoser · 05/12/2022 07:28

It's getting tricky to balance now isn't it @ifonly4 with the festive events coming up. My work do is quite late on this year but I've got a birthday meal and at least two Christmas days out planned to navigate. I want to feel at my best for the work do (first one I've been to!) which is helping my focus. Having said that I've had a very off plan weekend, the only saving grace being I've stayed sober 😂
@neverendinglauaundrythe Polish bread sounds absolutely delicious, I love sweet and savoury!

GFLoser · 05/12/2022 07:30

Oh dear, accidentally posted while trying to sort tags out. Meant to say the Polish bread bit to @thenewaveragebear1983 and to @neverendinglauaundry hopefully the gain is a temporary blip!
I have not planned for this week and my fridge is bare, need to do a supermarket trip and work out what to eat!

ifonly4 · 05/12/2022 11:04

So double checked my weight again today and definitely put on 1.5lbs last week - frustrating as I thought it was my best week so far in terms of cutting back. I didn't exercise so much last week as I wasn't 100% but certainly eat less than any other week.

Anyway, start of another week and am determined to lose something this week.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/12/2022 18:05

I’ve had a good day today, feel like I have eaten a lot but everything has been weighed and tracked and I’m ending up at 1260 cals. The difference is definitely that I have eaten lots of protein and no stodgy crap.

I feel really tired today, I didn’t sleep well last night. I went for a walk this morning, and to the gym for circuits at lunchtime, but all afternoon I have just sat watching trashy tv and keeping warm by the fire.

GFLoser · 05/12/2022 20:20

Well that's bloody annoying @ifonly4 and doesn't seem fair if you've been on plan so well- could it be something wider that's scuppering things- thinking hormones first and foremost, maybe a bit of water retention? Frustrated for you.
It's noticeably dropped in temp though hasn't it @thenewaveragebear1983 if I hadn't had to go into work today I'd have been huddled under a blanket or two as well!
Managed to squeeze a supermarket trip in today so have lots of veg & some fresh meat to go at. I think I might make a big pot of chilli and stock the freezer with leftovers.
Accidentally doubled up on eggs- now have 18 to use in the next couple of weeks, any suggestions? I'll hard-boil some for lunch/snacks but I'm only one woman 😂 maybe a frittata, quiche type thing?!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/12/2022 20:34

@ifonly4 it’s always water retention with me, I can gain a surprising amount- could it be that? Have you eaten a lot of salty things?

@GFLoser you could make some scotch eggs, they are always my go-to when I have lots of eggs. Easy to make and they make a really filling lunch

neverendinglauaundry · 05/12/2022 21:08

@ifonly4 how annoying! Well done for carrying on rather than just giving up! For me in the past this has been either I've calculated my calories wrong (thought something was really low cal when it wasn't) or I've weighed at a different time of day (this can make 3-5lbs difference for me!)
I feel like I've managed to stay on track today 1500 calories and 9000 steps.

ifonly4 · 06/12/2022 11:08

Had a really good day yesterday. No reason why that shouldn't happen today😅

GFLoser you've given me an idea, I might make a crustless quiche for tea and add lots of veggies. Happy to have mine with salad and DH can fill up on veggies and bread. Any leftovers will do for a quick lunch tomorrow.

OP posts:
neverendinglauaundry · 07/12/2022 07:12

Oh my god the hunger is real! I had to go to bed early last night to avoid eating everything in sight. Managed to finish on 1600 calories and 9000 steps though, but I've woken up ravenous again.
Today I've got a day off so I'll go for a long walk and try to have plenty of protein for lunch. I really want to stay on it because I know I won't on the weekend.
Crustless quiche sounds nice @ifonly4 is that like a fritata?
Last night with tea I had asparagus, peas and tenderstem broccoli with a little bit of lemon butter dressing on them and they were lovely.

ifonly4 · 07/12/2022 15:43

neverendinglauaundry I've been hungry over the last few days - wonder if it's the cold weather. Not starving, but I'm hungry now.

Yes, crustless quiche is very similar. Mine is a lot more chunky as it's packed with whatever veggies we have. Easy to cut into slices and keep.

A nice looking pizza was reduced to half price in Tescos earlier. Yes, you can guess, I bought it. Half is 770 calories - I could eat that and have some salad without going over my daily use, but am aiming to keep a smallish slice for lunch tomorrow.

OP posts:
neverendinglauaundry · 07/12/2022 18:58

Hi all,
I'm not sure how I've done today. I think likely 1600-1800 calories. I had a nice long walk though 19000 steps.

ifonly4 · 07/12/2022 19:18

With that number of steps, it'll help keep you within your body's calorie usage.

Had a couple of pizza slices here, but still 340 cals less than I've used. Going out for an xmas meal at weekend, phoned up this afternoon and cancelled my dessert - not everyone is having one so I won't be on my own.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/12/2022 07:46

Morning all,
urgh I just cannot get my head in the game at the moment. Yesterday I ate waaaay too many calories (eg well over 2000) and despite running, I was still over my usage!

I have a tiny niggle in my hip (recurring running injury) so no run today, although I am going to walk the long way to my friends for a coffee. And will do yoga, I did a few deep hip stretches yesterday and today will look up an Adrienne workout.

I must admit, I’m feeling a bit down. I don’t enjoy being unemployed, and I am finding the jobs market very challenging as I am quite set on what type of thing I want to find, and there’s not much out there. I am filled with self doubt and I will be honest, I’m getting bored. There’s only so much cleaning I can do! I genuinely can’t wait for the kids to break up so we can do some fun activities. I do need to keep reminding myself though that my previous role was unmanageable and my mental health was at Rock bottom- I didn’t just leave on a whim, I left as urgent self protection.

anyway- food. I’m going to wait it out today until I feel genuinely hungry, rather than bored. I really must eat some veg, so soup for lunch and probably salad with cheese and ham. Dinner will be something with chicken thighs, maybe a traybake or similar to get more veg in, or a stir fry. I have a project to work on today at least, recovering some seat pads on a vintage armchair so hopefully that will curb my eating for entertainment!

@ifonly4 @neverendinglauaundry you both sound like you are keeping yourself on track, great moderation!

neverendinglauaundry · 08/12/2022 10:13

Hey @thenewaveragebear1983 . Sorry you're feeling down. Hold on to the fact that you're not in a role you hate. It sounds like you already do loads of stuff to keep occupied, including running, something I've never been able to stick with, or do at all really. More jobs will be advertised after Xmas and things will be brighter.
I'm considering going on to Christmas maintenance mode pretty soon, although I'm not sure what that might entail...

ifonly4 · 08/12/2022 17:01

thenewaveragebear1983 I've read before it's good to do different exercise every day, so could be more beneficial than you think having a few days off from running. Hope your hip is better soon though. As neverendinglauaundry tsaid hings are going to quieten down over xmas in the jobs market, so might be worth giving yourself some slack and going for it in the New Year. Hopefully Xmas will give you a break from how you're feeling in terms of having something else to focus on/seeing others.

Looks like today calories will be around 1300 which I'm ok with. Going to weigh tomorrow as planning a homemade curry Fri (albeit lower calorie version and I'll forego rice and just have naan). It'll be veggie and chickpea laden though so suspect it'll be in my system Saturday.

Starting to think my bum/bottom whatever you want to call it feels a bit more trim. My stomach isn't so bloated with food, but not where I want it to be though. I started off doing toning exercises and need to start doing those again I think.

OP posts:
ifonly4 · 09/12/2022 19:48

I weighed this morning knowing we're having a curry tonight and xmas meal out tomorrow. Lost 1.5lbs I put on last week, so a totally loss of 5lbs. Would like to loose another couple of pounds before xmas to give me some leaway for xmas eating before getting down to my aim permanently of at least 7lbs (9lbs would be great).

Must be my age, but definitely coming off my bottom rather than tummy which bothers my most. Anything has to be an improvement though.

OP posts:
neverendinglauaundry · 10/12/2022 11:54

As expected last night and this morning were both totally off the rails. I'll try to hold back a bit today as various celebrations continue. I think I'll just focus on not drinking any alcohol.
Didn't weigh in like I normally do before the weekend and am now slightly afraid of what I'll find when I do.
I did do a really strenuous (for me) work out yesterday morning though and can barely walk today. I've covered my lags in deep heat and am hoping for the best!
Have a good weekend everyone x

Whiskers4 · 10/12/2022 21:44

Haven't touched base for a while. It's a ow loss at half pound two weeks in a row. No massively trying, but am having a few smaller portions and avoid a few extra treats.

Neverendinglaulaundry It's not easy to do well every week, especially on approach to Xmas. Still good you're posting and exercising. Right now a case of trying to keep things stable.

neverendinglauaundry · 11/12/2022 09:33

After yesterday (McDonald's breakfast, chocolate & a really lovely Japanese meal but no alcohol & a decent amount of steps) I will be back on it today & aim for 1500 calories. Might make a soup or a casserole as it's so cold.
Weigh in tomorrow

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/12/2022 19:47

Yesterday we had pizza and wine for the football, and today I nursed my hangover and fed it Cadbury’s chocolate and toast 🤦‍♀️ I am, however, not going to beat myself up. I am just going to try for a really disciplined week. I have deliberately done a pretty sparse shop, to use up some bits in the fridge/freezer. I intend to eat protein, fewer carbs and drink lots of water, and for the love of God, eat some vegetables. I really find I eat less overall if I fast in the morning and get lots of chores done, then have a large ish lunch. But really, I need to stop grazing, eating unnecessary bread, and eating sugary stuff. Mid week I can totally nail this.

my anxiety is through the roof today. I think that’s post alcohol, lack of sleep, and hormones all playing into it. I can go a long way to helping with this, by not drinking and by getting a decent night sleep. I will endeavour to listen to my hypnosis this week as well to calm me.

I have booked into a few gym classes, and will try to run as long as it’s not too icy. I may have a few days temping work as well. Plus I have a lot of Christmas bits to get finished as well, so plenty to do to keep me busy.

GFLoser · 11/12/2022 19:54

Hello everybody, it's been a little while for me.. and I have been BAD. I had a week/end packed with Xmas/birthday events and I didn't hold back Blush I daren't weigh anytime soon, but I am more than ready to get back on track.
@thenewaveragebear1983 I'd be really interested to hear what you listen to in terms of hypnosis for anxiety, I struggle with it myself especially first and last thing in the day. If you wouldn't mind sharing any recommendations I'd be really grateful.
I'm going to incorporate a few veggie days next week, I want to focus on eating more whole vegetables and give my digestion a bit of a break after hammering it this last week. It will include eggs though.
I'd like to make a soup and possibly a risotto, I'm on my own all next week (DP working away) so if it's a disaster it's only me that will know!

ifonly4 · 12/12/2022 10:55

Xmas meal out Saturday, worked out I went over by about 400 cals, which I don't think is too bad with the alcohol.

DH's fault I went over by 400 cals again yesterday, can't really complain. Our friends we met up with night before where struggling to travel back out of county with snow. DH didn't want me stranded on my own if there was a problem driving home from work, so he got the bus and met me. Only thing is he raided M&S starters and ready meals first!

Good news - the trousers I was going to wear Saturday are too big on me, so the few pounds I've lost have made a difference even though my jeans are still tight.
