Lose +/- 7lbs with me

Would anyone like to join me in losing just a few pounds?

Despite cutting back on biscuits and alcohol and keeping active, I've put on 8lbs due to the menopause - most of it feels like it's around my middle and I'm not feeling good about it.

I enjoy walking, so am going to try and to a bit more on top of my usual exercise, also some toning exercises for my stomach/core. Not willing to starve myself, so going to try and make better choices/have slightly smaller portions.

I managed 1500 calories, 10,000 steps and a short swim today.
Will weigh in tomorrow morning to see if there's any overall gain from the weekend, hopefully not though.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/11/2022 20:01

1600 cals today, slightly over my allowance but according to garmin I burned 650 calories as exercise (hiit class and a lot of steps)
my food has been nice, but I have hardly eaten any veg. I really just don’t fancy it at the moment. I really need to make an effort to add more to each meal.

neverendinglauaundry · 28/11/2022 21:59

1500 calories today &1200 steps
B. Egg & avocado bun, banana, coffee
L. Turkey salad sandwich, Clementines, blueberries
D. Pea soup, slice of Christmas cake
All good stuff

neverendinglauaundry · 28/11/2022 22:12

12000 sorry

Whiskers4 · 29/11/2022 08:36

You're all doing so well.

I'm just trying make better choices or have smaller portions of the bad ones. Lost another 1lb last minute week, so that's 2lb in total. 8lbs is going to take a long time unless I make more effort, so need to be more careful especially with Xmas coming up.

ifonly4 · 29/11/2022 10:29

neverendinglauaundry Wow, that does sound healthy.

As Whiskers4 said, we're all doing well - yes, we have difficult days, but we're not giving in.

Have my niece for tea today. It'll be fishfiners then chips or potatoes, beans or peas - hoping she choose the lower calorie options, if not I might just have beans and no chips. DH likes tomatoes with that sort of meal so might cook a few of those. There's chocolate cake for afterwards, but at the moment I feel I can quite happily bypass that.

OP posts:
neverendinglauaundry · 29/11/2022 12:35

@ifonly4 - I should put on the less healthy days for balance 😂
@Whiskers4 I think that sounds really sustainable, I've lost a pound in the last week too. The main issue is sticking with it. So long as we can do that we're golden

neverendinglauaundry · 29/11/2022 21:08

I've felt the need for comfort food today. grey horrible weather, work annoyance, house crap to sort out...
B. Skyr yoghurt blueberries
L. Jacket potato, cheese coleslaw, salad
S. Mocha, Mr Kipling apple pie
D. Venison burger
(1800 calories)
10,000 steps.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/11/2022 21:15

Gone way over on calories today. My meals were nice but weren’t very conducive to dieting, plus I have had 2 kitkat and a few chocolate mini Santa’s (in my defence, I made 50 little sweet stack Santa sleighs for my kids football teams and there were uneven quantities that needed addressed 😂)
I am just not eating much veg or anything green right now. I think I’m getting a bit depressed being off work, I feel very ‘meh’ generally at the moment, and I’m starting to feel quite constipated and bloated which I think is due to my lack of veg.

I did run 4 miles with my friend, plus a generally active day and a walk to the shop, making 16k steps in total. I think the day will end pretty much as a break even.

tomorrow: lunchtime cardio core blast class, I really intend to eat some green with every meal, drink lots of water, and try not to eat any bread or stodgy crap.

neverendinglauaundry · 30/11/2022 08:05

@thenewaveragebear1983 do you have some good recipes for greens? Everyone in our house likes broccoli with a miso dressing (miso, soy sauce, lime or lemon juice, dash of sesame oil, optional dash of honey)
That helps of you're not really fancying it on its own.

neverendinglauaundry · 30/11/2022 08:11

I'm very impressed with your exercise regimen!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/11/2022 08:13

@neverendinglauaundry that’s a good idea actually, I do have a few veg recipe books.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/11/2022 17:52

Ending on 1800 cals today, but that includes an options hot choc sachet for later, I’m pleased I have have no biscuits or chocolate at all today. I have made a very determined effort to eat fruit and veg so k have snacked on fruit and added extra, went to Tesco and bought some nice salad bits (those expensive cherry tomatoes and a pot of pasta salad) to encourage my appetite for healthy stuff, and a pot of raspberries. I don’t know why I have been avoiding it recently because I enjoy it. For my dinner I have had a frozen meal portion of casserole, again with loads of veg in it and on the side. I am really craving something sweet now but will try to resist until my hot choc later.

neverendinglauaundry · 01/12/2022 09:40

Well done @thenewaveragebear1983 ! I ended on 1750 calories yesterday, a bit of exhausted emotional eating tbh, but it's still under my target and I am feeling a bit slimmer. Even 6lbs does make a difference.
I was up worrying last night so likely will find it hard again today, but I've packed a sensible lunch for myself and will try to power through with coffee.
In this weather I really crave the sort of food my mam used to cook, bacon bones soup, Sunday dinner soup, casseroles, mince and onion, potatoes etc... Unfortunately I don't have the time too cook them.

ifonly4 · 01/12/2022 14:55

I failed this morning. Had a free coffee offer to use, so treated myself to latte instead of americano - not too bad, but I added an orange and passionfruit cake slice to it - it was very sweet and lovely, but I dread to think about the calories😊. Had group at lunchtime. It's veggie bolognese for tea, so am aiming for a small portion of pasta with that.

@ifonly4
Ah, so long as you enjoyed it!
Not super healthy for me yesterday either but calories were ok
B. apple pie coffee
L. Chicken salad sandwich, apple, Clementine
D. 1.5 pints of lager & potato skins
Total about 1600 calories
Steps about 900

neverendinglauaundry · 02/12/2022 07:30

9000 god.
Also weighed myself this morning and lost another half a pound. I'm now 13 stone 8, which I'm really pleased about. A good distance from 14 stone where I started.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/12/2022 08:00

@neverendinglauaundry that’s a great loss, well done..
I’ve had a mixed week, some really good days and some not so great! It’s much much easier for me to stay on track when I allow myself a higher calorie allowance, which I know is totally obvious (duh 🙄) but I think I need to make my peace with a very slow weight loss that’s actually achievable rather than aiming for a quicker loss but then ending up never managing to stick to it.
we did not drink last night, after a few weeks of getting into the bad habit of Thursday night wine. As a result I slept so well. I listened to some hypno yesterday as well, which reminded me how well it worked when I did it every day, so mental note to do that next week. Really helps to curb the sugar cravings.
I should find out about that job today and I am feeling very nervous, I don’t think I’ll have been successful but I wish they’d put me out of my misery. Going Xmas shopping with dh so will have a nice lunch out. Not running today as I want to do a long one this weekend.

ifonly4 · 02/12/2022 14:49

neverendinglauaundry That's brilliant news. Well done.

thenewaveragebear1983 The main thing is that you find something that helps you lose it long term. There's no competition on how long that takes.

We're babysitting tonight and DH won't be home in time to eat, so it's going to be ready meals at DBILs. Picked one for myself thinking it was 342 calories for whole pack, no it's for half the pack!! DH will have to make himself useful and eat some of it. DBIL asked if we were walking, so wondering if there's going to be a bottle of something chilling - last time there were lagers!

Will be weighing tomorrow morning. Hopefully have lost something as I'm really hungry today and determined not to give in - think it's the cold weather.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/12/2022 19:23

@ifonly4 I know, you are right. But I want to be skinny NOWWWWWWW 😂
I jest, of course. (But it is bloody annoying to lose half a pound a week when I exercise every day, and can regain 5lbs on one weekend off)
I will weigh tomorrow too, but I don’t think it will be a great weigh in, my week has been too inconsistent.

I do feel quite determined though and am currently writing a plan for the week ahead. The problem is actually sticking to the plan. But I guess even if I can maintain during December that will stop me starting the new year with an additional gain to lose.

I didn’t hear about the job, I assume that means I was unsuccessful but who knows?

GFLoser · 02/12/2022 20:12

Hi everyone, I've had a really busy week and not much chance to update. Glad to hear of all the success! And have to agree, it takes consistency and slow and steady is the better way but frustrating when it's sloooow.
Wow @neverendinglauaundry I've never heard of Sunday dinner soup but I want some! Keep meaning to make a pot of something, anything, to help with lunches. I don't have a lot of fridge space which doesn't help, tend to either skip lunch altogether or have some gf crackers and butter. Not ideal, and also missing green stuff @thenewaveragebear1983.
I weighed and nearly fell off the scale when I saw a 1.5lb loss. I don't think it was a "true" reading but it's spurred me on!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/12/2022 20:25

@GFLoser I must admit I buy soup ready made. I just cannot make it nice, and it doesn’t work out cheap if I end up wasting it. I am a good cook in all other aspects but I cannot for the life of me make a decent soup 🤷‍♀️

GFLoser · 02/12/2022 20:53

Good point tbh @thenewaveragebear1983 I can never make it as nice as my mum's. The only soup I have success with is mushroom (load of cream) and broccoli/cauli (loads of cheese)- so realistically not that healthy. Do like the idea of a dhal but I just never get round to it!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/12/2022 21:46

Conversely, my mother is a terrible cook, but she does make a lovely soup, particularly a scotch broth made with the chicken bones. Some sort of glitch in the genetic matrix 😂

ifonly4 · 04/12/2022 17:41

GFLoser Congratulations on the loss.

A bit of a weird week weigh in wise here. I cheated on Wed, weighed early and had lost 1lb. Weighed in yesterday as normal and have put on 1.5lbs, so more than last week. I did have a latte and slice cake Thurs, but have been very careful otherwise and even put aside a grumbling tummy. Yesterday my calorie intake was neutral and I think I'll be over 2-300 today.

Conscious xmas is coming up, so still aiming to loose. Have an xmas meal next week and ordered three courses before trying to loose weight. Wondering whether to phone restaurant and try and reduce to two courses.
