Lose +/- 7lbs with me

Would anyone like to join me in losing just a few pounds?

Despite cutting back on biscuits and alcohol and keeping active, I've put on 8lbs due to the menopause - most of it feels like it's around my middle and I'm not feeling good about it.

I enjoy walking, so am going to try and to a bit more on top of my usual exercise, also some toning exercises for my stomach/core. Not willing to starve myself, so going to try and make better choices/have slightly smaller portions.

I’m ending the day on 1220 calories, 100g carbs. 15k steps.
I’m pleased with that, it’s considerably less than I have been eating recently, and I managed much more fruit and veg, weighed everything and drank about 6 pints of water. The only challenge now is to NOT end up grazing in the kitchen later.

I’m going to pre-load my food tracker for tomorrow. 6am gym class tomorrow morning and then I will walk into town and back as well.

neverendinglauaundry · 21/11/2022 20:36

Hello @OatFox Welcome 😀
I'm having a hard time sticking to it today.
B. Coffee 1slice toast&peanut butter (300)
L. 3 fish fingers, 2 potato waffles, peas (450)
S. 2 apples, half a pack of trail mix stuff (nuts, chocolate chips & cranberries) - about 3-400
I'm still not back home but I've got a 300 calorie ready meal to have, which I think will leave me at or just above 1500. I'm just really hungry today though.

Whiskers4 · 22/11/2022 08:04

I haven't posted much but just touching base. My effort has been minimal compared to most of you, but I have made avfew changes which intend to stick with. I've only lost 1lb, so it's going to take a while.

300 calories for one slice toast and peanut butter. I guess it's the peanut butter that's added so many calories. I has a plan to have that sometimes at lunch with fruit. I think it's going to be a very thin layer now, but the thought has made me hungry.

neverendinglauaundry · 22/11/2022 12:30

@Whiskers4 - the calorie count includes milk in my coffee too & a bit of honey.

A pound you keep off is totally worth it too - well done!

I'm on here to ask what others do when they're on their periods? I'm on, and feel really washed out. I feel the need for more food, and nutritious stuff too. Do you add more calories?

ifonly4 · 22/11/2022 15:18

Don't have periods any more here (I hope!), but I used to get the munches beforehand and then go on my food the day my period started! If you really need it, then I'd allow extra calories or allow yourself extra food but trying to make a better choice.

Out tonight. Friend getting plenty of yummy food in and we'll split cost. In last 24 hours everyone has piped up, I'll bring cake, cookies and crisps, so I feel obliged to take chocolates. I'd accepted tonight was going to cost a minimum of 1000 calories but it's going to be a nightmare to resist all those things. My friend is with WW and isn't have any sins today, so going to be interesting to see what she chooses.

Whiskers4 · 22/11/2022 16:02

neverendinglauaundry phew, I can enjoy my peanut butter on toast with slightly less guilt! By the way, hope you didn't think I was critising your food choices

neverendinglauaundry · 22/11/2022 17:03

@Whiskers4 not at all! Enjoy your toast :-)

neverendinglauaundry · 23/11/2022 07:35

So, yesterday I ended up having about 1800 calories and did 14000 steps. It should have been a neutral day I think. I'll try to get back on plan today

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/11/2022 08:08

I finished yesterday on 1250 cals, and my nutracheck was all green because I was under my allowance and exceeded my exercise goal. I am pleased with that as I was really spiralling into eating junk and feeling miserable.

raining here today so no running, going to blitz housework this morning and go to cardio core at lunchtime. I’ll have eggs for breakfast, not sure about lunch, and dinner will be chicken thighs in (jarred) white wine sauce and lots of green veg,

hope you all have a great day

GFLoser · 23/11/2022 12:32

How did it go last night @ifonly4? Nights like that are pretty rare for me but they all seem to be around Christmas and it's too easy to say sod it.
@thenewaveragebear1983 all the green sounds satisfying! I've toyed with the idea of a fitness tracker but I'm not sure how well I'd get along with it (I'm a bit lazy to be honest 🙈)
@neverendinglauaundry also on my period. I do tend to eat more but try to choose things that fill my tummy, helps with cramps, so things like porridge/pasta/soup.
I've been very much "all" or "nothing" this week. I didn't eat til tea yesterday or Monday, a bit of 'one meal a day' type thing, but today, aforementioned period plus this awful bug that's going round, and I've already had a pasta bake and some chocolate. Feeling grim!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/11/2022 13:23

@GFLoser I really like nutracheck, I think it’s a few pounds a month for the app but it does keep me on track and (more importantly) stops me ignoring what I’m eating when I’m not on track. Even when I’m totally off the rails I do fill it in. It links to my Garmin watch so all my exercise automatically adds on. A lot of people use my fitness pal which I think is free?

ifonly4 · 23/11/2022 15:08

GFLoser Hope you feel better soon. Nutracheck do a free 7 day trial, so you can try for free.

All green is very positive.

I haven't even tried to work out calories from last night, but I didn't come home really absolutely stuffed. I've got to try and be good for two days now as we're out for a curry on Friday, oh then it's the weekend which is never easy.

Brilliant news Marmut and MuthaHubbard brilliant news for you both.

I think I've had a few too many calories tonight. Good news is that I'm at work tomorrow, breakfast will be at 6am and for once I know my break won't be until after 11am, so that'll stop me eating until then.

@ifonly4 Thank you.
@GFLoser I use my fitness pal now & it syncs easily with garmin. I use free version. Full of adverts, but meet my need as I can enter daily family dinner recipes.

Anyway, sounds like everyone is doing well.

Weighed my self yesterday, about 47.9 kg now. So a total loss of 1.1 kg in about 17 days.
Sunday: 5 km walk
Monday : 11 km run
Tuesday: walked to and back from work about 10 km.
Wednesday: 10 km run

Calories intake were between 1200- 1350 kkal.

neverendinglauaundry · 23/11/2022 18:38

Sorry you're feeling rough @GFLoser
I've been mostly on track today
B. Slice of toast with a bit of cheese. 2 coffees. Apple (350)
L. Chicken fajita wrap (450)
D. Soy ginger chicken, rice, broccoli with miso dressing. Slice of apple strudel with cream (600)
Only 5000 steps as WFH and it was pissing down all day

MuthaHubbard · 23/11/2022 22:41

Just checking in - hope you feel better soon @GFLoser
This week has been on track so far - have made an effort to keep steps up around 10k despite dodgy knee and weather - even if it means stomping around the house. Food has been ok too - sticking to around 1200/1300 and mainly low carb. Tried to up water too which I find hard - easier to drink gallons of coffee.
Real test will be Saturday - off to a local festival so will be drinks and some food to be had

ifonly4 · 24/11/2022 18:56

Negative - had a calorie laden treat this morning.

Positives: have had my three main meals as well, each less than 200 calories.

Need to stay focussed until tomorrow night, as it's curry night with friends. Luckily DH happy to share rice and naan so I get a taste of each. Need to do my research on lower calorie curries.

Sounds like everything is remaining focussed (obviously sometimes with the add blip), so hopefully going in right direction.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/11/2022 21:02

I’ve had a good day, 18k steps (walked twice) and have eaten reasonably well although probably will reach my tdee to be honest as I am now having a red wine and eaten a triple choc cookie 🤦‍♀️

in my defence, I have a job interview this morning that I am very nervous about. It’s for a big role that’s outside my comfort zone, at a school I have previously worked at, so I feel if I duff it up then they will all know me and it feels more pressure somehow. I have to give an assembly and a presentation and then they decide who will be interviewed so it feels very X factor and I am dreading it.

few positives today though- I weighed in this morning and I was down 4lbs, but the weekend will probably balance that out.
And I finally paid my entry fee for London marathon 2023 so I’m definitely in. Scary and exciting!

neverendinglauaundry · 24/11/2022 21:15

Good luck for your interview tomorrow @thenewaveragebear1983 . Just breathe, go in positive, you can do it!
I've just been so hungry this week, I've been a bit over calories pretty much every day. I'll weigh tomorrow, I don't think I've eaten a weight gain amount so hoping for a maintain.

GFLoser · 25/11/2022 06:51

Thank you all for the kind well wishes, I'm starting to feel a little better. Rotten cold!
I weighed this morning and down another pound which is great, but this is now my sticking point- exactly 10st4.5lbs. I just can't seem to get below it- I last tried in the summer- so now begins the real test!
@ifonly4 tomato based curries aren't usually that bad, it's the starters/sides that do it. Maybe a Rogan Josh/jalfrezi?
Best of luck @thenewaveragebear1983 it sounds like an unusual recruitment process..
@neverendinglauaundry me too, I'm blaming the temperature drop and trying to go for warming food- I think I'll make a soup/dhal for lunches next week.

neverendinglauaundry · 25/11/2022 06:57

Just weighed in at 13 stone 9.5lbs, so half a pound down since Monday, 6.5lbs overall.
I really want to keep this off and ideally loose another stone if I can. If I could get another 1-2lbs off and keep if off over Xmas I'd be really pleased.
I've used mfp on and off over the years and the gradual trend is very much up which is depressing. I was 10lbs lighter than this two years ago

ifonly4 · 25/11/2022 12:10

thenewaveragebear1983 hope the interview goes well.

Brilliant news over the losses. GF Loser and neverendinglauaundry. I'll join you as well, weighed a day early as it's curry night!! I've lost 1/2 pound - don't think I've been exercising so much and had a night out earlier in the week, so not too bad. That makes 4lbs in total. In the ideal world I'd love to lose another 5lbs but that might be pushing it.

So guessing we'll have poppadoms tonight, but will only have minimal mango chutney and focus on the onion mix. I tend to choose pathia, sagwella or rogan josh so that's a positive - will check later on calories in sagwella as spinach sounds healthy, just depends what else is in it.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/11/2022 17:33

@ifonly4 thanks. It went ok I think but it was a difficult interview, lots of stages, lots of waiting around, and I don’t think I gave strong enough answers for some of the questions.

came home, feeling very “done” and went for a run, then ate a mince pie and am
now drinking a cider! We are going out to a World Cup party tonight, take away and wine….. so today will be a write off I guess.

however , I weighed in at 155lb, so a 5lb loss this week, if I don’t weigh tomorrow morning! Slightly falsified reading but I’ll take that for morale and get back on track tomorrow. I have felt so much better this week eating healthy food and getting more veg. Meal planning tomorrow and food shop.

neverendinglauaundry · 25/11/2022 21:28

Wow amazing loss @thenewaveragebear1983 ! Well done. Hope you get the job, teaching interviews are so stressful! I went to one once where they sent home half the candidates half way through the day.
Today I've had about 1700-1800 calories and done 19000 steps.

ifonly4 · 26/11/2022 14:11

thenewaveragebear1983 Fingers crossed for the job. Sometimes you just can't tell from the interview how it's going to go. Brilliant news over the weight loss. I weighed yesterday for the same reason.

Had stolen cake earlier and just had a jacket potato. I've got a sore throat so might have a couple of clementines, then cajun salmon and salad later - oh and a glass of something if I'm not feeling too bad (DH thinks he's caught a cold off his boss, so no surprises if I go downhill.

Hi all,
Hope you're having a good weekend and enjoying a treat. Given I had a lax week this week I've tried to be moderate today.
Just under 1800 calories and 14,000 steps. I'll try for going back to 1500 tomorrow
