Would anyone like to join me in losing just a few pounds?

Despite cutting back on biscuits and alcohol and keeping active, I've put on 8lbs due to the menopause - most of it feels like it's around my middle and I'm not feeling good about it.

I enjoy walking, so am going to try and to a bit more on top of my usual exercise, also some toning exercises for my stomach/core. Not willing to starve myself, so going to try and make better choices/have slightly smaller portions.

What days are you all weighing? I think I started doing Mondays but seem to have dodged the scales all week.
@neverendinglauaundry 16000 in a day would be impressive 😂
Good luck with the weather today @thenewaveragebear1983 the rain has woken me up this morning, dreading the school run never mind anything more. I'm not brilliant at soup but find sweating the onions in a bit of butter and salt helps build flavour- split into portions it's not so bad on the cals.
I bought some ready meals on Mon as have had a busy week but they're done now and I'm reminded that I'm not keen despite the convenience, looking forward to getting back to cooking.

neverendinglauaundry · 17/11/2022 08:39

Hi @GFLoser the plan was to weigh in on Saturday mornings as that was the first day I started, I will do that this week I think 🤞for some kind of loss this week.

neverendinglauaundry · 17/11/2022 19:55

How did everyone's days go?
I'm on track for calories but only 8000 steps.
B. Banana 2 white coffees
L. 2 rashers bacon, fried egg, tomatoes, mushrooms, 1slice of buttered toast, apple, tablespoon of peanut butter
D. Salmon, sticky rice, stem broccoli miso dressing, 2 chocolate mochi
Total 1500

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/11/2022 21:25

I had an ok day today. One very positive thing is that all my food has been of actual nutritional quality and I haven’t eaten any rubbish. Ended up on 1800 calories again today, which is more than my allowance but it’s where I’ve ended up the last few days, and at least I won’t gain on that (hopefully). I’ve been limping to the end of the week really as I’m out tomorrow and it feels like something of a last hurrah before really trying to have a few good weeks on track. Tomorrow will pretty much be a write off with dinner and drinks out.

i did 15k steps, took my friend’s dog for a walk but didn’t run, it was too rainy. I did a good menu for the next week and a food shop, so after tomorrow I’m raring to go. I have a PT session tomorrow which I’m really looking forward to as well.

Restlessinthenorth · 18/11/2022 06:18

Really good week for me I think. Hot all the targets I wanted to in terms of exercise and calories. Do have a Saturday at least which is going to be calories heavy tho. I had hoped to negate it with plenty of exercise around it but I've hurt my back so I think it's go if to be Sunday before I attempt it I think. Life happens, I suppose!

GFLoser · 18/11/2022 06:35

@Restlessinthenorth sympathy for your sore back, mine is twinging too- I've spent a lot of time at my desk this week and can feel it. I've booked a sports massage to try and ease it a bit.
@thenewaveragebear1983 I'd take 1800 of nutritional food as a win personally! Gluten free is hard to navigate- a lot of the substitutes are very heavily processed but it's hard to manage without at times.
I weighed this morning and I think I'm about 2lb down- though that is for the best part of a fortnight.
I'm pleased and surprised, hoping it spurs me on. Christmas events are coming up thick and fast now, it's difficult to balance wanting to feel at my best weight wise with wanting to enjoy all the festivities!
In terms of exercise, I'm going to attempt a YouTube dance workout today, see how my achey bones cope. Friday is my deep cleaning day too, so that will be some cardio! How's everyone's weekend looking?

neverendinglauaundry · 18/11/2022 09:52

Well done @Restlessinthenorth
Sounds like you've been successful overall too @GFLoser
I weighed in this morning at 13 stone 9 a loss of 4lb and overall loss of 6.5lb. I'll probably put another 2 back on over the weekend.

neverendinglauaundry · 18/11/2022 09:55

Sorry multitasking & getting names wrong - well done on your loss @GFLoser ! And 1800 of nutrition sounds good @thenewaveragebear1983

Restlessinthenorth · 18/11/2022 10:33

@neverendinglauaundry 4lb loss is brilliant! Absolutely well done

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/11/2022 12:49

So I just went to a different gym for a class with my friend, and this one had mirrors all over the wall (my usual gym is a dirty old unit on an industrial estate haha) - and oh my days, nothing motivates you more to get your butt in gear than seeing every inch of yourself in a massive mirror. I was genuinely shocked at how horrible I looked, I’m quite fit and coped with the workout but the general ‘consistency’ of my body is awful, I am lumpy and wobbly.

I drove home , and all the way I was thinking about completely gorging myself on sugar and crappy food, which shows how screwed up my relationship with food is, doesn’t it? I didn’t though, I had soup and wholemeal toast and fruit 😇

neverendinglauaundry · 18/11/2022 13:46

@thenewaveragebear1983 firstly, amazingly well done for sticking to soup, toast and fruit!
Secondly, I'm really sorry you are feeling bad about your body. The kinds of standards that come across in media are unrealistic and unhelpful. You said yourself that your body is fit and can do things like a full workout in a gym. That's brilliant! So many people have bodies that can't do that. I'd really recommend trying to do things that make you feel good. For me outdoor swimming is great, walking is great and yoga with the right class really works (I like a teacher who is just on the right side of hippy and not too Californian and who focuses on stretch). Also eating things I really like, but just not in crazy quantities.
I don't think immediately wanting to gorge on sugar is at all unusual. I often have that response to feeling rubbish too.
Courage! We can do this!

ifonly4 · 18/11/2022 14:50

RestlessintheNorth and GFLoser hope your backs feel better soon.

GFLower and neverendinglauaundry brilliant news over the loses.

I ended up giving into temptation a few times again this week, but overall I think I've still consumed less calories than I've used, if only by a small amount - much better than probably going over 400+ each day! Hopefully I'm learning a balance different choices and smaller amounts which will help longterm. Weigh in tomorrow. Have a couple of things on next week which are going to be calorie heavy🙄

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/11/2022 08:41

Weighed in this morning, and I have gained 1lb this week. I’m annoyed, mostly with myself. I just can’t seem to get my head in gear at the moment, and I’m now due on in 3 days which makes it additionally challenging. I did go out last night and drink, but not too much.

i just need to draw a line, not go crazy this weekend and get back on it. Dh is out tonight which means I can eat a really light dinner and not drink which is good. This week I really want to keep to a lower calorie amount, I do just generally eat too much, and try to reduce my carbs a little. Going for a run with my friend tomorrow, probably a longish one.

have a good weekend, all.

ifonly4 · 19/11/2022 13:19

thenewaveragebear1983 that extra 1lb might be water retention. Hopefully tonight's tea will get you back on track. Not always the most appetising choice, but might be worth eating a couple of pieces of fruit if your hungry, along with a glass of water, which would fill you up.

I'm really trying to keep within the amount of calories my body is using each day, if only by a small amount some days. I weighed myself this morning and I've lost 1.5lbs, so that's 3.5lbs in total as I lost a 1lb last week and one before. It's my stomach that's bothering me most, so I've been doing (just a bit) toning exercises most days but I really can't tell the difference! Now it's colder I can't get away with my lightweight trousers, so will have to squeeze into my jeans next week whatever, luckily one pair aren't quite so tight.

You do well to eat 1250 cals after running 10km.

@thenewaveragebear1983 Thanks. I had to drink lots of water and ate lots of fiber to keep me full for longer.

Day 12: walked 10 km to and back from work, calories intake about 1250 kkal
Day 13: not exercisingat all, calories intake about 1350 kkal
Day 14: ran 11.5 km, calories intake 1250 kkal
Day 15: ran 10 km & walked 5 km, calories intake 1300 kkal

Weighed in today, about 48.1.kg. BMI is 22.9, finally below 23 and officially no longer overweight 🎉

MuthaHubbard · 19/11/2022 19:07

Felt like I had a more focused/better week and weighed this morning which showed a 4lb loss. I know this is mainly water weight but of course am pleased. Nothing exciting happening this weekend and can only hope to keep on track next week 🤞

ifonly4 · 19/11/2022 19:25

Brilliant news Marmut and MuthaHubbard brilliant news for you both.

I think I've had a few too many calories tonight. Good news is that I'm at work tomorrow, breakfast will be at 6am and for once I know my break won't be until after 11am, so that'll stop me eating until then.

OP posts:
GFLoser · 19/11/2022 20:54

Predictably I have completely sabotaged myself over the last 24hrs and likely undone any decent work. Why do I do this!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/11/2022 23:29

Oh @GFLoser , I totally feel your pain, I do this too! It’s almost as if I say ‘well I’m going to do it eventually so I might as well…”
All you can do is start again tomorrow, in reality one slip won’t destroy your weight loss.

neverendinglauaundry · 21/11/2022 07:10

Well done @ifonly4 - that's a good sustainable loss!
Yay! Amazing @Marmut & @MuthaHubbard !

The damage from the weekend for me is I'm up 1lb, still an overall loss of 5lb since the start though and I need a couple of days off every now and again, plus I'm on my period so I think it could have been worse. Back on it today.

neverendinglauaundry · 21/11/2022 07:15

Forgot to say, I'm now 13st 10 If I can be a stable 13st7 by Christmas that will be a good result I think. So far I've avoided mince pies, mulled wine & Bailey's so trying to keep that up until at least mid way through December

ifonly4 · 21/11/2022 10:33

Weekend wasn't great as I should have avoided wine, oh and I couldn't resist something yummy on my second break at work yesterday.

Right start of a new week. Going to be a tough one as I have two nights out and there's only so many adjustments I can make. Think I'll just have to TRY and be careful the rest of week and try and make better choices on the night - not easy as it's pizza and curry nights (and poppadoms and wine are essential with curry here!).

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/11/2022 12:42

My weekend went like most weekends do… busy, wine, mostly good food but a few treats and extras. Ran 11km with my friend yesterday.
but today I am ON IT. I am determined to have a good week and to just get through those first few days of lower carbs so I can enjoy the benefits. I’ve put lots in the diary and I have a few errands etc which hopefully will help me keep busy. I went for a walk with my mother in law in the pouring rain so I skipped my gym session and stayed in the warm!
This week I’m aiming to keep calories low and cut some carbs. I need a kickstart!

ifonly4 · 21/11/2022 14:54

thenewaveragebear1983 Brilliant news - you mentioned you got a plan last week.

OP posts:
OatFox · 21/11/2022 15:01

I'll join.

I'm working on curbing binge eating so I'm eating at set meal times. This morning I had a sausage sandwich with two oven baked sausages cut in half with some butter and bread.

I plan to have a chicken breast with herbs and spices, Mexican style rice and vegetables for dinner and then if I'm really hungry, a diet 200 calorie meal replacement bar as a late snack.

I'm lifting weights as exercise as I'm restricted with my mobility so I really need to rely on calorie counting rather than upping or sticking to an exercise regime.
