Lose +/- 7lbs with me

Would anyone like to join me in losing just a few pounds?

Despite cutting back on biscuits and alcohol and keeping active, I've put on 8lbs due to the menopause - most of it feels like it's around my middle and I'm not feeling good about it.

I enjoy walking, so am going to try and to a bit more on top of my usual exercise, also some toning exercises for my stomach/core. Not willing to starve myself, so going to try and make better choices/have slightly smaller portions.

Yes! I went from 95kg to around 71kg in the last year (with the help of a thread here!) and now need to lose a last 5kg to be a healthy bmi (about 67kg) But I keep on yo-yo-ing around 70-73kg. Not sure what my problem is…

I’m 48 and probably peri-menopausal. I’d like to enter my menopausal years at a healthy weight because it is going to get harder and harder to lose weight.

I have lost weight this year, just by focusing on healthier choices and whole foods, rather than by a particular plan. I try to eat a lightish breakfast and lunch, a normal family supper and just one snack.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/11/2022 17:35

I’d love to! I Am off work at the moment and my food habits have absolutely gone to the dogs. I’d like to lose more than 7lb but considering I have lost precisely zero pounds this year I reckon 7 is a good start.

i exercise, every day pretty much. A hiit class, a run or a walk. Sometimes 2 activities (eg yesterday went to gym at 6am and then walked my friends dog for 5 miles). I (attempt to) calorie count. The problem is I just eat So.Much.Fooooood. I can eat and eat and eat and I have no off switch.

so yes, an accountability thread will really help me!

neverendinglauaundry · 04/11/2022 17:37

Ooh I'll join! Weight has just crept onto me during the tail end of lockdowns & also now mid 40s.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/11/2022 17:38

Oh and i should say, I’m 5’7 and about 154-158lbs (eg 11 -11 st 4 ish)
Garmin says I burn a consistent average of 2000 cals a day, this is my average over the year, so I deduct 500 from that and eat 1500 a day to lose 1lb a week. Except I don’t lose any weight, and then I get annoyed and eat 1000s of calories of junk!

neverendinglauaundry · 04/11/2022 20:34

I'll check in tomorrow morning with weight etc. My plan is to swim twice a week, do my 10,000 steps and aim for lots of veg each day with reduced calories. Around 1500, same as you @thenewaveragebear1983 . I'm more than half a stone overweight, but I'm thinking baby steps.
My motivation is that my feet hurt a lot now, and I'm sure it's because they carry my fat arse around. Also, to paraphrase Nora Ephron, I feel bad about my chins.

Whiskers4 · 05/11/2022 08:07

Can I join as well please. I only wear jeans in winter, current ones incredibly tight and can't find any that fit!

I'm not overweight, but an extra 8lbs on a small frame, mostly over stomach and thighs shows. Think it's menopausal as well.

MuthaHubbard · 05/11/2022 08:14

Me please
Covid, arthritic knee and perimeno have taken their toll and I'm about 10/14lbs from where I want to be. I keep 'restarting' but not really sticking with anything as I'm in a CBA (can't be arsed) mentality.
It's frustrating as I lost a lot of podge and put loads of effort in to be able to run and get fitter but now my body seems to be rebelling against it.
It's like to be look and feel a bit more fabulous for my 50th next year

Megjobethamy · 05/11/2022 09:02

Yes i'd like to join too! I am 12 st 5 lbs... Overall I would like to lose 2 st but going down a half stone but bring me into 11st territory and my clothes wouldn't feel so tight! I am following Unislim, joined on Tuesday but my difficulty is the weekends. During the week I eat a small breakfast, bring a healthy lunch to work and eat a simple dinner of chicken/ steak veg and small amount of potatoes/ rice. However, come Thursday evening ( I work Mon to Thurs) it just goes to pot!! I had a takeaway on Thurs as it was a family birthday and we had other family around and had thst and some prosecco! Cooked spicy sausage pasta last night and already thinking about tonights dinner and tomorrows Sunday Lunch....Love a roast with all the trimmings! Need to be more active and manage food better over the weekend!

neverendinglauaundry · 05/11/2022 09:30

Checking in.
I weighed 14st 2 this morning
My aim today is to stick to 1500 ish calories and get my steps in even though it's pissing down here. I have non alcoholic beer in for if friends come round later and a left over crunchy salad I can have for lunch so those two things will help.
I feel you about the roasts @Megjobethamy - small portions maybe?
What's everyone else's plan for the day?

Megjobethamy · 05/11/2022 09:47

Yes Neverendinglaunddry and probobly cut back on a few bits like stuffing or yorkshire puddings...Keep it simple! Need to up my exercise too!

MuthaHubbard · 05/11/2022 09:48

I weighed yesterday and figured out my cals via James Smith calculator so will be sticking to 1400 - I am v short and not hugely mobile right now due to knee.
I always do better with a plan/accountability. That's why I went to slimming world when I initially wanted to lose weight - the thought of someone knowing how much I weighed spurred me on a bit.
Know I need to up my water intake again. Foodwise - I think ff yoghurt and fruit, tuna wrap and potentially a homemade curry for tea.

TaggieWeightLoss · 05/11/2022 10:09

Morning everyone! Great to see lots of positive posts! Weighed in this morning at 71.2kg (11st 3lbs). I’m aiming to stick to a healthy breakfast and lunch and moderate portion family supper with a healthy snack in the afternoon. I’m also going to aim to get back to 2nd nature after a break of a couple of months. That way, I hope to get to a healthy bmi of 65kg (10st 5lbs).

ifonly4 · 05/11/2022 10:09

Looks like there's a few of us to support eachother😀.

We have an annual treat day out today, buying pie and cake from market and lunch out, so not best day to start. However, I had a low fat yogurt for breakfast (less calories), have done some toning exercises and plan to make a better lunch choice and no potatoes with pie tonight. Still doesn't sound great, but better than would have been.

Doesn't help it's definitely roast dinner season. If you like all the trimmings, might be worth having slightly less meat, veggies, one less potato.

For anyone needing to loose more, small steps are still very positive.

Me please! I would love to lose 7lbs before Xmas if possible

also peri menopausal and despite exercising at high intensity plus strength work 5-6x per week it just creeps on my belly relentlessly.

I eat well and loads of veg and healthy choices but have a sweet tooth which I think derails it all

Whiskers4 · 05/11/2022 16:09

Weighed myself. Good news it's 7lbs, not 8lbs I'd ideally like to loose! Bad news I went out for what I intended to be a long walk and it poured with rain.

neverendinglauaundry · 05/11/2022 19:17

How has everyone done today?
I've managed to stay at 1500 calories (I think! A few guesses in there) and done 1400 steps.
B. Protein yoghurt
L. Smoked salmon salad
S. Mocha
D. 2 1/2 sausages, roast veg, oven chips, grapes for pudding.

I had forgotten what it's like to reduce calories - hard!!
Also depressing logging in to mfp and seeing the weight I was last time was a good 10lbs less than I am now. Oh well!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/11/2022 19:56

I had an ok day although haven’t tracked calories yet (Monday, Monday…)
had egg on toast for breakfast, a roll and chicken for lunch, and went for a 4 mile run. Dh cooking tonight, something from the freezer.
not brilliant but certainly not the worst day I’ve had recently!

neverendinglauaundry · 05/11/2022 20:32

4 mile run is super impressive!

MuthaHubbard · 06/11/2022 12:02

Oh course I have lunch out today 🙄 potentially a roast.

Im going to cut the weightloss into chunks so concentrate on the first 7lbs and then think about anything else after that.
I've done a quick shop and vague plan of food for the next week and booked for a few gym classes.
My Sundays used to start with s 4 miler so am well jealous @thenewaveragebear1983

Marmut · 06/11/2022 13:57

@ifonly4, I will join you. I started yesterday. I aim to lose 3 kg until end of December and then another 4 kg after that. I did food diary on Fat Secret since yesterday with a target of 1200-1300 kcal/day. I manage to run about 6 miles yesterday and 5.5 miles today. Now, I feel weak from reducing calories intake.
I hate the feeling...

neverendinglauaundry · 06/11/2022 15:57

Hi all,
Glad there's a few more to join! @Marmut would more protein help with the feeling weak thing? Or a few more calories, a banana or something? My DH does a lot of training and finds that helpful.
I'm doing well so far today, I've had a half hour swim and will try to get out for a walk later so I can hit 10,000 steps. Calories so far:
B. Homemade Bircher muesli 2x white coffees (270)
L. 2&1/2 bean tacos (600)
Not sure what I'll have for tea. I'm really full from the tacos and only got about 500 calories left. Maybe soup or something like that.

Marmut · 06/11/2022 17:12

@neverendinglauaundry Thanks for the suggestion. I have had an apple to get me through to dinner.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/11/2022 19:29

Uuurghhhh my weekend has not gone to plan, I was really hungover this morning and have just eaten rubbish all day. And now drinking wine….

so: Monday! I have got food in, will need to shop on Tuesday I think, but definitely have enough for tomorrow. I am going to a hiit class at midday, and the rest of my day will be doing some DIY jobs, so lots to keep me busy. I really must drink more water, I’m sure that hugely contributes to my grazing all day. Lunch tomorrow will be soup, dinner tomorrow will be a chicken thighs traybake with lots of veg to use up some of the peppers and tomatoes we have in the fridge.

I am so tired of starting every week just feeling exhausted and unhealthy.

MuthaHubbard · 06/11/2022 19:55

I am so tired of starting every week just feeling exhausted and unhealthy.

This is totally how I feel.
I'm considering switching gyms - mine is 24/7 which is great but the one I'm looking at does spin, which love and will be better on the knee. And I might even brave the pool.

It’s rubbish isn’t it? It annoys me more because I absolutely know it’s entirely down to my food and drink choices that I feel like this. When I eat a clean diet and don’t drink, I feel 100% better, but even when I continue to have a glass of wine or two but keep my food really clean and no bread and sugar, I feel infinitely better.

it’s definitely good to get a gym that you love. Mine is a local PT, for years he just did outdoor classes but he now has a unit, it’s not glamorous or glossy, but the classes are hardcore and I feel like i have been made to work hard. I am currently off work and I have been going to his Lunch hour blast classes which I am really enjoying.
