Drumroll please...15st 12lbs 😥. I'm tall so can get away with it to some extent but i went on holiday recently and felt the whole time feeling uncool and uncomfortable.

I've been struggling with my weight since coming off the pill over 10 years ago but this is an all time high (or low!) point.

Where to go from here?! I love exercise, and when I'm good with my diet I'm good, but I have such a sweet tooth and can eat a massive bar of chocolate every night. Time to chance though as this is ridiculous.

Anyone fancy joining me to have some accountability?

@Rogue1001MNer I haven’t been measuring - sounds like a good motivator - esp as the majority of my weight is round my middle!

Rogue1001MNer · 30/08/2022 08:09

A friend of mine recommended it. Said it would be more of a friend than the scales

Givemestrengthorvodka · 31/08/2022 20:03

Hi all, I've been very quiet on here as struck down with a horrible cold and been in bed for last few days. Feeling disheartened as I'm supposed to have this 10k in 3 weeks and I'm already way behind on where I should be for it. I wonder how much weight I can lose in 3 weeks while also getting fitter and recovering from this horrid bug. Being ill though has reinforced how important it is to me to be healthy and look after my lovely body and I'm determined to keep treating it with respect and not fill it with all the rubbish like I have done or do any crazy ceash diets.

How is everyone else getting on? Fairing better than me I hope!

Sorry to hear you're rotten ill, @Givemestrengthorvodka
The important thing is that you don't let this make you give up.
So, you wanted to reach x weight by y time but haven't because of z.

What matters is that you re-evaluate.

"Ok, I'm NOT going to reach x weight by y time because z happened, so instead I'm going to reach a weight by b time and c is how i'm going to do it.

We're all supporting you x

Rogue1001MNer · 02/09/2022 01:17

waffly post alert.

Pre covid, I did a LOT of exercise classes. At least 5 a week. Don't be impressed - I was always the worst person in the room. But I was, at least, IN the room. I can't do a burpee to save my life, my lunges are more of a curtsy (you get the picture)... Absolutely rubbish. But I was there, and kind-of keeping up (in a "I can keep out of everyone else's way" kind of a way).

Covid hit. No classes. I drank my way through it. Weight bloomed.

I'm now back into exercising, pushed into it because of a health scare

I'm a member of a council-run gym, so I can go to any of the ones in my city and do classes for free.

But there are no motherfucking classes. There are, but not ones that suit me, or at times I can do them.
Also, my foot hurts (the health issue). It really fucking hurts. So I've been going swimming.
I'm ok at swimming. It doesn't make my foot pain any worse. But it's a boring form of exercise.
So, my routine has been
Body pump on a Saturday morning (sedentary, so doesn't hurt my foot)
Pilates and aqua aerobics on a Monday
Aqua aerobics on a Wednesday, but at a place outside my city, so I have to pay for this one.
Sometimes aqua aerobics on a Thursday (can't always do this one due to work)
Swimming 2 - 3 times a week.

We've had "family membership" for years, and most of the time, I'm the only one that goes. Pre-covid, with the classes I did, it more than paid for membership for all of us, so that was a win.

Post covid (now), I'm paying my way (and DH is going to the gym regularly to ditch his covid weight, so that's a winner).

I am considering membership at the place I go on a Wednesday. At the moment, I'm paying £6.95 for a class I do 4 times a month. So that's 28 quid. If I take out membership, that's 35 a month, but if I transfer just 2 x swims a month, I break even. (cos everything is then free).
AND they do my favourite class (body combat). So I can see this being cost neutral/in profit.
BUT, I've got this foot pain thing, which might mean I just can't do the combat classes. but I could swim instead. The original gym membership is paid for as long as DH continues to go.

So, I'm thinking I should go for it. Do I sound mad? The classes I want to do run 3 times a week, and there's waiting lists for each one (but if I'm a member, I can book early doors).

I'm a bit torn.

rosepelargonium · 02/09/2022 06:22

@Rogue1001MNer have you seen a doctor about your foot pain? Sounds like that’s the most annoying issue

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 02/09/2022 07:10

Sorry I've been awhol after asking how everybody was last week!!

Ate and drank too much over the bank holiday (although probably still a lot less than previously) and was geared up to get back on it on Monday when I received some really bad news. Have been a blubbering, comfort eating wreck since and dreading getting on the scales today but I'm going to do it. Not sure what to expect as although when I have eaten it's been unhealthy, I haven't actually eaten much (eg just had a five guys milkshake one day but that was probably my daily calories anyway!).

We go on holiday on Tuesday so I'm going to try and reign it in these next few days in a last ditch attempt! As yesterday was the start of a new month I did try to use it to pull myself together, still had a little breakdown in the afternoon and although over my calories I did track my food. Today is a new day though and I'm feeling a bit more positive, have got an appointment to have my eyelashes done tonight that should make me feel better too! Will report back once I've braved the scales...

@Givemestrengthorvodka sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well and hope you are feeling stronger soon.

@Rogue1001MNer is it anything a physio could help with? If it's Plantar Fasciitis I feel your pain!

rosepelargonium · 02/09/2022 07:20

@Givemestrengthorvodka sorry you have been feeling so rotten. An illness is bound to impact speed of weight loss and fitness; allow yourself to recover, and re-set the goals.

I’ve plateaued a bit, but have been busy at work and back to school stuff, so really need to drink more water and more veg. I could kill for a chocolate digestive or Rich Tea biscuit! One of my major food groups when stressed, usually. None for almost a month.
Hoping for another kilo off in the next week, then I’m on track again.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 02/09/2022 07:39

Well the scales weren't so bad after all, 16 stone 1. My original goal was to be 15.7 by my holiday, but knew weeks ago I wouldn't hit that so re adjusted to 'anything in the 15's'. Hoping with 4 good days ahead I might just make it!

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 02/09/2022 07:39

Although I won't be able to weigh myself Tuesday so it's really 3 days to do it.

wilddreams · 02/09/2022 07:47

Sorry about your bad news @PanicAtTheBigTesco I'm glad the scales weren't as bad as you feared!

Rogue1001MNer · 02/09/2022 08:45

Well done @PanicAtTheBigTesco
Sorry about your bad news. Well done for keeping going and enjoy your holiday.

@rosepelargonium yes, but not especially helpful. Just painkillers.
Sounds like you're doing well too

Littlemisspiggy21 · 02/09/2022 09:05

Can I join please?? I’ve weighed in at 13st2. I’m 5ft8 but NOT getting away with it. I don’t exercise at all so it’s all fat and a lot of it is concentrated around my mid section so I literally look like a sack of potatoes. More importantly, I know holding weight around your waist is really dangerous to your health so time to take action.

Started “clean eating” - kefir for breakfast, usually some sort of salad for lunch and a dinner packed out with veg. Allowing myself one 100 cal choc treat at the end of each day or I would literally just die. Plan on doing this for the month of September with as much walking as I can fit in. Will look to join the gym in October so it’s not a complete shock to the system. I hate exercising and it makes me extra hungry so I really don’t want to but I know I need to for my overall health.

If I lost a stone by Xmas I would be delighted but also appreciate that this is going to be a super long game. Hoping to join in for some accountability x

What a lovely message @Rogue1001MNer thank you! I am indeed not going to give up. I walked for an hour this morning which was lovely and energy levels are not as bad as I expected after being ill so I might attempt the gym or a run tomorrow and see how I feel.

Givemestrengthorvodka · 02/09/2022 15:55

And @Rogue1001MNer I would join the other gym! Do you have to commit to a lengthy contract? If not, then no harm in joining and seeing how you use it and enjoy it.

And body combat while full on can be kept low impact so will hopefully not encourage any further strive with your foot.

I love the Les Mills classes! The app is great for remote classes but I'm enjoying being back at the in person ones

@PanicAtTheBigTesco I'm sorry to hear you've had bad news. Feel free to vent here if it helps, or just come along for some weight loss banter as a bit of distraction 🙂. A holiday sounds well needed and I hope you have a lovely time.

@rosepelargonium you sound so determined, well done staying off the biscuits and I hope you get your kilo off when you weigh in next week!

And welcome @Littlemisspiggy21 ! Very welcome to join us. We aren't following any specific way of eating, just a little group to share our ups and downs with.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

So sorry to hear your bad news, @PanicAtTheBigTesco; so difficult to avoid comfort eating in this situation. Go easy on yourself.

@Givemestrengthorvodka, glad you are starting to feel better!

@Rogue1001MNer, maybe an X-ray to rule out a bony injury in your foot? Or if the GP thinks it is soft tissue, then seeing a physio would be helpful?

I am ashamed to say I slid off the wagon yesterday and ate biscuits 😬. My only reason was a rip-roaring migraine, self-induced by rushing to work with no breakfast and a bit dehydrated, and feeling awful by home time with no break. I wolfed the nearest carbs to hand in order to take painkillers, and carried on with tea and biscuits (and no other food) rest of day due to feeling so nauseous.

Ahem… onwards and upwards today!
Weighing the same luckily, so plenty of veg, water and walking planned.

Givemestrengthorvodka · 05/09/2022 09:38

Morning everyone, how are you all?

I'm feeling much better and it's 3 weeks to my 10k...if I decide to do it! I'm wondering how much weight I can lose in 3 weeks without crash dieting and doing lots of exercise. Think I might go mostly low carb other than when I'm running.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Blowyourowntrumpet · 05/09/2022 16:10

Hi everyone. Just checking in. I've lost 25lbs since the start of June. Still another stone and a half to go. Seems like a massive task, just need to stay focused.

Givemestrengthorvodka · 05/09/2022 22:00

@Blowyourowntrumpet holy smokes, that's amazing! Well done! How do you feel? Any favourite meal or recipe ideas you want to share?

OP posts:
PanicAtTheBigTesco · 06/09/2022 03:09

Thanks for all the well wishes, definitely ready for a holiday!

@Blowyourowntrumpet you blow that trumpet! That's amazing well done!

rosepelargonium · 06/09/2022 13:37

@Blowyourowntrumpet, aptly named! What an amazing sustained loss - well done.
Due to biscuit overload, I have not lost my last week’s kilo, but not gained either - happy with that!

Blowyourowntrumpet · 06/09/2022 21:17

Thanks for the lovely comments. I'm finding it tough, but can see progress.

I've been trying to cut down on carbs. I've made a Spanish tortilla a few times with lots of vegetables and hardly any potato. I used the Jamie Oliver recipe and it's really easy to make. Keeps well in the fridge and is lovely cold.
How's everyone else getting on? We can do this!

Rogue1001MNer · 10/09/2022 08:00

Hi all.

Checking in.

@Blowyourowntrumpet bloody hell. Well done. You're an inspiration to us all!

@rosepelargonium staying the same is fine. I hope the last few days have been better.

So, I've had a week on being back in the game after a summer of being a bit half-hearted (I work term time only, so I've just been off for 6 weeks).
I did 3 exercise classes last week plus one swim, and I'm swimming again later.

No booze and eating much more sensibly.
I'm heavier than I was when the schools broke up in July, but I've lost 3lb this week.
Another 5lb will get me back to end of last term's weight
And then I'd REALLY like to lose another 10lb before we break up in October.
That might be too ambitious, but we'll see.
I'd like to lose enough that if I put on some weight in October half term, I'm still in the 14s.
The good thing for me is that I'm feeling quite positive and determined atm.

How's everyone else doing?
