Drumroll please...15st 12lbs 😥. I'm tall so can get away with it to some extent but i went on holiday recently and felt the whole time feeling uncool and uncomfortable.

I've been struggling with my weight since coming off the pill over 10 years ago but this is an all time high (or low!) point.

Where to go from here?! I love exercise, and when I'm good with my diet I'm good, but I have such a sweet tooth and can eat a massive bar of chocolate every night. Time to chance though as this is ridiculous.

Anyone fancy joining me to have some accountability?

Well stopping this would be a start....

Elsa2000 · 13/08/2022 20:43

@LimboLass if it were that simple they wouldn’t make trousers above a size 12!

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 13/08/2022 21:00

Don't know what it is about MN today but there's been lots of rude and unhelpful comments on most threads Hmm

Not tagging the poster as I'd rather they didn't come back to the thread with their unhelpful advice

Rogue1001MNer · 13/08/2022 21:27

Lovely holiday, thank you @Lifeisarollercoaster647382 and thank you for your kind words @PanicAtTheBigTesco
Hello to @Elsa2000. I did 6 dry weeks in june/July. It didn't show on the scales for a while for me, but then it did start to and it started to go down quite quickly.
Losing weight was really motivational for me. I know I've taken a big step back, but I'm back on it now.

I'm out for lunch tomorrow, and I'm intending to have salad. I'd given myself permission to drink (I'm lunching with big fans of prosecco), but maybe I'll stick to water.
Probably more sensible in the heat.

Looking forward to getting go "know" you all a little better, and good luck n strong will power to us all.

Rogue1001MNer · 13/08/2022 21:30

I should also add...

and it started to go down quite quickly

I'm VERY overweight, so I'm not totally surprised the weight started coming off when I started making big lifestyle changes

Lifeisarollercoaster647382 · 13/08/2022 21:40

Welcome @Elsa2000 . @LimboLass could you swap your daily chocolate for natural yogurt/ sugar free jelly or veg sticks maybe?
@Rogue1001MNer a salad sounds amazing with this weather.

@Givemestrengthorvodka how are you getting on this week?

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 14/08/2022 09:58

Weekly weigh in for me and unsurprisingly after the last few days I've only lost 0.2lbs. 5lbs down in 3 weeks though which albeit a little slow is good progress so going to focus on that.

JubileeTrifle · 14/08/2022 20:22

So I have cut down what I have been eating and snacking and started walking an hour a day (although this weekend has been a disaster for that). I think my boobs are smaller (I always lose weight there first).

I may give in and weight myself tomorrow, I think I need the focus from it.

knackeredagain · 14/08/2022 20:29

Hello, can I join? I’m another not so proud member of the 15st 12lb club. I exercise almost daily but I eat and drink too much, especially on the weekends, and don’t get enough daily steps in.
I think I’ll try and track my food, perhaps dropping my peanut butter on toast breakfast habit. That’s about 400kcal I could lose.

rosepelargonium · 15/08/2022 00:05

Thanks @PanicAtTheBigTesco

Yesterday just went over calories, due to taking dc’s to Wagamama. I was pleased that I managed to swerve my usual favourites of deep-fried starters and delicious juices, stuck to a reasonable noodle dish and AF beer.
I has purposely not eaten much rest of day, so went for a small pudding, which was delicious. Nice not to ruin a few days when eating out, as I usually do.

I seem to be getting used to a slightly healthier diet. My weak points are biscuits, chocolate, wine and cheese. None of any of these this week, and rewarded with a kilo loss after 3 days. I’m not ravenously hungry either - just learning, I guess, that I usually eat to excess when I am upset/anxious/bored - or thirsty.
managing more fruit and veg than usual too.
I know what I should be doing to lose weight - reversing unhealthy habits of a lifetime is hard.

Hope everyone coping, and looking forward to cooler temps and rain this week!

knackeredagain · 15/08/2022 08:03

Made it to the gym this morning but was starving so crumbled on my PB on toast resolve. I’m about to plan my meals for the rest of the day to try and accommodate it. It’s going to be another warm one today, so salad should be fine for lunch.

JubileeTrifle · 15/08/2022 08:34

Weighed myself and I am 83kilos which is almost exactly the same weight I was a year ago.
But I can see the year before that I was 69 kilos. Boo.

knackeredagain · 15/08/2022 21:05

I hear you on the unhealthy habits @rosepelargonium. I went off the rails today. It was so easy to do. I’ve been tired today which is always a trigger for can’t be arsed ness for me, and I’m a bit PMTish too.

Ive tracked my food though. Around 2000 calories which is way over my target of 1600, but my Fitbit says I’ve done 2400 in exercise between steps and a workout, so I’m going to draw a line and try again tomorrow.

I’m glad I found this thread - I’ve been on another support thread through MN which was wonderfully supportive, so I’m hoping we can cheer each other on…

Givemestrengthorvodka · 16/08/2022 11:00

Hi everyone and welcome to everyone that has joined the last few days! I've been away since Thursday and just catching up on the thread now. I wasn't too heavy on the calories while away but definitely won't have lost anything. I'm yet to weigh in, going to make Friday my weigh in day each week.

Today I'm sticking with low carb and lots of water. Off alcohol for the rest of the week and packing in lots of fresh fruit and veg.

I'm in Scotland and that's my DC back at school today. I think getting back to the routine will help with my eating habits and exercise routine

OP posts:
knackeredagain · 16/08/2022 14:50

Routine makes such a difference, doesn’t it @Givemestrengthorvodka? I find it so much easier to stick to a meal plan if the house is running like clockwork. Sadly, it rarely is 🤣

I just realised I logged my toast twice yesterday so it wasn’t as bad as I thought!!

Givemestrengthorvodka · 16/08/2022 22:44

@knackeredagain I think realising you've double counted your toast is the weight loss equivalent of finding £20 in the street!

I've had a good day, stayed well within calorie range and did a spin class and a 5k walk. Hoping for a good day again tomorrow.

How is everyone doing?

OP posts:
autumnlights · 17/08/2022 10:29

Morning everyone I have just dared to weigh myself and I am more than a stone heavier than I thought I was. I have actually lost a bit of weight recently and felt good about myself, but seeing those figures has felt like a big knockdown. I've put on three stone since the start of lockdown. It will all come off, just looking for solidarity so I don't sob!x

Givemestrengthorvodka · 17/08/2022 21:39

Hi @autumnlights there is nothing more demotivating than feeling good and lighter and stepping on the scales to see otherwise. But try to ignore the scales and focus on how you feel. I swear my scales have a mind of their own sometimes!

And you've come to the right place for solidarity...we are in it together!

I've had another good day, stuck to my calorie allowance and off to bed for am early night.

rosepelargonium · 18/08/2022 02:03

Second kilo lost in under 2 weeks :)

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 18/08/2022 07:32

Morning all.

I've lost 1lb this week, making 10lb in four weeks. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little disappointed. On the plus side, I've barely been hungry and my cravings are subsiding too.

Hope everyone's ok.

Getoffmygrass · 18/08/2022 08:49

I feel like I’m at rock bottom with my weight. I’m pretty sure I’ve been fat for longer than I’ve been slim in my life. I’m at least 15 stone 12 and I need to be around 9/10 stone. I’m not even really sure where to start.

wilddreams · 18/08/2022 08:57

@Getoffmygrass I'm sure I've breached the 15 st mark this past few months. I have lost a few lbs and when I felt brave enough to step in the scales yesterday I still closer to 15 than 14. I had some harsh words with myself yesterday and woke up today feeling much more positive. I'm here for solidarity if you need it! My weaknesses are eating kids leftovers, wine and cheese. I also work awkward hours so tend to miss lunch and fill upon snacks. Maybe identifying where you go wrong can help you make a start x

JubileeTrifle · 18/08/2022 09:12

How are people setting their calories? At the moment I am just cutting down and then eating a normal evening meal

rosepelargonium · 18/08/2022 16:53

@Getoffmygrass I’m absolutely at rock bottom too. I weigh considerably more than when I was heavily pregnant with youngest child.
I’m weigh a stone more than you, and ideally need to get down to around 10 stone, so similar amount to lose.
Just start. You can do it! Doing something is better than nothing, because if I do nothing, my weight continues to sloooooowly creep up.
I’m already knackered, and have creaky, achy joints. I can’t be far off significant joint damage/diabetes/other health issues if I do nothing.
I’d also like to look in the mirror without wincing, and be able to fit into some of my lovely clothes.

My changes are:

don’t buy biscuits, then I can’t eat them

small amount of chocolate 2-3x per week (rather than huge bars most days)

less alcohol - perhaps a medium glass of wine 2-3x per week - so within recommended limits for health, cuts down on calories, reduces alcohol-fuelled overeating

more water in addition to my tea habit

more veg in quantity and variety - which I love, mostly roasted. Recommend Bertolli olive oil spray for a very light coating - it’s an aerosol and much better than pump sprays. I do 1 or 2 large trays of roasted veg a week to eat cold for work lunches or microwave for dinner, with protein and some interesting sauces/condiments

mostly berries/melon/apples for fruit, occasional small banana

good fats protein and calcium: Greek full fat yogurt, smaller amount of cheese, eggs, tofu, fish, chicken, lean meat, avocado
interesting cold-pressed oils, butter, nuts and seeds in small amounts

lower GI carbs where possible - wholemeal or rye bread, brown rice, sweet potatoes, lentils. More beans - can’t beat beans on toast - but wholemeal bread and no added sugar baked beans.

Microwave pouches of whole grains or cooked lentils are brilliant - Merchant Gourmet Tomatoey Lentils particularly. I have half a pack with chicken or white fish, baby spinach and roasted courgettes and cherry tomatoes, good squeeze of lemon and extra-virgin olive oil - just in reasonably small portion.

Another favourite is Biona tinned organic black beans in chilli sauce - mild but really tasty. Lovely on roasted sweet potato or rice with cheese, avocado, salsa and yogurt with a good squeeze of lime and fresh coriander.

Only 2 weeks in, but it has not been difficult. Helps that I love cooking, but I am a very busy single mum in full-time work, so I need to plan for some quick meals.
If not, I resort to buttered white toast and tea and biscuits when I am tired - for every meal!

rosepelargonium · 18/08/2022 16:57

Sorry, and attempting 1500 calories per day (not strict on this if have done more exercise), and work up to 10, 000 steps daily. Lucky if I reach half of this at present, but again something better than nothing.
IF in form of no breakfast really helps me not be ravenous for the rest of the morning, but can’t always manage this.
