Just weighted myself and I am...

Drumroll please...15st 12lbs 😥. I'm tall so can get away with it to some extent but i went on holiday recently and felt the whole time feeling uncool and uncomfortable.

I've been struggling with my weight since coming off the pill over 10 years ago but this is an all time high (or low!) point.

Where to go from here?! I love exercise, and when I'm good with my diet I'm good, but I have such a sweet tooth and can eat a massive bar of chocolate every night. Time to chance though as this is ridiculous.

Anyone fancy joining me to have some accountability?

Can I join this thread, please? I'm around 16st, the biggest I've ever been, and just lost 4lbs on my first week. I've set myself a goal of around 14.5st by the end of October!

rosepelargonium · 18/08/2022 18:57

Wow, well done @PurpleSky300 !

Givemestrengthorvodka · 18/08/2022 21:56

@PurpleSky300 welcome to the group and well done on your 4lbs weight loss, that's brilliant and what a boost to your motivation.

I've had another good day, toast with egg and beans for brunch and soup for dinner , plus some fruit. And a 15 minute spin class and a swim this evening. 3 days on the trot and it's Friday tomorrow...que the perfect time for me to pack it in for the weekend and fill myself with gin and Crisps but I'm really going to try hard not to do that!

@rosepelargonium @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa just spotted your posts, well done on the weight loss over the last 2 and 4 weeks, that's brilliant! I think it's great when you can see your weightloss over a period of a few weeks or months...it makes those 'bad days' feel less bad and less insurmountable!

Givemestrengthorvodka · 18/08/2022 22:09

@Getoffmygrass joining this thread seems like a fantastic place to start if you ask me 😊. When I find the idea of it all a bit overwhelming I try to remember something I heard from Joe Wicks which was just try to do one thing each day, no matter how small. So that might be a short walk round the block, or just having a couple of biscuits and not the whole pack. Don't worry about the bigger picture, just done one small positive action that you can today.

@rosepelargonium your food selection for the week sounds delicious. And I like the sound of the bertolli aerosol. I have a pump bottle of that 1cal stuff but it's pretty bogging.

Sorry I've been awhol this week, after a pretty bad weekend I got stuck in a bit of a funk Monday/Tuesday and had no motivation whatsoever (including at work) so are rubbish and did no steps. I wish I could break the cycle of emotional eating.

Managed to pull myself together and have good days food wise Wednesday/Thursday, and my weight is now going in the right direction, and have a good day planned for today. Not sure what our plans are for this weekend yet which is where it normally all unravels, I do have a gousto box coming tomorrow though which will stop is from ordering takeaway or eating out at least!

Sorry not got time to go through all replies priestly but well done for everyone who has had good losses and welcome to any newbies.

Givemestrengthorvodka · 19/08/2022 08:19

I've weighed in and I'm 15'9 so 3 lbs off since I first posted 4 weeks ago. Not a great achievement but better than nothing and I'm feeling motivated to keep going over the weekend which is usually the point I think stuff it and eat all my calories and then some. And im off to the gym this morning. This 10k is looming, 5 weeks on sunday and i really need to lose a decent few lbs by then. Have a good day everyone!

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 19/08/2022 08:21

@Givemestrengthorvodka my weight loss has also been slow and I think that's why I was feeling down at the staff of the week, I'm trying to remind myself that even maintaining is better than continuing to put weight on at the rate I was so even a small loss is a big bonus!

PurpleSky300 · 19/08/2022 21:45

So I've fallen into a habit of daily weighing which is not good - keep obsessing about every half-pound. On the plus side though, I've noticed how quickly my appetite seems to be changing - can't eat the same huge portions, feel full quicker etc. When I'm being 'mindful' about food and actively thinking about it, I can stick to it. If I let myself stop thinking though, that's when I slip. A sausage roll here, plate of pasta there, bagel with cheese etc..it just mounts up and you never seem to realise.

Hairyfairy01 · 21/08/2022 07:17

Can I join please? I have just had the shock of weighing myself. 16 stone at 5'7. I have never weighed anywhere near so much in my life. Aim to lose at least 4 stone over the next year (holiday booked for July). I also love exercise but since covid have fallen out of routine with it. A few years ago I was running marathons, now I couldn't even run 1k. I also drink a lot of fizzy drinks. I struggle with 'dieting' but definitely want to eat healthier, cut right back on the fizzy drinks and start exercising again.

Givemestrengthorvodka · 21/08/2022 10:22

Welcome @Hairyfairy01 🤗 !

How is everyone getting on? I've managed to reduce my 3 day weekend blowout to just one (last night). And I tracked every calorie of it and now I'm not at all surprised about why I've been putting on weight! Calories go astronomical very quickly on a Saturday night.

@Hairyfairy01 have you tried diluting juice (squash, if you're not scottish I think) with fizzy water as a replacement for fizzy drinks?

knackeredagain · 21/08/2022 11:15

Hi @Hairyfairy01!

Urgh, I’ve totally bombed this weekend. Wine, takeaways, lazing around. I need a proper plan for the week.

My gym buddy is back from holiday, so I’m hoping that will help. I’ve basically treated her holiday like my holiday.

jalu47 · 21/08/2022 19:33

@knackeredagain I've had a terrible weekend too. Too much wine and pizza 🙄

Back to tracking properly this week.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 21/08/2022 20:01

1lb down this week, happy with that after having a rubbish start to the week.

Yesterday wasn't great as we were out all day so I know I will have been over on calories but managed to stick to them today (very unusual for a Sunday!) despite having a McDonald's for breakfast as DP was hungover . 50k steps this week which is ok, going to really try to get 70k next week.

Welcome @Hairyfairy01 I've recently started drinking Kombucha which might be worth a try, I initially bought it as I want to improve my digestive health and heard it's great for that but there's also suggestions it may aid weight loss! Can't say I have suddenly dropped a stone or anything but might be worth a try to help the fizzy drink cravings.

Hairyfairy01 · 21/08/2022 20:53

Thanks for all the welcomes. Will certainly look into a few of these ideas for fizzy drinks replacements. I have managed not to have any today, which is the first whole day I have gone without on as long as I can remember. Been drinking loads of water, been on a 5 mile walk and resisted snacks.

Sorry to hear that some peoples weekends haven't gone to plan. Weekends are loads harder than week days to resist food types / alcohol. Tomorrows plan for me is to dig out my fit bit with the aim to walk 10K steps a day, keep up with the water drinking and not to binge eat rubbish! Just trying to take one day at a time atm.

rosepelargonium · 22/08/2022 16:04

Weekend also not quite as good for me - not enough veg, water or steps, although keeping to 1500 cal or very close.

@Givemestrengthorvodka It is astounding how much a blowout adds up to when you honestly log the calories, isn’t it? I should not be at all surprised I have ended up here, when I calculate how many calls in a packet of chocolate digestives…!

Onwards and upwards, everyone

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 22/08/2022 16:24

Thought I was going to have a really good day today, put all my meals and snacks into MFP last night and was still going to be under by 300 calories.

Went to make my lunch and realised I had put the calories in for half the pack not a full pack! Still 60 calories under but some for this week so was try and stay 200-300 under so I have a bit of a buffer come bank holiday.

The most annoying thing is that I originally only logged my lunch and dinner (i never normally bother with breakfast) but as I still had 700 calories left and we had some bagels that needed eating I decided to have 2 for breakfast, so I would have been fine if I had just skipped breakfast as normal!

I know it's not the end of the world but has reminded me to check and double check what I'm putting in MFP.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 22/08/2022 16:24

That should say GOAL for this week!

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 26/08/2022 15:49

How is everyone getting on this week?

The long weekend is definitely going to be a struggle!

Rogue1001MNer · 27/08/2022 18:13

Hello everyone.
I haven't been around too much.

(My TL:DR for the newbies is that since june I was losing weight (not drinking booze, eating sensibly, restarting exercise) and doing quite well, but then went on holiday and put half of it back on).

I've been back 2 weeks (or is it 3?) and I'm exercising (tick), eating sensibly-ish (7 out of ten) and drinking less than I usually would, but too much (4 out of 10).
I've managed to lose 2 or 3 lbs.
But I haven't been properly weighing/measuring (my body) because we've been having people to stay weekends/away, and Saturdays are my weigh day.
I have 1 more week, which I'm planning to enjoy (I work term time only) and I have quite a lot of plans.
But planning to be taking things much more seriously come September 5th.
@PurpleSky300 I'm aiming for similar. I'd like to be just under 14 1/2 by end October.

Good luck to you and all of us

rosepelargonium · 27/08/2022 23:39

A third kg off in 15 days. Food doing well, but finding the exercise and avoiding wine more of a challenge!
I.m pretty sure I’m eating half my worst calories a day, or less, though, so very pleased with that. My aim was to lose a kilo a week, and on track so far.

Givemestrengthorvodka · 28/08/2022 07:44

Morning everyone, I had a really good week until Thu evening when I ate too much and had half a bottle of wine. Then again on Friday night, not too bad last night and going to really keep the calories down today. And off to a gym class this morning. Haven't weighed in. I don't think I'm going to weigh in actually for a couple of weeks as I'm finding I'm feeling better but then weigh myself and the scales don't show it so then I feel demotivated. But I'm sticking with it, 4 weeks today until this 10k!

@rosepelargonium well done on losing another kg, brilliant! What kind of meals have you been having?

@PanicAtTheBigTesco how are you getting on this week?

@Rogue1001MNer Enjoy your last week of hols. We've been back in Scotland a couple of weeks already and finding it much easier to stick to my calories now...except at weekends when it still goes to pot!

OP posts:
Rogue1001MNer · 28/08/2022 08:57

Sounds like you're both doing well.

@Givemestrengthorvodka a friend advised me to measure rather than weigh, so (not for the last couple of weeks), I'm doing that.
The tape measure can be a kinder friend than the scales, especially if you're exercising

rosepelargonium · 28/08/2022 20:05

@Givemestrengthorvodka thanks!
Lots of roasted veg, chicken, fish, less cheese than usual.
Limited bread (weighing slices of bread! The horror!) and rice. Frozen portions of cauliflower rice are pretty good with strong flavours mixed in.

However, I’m off work a lot of the time for summer holiday childcare, so mealtimes more random than usual, and navigating treats for dcs like ice-cream etc. I’ve been honest, and logged every mouthful though.
