I’m starting my Saxenda journey today! Anybody else on Saxenda with tips or success stories? I have about 10 stone to loose so a long way to go.

Good luck keep us posted how you get on I keep toying with the idea but just not brave enough to try it yet!

Hiccups1 · 24/05/2022 22:50

Thanks @Penguinparty88 ! Day one has been fine, mild nausea that comes and goes. Appetite reduced hugely so haven’t eaten half of what I normally would. I’m excited to see how well it works 🙂

Watching with interest OP. I'm currently on Orlistat, which quite frankly isn't really working at all.

Saxenda is something I want to try but my GP said I didn't meet the criteria. Not sure what that criteria is - I have a BMI of 40 and comorbidities.

Sounds like your first day went very well, good luck.

Rinatinabina · 25/05/2022 08:04

Good luck! If you feel ill switch to evenings. I still need to use will power (which is good for me cos I don’t have much). I still get hungry but I also get full quickly after eating and it’s completely stopped my snacking. Do make sure you get enough calories though, you may not feel hungry but I found I get really tired if my calories are too low (I never realise I haven’t eaten enough).

will keep an eye out for your updates.

Hiccups1 · 25/05/2022 14:06

@SedentaryCat hi! It’s been a long road to get it. I’m under tier 3 weight management for 7 months and then had to have blood tests and either be pre diabetic and high blood pressure/high chlosteral. Maybe ask your doctor for a referral to weight management, you should have more success that way 🙂
@Rinatinabina ah thanks for the advice, I’ve found today and yesterday I’m hungry when it comes to meal times but surprisingly haven’t snacked or thought about snacking throughout. Do you mind me asking how long you’ve been on it? And have you had much success?

Thanks @Hiccups1 I'm due for a follow-up with the GP in the next week or so, so I'll talk to her again about where we go next. I've lost 4lbs on Orlistat, which is due to finish in a couple of weeks. Nowhere near the 5% I need to lose to have any chance of staying on it. I'll see what she has to say.

Only on 2nd week! Think I’m down about 5lbs starting at 12st 12. I went really slowly and worked my way up on first week from 3 clicks of the pen up to 0.6.

Hiccups1 · 29/05/2022 08:45

Morning, just a bit of an update felt really hungry the last few days. Hoping when I up my dose Tuesday it will reduce hunger. Trying to be mindful of what I eat and limit the intake of food but the last couple of days have felt like a real struggle. ☹️

GirlInACountrySong · 29/05/2022 08:49

My advice is if it's working well don't be in a rush to move up the doses

It can get to the point where it no longer works well for you....hunger returns snd at 3 a day, it's expensive

TallTrees78 · 29/05/2022 21:30

Hi, joining in. Have just started and took my first dose this evening.

Hiccups1 · 29/05/2022 22:19

@GirlInACountrySong thanks for your comment. Is this a thing to not move up doses? I’m fortunate enough to have it prescribed on the NHS so am just following my dieticians advice - which is to get to the maximum dose in 5 weeks if I can get past the side effects ( not had any this week on 0.6mg)? I’ve read lots of posts where people say they don’t move up doses weekly.

@TallTrees78 Hi! Keep us updated on how you’re getting on throughout the week.

GirlInACountrySong · 30/05/2022 01:00

Once it loses its effectiveness it feels like the hunger comes back, magnified

I got up to 3. It then stopped working as well so I stopped to re-evaluate

I tried restarting and staying on a low dose but as I move up again it's not as strong as the first couple of months were. People in my group found similiar

Lost over 2 stone though

amfsda · 31/05/2022 15:30

I just started today 31/05/22 , so nervous but I have about the same to lose , 10st.
good luck

TallTrees78 · 01/06/2022 20:30

Today is my 3rd day. Felt very full Mon so ate little on the first day, but I have to say I've still felt hungry Tuesday and today. Haven't been snacking though so guess that's something.

Have only felt mild symptoms so far - bit of a headache and tired. Not felt nauseous yet.

Hiccups1 · 01/06/2022 23:00

@amfsda good luck! Keep us updated on your journey.
@TallTrees78 exactly the same as me, I’ve noticed a reduction in the calories I’m consuming.
@GirlInACountrySong I’ve noticed a lot of people on social media saying the same! If you having to buy the pens I can see why it’s disheartening.

I’ve upped now to 1.2mg and still no side effects. I lost 6lb last week. I’ve gone to bed and just realised stomach is rumbling but it’s far to late to eat now so will wait until breakfast. I’ve also started eating breakfast the last few days- just because they say you should really to kick start metabolism. How are you all getting on?

Workyticket · 01/06/2022 23:02

I've just started tonight - self funding so I'm fully intending to change my lifestyle too because of the cost

cathythegreat · 01/06/2022 23:10

Tomorrow will be week four for me, i am 11lbs down and will weigh in the morning.

I started at 13 stone 2, and target weight is 10stone 5lbs.

I've been lucky that I have had minimal side effects (other than constipation) I inject at around 6pm each day.

cathythegreat · 01/06/2022 23:16

Oh I tried to stay at 1.2 in the third week but was starving, so I went to the advised 1.8 dose, will try and stay on 1.8 for a few days longer before moving up again.

I try to eat a high protein diet, protein yoghurt for breakfast.
Almonds- snack
Calamari or prawns- lunch
Evening meal- small portion of whatever making for the kids

Lots and lot of water.
I've had the occasional bag of crisps and chocolate bar too though but not often fancied it.

During my period I usually crave junk food, I ordered myself a Big Mac in week two, when it arrived I was repulsed and couldn't eat it.

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 01/06/2022 23:23

Can I please ask what Saxenda is? Sounds interesting. Can you buy it from a chemist? Do you have to fit a certain criteria?

BackT · 04/06/2022 15:54

I've just ordered my first kit.

I'm just disgusted with myself and I need something to kick start. I'm a good 2 stone over weight.

I'm a bit scared of side effects and I'm also scared it won't actually work but even a small loss would be better than my current path to destruction.

TallTrees78 · 05/06/2022 06:38

Bought some senokot yesterday and took one last night. No movement yet, am going to buy some prune juice today. I'm so bloated and uncomfortable. I've only passed solids twice this week. Constipation seems to be main side effect I'm having.

Akite · 05/06/2022 09:05

I have ordered some which arrives today. My BMI is just over 30, I'm probably 3 stone or so overweight and now my cholesterol is high as well so I have to do something to tackle this. I lost a fair bit of weight doing intermittent fasting a few years back but during covid/lockdowns I put it all back on again. And now I'm post menopausal I need a bit of a kickstart.

Akite · 06/06/2022 10:24

Argh have really upset stomach today for some reason so have decided to delay starting the saxenda, i don't want to add side effects on top of already feeling dodgy. 🤢

BackT · 07/06/2022 20:12

Mine has arrived and I'm worrying about whether to start it when I've got to be in the office for the next 3 days.
I'm terrified of having the runs in the work loo!

Akite · 07/06/2022 20:36

I did my first jab last night in the end and felt a tiny bit queasy this morning but that's all so far (not noticed any effect on appetite yet either!).
