☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Hey all,

In-set day due to local elections. I resisted the breakfast rolls/ croissants on arrival AND the pastries at break. I'm feeling saint-like!

Lunch: low-fat humous/ 6X Ryvita/ apple/ raspberries.

Dinner: Lentil soup- large portion.

Snacks: Babybel/ low fat yogurt/ tea with milk/ Curly Wurly/ Galaxy lite hot-chocolate sachet.

SunshineCake · 05/05/2022 18:54

DH has finished building my greenhouse so all my veg are in there now hopefully thinking how lovely their new home is and rewarding me with lots of lovely veg and herbs.

Well done on revisiting the baked goods @Puffalicious I have had words with DH and said not to let me eat anything and if I am desperate I can have a milkshake. I am wondering though if a drink would still break my fast ?

ImALittlePea · 05/05/2022 20:55

I didn't input my food to MFP as I went today and as a result have gone over today 😭although I was nicely under all week so hopefully it won't be too damaging. It was kind of worth it though -

Lunch was a halloumi salad with peach salsa (a Rosie Birkett / Sunday Times recipe) which was just insanely delicious, although I had a ciabatta roll with it which I really should have sidestepped. Gah!
Dinner was loaded pasta and pesto - but this time I did swerve the garlic bread that DH had.

No snacks other than a few cuppas.

Dreading weigh in tomorrow but doing it regardless. Got to focus on upcoming holiday!

You're all inspiring me with your gardening chat! I barely did any gardening last year and I need to get myself back out there. I've done a load of clearing of the debris from 2021 neglect, just need to get some flowers and plants to pot and brighten the place up. I do love it once I'm out there so I need to set aside some time for a garden centre trawl ASAP, I think!

Benjispruce4 · 05/05/2022 21:21

Halloumi salad and peach salsa sounds right up my street. Yum! I love being in the garden pottering about too. Had a lovely long walk to the park with my dog and DH this evening and it was absolutely glorious. Clocked up 8000 steps on the walk alone. My favourite exercise.

ImALittlePea · 05/05/2022 21:45

It was amazing @Benjispruce4 although I think the recipe is behind the paywall 😏 can I post a pic of it here for anyone that wants it? Or is that illegal? 😂

ElderflowerTonic · 05/05/2022 22:20

I had porridge today at 9.00, a bagel and eggs at 3.00 and a small portion of veg curry at 6.30. Relatively healthy and with an 8.5 hour window so not too bad.
I chickened out of leaving breakfast until my morning coffee break because I had a feeling work would be crazy and in the end I didn't get my coffee break until lunch time so it was probably a good choice.
I'm off for an early night now before the urge to snack catches up with me.

SunshineCake1 · 05/05/2022 22:21

I need to learn to proof read. Resisting @Puffalicious not revisiting !

(Adds feta to shopping list)

Puffalicious · 05/05/2022 22:25

That recipe sounds delish. Photo would be great!

Flowers111 · 05/05/2022 23:32

@SunshineCake1 jealous of the greenhouse !

Flowers111 · 05/05/2022 23:36

@ImALittlePea I had halloumi salad too ! Well it was my leftover pasta salad from yesterday with some extra halloumi.
I weighed again today up 2lbs or so but I expected it. I can see on MFP it's going down overall and I prefer not to weigh once a week because I need to not have a "big bang" effect.
Under cal budget today so I reckon 2 days of lots of water I'll be down again !

Everyone who is doing booze free May still off it ? I'm determined

SanFranBear · 06/05/2022 07:07

I'm still alcohol free, Flowers.. although I don't drink a lot these days, I would've been delighted with a 6 day stretch mid pandemic!

It's my weigh day today and am surprised but delighted to be down almost another kg:

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 84.5kg
May GW: 82.5kg

That means over 20kg lost and my body is thanking me for it.. my knees, whilst still not perfect, don't hurt with every step and I have a lot more energy (when I'm not pooped from early starts!) I also thought things might start to slow as I'm approaching the lowest point I reached 7 years ago when I was in my best, pre-baby shape. I'm obviously not complaining though - long may it continue!

Have a nice walk planned this morning as my work is allowing me to start later (although work later to compensate!) so that'll be a great start to the weekend - nice and bracing and the sun is shining!

Happy Friday everyone - almost to the weekend proper 😀

Benjispruce4 · 06/05/2022 07:21

I’ve not had any booze since Sunday. That’s not that unusual as I’m a weekend drinker. I’m not going to drink tonight but tomorrow I’m at a gig that DH bought me tickets to and we’ve planned a few drinks so I don’t want to spoil it. I won’t drink on Sunday. Just want to get to a place where I don’t automatically drink on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Good luck everyone.

Benjispruce4 · 06/05/2022 07:22

@SanFranBear that’s amazing to hear such positive gains from your weight loss! Well done!

ImALittlePea · 06/05/2022 07:43

Well done @SanFranBear that's excellent!

I've had the slightest of gains (2oz) which I'm pretty happy with to be honest! I don't quite understand how but I'm taking it 😁

SanFranBear · 06/05/2022 07:43

Thanks, Benji... just realised I said pre-baby upthread when I mean post! I got down to 79kgs about 7 years ago which is the lightest I'd been since my DC had been born (and my youngest is 10 now!) My best pre-baby weight is probably unobtainable now as pregnancy does change your body shape (and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to shift that annoying overhang!) but still feeling very positive!

Have fun at your gig! I used to go to so many and have only been to a couple since the world started to open back up. Must remedy that.

I'm still doing dry May. Could drink tonight as finished antibiotics but won't as agreed to this.

ImALittlePea · 06/05/2022 08:13

Pics of recipe and my version attached (hopefully!) I added some pomegranate seeds as they go so well with halloumi. I made the full amount of salsa and we had 150g halloumi each (so just over the half a block each 😬) plus the toasted ciabatta. Without the extra slice of halloumi and the bread it wouldn't have been too bad calorie wise at all! Even more so if the salsa had been split four ways as the recipe suggests 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I'm only allowing myself the booze if I have 'room' for it calories-wise.

Good news is today I tried on my beloved cropped Boden trousers that are my summer staple and 4 weeks back looked like I might have to give to my 13 year old as I couldn't do them up, and it seems they'll be in play again. Similarly a pair of work trousers I could barely get into are looking a better fit once more. Everything goes to my waist first, but also leaves there then.

8stone13 · 06/05/2022 08:47

Morning all 👋🏻

Fantastic stuff @SanFranBear

Fri 6th May - 9s 3 & 1/2lb
BMI 21.4
BF 23.8

I've made a real effort the last few days & it's paying off, stats are down. Very late period has finally appeared which has probably helped. I'm still doing my no-chocolate-during-the-week thing, it's getting easier to do & I do feel better for it.

I'm out to lunch with a great friend at my favourite local restaurant today which I shall henceforth rename 'Put 1lb On Bistro' as I'm always up 1lb at least the day after I eat there 😀 But it'll shift, & it's worth it. I'll be back to being sensible tomorrow.

Foreverlexicon · 06/05/2022 08:51

Morning everyone.
I’m still not back on the wagon. I can’t find the energy for calorie counting as we are officially on foal watch so I’m up at least twice in the night to check her.

Going to try and eat a bit better though, just make better choices as I feel like a blob. Normal service will resume once baby is here.

SunshineCake · 06/05/2022 09:32

I don't do calorie counting at all @Foreverlexicon The way I cook it just wouldn't work for me and would cause so much stress that it would be unsustainable. I don't need anymore stress right now. Do your best and it will all help.

Everyone, it is time for some water.

Reminder to me - eat your melon today.

CrimsonAlligator · 06/05/2022 10:17

Morning all! As is so often the case with me, one day of being off plan led to another yesterday. I’m trying not to let it get to me though. Today is yet another chance to try again!

My plan for today:
Breakfast: Skyr, fruit & seeds
Lunch: Roasted pepper & lentil soup, pitta & cheese
Dinner: Smoky aubergine tagine with bulgur wheat (I ended up having something far less healthy on Wednesday, when I had originally planned to have this)

I’ve already done an hour of rowing this morning, so whatever happens during the rest of the day, at least I did ok on the exercise front 💪

@SanFranBear 20 kg is fantastic progress and it’s brilliant that you’re seeing other benefits too. When did you start losing weight?

Trounlet · 06/05/2022 10:49

I'm on Dry May at the moment, I will be drinking over the weekend as I'm away with friends, but I'll also be walking 10+ miles a day so I'm hoping it will balance things.

I'm currently getting back into veg gardening as my asparagus patch is doing so well this year, I'm hoping to grow all the healthy fruit and veg I've not eaten for years so that's keeping me off the chocolate treats.

SingaporeSlinky · 06/05/2022 11:04

Sunshine I’m not sure if anyone answered your question, but yes a milkshake would break a fast. Apparently black tea or black coffee would be fine, but once you add milk, or sugar, or any other kind of drink that essentially contains calories, it’s breaking the fast. The point of it is to give your digestive system a break, and allow it to start ‘repairing’ your cells, so plain water is best, otherwise you’re starting off the digestion system into work again.
