☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@SanFranBear and @Echobelly - yes it is interesting as to why/how we eat so much which is partly why I've signed up with Noom.

@Echobelly - it's great you're not tempted to snack but for me, it is a bit a case I think of reward vs denial which can mess with your head a bit.

SunshineCake · 26/05/2022 18:09

@Flowers111 what about Paul McKenna I can make you thin ? I might have my copy somewhere.

@SanFranBear @Benjispruce4 @Graphista I went for a run this afternoon and had a pain along the bottom of my tummy, not stitch like in my side but something. I managed the run but by the end I was feeling bloated and looked it. Really confused as to what was happening as I haven't felt bloated for a really long time and haven't had stomach pain like that either for ages.

Sorry you are having a tough time @ImALittlePea . With regards to your email tonight could you not eat when it suits you and your dh warms his up when he gets in? It is important that his hobby doesn't negatively impact on your plan. You can still sit with him and chat. Hopefully you can sort out the issue with your friend very quickly and with no more stress.

Benjispruce4 · 26/05/2022 19:16

@SunshineCake when my sister had her fibroid, it was bizarre as she would swell up over a period of hrs. It affected her bladder control too. It all stopped after she had it removed. I think I’d lay off the running for now until you know what’s going on on. Try a brisk walk as lower impact.

Benjispruce4 · 26/05/2022 19:19

So, I went shopping and ended up buying sushi for my dinner as DD working DH out. Was yummy , filling and only 360 cals.Kiwi with yoghurt later.

SunshineCake · 26/05/2022 19:41

<panic at having to stop running> this is not healthy is it @Benjispruce4 ?Sad. It really helps my mental health but today was new in how I felt. Still 3 and a bit weeks until my scan.

Benjispruce4 · 26/05/2022 20:29

You have to do what you think is best @SunshineCake . Walking is great for mental health too 😊

ImALittlePea · 26/05/2022 20:39

@SunshineCake our window to eat is generally with the kids or after their bedtime, and I just wasn't prepared today! I'm normally fine with waiting for DH to get home, but as I say - my emotions were trying to sabotage me. But I stuck to my guns (and the water) which has helped my mood no end!

Flowers111 · 26/05/2022 21:22

@SunshineCake thanks - I have it actually on audio and the book 😭 I also have Alan Carr how to stop eating so much. That worked for me before I might try it again.
To be honest the only way I've ever lost weight before was by "embracing hunger" ie knowing I was a bit hungry at times, having water or fruit and healthy eating the rest of the time.
What I really need is someone to follow me around and take food out of my hand 🤣

SunshineCake · 26/05/2022 21:27

<grabs food from @Flowers111 >Grin

Flowers111 · 26/05/2022 21:28

@SunshineCake 🤣🤣🤣

Flowers111 · 26/05/2022 21:29

I wish there was a tablet or something you could take.
Like just a daily pill to reduce your appetite with no other side effects.

SunshineCake · 26/05/2022 21:43

Do you drink water or eat salad leaves before your meal @Flowers111 ? They are tips I have read that are meant to help one eat less.

Flowers111 · 26/05/2022 21:52

@SunshineCake I don't drink enough water for sure.
I'm a bit of an all or nothing person either I'm on a diet/ ie focussed and feeling positive about making progress or I just eat/drink what I like. It's hard to focus when you feel out of shape and can't see any point really.
But I'm also genuinely hungry a lot. I think there is a possibility that your body fights you when you want to start losing weight - giving you the munchies etc. then if you can break through that you're on a winner because you need less food.

SanFranBear · 27/05/2022 07:19

It's my weigh day and bit disappointed as I've stayed the same which is only a bummer as I'm pretty sure I'll gain a bit next week as am away so wanted to get a little more off before that. It just underscores the loss from last week though and I passed my May goal, so need to stop whingeing!

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 81.9kg
May GW: 82.5kg

Need to start thinking of where I want to be end of next month... the lowest I've been since pre DC (and my eldest is 13 in a couple of weeks!) is just around the corner so might try and get under that. I'm paranoid that I'll get stuck at this weight though which is ridiculous but this is where I stalled before and its only been up since then. I'm in a much better mindset this time though so NO - pull yourself together, woman!

I've been reading the Bariatric Surgery threads and whilst I think the posters are pretty damn brave, I know it's not a route I could follow so need to make this stick. I definitely need to drink more water as have failed miserably over the last few weeks and I'll be out later - got a nice hike planned over a big hill which I've visited lots of times, but have always driven to the top of rather than walked! Gonna be a killer 😬

ImALittlePea · 27/05/2022 07:19

@Flowers111 I know what you mean about embracing hunger! It's always been an automatic response to eat as soon as I feel hungry, but actually I've realised that it's ok to feel hungry and that just be a feeling. Have a water and wait until it's time to eat.

Weighed in this morning - 1 1/4lb off! I wasn't expecting it so really chuffed with that 😁 it's the biggest single loss I've had since early April, so it was needed. And just in time for the school holiday 🤦‍♀️

Trying to remain more focused this half term.. got a few plans in place that involve a fair amount of walking, and not many that involve lunches out with the children. So I'm hoping there won't be too much damage come next week 🙏🤞

TheRealHousewife · 27/05/2022 07:30

Menu sounds delicious @TheRealHousewife when you have time can you share your recipe/method for halloumi stir fry?

I always forget about cauliflower rice, but had it with leftover chilli this week and it was so nice. And no-one else eats it in my house so don't need to share it either - bonus!

Flowers111 · 27/05/2022 07:57

@ImALittlePea well done !!! 👏👏👏
@SanFranBear staying the same is a result !!! 👏👏👏

Flowers111 · 27/05/2022 07:58

@TheRealHousewife love halloumi - always reminds me of Greece ☀️☀️☀️

Benjispruce4 · 27/05/2022 08:34

Just tested positive Covid positive 😏

milkfromthesleepycow · 27/05/2022 09:17

@Benjispruce4 oh dear! Do you feel unwell with it? Rest and lots of fluids!

Benjispruce4 · 27/05/2022 09:28

I feel like I have a cold/ hayfever. I’m triple jabbed and this is my first infection which isn’t bad considering I’m a TA and have worked right through Covid. Just a bit miffed as it’s half term next week.

CrimsonAlligator · 27/05/2022 10:08

Morning all! Well I finally weighed myself this morning and am definitely not happy with what I saw. I’m two kg up from the start of the month 😬 It’s not that surprising and hopefully at least some of that will shift soon, but it just goes to show how little it takes to start gaining again. Sigh!

Well done on your loss @ImALittlePea . That really sucks @Benjispruce4 . Fingers crossed it stays mild

TheRealHousewife · 27/05/2022 11:57

@ImALittlePea I don’t follow a recipe as such and varies depending on what I have in. Today it will be:-

40g Halloumi cut into small cubes.
5g Hot sesame oil
Cavolo Nero thinly sliced
Carrot cut into small pieces
Red Pepper cut into small pieces
Hand full of sprouted lentil or butter beans.

I fry fry off the Halloumi in the sesame oil until browned then add the rest of the ingredients. Really simple.
