☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Sorry you are disappointed @SanFranBear but a staying the same is still a win. You can't enjoy your holiday and will make good choices.

Well done @ImALittlePea !

Oh no @Benjispruce4 ! I hope you aren't feeling too rubbish. Get as much rest as you can.

Sorry you aren't happy @CrimsonAlligator but you will get back on it.

I woke about half four and didn't really go back to sleep. I really struggled to get up so DH told me to stay in bed and he took the dog for a walk. It was almost ten before I got up but I've been busy since. I've done some weeding, a wash load, Inhave dough for pretzels in the bread maker and fruity tea cake dough proving in the airing cupboard. DH has gone to get DS1 from the station which was a lovely surprise as wasn't expecting him until later tonight. He has take DD with him to go shopping after for her drinks and food for her weekend trip away <frets>. I don't feel like I want to leave the house today Sad but I have offered to get DS2 from school at 1.20pm.

Benjispruce4 · 27/05/2022 15:49

B- poached egg on toast
L- chicken salad, apple
lots of water.
Bored of my bedroom already!!!

SunshineCake · 27/05/2022 16:22

Give yourself a manicure @Benjispruce4.

Ive been baking all day and now I'm done. No more jobs.

Made - pretzels, fruity tea cakes and apple and mincemeat rock buns. All very nice.

Benjispruce4 · 27/05/2022 16:39

@SunshineCake hmmm painted my nails already this week!
Why are you baking tasty temptations ???🤔

SunshineCake · 27/05/2022 16:42

Sorry. I was struggling so needed to keep busy.

Benjispruce4 · 27/05/2022 16:45

Don’t apologise to me, I’m thinking of the temptation for you!! Do you work @SunshineCake ?

SunshineCake · 27/05/2022 16:49

I had a good lunch so just having a small tea and then won't have anything else.

I don't have a job, no. I've been a SAHM since pregnant with dc1.

TheRealHousewife · 27/05/2022 16:54

Apologies @Benjispruce4 i missed you writing you contracted covid. Hope you’re not too ill and recover quickly 😷

Benjispruce4 · 27/05/2022 16:54

I used to be a sahm until youngest(now 18) started school. I find work great for keeping your mind busy, especially in school as I don’t have a minute to think. I find the long school holidays more of a challenge as worries can creep in. Would a job help you?

SunshineCake · 27/05/2022 18:08

I have done a lot of volunteering over the years but dh has retired now ams atm I don't want to go out to work. I need to be here as we don't feel out of the woods with dd.

Benjispruce4 · 27/05/2022 20:10

I get that. I just find too much thinking time unhelpful. Everyone is different.

SunshineCake · 27/05/2022 20:27

Just went on the treadmill but has to stop as getting pain.

Emotionally struggling today.

Benjispruce4 · 27/05/2022 20:57

@SunshineCake I think your body is asking to be treated gently at the moment. 💐

SanFranBear · 27/05/2022 21:39

Big hugs, Sunshine - sounds very overwhelming at the moment but your house is full of DC for the moment so hope you have a lovely Friday evening. I love a rock cake - you never really see them anymore, do you?

Hope you're over your Covid nice and quickly, Benji - impressed you've dodged it up to now considering your job! Everything sort of says it's gone away (ir media and the like) but ita definitely still out there, kicking peoples butts! Hope you escape with no long term symptoms - I'm still waiting for my smell and taste to sort themselves out even though I didn't lose them when I was ill... they've just gone up the spout in the last few months!

My poor DD experienced her first heartbreak today - she'd been 'dating' her best friend for the past 3 weeks, unbeknownst to me, but she broke up with her today and she was devastated. Not for the loss of the romantic relationship but because she feels she's lost her best friend. My heart hurts for her too - I'm hopeful they can salvage it as they really were sweet, sweet friends but will have to see what happens.

DC with their Dad tonight (who isn't to know any of the above as he's pretty against DD having any romantic feelings, let alone for a girl!) so got out for a decent 16k hike. Legs hurting but felt so good to be out in the sun!

SunshineCake · 27/05/2022 22:11

You could be right @Benjispruce4 , especially as I have bled a little day. It is so hard as mentally I need to run, it helps in a way I don't really understand but when I am struggling with X then it gives me a focus and hopefully I benefit health and weight wise.

Just two of my children are here @SanFranBear as it was a flying visit today from DS1 and I haven't seen much of them but it is nice knowing they are here. I am feeling worried as DD is away tomorrow morning until Sunday afternoon and I'm scared about what she might do. My rock buns were really nice and I was able to use home made mince meat I had left from Christmas.

So sorry to hear about your DDs heart break. It is horrible no matter the age. I still think about my first love, and he me, and it doesn't really get any easier.

Flowers111 · 27/05/2022 22:26

@Benjispruce4 that's bad luck !
Hope you feel better soon...

pennysays · 27/05/2022 22:45

Hello everyone. Checking in for this week. Up to 73kg which is annoying because it did exactly what I said I would do in my last post - stop eating so much bread, more fruit and lower carbs at dinner. It’s annoying to see the scale move ip but I know it’s a legacy from the previous weeks rather than a reflection of my moderation now.

lots of sport this week too. Now to keep it up in the holidays when things get very static!

buzzofthebumblebee · 28/05/2022 08:05

Hope you feel better soon@Benjispruce4 & don't get too bored. Enforced rest if nothing else.

Great walk @SanFranBear . Your poor DD. How old is she?

Sorry to hear you are in pain @SunshineCake on top of everything. Not good. Hope your DD makes it home safe after her weekend away. But can I say how impressed I am at what you fit in during one day?!

I took day off work yesterday and blitzed my garden. I'm no gardener at all, and no idea what to do when. It tends to get left until I can't bear to look at the weeds and dead stuff any more, then I spend the whole day out there. I even treated it to extra top soil and bed treatment. Should have read the label - very high manure content !!! Hoping neighbours won't complain. But all in all I had a productive and active day, and too busy to eat.

Listened to an audio book as I went - no diet audio books for me though. I good classic fiction to let my head escape.

Great attitude @pennysays - don't be despondent and give up - the hard work will pay off

Have a good weekend everyone

CrimsonAlligator · 28/05/2022 08:27

Morning all! I had a good day yesterday, in spite of visiting a lovely cafe and DH buying us a tub of ice cream later as a treat. I resisted all the tasty looking cakes in the first and just had a cup of tea, and fitted a bit of the 2nd within my calories. I still had 100 calories spare at the end of the day and also spent an hour on the X-trainer, which I’m sure burnt off a few extra calories.

Today might be a bit harder as it’s our wedding anniversary. It’s possible DH planned some grand romantic gesture with calorific consequences. It’s also possible he completely forgot about it as we both have form for that! 😂

@SunshineCake have you ever tried meditation/ mindfulness. It’s obviously not the same as the buzz you get from running, but it can be hugely beneficial for stress and anxiety.

Your poor DD @SanFranBear . First heartbreak is bad enough as it is, but made so much worse if she thinks she’s lost a good friend. Hopefully they can patch things up.

Benjispruce4 · 28/05/2022 08:30

Thanks @buzzofthebumblebee and others. I sat in the garden last night and DH made and BBQd some koftas with pitta. So delish I had two. Slept badly but doing ok. I need to walk though.

Benjispruce4 · 28/05/2022 08:31

@SunshineCake a good long walk is good for body and soul. You see more than when running and it’s gentler on your body.

Benjispruce4 · 28/05/2022 09:02

Just read the latest guidance and I can exercise outside away from others so I will go for a walk over the fields. Phew!

TheRealHousewife · 28/05/2022 10:33

Your pizza sounds delicious, RealHousewife.. mushrooms are one of my favourites. Wouldn't think to do that with them although do love a stuffed mushroom! I'm making Calzones again later as they were such a hit with the DC - you don't need very much cheese (or dough, really) so surprisingly low calorie too.. well, until I pack them with cured meats 😋

Going to go walking again today, I think. Still haven't braved the hill I normally drive up so perhaps that's one for today. Got to make the most of DC free time!

Benjispruce4 · 28/05/2022 13:01

Please share your calzone recipe @SanFranBear
