☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@SanFranBear well done on the NSV

@Canteloupez yes horse riding. Did it loads as a kid and have taken it up again recently.

Out of curiosity I measured this morning and since Feb I am an inch off on my hips 2 off my waist and 2 off the bust. So maybe the gym, riding and regular walking is doing something!

Weighing the same as last week so somehow maintained during the birthday schenanigans !

Plan for today
Ham and feta salad
Spaghetti bolognaise

Canteloupez · 24/05/2022 07:24

@ginsparkles ah I ride too. It does build muscle for sure so I wouldn’t be surprised! Inches are more important than pounds I reckon!

SanFranBear · 24/05/2022 07:29

Oooh, Buzz - sounds like your training has been going really well then. I did Londom to Brighton way back in my 20s and swore never again - the bloody beacon at the end was pure hell. You're a superstar for signing yourself self up again - best of luck I'm beating your time, I am sure you'll do it!

Talking of superstars, what an absolutely lovely sentiment, Puffalicious. Never underestimate the power of strong women role models and whilst your childhood sounds so very hard, Sunshine, I daresay you learned how not to do it, a million times over. Some of the best mums I know are those who had little love in their early years and are so determined to break the cycle... you're doing an awesome job!

Great loss, Canteloupez - sounds like you're well on track. Enjoy your lunch out - always a treat, and especially for you as its been three years!!

I'm also losing my boobs and it sucks - a lot of my bras, the cups now gape so will need to invest in some more... would much rather be losing it from my waist but at least I'm losing it?!

I love Weetabix, Echobelly - I always have mine with hot milk and a teaspoon of cinnamon sugar... sooo good and might have to have some for my breakfast today!!

Flowers111 · 24/05/2022 07:30

Hi all sounds like everyone doing well with the weight loss ! Just quick check in - very busy weekend with family events and too much wine, so expecting an increase soon !
Also put my back out again so that's not going to help am in agony !! Just as I thought it was getting better maybe from moving chairs around or something.
It's catch 22 then because it's too sore to walk. Have bad sciatica this time too.
So a bit of a set back but that happens doesn't it. It's never linear !

SunshineCake · 24/05/2022 07:41

Great results there @Canteloupez and @ginsparkles!

Thank you @SanFranBear . I have been too soft on my kids as wanted them to have a jelly childhood and never cry. What an idiot!

Hopefully your pain doesn't last @Flowers111.

Having woken up the last two mornings in agony I am slightly better this morning but I have noticed a similar bruise to when I broke my elbow and now I am trying to remember if I have banged it and fractured something again. I've also been scratched by the cat when trying to pick her up as she has been really naughty today so feeling a bit sorry for myself but I'll be all right in a minute and not such an idiot. SunshineDog was sick overnight and dh still poorly so hoping for no more bad stuff today.

I will drop DS2 at school, go to Asda for a few bits, but no chocolate or sweets, and then run. After which I will walk the dog.

Roast chicken for dinner and lunch is soup and homemade whole meal onion focaccia. Not as nice as usual but the flour is a year past its best before so..

Canteloupez · 24/05/2022 08:48

@SunshineCake sorry you’re having a rubbish one. Fingers crossed it’s all on the up now. Very disciplined to get going with the run! I’m going to try and ride this morning so at least I’ll have done something,

TheRealHousewife · 24/05/2022 08:55

Good Morning 😊

@SanFranBear that is the best NSV I’ve ever read about! 😬Absolutely awesome 👏 2inchs extra in height makes all the difference in the weight/bmi ratios etc. During my many stays in hospital I’ve been measured between 4ft 10 and 5 ft 2. I’m probably somewhere in the middle, just shy of 5ft. One of my sisters is 4ft 9 😮

@buzzofthebumblebee I totally agree, decent bras are so expensive! I actually caught the first episode of Silent Witness last night as OH had an early night. It was very good! Well done on motivating your teen, not an easy job. Hopefully you’ve set him up for a life of fitness now the bugs bitten him 👏🏅Here’s to you improving your pb! 👍

@Puffalicious sorry to read you’re suffering! I hope you find some relief (and that it gets passed for women to take menstrual leave!)

@Canteloupez Well done on your progress 👍Hopefully you’ll soon be at your goal!

@ginsparkles Fabulous progress with your reduction in measurements! Awesome NSV👏

@Flowers111 You have my upmost sympathy. Sciatica is so brain numbingly painful 😣 Hope you find some relief!

@SunshineCake Hope your day gets better!

Menu
Meal 1 - Mushroom Omelette & salad. Strawberries & kefir yoghurt.
Meal 2 - Chilli and spicy Cauli rice.
Tea, coffee, water.

Enjoy your day!

Lovely post @TheRealHousewife . I like Silent Witness to admire Emilia Fox's outfits too. If I was tall and slim I would copy the look. But it helps to prod me in the right direction of what is in fashion at the moment, as I'm not great. Like @Graphista I know what shapes suit my body, and so I am usually more classic than fashionable!

Thanks for kind words everyone on my bike training. To be honest I only do it as I want to actually see my DH at the weekend. He's very supportive of my efforts, but I have NO inclination to join a club or anything like that. As for Ditchling Beacon, I will walk and push my bike up. No need for heroics (or stupidity). But to have got DS up and out is a huge achievement.

And I couldn't have said @Puffalicious and @SanFranBear 's words better. None of us are perfect, we do our best, and it is through "failures" that we grow and strive to do better. But one thing that comes across more than anything is the love you have for your family @SunshineCake1 They are ALL very lucky to have you, esp with your veggie garden and home made bread !!!!!

Great stats @ginsparkles - lost inches and no gain !! Food sounds good. I love feta - even a small bit is very satisfying.

Backache is SO annoying. You have my sympathies @Flowers111

Great loss @Canteloupez hope it continues.

Have a good day everyone

SunshineCake · 24/05/2022 13:09

Jelly childhood??!?! I meant happy.

Well my day did not get better. I got soaked walking the dog, I think I have broken my shoulder and I have received a letter from my mother where she basically calls me names.

And my scales say I have put 3lbs on in a day which I hope you agree is nonsense.

TheRealHousewife · 24/05/2022 14:28

@buzzofthebumblebee Meant every word 😊

@SunshineCake the scales are being ridiculous, ignore them! 😬

Hello everyone
I went awol for a while but I'm back. I'm really sorry but I haven't had chance to catch up on your posts but i really hope you are all losing those pounds nicely. I have been really back on it this week and my current stats are:

SW = 10st 12lbs
CW = 10st 2.5lbs
GW = 9st 6lbs (by early Aug if possible!!)

I can definately see my body shape changing which feels rewarding. I am calorie counting at 1200 per day plus a 30 min fast walk and then 10 mins on the cross trainer daily, however I'm now wanting to also start focusing on toning up my tummy. Has anyone got any suggestions of what has worked for them? I have read about hula hooping so thinking of buying a weighted hula hoop? All suggestions for a more toned up tum are welcome! X

ImALittlePea · 24/05/2022 16:31

@Echobelly have you tried unsweetened almond milk with cereal? A few years ago I went to a PT and she recommended it instead of cow's milk, lower calories and other benefits I can't remember now 🤦‍♀️ takes a bit of getting used to but good for losing.

You are all superstar mamas! ❤️

I had a few days offline celebrating DH's birthday. We did a family 'fun run' 5k yesterday and had a very, very busy weekend of gardening so I'm hoping the excess calories have been mitigated somewhat 🙏

Today's meals:
L - cup-a-soup, lots of salad veg, low cal jelly
D - bolognese pasta bake, smaller portion with a big side salad (and swerving the garlic bread!)

I keep flip-flopping between feeling quite ok in myself at the moment but also wanting to lose more weight. So I'm not sure I'm making the best decisions. I also went shopping last week, finally spending some birthday money, actually taking most of it back but I decided to keep two pairs of trousers... Took tags off and wore them over the weekend and actually think I should have sized down. Soooooo annoyed with myself!! But I suppose it's better to cinch in with a belt then them be too tight... Right?!

Canteloupez · 24/05/2022 16:32

@Riddlediddle I currently have zero bum (square bum alert!) so not one to talk but in the past it’s been kettlebell plus bridge, kettlebell swings, Bulgarian split squats, weighted squats for bum building. Abs wise I think it’s the usuals but I personally like Pilates to start with. I really need to get on it with the exercise. I’ve had a day off of the food today (although I did ride this morning) so I’m planning to hit it hard in the morning.

Canteloupez · 24/05/2022 16:36

@Riddlediddle annoying about the trousers but I’d just be delighted that they’re loose!

You’re about the same weight as me and I keep doing the same re losing more. Hard to know when to stop sometimes.

Benjispruce4 · 24/05/2022 16:40

B-30g oats made with water, tbsp Greek yoghurt, a few blueberries, tsp chia seeds, tea.
L- salad with cannellini beans and olives, apple, loads of water all day.

D- baked salmon with stirfry veg

Benjispruce4 · 24/05/2022 16:41

And me @Riddlediddle
SW-10st 4
CW -9st 10
TW 9st 6

Benjispruce4 · 24/05/2022 16:43

@Riddlediddle preased too soon. Try a daily plank. I went through a phase of doing a one minute plank a day and got my belly area toned. I’m going to start again. I used to do it in the kitchen when cooking.😁

Puffalicious · 24/05/2022 17:36

whilst your childhood sounds so very hard, Sunshine, I daresay you learned how not to do it, a million times over. Some of the best mums I know are those who had little love in their early years and are so determined to break the cycle... you're doing an awesome job!

I was just about to say the same thing SanFranBear- you know what not to do and how you would have wanted to be cared for. Dust off those Wonder woman boots, SunshineCake, you'll look great in the outfit with this weight loss!

Riddlediddle · 24/05/2022 18:09

Quick update from me - weighted hula hoop is now purchased from Argos and I've just done my first 10mins. I see what you mean about the bruising, I'm feeling quite tender across my tummy and lower back now! Plan to do 10 mins daily so I will keep you updated.

Echobelly · 24/05/2022 18:11

@SanFranBear - ooh, hot milk & cinnamon, may have to try that!

@ImALittlePea - haven't looked at almond milk. We happen to have a spare oat milk lying around and I looked at that but it's not especially low cal.

Actually managed to keep it quite low cal with buying a lunch while at office - Waitrose had a bulgar wheat and prawns salad that was actually only about 200cals. I'm just planning on sea bass for dinner so I may even allow myself some new potatos.

I'm currently going mad with stress as we're supposed to be finally going abroad for the first time in 2.5 years but I was a fucking idiot and didn't check the entry rules properly and now we have a catch 22 that DS could only get his 1st shot 8 weeks ago, so he's not 'fully vaccinated' and we can't get a COVID travel pass (plus they only send them as letters) it looks like they'll only let fully vaccinated people in, but at the same time country in question says no one has to show a negative test and unvaccinated people don't have to quarantine so it's all totally unclear. It's not a popular tourist place so we can't just find someone who's been there recently... we might be able to get away with claiming we're visiting a close relative because my mum is a citizen and we're staying in her house there, which is registered as her permenant residence. I think we'll probably work something out, but it's driving me spare...

Echobelly · 24/05/2022 18:12

*Theres no restrictions if visiting a national who is a close relative

Benjispruce4 · 24/05/2022 18:14

@Echobelly have you tried the government pages? Sorry if you already have . Google ‘Travel to……..’ for latest info.

SunshineCake · 24/05/2022 18:22

Thank you again @SanFranBear and @Puffalicious . Today I received a letter from my mother, that is the fourth letter/card I have had in the last 18 months even though I have made it clear in the past I don't want any contact - through expensive solicitors - and by sending back the last one. Today she has said I am an unforgiving person. She's not changed. Leave me alone! You'd be horrified if you knew the choices she made and what and who she put before me.

grrrrrrr

Echobelly · 24/05/2022 18:31

Yes @Benjispruce4 - looked at everything I can find.

One their app the airline says there are no restrictions. I got hold of an agent on webchat today but she was 'covering their arse' and saying we have to go by the government pages. National pages say for entry they'll 'accept' COVID travel passes, but it also doesn't say what to do if you don't have full vaccination - other countries are offering negative PCR tests as an alternative for those who don't have them, like most 5-11 year olds, but they don't say anything about them at all for this country.

Have checked again and my mum won't count as 'close relative' it's only spouses, parents of young children, or young children seeing a parent.

I just want to speak to someone in an informed position who'll say 'There's no chance in hell'/'A negative PCR would be acceptable'/'We're not bothered about younger kids' or whatever.
