☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Hi @ginsparkles Great that your 10s are comfortable when you expected they wouldn’t be. Could you have built muscle and generally toned up? That would make you more svelte as muscle weighs more than fat per square inch. How long until your holiday?

OP posts:
ginsparkles · 23/05/2022 10:54

@TheRealHousewife I guess maybe going to the gym and riding has changed my shape a bit?

Holiday is next Thursday so time to do a little damage control after the birthday weekend! Haven't tried the dresses on yet, I suspect they may reveal a different story 😂😂

SunshineCake · 23/05/2022 13:34

That's all it was @TheRealHousewife Blush as didn't want to overwhelm with a long message if you didn't feel like chatting.

That is a great win @Gakatsbsk as now you have done it this month it will be easier to do next month.

It is so hard to not obsess over numbers on the size label @ginsparkles . The last time I bought new jumpers from M&S they were a size 10 but when I put one on last week they weren't as they used to be. I know I have put weight on so that is why but really I should have bought a 12 to be more forgiving and wearable but other times that size would be too loose. When I was younger I wore very baggy clothes but actually they just made me look bigger. It is such an emotional thing.

I really wanted to run outside but as it was raining it would have made it almost certain I would slip or fall if I ran where I wanted to so I went on the treadmill and then walked the dog. Carrying on with the cleaning I did the main bathroom and the downstairs loo and just need to do my bathroom now.

DH is poorly in bed so I will be picking up DS2 from school and have just made a huge stir fry - orange and yellow pepper, mushrooms, courgette, garlic paste, broad beans, sweet corn, celery and tomatoes. I also added a tin of shredded crab and will have a lonely mini pork pie on the side after DS left it for me.

No weight off this morning but I am in to week two of no chocolate and still no alcohol so I'll hope for a whoosh.

SunshineCake · 23/05/2022 13:35

Won't be having the pie as passed it's use by!

TheRealHousewife · 23/05/2022 13:50

@ginsparkles Holiday count down it is then! I’m sure the dresses will look awesome! Hope you have a great time!!

@SunshineCake Thats ok, I didn’t want to have missed anything. Well done on swerving the pie 🥧👍

@SunshineCake that's my 5th load running now and then I'm pretty much caught up. Wet laundry piled up (as I said getting stuff dry is the tricky part as I just have the airer)

Until it piles up again no I need to stop letting it! It's just not a chore I enjoy!

Hope you get your whoosh!

Interesting re almonds getting a delivery tomorrow so may add them to the list

2 days of my new method and I haven't been super good but trying to eat like a slim person would (I've still had pizza, chocolate and crisps) and...

2 lbs down!

I've not gone mad I think is the key and I am eating meals/dishes/items that I would eat if cal counting so know they're low cal

Thin crust pizza (and kept the rest of the day sensible and light)

Curly wurly and Jaffa cake bars were the choc

Twiglets and frazzles were the crisps

I think being busy doing laundry and other chores also helped! Partly as distraction, partly as physical activity.

Hoping to head out for a swim today once that laundry cycle is finished

@TheRealHousewife thank you hoping I can keep this up!

@Gakatsbsk well done on managing period without succumbing to carb cravings that's tough!

@ginsparkles weight is only one factor in our size. Body shape and muscle tone also make a difference. I once had an aerobics teacher (yep long time ago!) who (with their permission) had 5 of the class who were the same height (roughly) and weight on scales come out the front and they looked very different sizes depending on how fit/toned they were

Different clothes make a difference too of course. I know now what styles and shapes suit me. Unfortunately current fashions are the total opposite of what flatters me! (Whatever size/weight I am I am always an apple shape!) make me look bloody pregnant!

I suit fitted tailored styles best - wrap dresses and skirts, a line cuts, fitted waist tops/shirts/blouses, slim fit trousers and jeans - certainly not baggy frills and flounces and smocking which is everywhere at the moment!

Dress sizes not being standardised really doesn't help matters! Drives me nuts! Plus with being short trouser lengths are often too long for me. I wish they measured womens clothes like mens in cm or inches be much easier to know if something will likely fit

Benjispruce4 · 23/05/2022 16:14

Fabulous @Graphista i hope your loss spurs you on. It can be quite demotivating at times but then a real high when you get a whoosh.
@ginsparkles its lovely when clothes unexpectedly fit well. I’m trying to aim for the mid point on the NHS BMI calculator. That’s 9st 3 but I’ll be BMI 22 at 9st 6 and that’s fine with me. If I go lower than that I lose my boobs!😳
B-half a small avocado on seedy toast
L- leftover chicken with salad, apple
D- chickpea and spinach curry with brown rice.

Benjispruce4 · 23/05/2022 16:17

Meant to say @ginsparkles my clothes are. Fitting well now at 9st 10 and it’s such a nice feeling. The number on the scales is just a measure of progress and can be helpful when you reach target to keep within a lb or 2. Maybe weigh less often if it stresses you?

SunshineCake · 23/05/2022 17:25

Huge well done on your two pounds loss @Graphista!

buzzofthebumblebee · 23/05/2022 17:47

Happy Monday all! Just catching up on the thread after a very busy weekend.

Great loss @Graphista! Happy birthday to your DD @ginsparkles and I'm in the same boat as you @pennysays - more I exercise (and I'm doing quite a bit) more hungry I am. On my feet all day saturday, and yesterday went for 55km bike ride. Struggled to keep up with DH & DS, especially up the hills, but I did it!

Good to hear your running Sunshine but do pace out the long runs over the week ; ) Everything crossed your DD stays stable.

Here's to a good week everyone.

buzzofthebumblebee · 23/05/2022 17:47

your = you're tut tut me ; )

milkfromthesleepycow · 23/05/2022 17:52

Adding to the well dones for @Graphista

@buzzofthebumblebee 55km?!!! I'm not surprised you were hungry! Excellent work!

SunshineCake · 23/05/2022 18:23

You are quite right @buzzofthebumblebee as I know I will do too much and push myself. I was disappointed I didn't do so well on the treadmill today but better than nothing and I am on top of my fasting now. I often do 19-20 hours if I am busy. I won't be able to run on Thursday so will do tomorrow outside if it is dry and then will have to do Wednesday as it is WOW day. Hmm, not doing so well on the resting front.

Well done on your 55km bike ride <respect>.

Had a chat with DD today. Lots of plans but I don't trust she is stable tbh. She couldn't say she doesn't still want to kill herself Sad.

Busy day doing everything as dh in bed until half three but the house is tidy, everywhere is cleaner and now I am going to sit and watch tv for a bit.

Don't forget your water everyone and I'm logging nine veg at least today.

TheRealHousewife · 23/05/2022 19:39

@Graphista thats fantastic, well done! You’re doing so well! 👏 Yes, you can keep it up, just believe you can!

@Benjispruce4 My boobs is the last place it goes from! I don’t think I’ll ever see a C cup again 😬

@buzzofthebumblebee Well done on your epic bike ride! 55km 😮👏

Well done on getting your veg in @SunshineCake 👍

Enjoy your evening!

SanFranBear · 23/05/2022 20:19

Evening all - feeling very foolish but had wholewheat pasta tonight and couldn't believe the difference in calories from the standard stuff... no going back for me!

Interesting chat about clothes and weight and shape... I'm not seeing a massive change in my size really and I'm still in a lot of the same clothes. To be honest, I think it's more I'm in the right sized clothes now instead of shoehorning myself into smaller sizes but it's a bit deflating. I mean, it can only get better and I know things are sitting better but makes me realise I've got a long way to go.

However - and this is a proper NSV which I need to celebrate somehow - I finally measured my height for the first time since I graduated and I'm actually 5'5, maybe even 5'6 - which is what I always thought until a woman measured me for my graduation gown and told me I was 5'4! The added bonus, other than becoming all willowy overnight obviously, is that I am officially OUT of the obese BMI range and am simply overweight! So happy!!

Great loss for you too, Graphista - here's to your new routine, you sound really positive! Hope you enjoyed your swim!

Well done for your epic cycle, Buzz! That's practically the London to Brighton ride.. hats off to you!

Goulash to hear you and DD are properly talking now, Sunshine, even if it's not all you want to hear. But still so much better than you were and perhaps with so many plans, she'll be too busy to dwell on other things? Hope your DH gets better soon.

Happy birthday, little Gin!

Forgotten I'd stashed the Easter Eggs away from the cats and came across them today... managed to eat the final Twirl finger but still got the entire egg - save that for another day!

SunshineCake · 23/05/2022 20:33

Great news @SanFranBear on your NSV. I used to be five foot 6 but now I'm five foot 4 Sad.

To be fair DD and I do have lots of times where we talk and others where she doesn't tell me much but I have found a way to find out stuff and I have also learnt to not push things with her.

If anyone has some medical news I have posted a thread. Feeling anxious tbh.

Benjispruce4 · 23/05/2022 20:36

@SanFranBear that’s amazing!😆Careful you don’t bang your head in the door frame now you’re all willowy. I’m 5ft 5 too.

buzzofthebumblebee · 23/05/2022 21:35

that is amazing @SanFranBear !! I think I've shrunk too, like @SunshineCake1 though. At my old height of 5'6.5 I would be healthy, but at 5'6 I am still officially overweight!!!

You are right - I'm doing London to Brighton mid June . Which is just under 90 km, so I'll still have a fair bit more training to do. I'm built for stamina not speed it seems, and really struggle with the hills (extra weight doesn't help I'm sure !!). But I'll manage. Hope to beat my time from 5 yrs ago. Signed up primarily to see if DS 17 would take the bait to get off his backside ... thankfully it worked and he's very motivated and training hard ...such a joy / relief to see him actually interested in something. For months and months he didn't leave his room... These teens cause us more angst than the toddler years.

@TheRealHousewife - I have the opposite problem - I've dropped 2 cup sizes and had to invest in load of new bras. Quite expensive

Very excited silent witness is back on ... how sad am I ?!

🤣 well done on getting out that obese range, Sanfran feels great, doesn't it? Originally, 18 months ago, that 'obese' on the BMI jolted me into action. I'm 5' 5.5 (the half is very important- all my friends are taller than me!).

Rubbishy period came today. Really painful like it was as a teenager. Think it's thr start of the dreaded M!!! Work was hard as I was in a lot of pain. Hot water bottle going in with me tomorrow. If the teen boys ask they'll be getting told!😁

But it's true. Us mammies have superpowers we transfer onto the ones we love. I've been lucky to have had super strong women round me to transfer their superpowers. Now you get to do it.💛

Echobelly · 23/05/2022 23:53

I do miss having cereal for breakfast, but it is rather costly, so I was pleased to find yesterday that 2 weetabix come in low. Not my favourite, but had it this morning with fruit and semi-skimmed milk and it gives me another option for mornings.

Clearly this is coming from a place of delirium as I can't sleep but how did I get to be such an awesome mummy when I had no love as a kid and spent my whole childhood from aged two in care?

Canteloupez · 24/05/2022 07:06

wow everyone has been very busy! It sounds like some really positive progress! @ginsparkles when you say ride do you mean horses?

I weighed in a day early (this morning) because I’m off out for lunch with the husband for the second time since 2019!!! so fully intend to eat what ever I fancy and will probably be bloated tomorrow. I’m 3lb down which I’m ecstatic about. I have an event thing in a couple of weeks so will be very happy if I can shift the remaining 4lb by then. I can see me changing my target slightly and wanting to lose another couple of pounds to be honest.

What I really need to fit in is some more exercise which it sounds like you all have been doing a great job with!!!!
