☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Hi all just checking in with you all. Scales seem to be going in a downward direction overall for May so that's good.

Stress levels and sleep has been appalling though...

🌹🌹🌹 to everyone struggling and got luck for the WoW crew.

Echobelly · 24/05/2022 20:15

@Benjispruce4 - sod it, gave it a go!

DH has hit on the fact that if we came through another country (and borders of Hungary, Czech republic or Austria are near, ) we'd be exempt through not arriving via EU and none of those has restrictions. We might try a quick flight swapsie - we're staying at my parents' house, so we don't have to be exact about days or times, and it's only the outward flight we'd need to alter.

Benjispruce4 · 24/05/2022 20:44

Try tweeting Simon Calder the travel expert.

Echobelly · 24/05/2022 22:22

We'll see - I think the most likely thing is we'll rebook 2 outward tickets tomorrow; I've spotted one possible flight myself but my husband was also looking into alternatives while I was at choir practise this evening. Anyway... enough of me derailing this. I'm gonna weigh myself tomorrow for the first time in over a week, will be interested to see where I am.

Canteloupez · 25/05/2022 06:10

@SunshineCake stay strong. It’s funny how we are the ones that end up having therapy when if they’d had it in the first place, we might not have needed it.

milkfromthesleepycow · 25/05/2022 06:26

Good luck with the travel plans echobelly. It'll be worth it to see your mum!

Weighted hula hoop sounds like fun but would agree that regular plank will help a lot. Maybe try that too? @Riddlediddle

WOW was a bit disappointing. Under a lb down from previous. CW 11st 9.

I shouldn't be surprised as I've picked up the weights again so will be retaining water but I was enjoying the steady 2lb a week!!

Marathon not a sprint. Marathon not a sprint

Good luck to other WOWers

SunshineCake · 25/05/2022 07:03

Interesting point @Canteloupez. I need to deal with it today as I am already emotional about something else and need to lessen my stress. It was horrible coming up to bed and seeing the envelopes on the bed when I had forgotten about them.

Not running today. I'm tired and think my body could do with a day off. I will probably walk my dog with dh though once he has taken our youngest to school.

Hoping for a good WOW of course after the ridiculousness of my scales saying I had gained three pounds in a day. Still no chocolate or alcohol.

SunshineCake · 25/05/2022 07:04

Don't be too down hearted @milkfromthesleepycow 2lbs a week would be very hard to keep up more weeks on end. A loss is a loss and you are making fabulous choices and doing so well.

milkfromthesleepycow · 25/05/2022 07:11

Thanks @SunshineCake
Well done on no alcohol /chocolate for you! Definitely a win

Echobelly · 25/05/2022 07:12

Just under 9stone 1 this morning! Shame I'm about to derail it with holiday, but all good. Sadly weather where we're going is looking a bit rubbish, so caves and castles it is rather than hiking and swimming by the looks of things.

ginsparkles · 25/05/2022 07:24

Morning all.

@Echobelly I feel the pain! Have been reading and re reading the rules for travel too and it's all so confusing.

Stats this morning :
-1lb
SW 12.5
CW 11.11
GW 10.7

Very happy to have lost this week given all the cake etc!

Plan today
Greek orzo salad
Baked beans on toast! Simple pleasures 😂

Benjispruce4 · 25/05/2022 07:41

Well done @Echobelly and @ginsparkles
Ive mainatained my weekend whoosh so I’m happy with that.
@SunshineCake 💐

SunshineCake · 25/05/2022 07:44

My scales say I have put almost 4.5 lbs on since Thursday. How?

No chocolate, sugar, alcohol. Lots of veg. Just chicken, no red meat, only two packs of crisps in a week. Lots of running. Starting to worry about my scan in case it is a tumour causing the weight gain. I know I am being an idiot but it has got to me today as I thought I was doing well 5/7 days at least I do the fasting properly and I'm upset as need to write to my uncle re yesterdays horrible letter off my mother. I just needed a boost of a good WOW.

ginsparkles · 25/05/2022 07:48

@SunshineCake sending love. A good week won't pass you by, I see a whoosh in your future.

TheRealHousewife · 25/05/2022 08:32

Good Morning 😊

What a worry @Echobelly sorry, I've no advice but fingers crossed it’s all sorted!

@Riddlediddle welcome back and no apologies necessary 😬Well done on your progress! 👍Hula hooping sounds painful 😣

@ImALittlePea sounds a great weekend! Family 5k, I’m impressed! And gardening too! A Cherry on Top NSV to finish 😮👏

@Benjispruce4 i used to be one for slipping in exercise whilst doing other stuff. I remember when I was in my early 20s and lived in a house with no shower so had a bath every morning. Whilst it was running I’d do crunches and use hand weights for curls and shoulder presses 😬Every bit helped! Now I’m impressed if I manage to brush my teeth with the opposite hand whilst balancing on one leg 😅

@AnyoneElseFeelDone Sorry to read you’re suffering from poor sleep. I find deep rhythmic breathing helps settle me back to sleep and if I wake in the night. At all costs avoid screens as it will stimulate you awake even more. Hope it improves!

WOW - Weight exactly the same as last week, therefore maintained my loss👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Spicy Chicken & Veg Soup. Apple & pecans.
Meal 2 - Seabass, sweet potato, carrots, broccoli & peas. Might do a sauce.
Tea, coffee, water.

@SunshineCake Sorry to read your post. Sheesh you need a break ❤️

Canteloupez · 25/05/2022 08:48

@SunshineCake surely it must be bloat? If it helps, I don’t think a tumour could physically grow that fast so don’t even let your mind go there. It’s probably running muscle/bloat just being mean to you.

ElderflowerTonic · 25/05/2022 09:09

Week 2 of calorie counting and I lost 2lb. SW 10st 12lb and 10st 9lb today. I didn't drink any alcohol in the week and I think that helped. I had soup for lunch a few times and I bought lentil crisps to replace my usual ones.

SNAFU247 · 25/05/2022 09:15

This weeks stats:

-1lb

SW - 10st 2
CW - 9st 12
GW - 9st 1

It is slow but steady over here! I've been sticking to my 1,200cals and trying to run 3-5k x3/week too to add to the deficit. Have 9wks until my holiday and I really wanted to be close to goal by then so I'll need to up my game somehow.

I'm trying to drink more water to help prevent bloating, but I'm not sure what else I can do! I don't do low-carb, I just stick to my cal goal every day and try and do a few runs each week and a few longish walks (I tend to hit my Apple Watch 'Move' goal around 5 or 6 days out of 7). Do you think I need to mix things up somehow? Any tips would be greatly received!

TheRealHousewife · 25/05/2022 09:26

Whatever you’re doing it’s working for you @ElderflowerTonic 👍Well done on not drinking calories (alcohol), I think that’ll help a lot!

@SNAFU247 That is solid steady progress! I don’t ban carbs but do try to be lower carb by watching sugars/starches. I have a decent protein portion at each meal which is satiating and reduces cravings. I notice I’m more svelte the more water I drink. It’s refreshing and keeps things moving 😳 😬

Last week of May and Im on it as I’m determined to finish less than I started 😬 I’m measuring portions & calorie counting, food tasting (whilst cooking) with tip of teaspoon rather than a shovel and upping the water. Trying to get exercise in (my sort) where I can. Every bit helps 👍

Thank you @ginsparkles and @TheRealHousewife l hope next week I get my just reward.

I don't feel bloated @Canteloupez so could you explain more please ?

Echobelly · 25/05/2022 11:47

Thankfully DH finally got hold of consulate this morning and they confirmed rules have actually been scrapped - websites just haven't been updated. That's a day and a half of unnecessary stress caused by that, but very relieved now. Sadly weather is going to be crummy, but ho hum.

Canteloupez · 25/05/2022 13:12

@SunshineCake water retention or alternatively if you exercise significantly, you will trigger inflammation in your muscles which leads to short term weight gain (not fat, not new muscle, just weight gain).

@Echobelly phew! Great news. What a relief for you.

@SNAFU247 @ElderflowerTonic well done on your loss!

SunshineCake · 25/05/2022 13:55

Do you know what I could do about it @Canteloupez so that I can lose some weight ? I don't know if relevant but I have to have repeat blood tests as there is a problem with my kidney function. It is about 2/3 what it should be if I have understood the figures correctly. I only drink water, with lemonade maybe a couple of times a month plus hot chocolate a few times a week.

Canteloupez · 25/05/2022 14:01

@SunshineCake i guess it could be to do with that. If it is just muscle inflammation or water retention it will just suddenly come off though. I can easily go up 4lb if I’m hormonal for instance and then it will suddenly just come off.
