☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Thanks @Puffalicious for your kind words 🙂

@Graphista - I'm on the app Graph & it has been impossible since the update but have just deleted & re-installed so let's see if that helps!

Fri 13th May - 9s 1 & 3/4lb
BMI 21.1
BF 23.1

I'm really pleased with these stats. I've been so careful this week & it has paid off. It's the lowest I've been since the start of this year & one of about 3 low points since early 2019 👏🏻 Going on holiday tonight though so it won't last 😀

The other thing I forgot to mention is that my water levels are up - 54.2% today which is the highest it's been for ages. I'm usually hovering in the 53s & if I get to the lower end of that I know I need to up the fluid. I used to be terrible with hydration - in my teens & twenties I didn't have a mouthful of fluid before 3pm some days - & started getting health issues. I've made a huge effort since then & now I can't imagine not drinking plenty of water.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'll pop in next week & hopefully catch up a bit with others, even though I won't be posting as I won't have scales so thankfully won't know the damage till I get back 😆

Good Morning Everyone 😊

@ginsparkles Thats a long wait for bloods!

@HouseofHolbein Well done on getting back to your previous weight👍👏 That’s a great graph!

@SanFranBear Well done! It’ll soon add up especially with nexts weeks whoosh which I’ve put on Special Order for you 😬🙏🤞

@ImALittlePea Congrats and well done for spinning the smaller than expected loss it into a positive, which it is off course 👍👏

@SunshineCake How exciting to be writing a book 📖. That’s awesome 👏

@8stone13 enjoy your holiday, you’re so busy day to day it’s well deserved🍹❤️

Talking of Dobbies we drove out of town to visit one last weekend. Bought a few bits but was expensive in my view. Had a brunch which was ok.

@Graphista 600 sounds about right for your lunch (without the lattes) if the avocado was small 220 cals, slice sourdough 130, oily dressing assuming 10ml oil 90 cals, poached eggs 140 = 580 cals. Lattes depend on what milk and what quantity. Hope this helps.

Nope that delete/reinstall hasn't helped - everything is still jumbled up from my perspective. Argh!

Thanks @TheRealHousewife 🙂

TheRealHousewife · 13/05/2022 11:04

@8stone13 Hope the weather improves for you. It’s cold and cloudy here today, proper rubbish again.

Graphista · 13/05/2022 11:59

@SunshineCake ok so just a slightly different dinner time then.

Know what you mean about the life story. I'm writing something similar but I'm not sure I'd ever want it published but I think I want dd to have it

@ImALittlePea it gets harder to lose the less you have to lose. You could cut cals/inc activity but as you say maybe you're at the right weight for you? If you're within a healthy weight that would make sense

@SanFranBear I was thinking maybe restaurants could have 2 options a menu with and a menu without cals? Back in the day there used to be menus with and without prices and the woman would be given the one without on the assumption the man would be paying and it was impolite to expect the woman to restrict their choice based on price - sexist twaddle of course but I was thinking something similar would be an idea. Then people who want to see cals can, but those that don't wouldn't have to?

No choc sprinkles or anything

Thank you for that

Went way over yesterday as a result

I was thinking (this was kinda a ww thing) I may work my cals over the week and so if I have days I go over rein it back in on other days, mainly home days as these are easier to control, so I'd have that amount fewer cals on those days - what do you guys think?

So eg I'm working on 1650 cals per day at the moment

So if I go over one day deduct that amount of cals from days I can do things lighter?

@8stone13 hopefully app working for you now the update was/is so annoying - my pms are still messed up!

Echobelly · 13/05/2022 12:41

Keep on truckin' everyone!

This is the first I've really dieted on an ongoing basis so I'm finding I feel a bit awkward about it and worry I'm making other people's lives difficult. I finally expressed this to my husband last night, as also it sometimes feels like he hasn't gathered I am doing this and am serious about it, so I do have to plan what I eat and not have certain stuff! He did assure me he didn't feel I was being awkward and he totally supported what I'm doing.

I think this is about 3 weeks in now and it's slow but steady (1200 cals a day) - I'm not actually finding it too hard and I'm not tempted to have an unplanned indulging. Realising how had 10,000 steps a day would be when WFH - although the step counter on my phone's not too accurate. This morning it showed 1,110 steps before I'd even left the house (uh, nope!) and on Wednesday it barely added any steps at all when I went for a half hour walk!

ginsparkles · 13/05/2022 13:01

@Graphista I think that's not a bad approach. I often do similar when I have had a bad day.

Feeling a little odd today. I had some earrings made with some of my inheritance and they arrived today. There amazing, and I love them. But gosh I feel sad. What I would give to call him.

ImALittlePea · 13/05/2022 13:07

My BMI is at the top end of healthy @Graphista so that's something. And totally agree it gets harder as you have less to lose. I'm 1st 1lb down this year, and would like to lose another 1/2st at least. I don't think I can cut calories much more in the week - I have around 1000-1200, but I just do what I want at weekends. I clearly need to start putting more thought into the weekend now, but as I said upthread, I'm reticent to restrict myself every day because I enjoy the wine, crisps, pizza etc and I don't want to cut them out completely. I definitely need to increase activity though, but I've got such a mental block about what/when/how. I need to work that out.

L - two-egg omelette with mushrooms and cheddar, with a nice dressed rocket and tomato salad. Greek yoghurt and pomegranate after.
D - undecided. Possible pub dinner 😬

I've only had one tea so far today! By now I'm normally on my third! Have had lots of sparkling water though.

SunshineCake · 13/05/2022 13:24

I hear you @ImALittlePea ! So many times I feel I have been doing well and then I get on the scales and I have either lost nothing or gone up. Remember our mantra - a loss is a loss and we are still winning while we are still trying. We haven't given up.

Well done on your loss @SanFranBear . My Dobbies sells fish, garden stuff, toys, cards, has a Sainsbury's in it which is fairly new and I don't like and a clothes concession and then a cafe.

@ginsparkles I am another one who loses the same weight over and over. I can't even think what I would be now if I hadn't got glandular fever and broke my elbow Sad. Flowers for you.

@HouseofHolbein IF is what does it for me I think too.

My NSV for today was DH and I went shopping and I didn't buy a single thing with sugar in it. Well, no chocolate or biscuits or the lovely dessert I saw in M&S. I am sure there is hidden sugar in the strangest things. I ran back in to get a tray of Mediterranean vegetables and when I saw the price I decided I could make my own cheaper and it would be nicer so I ran around and got some veg. I did buy an Eton Mess Baileys but it is a limited run and I won't have any until June at the earliest.

I am in the mood for a tidy day so I have spent two hours doing that and just had some lunch. I am drinking a banana, milk and coconut flake drink I made and later will plant some seeds. Earlier I set off my cress. I need to keep busy as I am getting more stressed as Monday gets closer.

Time for a drink of water and have a good afternoon.

milkfromthesleepycow · 13/05/2022 14:45

Sympathies to all who have been having app troubles. I haven't been able to read this thread since I last posted on it. App crashed as soon as I tried to read it, just this thread the rest were fine! Grrr (emojis also not working!)

Dobbies takes me back! Many happy hours wandering around there with my grandad

Hope everyone's set for a good weekend

Benjispruce4 · 13/05/2022 19:26

Was 0.5lb down this morning. Slowing down now that I’ve dropped the initial 5lb.
Greetings from my dry Friday night. Gel a bit discombobulated actually but in a good way. As someone said a few days ago, weekend drinking stalls weight loss.
B- Poached egg on seedy toast
L- chicken salad, apple, handful of cashew nuts
D- roast chicken with steamed broccoli

Puffalicious · 13/05/2022 21:36

Video to show Friday nights in my house! Small guy and my silly DH🤣 Had a shitty day at work - some times they're just there- but came in to lots of laughs.

DS2 had last exam today! Yes! Means I can stop being bad cop until next school year😅. I even got hugs and a 'Thanks for putting up with me'. Wonders will never cease!

Needed chocolate after the shitty day. Probably gone a bit over but huge shrug to that!

Have a good weekend all.

Puffalicious · 13/05/2022 21:37

It won't post it! Ah well- involves lots of madness and tumbling and cushions flying everywhere! You get the idea!

SunshineCake · 13/05/2022 22:23

Sounds fab @Puffalicious !

My evening was mainly the cat shouting at DH for being there and at me
for moving my hand when he was sat on my lap. He has a very loud voice!

SanFranBear · 13/05/2022 22:56

Wonderful walk this afternoon although have since eaten an awful lot of curry.. but its Friday night so not going to dwell (and it was bloody lovely!)

Here's a little piccy from the top of Old Winchester Hill which I thought was going to kill me!

TheRealHousewife · 14/05/2022 09:00

Good Morning Everyone 😊

@SanFranBear What an absolutely glorious view 😍😍😍😍 Thank you for sharing 🙏

@Echobelly It can be difficult to eat how we need to and still meet everyone’s else dietary needs/wants but it seems your DH is supportive, which is good. Generally we all eat the same main meals here (I’m no gluten so no bread, cakes biscuits etc and I don’t buy GF, so OH has his own) Everything else we mostly have the same, with me having a controlled portion. I don’t have low fat anything, just less. Seems to work. Well done on your progress to date👍👏

@ginsparkles ❤️💐

@ImALittlePea Im the same as I’ve been within half stone of main goal for a long time and can’t restrict cals further or like you say I won’t. I’m happy to maintain but would appreciate a small further loss. I did get down to my lowest In August 2020 but didn’t stay there. I was losing hair quite badly and felt I needed to up my cals. Not losing hair anymore but gained 1/2 stone.

@milkfromthesleepycow Heres hoping the tech issues resolve!

@Benjispruce4 Well done on your loss👍👏. It can take weeks to lose the weekend gain. Saying that it’s about being able to still relax and enjoy time with family and friends without going totally off plan. Like @Graphista reminded us about weekly totals, so you could have a lighter day pre and post weekend to give you some wiggle room.

@Puffalicious sounds a lovely Friday! Congrats to your ds and you for getting through the tough exam period. Sorry I can’t see the vid.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mushroom Omelette. Pear & plain unsweetened yoghurt.
Meal 2 - Spag Bol & GF Pasta.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Oh dear ladies, yesterday disappeared with a bottle of wine chocolate and crisps!

But one day, and I will not let the rot set in!

Todays plan
Prawn cocktail salad, yoghurt and banana
Salmon with potatoes and veggies.

Hopefully being good today will mitigate yesterday

Benjispruce4 · 14/05/2022 10:47

Yes I agree @TheRealHousewife about being able to relax but I will do that when I get to maintenance. I do relax if I have an occasion as in last Saturday night I had a few drinks and next Saturday it’s a family birthday so I’ll have a few glasses. For me , it’s easier to abstain completely until I reach my goal. If I start on crisps I find it harder. Then again I realise I don’t have much to lose so it’s not likely to take long and I appreciate it’s different if it’s a long journey.Luckily I’m not big on puddings or cake/biscuits but savouries are a big temptation. I don’t buy junk in my weekly shop(DH’s digestives aside) and that helps as I’ll only buy say, fancy crisps if we’re having a get together or bbq.I’m lucky in that I love healthy food, I just have to be careful with portions and picking between meals( even if it is hummus and rice cakes) as it all adds up. I’m walking for an hour every night and not eating back exercise calories and I think that’s definitely helping.
Non scale victory this morning- freshly washed jeans, that I haven’t worn for 2 weeks, slid on this morning.. 🤗
We can do this, just got to stay in the zone.

SanFranBear · 14/05/2022 11:05

I think Graphista and RealHousewife have nailed it - everyone should be able to have fun and enjoy life so just being mindful at other times will hopefully lead to success. I'm hoping so, anyway, as that's my plan for today... a lighter day to try and offset the curry - Japanese curry so not quite as cream-laden as my favourite Indian but still, far too much of it.

Going to get out for another, much shorter walk today, to get the digestive juices flowing and then I'm making calzones later. First time of making them myself although do make a lot of pizza and they're basically the same thing, aren't they? It's the one thing from Pizza Express I always order as they do an amazing one!

Hope everyone has a good Saturday - sun shining over here... which reminds me, everything OK with you, Sunshine?

milkfromthesleepycow · 14/05/2022 11:16

Life is definitely to be enjoyed but shifting the focus to the occasional ice cream on the beach as opposed to the wine gums every night on the sofa for me!

Kids are surfing today so I'm going to see how many laps of the beach I can get in in 90 minutes

Feeling very confident (which is unusual!) and have ordered a bikini for summer. May be a total mistake and I'll regret it but I've always wanted to be able to wear one with a wetsuit as it's so much easier!!

milkfromthesleepycow · 14/05/2022 11:16

Where did all my carefully crafted paragraphs go?!

SunshineCake · 14/05/2022 11:54

That is a beautiful view @SanFranBear . We are lucky to live near a beautiful viewpoint as we live on top of a hill. It's not quite like home but still lovely.

Don't fret @ginsparkles As long as you enjoyed the wine etc it doesn't matter. Everyone needs a day where they eat and drink stuff that they couldn't have all the time.

I am feeling good day as I have lost weight. I ran last night then walked 50 mins this morning with the dog then ran 5.64km. I felt good, wondered whether I should weigh or not and decided to risk it. I'm now 11 stone 11.2. I was 12 stone on May 1st. Obviously I have been up and down the last two weeks as you know, it's me 🐢but I am taking the win as I know that anxiety is going to set in the closer Monday comes. I did sleep all night though which was good. I went to sleep happy as might be seeing a friend next week.

In other news, I'm in shorts! Only because it is warm. Not because I am suddenly slim😂

SunshineCake · 14/05/2022 11:54

It is paragraphed for me @milkfromthesleepycow .

SunshineCake · 14/05/2022 11:56

@SanFranBear thank you for asking. As you see ^ I am feeling good. Calzones are lovely and fairly easy to do. I've just had dh make dough so we are going to have pizza tonight.
