☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

That's odd. Maybe it's just me!

SunshineCake · 12/05/2022 11:31

Your mam really does sound awesome @Puffalicious .

I ran 5km on the treadmill and was annoyed I was a second slower than yesterday. Especially so as I was 4 seconds faster in the first km. DH tells me one second is nothing. I pointed out if I had been a second faster it wouldn't have been nothing!

SanFranBear · 12/05/2022 15:04

Aw, your mam sounds amazing, Puffalicious. I lost my mum several years ago now and then my Dad a couple of years later and it left me feeling quite untethered. I only have one DB and am not close to any of the rest of my family - you and your siblings sound like a lovely, close knit family and sounds like you treasure that - and rightly so.

RealHousewife - I will love you forever for including me in the 'young ones' group... I'm mid 40's, definitely peri-menopausal and feeling my age most days so thank you so much!

Hope the ankle improves, Sunshine. It's so hard, isn't it - resting would probably improve it but that means no exercising, which is so beneficial in other ways. Do you have supports for it?

And good result, 8stone13 - perfect starting point for a nice holiday away!

I've got a really busy evening with various meetings but hopefully will get time to make some mini Toad in the Holes for DC (and steal one or two for myself as well!) Weigh Day tomorrow so don't want to fill up on top much stodge but not the day for a salad - round these parts, anyway!

TheRealHousewife · 12/05/2022 15:56

It sounds like you are from a happy nurturing family @Puffalicious . It’s lovely that you had a wonderful relationship with your mum and have so many loving happy memories of your time together ❤️

@SanFranBear You are most welcome? Being nearly 60 peoples 40’s is most definitely young to me 😬😊 Enjoy yourself, becoming older happens far too quickly! Saying that I am young at heart and only today I went out to play in the garden (potting on seedlings and playing ball with my dog). It’s only my skeleton and spinal cord damage that lets me down.

Well done on the run @SunshineCake 👍

Thanks all for the kind comments. She really was a diamond. My family are all sparkly, fabulous people and I thank the Earth for that. I read so many heartbreaking tales on MN I get upset for the posters. Saw my other brother today (day off) and he's such a comedian: he should be on stage, but a funny paramedic is pretty decent too!

Hair cut and colour today- always makes me feel great. I always spend money on my hair: no matter what size you are, you wear it everyday! Similar can be said for shoes and bags- they'll always fit you😅.

I'm doing not bad calories wise. Resisted biscuits at brother's and have discovered Aldi salted caramel popcorn on the way home- 121 calories for quite a large pack and mouth-wateringly delicious!

8stone13 · 12/05/2022 17:12

@Puffalicious What a lovely family you have come from. I don't have that sadly but I'm determined to create it for my own children 🙂

Thanks @SanFranBear I've been super good today too so I can stuff my face with fish & chips next week 😀

Sorry I'm not contributing enough to the thread, I'm just so busy. Hopefully I'll have to time to read next week, although not post - no scales at my holiday home thank goodness 😆

Benjispruce4 · 12/05/2022 17:37

B- 30g oats with water, blueberries and Greek yoghurt (1 tbsp)
L- Half tin tuna with salad, apple
D- Will be chicken sausages with baked sweet potato and veg.

SunshineCake · 12/05/2022 18:03

Getting some supports is a good idea, @SanFranBear so I will look into that.

My parents are still alive but I haven't seen them for decades. I was in care from being tiny. Was horrific and I get so angry when I read how children are still being,et down by social workers who are not doing their job or working with policies and procedures that are pointless. I'll shut up now as I'll just get upset.

Thanks @TheRealHousewife I also went out with the dog for an hour and half this afternoon and that was nice. Food wise I then I've done all right. Soup and home made bread for lunch. Three strips of chocolate for a snack. Pasta with mushroom, sweetcorn and cheese for dinner and a pear for afters. Nothing else to eat now until tomorrow. Hopefully.

AnyoneElseFeelDone · 12/05/2022 19:35

Hi all, just checking in. Keeping an eye on the scales but not much happening.

Very hard not to comfort eat but resolutely sticking to my eating window at least to limit the damage.

Well done to all of you for losses and or NSV!

ImALittlePea · 12/05/2022 19:57

Ahh your mam sounds so special @Puffalicious that's exactly how I want my children to talk about me when they're grown up ❤️

Today has been much better. Calm day with the kids but a bit of a spiky evening with DH. Thankfully he's out at football now and I'm going to do some work for a bit (and try not to open that blasted wine again).

L - same as all week
D - sweet potato chips, veggie burger and peas with a sugar free jelly pot to follow

ginsparkles · 12/05/2022 21:07

Been a busy old day today. Just in from brownies and settling down with DD to get her to read her book for school.

Day ended on 1086, which is well below so am happy with that.

Thanks to you all for keeping me in the zone. My lesson is to keep posting. The more I post, the more I chat to you all, the more motivated and accountable I become. Thanks for being fabulous

Puffalicious · 12/05/2022 21:09

You're right Imalittlepea I hope my DC speak like this of me too.

Sorry to hear you've not had that nurture 8stone13 but you'll reverse that tradition with your own gorgeous children.

Sunshine I'm so, so sorry to hear this. You've bucked the trend and come out of that system strong and emotionally intelligent. What a journey you've had. Absolute respect and care coming from me, my friend. I teach in a hugely deprived, inner-city area, and I could get so, so angry along with you. But that's for another day.

Peace and love.💜

ginsparkles · 12/05/2022 21:10

@SunshineCake ... FlowersFlowers

SunshineCake · 12/05/2022 21:44

Thank you @Puffalicious and @ginsparkles sometimes I wonder how I am still standing. Some people say I am really strong but tbh I do think I am weak as I just took everything but then with my 50 year old head on I think what choice did I have but I will think I should have fought more. I can't see how. See now I am annoying and confusing myself. I did eventually get X to admit they had X me though and they went to prison.

DH has said we will go and out do some fun shopping tomorrow and has agreed we will have days out next week as I am worrying about DD so much. Every time she has gone away for a day or a night she has ended up attempting you know what and / or ended up in hospital as she said last time she wasn't really trying. This time she is going away for four nights.

So scared.

Well done on resisting the wine @ImALittlePea I must admit I am looking forward to June 1st and having a small glass of something.

Graphista · 13/05/2022 00:25

Weighed last night

13 stone 6.75lbs which = .75lbs on from start weight I'm fine with that

Today was a bit more tricky if you guys can help me estimate cals that would be great

B - cereal, skimmed milk and banana -I can work cals out for this

L - 1 large thick slice sourdough toasted, 1 avocado sliced, 2 poached eggs, a little oily dressing (I reckon no more than 30mls), 2 small but v "creamy" lattes & sweetener - at a wee cafe near me. I was thinking around 600 cals for the lunch no idea on lattes

Drinks - 3 pub rums & diet ginger beer, 3 splashes lime cordial

Dinner - quorn mushroom pasta (know cals for this)

Dh forgot my veg. I doubt he'll forget tomorrow.

I love this comment...but I NEED to know more!

I have a confession I have never... been to Dobbies!

Don't forget your water.

Also THIS is why I am peeing to Olympic standard at the moment (ok well it's maybe the rum too )

@ginsparkles I loved those paper dolls! The app is similarly appealing is prob why your dd took over 😂

@Puffalicious sorry for the loss of your wee mammy. She sounds fab

The once a week cake minds me of my mum and my wee grannies who throughout my childhood baked up a storm every Sunday! (A cheap way to fill many bellies).

I got an unplanned haircut today too! Really perked me up

@8stone13 are you on the app or the website ? Mn has been murder since the update! If the app are you on latest version?

My heart and camaraderie goes out to the others on thread who had less than healthy childhoods - same here.

You're so lucky to have a close loving family puff.

@SunshineCake you and I sound sooooo similar! A friend once said I should write a book! I said nobody would believe all that happened to one person!

SunshineCake · 13/05/2022 07:13

Nothing exciting or dramatic @Graphista I just said to dh that we had talked about it and he had said he would do the veg. Last night we didn't want a big meal and I said I was happy with soup again but we needed to feed DS2 as well so dh made wholewheat pasta with mushrooms, sweetcorn and cheese. It was simple but delicious AND I managed no more food! I thought I would struggle but was ok and even resisted DHs offer of a hot chocolate.

I have started writing the book of my life but haven't written for a long time. Maybe I will start again. Need to make time.

Could post some bullet points but don't want to bring the thread down again.

ImALittlePea · 13/05/2022 07:26

Morning! Stepped on the scales this morning and I've lost 4oz. Feels measly, tbh, and now I feel deflated. I let myself envision a chunky 2lb loss - why did I do that?!

Positive spin - I've been hovering a couple of oz above 10 1/2 stone for weeks and I've finally hit the actual half stone weight. So the lowest I've been thus far. I've not got a busy weekend ahead so it certainly won't be as indulgent as last weekend, which will hopefully do the job for next week.

I'm just starting to wonder if this is 'my weight' and whether it's even worth trying to lose more. I'm not prepared to give up everything I enjoy just for my weight, life is still for living. So is this where my balance is? Does anyone else ever feel like that?

SanFranBear · 13/05/2022 07:28

It's my weigh day today and managed to go down half a kilo, so just a pound but it's downwards and I had a little look back at it seems this is the time of the month when things do slow, followed by a bit of a whoosh so fingers crossed for next week.

SW - 104.7kg
CW - 84kg
May GW - 82.5kg

I'm also almost exactly halfway to GW whilst we're halfway through the month so feeling good overall.

I can try and estimate your calories in a mo, if you fancy.. no guarantee of course - especially as you ate out as they rarely stint on the more calorific ingredients. I agree with your much earlier comment around the calories on menu's - totally see why people aren't happy but I find them really helpful.

I not only haven't been to Dobbies - I'd not even heard of it 😳 But if its a coffee and cake shop, I'm all in. I love an afternoon tea!

Off out this afternoon - hoping the sun makes a stronger appearance as its looking a little half-hearted right now. But whatever, really looking forward to it.

SanFranBear · 13/05/2022 07:36

Ok - so have done a rough estimate:

L - 1 large thick slice sourdough toasted (120), 1 avocado sliced (240), 2 poached eggs (140), a little oily dressing (I reckon no more than 30mls) (120 but that's just kne tbsp (15ml) of olive oil), 2 small but v "creamy" lattes & sweetener (240)

So, I think about 620 for the food so you were pretty spot on there and then drinks wise (always the bit which catches me out), around about 240 although that's best guess as not sure what type of milk they used, did they have chocolate sprinkles etc. So about 860 all in? May well be a little less as it was all generic but gives you an idea, I guess!

SanFranBear · 13/05/2022 07:52

Don't be too disheartened, LittlePea - it's still a loss. I think there's definitely something in the 'weight my body naturally sits at' although don't think I've been there for many many years 😃 Maybe try a few maintenance weeks and then have another one where you purposefully try to lose a bit and see how it goes?

HouseofHolbein · 13/05/2022 08:15

Weighed in this morning at 9st 8.8lb so my weekend weight has come off. Just need to work on the rest now 🤣🤣

look at the state of my happy scale graph tho 😱 this is what happens when I ditch Intermittent Fasting 😱

back on it now so I can get rid of the last few stubborn pounds and then work out how to maintain comfortably.

got a run this afternoon with a friend will eat pretty sensibly and start my fast as soon as I have eaten my tea 😊

well done everyone for posting here 😊 it’s such a lovely group 💕

ginsparkles · 13/05/2022 08:23

Morning all.

@SanFranBear well done on the loss!
@ImALittlePea a loss is good! Keep going you can do it.
@HouseofHolbein your graph made me look at my own... it's the same few lbs on and off for ages! I need to break that cycle.

Stepped on the scales this morning and things are looking better. Back under 12st today, so now to move far far away from there!

Todays plan:
Same lunch as yesterday seafood salad with low cal coleslaw and a yogurt
Dinner sausage pasta, one of DD's favourites and I'm focussing heavily on her diet now.

Sorted her blood test.... she has to wait a whole month before I can get her in! How mad is that?!!
