☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Oh dear @ImALittlePea ! Sounds like a rough day. Sending Flowers

SunshineCake · 11/05/2022 19:41

Put toddler in the bath, snuggles and milk then get yourself a nice bubble bath with a chilled drink and some music. You've got this.

ImALittlePea · 11/05/2022 20:04

I've only just sat down 😂 toddler did calm down, eventually. I had a rare pudding (banana and custard) after dinner but the wine is still unopened. So far.....

SunshineCake · 11/05/2022 20:09

Keep it up @ImALittlePea !

Puffalicious · 11/05/2022 20:16

Ending the day on 1237 cals but broken IF again (tea with some dark chocolate as I sit waiting for Cubs pick up - yes, this is my life picking up 3 boys from activities 🙄). But I don't care as DH not well (v rare, but my God does he think he's dying when he's ill?😏) and 2 older DS still studying (DS2's most hated subject is tomorrow's exam and I just can't be doing with his moaning!). Chocolate is a necessity for me right now!

Benjispruce4 · 11/05/2022 20:36

B half a small avoid on toast with sirracha
L beetroot and feta salad, apple
D chicken and med veg skewer with brown rice , plum

Benjispruce4 · 11/05/2022 20:36

Avocado not avoid obviously 🙄

ginsparkles · 11/05/2022 20:39

Hey all, closing out the day on 1254. This is a huge achievement on a day off!

milkfromthesleepycow · 11/05/2022 20:47

@ImALittlePea keep resisting the wine- most would have caved after your day

@Puffalicious little bit of dark chocolate sounds like the best choice- antioxidants and it's hard to eat too much

Frittata and salad for lunch
Chicken stew and veg dinner
C25K week 2 run 2

Counting today as a win

HouseofHolbein · 11/05/2022 21:05

I’ve ended the day on 22k steps 😊 busy morning at work then a run this evening helped 😊

food was way better than yesterday. 22 hour fas Broke it with 2 slices of toast with 2 boiled eggs on followed by a piece of vegan chocolate cake and a chocolate chip shortbread. Tea was basically pudding 🤣🤣 Apple cinnamon swirl with custard. Started my fast after that which I will break late morning tomorrow before work 😊

might go for a very short run in the morning to get me moving… might be nice 😊

ImALittlePea · 11/05/2022 21:32

@Benjispruce4 half an avoid is quite apt for this thread though 😂

I'm pleased to say the wine has stayed unopened. I had a fruit tea instead so currently feeling very virtuous! I'm probably just about ok calorie-wise for the day but DH made my pudding so it wasn't weighed out to input to MFP.

Puffalicious · 11/05/2022 21:41

Had kedgeree tonight. My lot love it and it wasn't too bad calorie wise. The smoked fish and eggs make it protein rich and am I not feeling picky at all. Leftovers for me for tomorrow- yeah!

SanFranBear · 11/05/2022 21:46

Evening... thought I should put your mind at rest, RealHousewife as hadn't checked in since my walk. Turns out my friend is a bit of a fair weather walker so baled on me today but I didn't mind at all and ended up doing a longer walk. Got a bit soggy but the sun did eventually come out so it ended well - with added bonus of a lovely, full rainbow!

A real life meet up sounds lovely - I've only been here a couple of months but you're all so kind, feel like I've known you forever! Logistics are probably a complete headache though as think we're pretty well spread out 😄

Waves to everyone - been a busy thread today!

ImaLittlePea - glad to hear small one finally ran out of steam.. they can be utterly exhausting at that age and then they turn around, smile and all is forgiven!

And hope they get to the bottom of your DDs problems, Gin. My DD gets faint too but seems to be around her period so think it's all puberty related and hope she grows out of it. She has Vitamin D gummies as I've heard they can help.

And of course, hope you're doing ok today, Sunshine, and you've managed to see DD. Sounds like your DH is on board with helping you knuckle down but do take it easy on yourself (and if you need to eat all the chocolate, just do it.. I think we all understand where you're coming from!)

How many DS's do you have, Puffalicious? Sounds like you're seriously outnumbered...

Yay to little pigs - although I somehow linked your call from the doctor to you cleaning out your little men and was wondering if it was a euphemism I'd not heard of before, Gin 😆

8Stone13 - oooh, I'm intrigued as to what you do now... but seeing as it's linked to Bletchley Park, I won't pry (wink, wink!) Your colleague sounds amazing - and to have actually met some of the SOE, what an honour. I would like to come visit again as I'm sure there was loads I missed.

Really odd thing from my walk that I've never seen before though which was a statue of a dog, burrowing into the grave 😮 I'm guessing it was a much lived dog but I found it really distasteful. It wasn't the only one in this cemetery either - honestly, never seen anything like it! Each to their own, I guess!

Keep on, keeping on you wonderful bunch - almost the weekend!

SanFranBear · 11/05/2022 21:49

Much loved dog... stupid typos!* *

I had heard us Premium users had been gifted with an Edit button but I'm buggered if I can find it!

Graphista · 11/05/2022 22:07

Re real life meet up I'm in glasgow I think @Puffalicious also Scotland?

Dd is in England at uni though so I could maybe combine a visit down south with seeing her? Depends on finances and how I'm doing health wise too though

@ginsparkles not sure how old you are but it reminds me a bit of the paper doll magazines we used to get as kids where you could pop out perforated outfits with wee tabs on to dress up the dolls? Anyone else remember them ?

Someone I know has LOADS of Guinea pigs they have the run of the garden in the day! I had gerbils as a kid a couple of times as well as a family we had dogs, birds, fish, stick insects, lizards, spiders...

I'd love to have a pet now but I'm not up to taking care of one really (not just physically my memory is shocking I'd forget to feed em or feed em twice etc!)

@HouseofHolbein my dd doesn't think much of my dress sense either I'm a bit of an old hippy style wise or else 80's styles

Finishing the day slightly over cals again (less than 100 over) IF I can resist the midnight snack monster or at least appease it with stuff I don't count (carrot sticks, maybe a salad)

Managed to find somewhere with calorie counted menu (I get the arguments from elsewhere about this but for me it would make life MUCH easier!)

But on the pricey side - I just want somewhere I can grab a wee salad and a drink while out

@ImALittlePea well done avoiding the wine

Puffalicious · 11/05/2022 22:10

That is the most gorgeous idea for a grave. Really emotional.

I have 3DSSanFranBear- age 17/15/10 and DH (and ExDH!) so I'm seriously outnumbered🤣. My niece says when they all abandon me she'll take me to Dobbie's once a week for tea and cake.🤣🤣🤣

SunshineCake · 11/05/2022 22:17

Well done on avoiding the wine @ImALittlePea I must admit if I hadn't agreed to join in the dry May I might have had some by now but also due to my dental work that has helped me stay strong. Will need to be next week when dd is away Monday to Friday.

Haven't seen dd much today but she went shopping with dd so at least got out of the house.

did have some chocolate but not a huge amount and thankfully dd had eaten two biscuits so there was not one left for me. Dh forgot my veg. I doubt he'll forget tomorrow.

oh @Puffalicious Dobbies! I live ten minutes from one. Haven't been for ages.

I do love Dobbie's Sunshine. One near me is huge and quite posh with a beautiful cafe. My late mam always loved it and we met there often ❤

SunshineCake · 12/05/2022 07:06

Not near me then @Puffalicious That is a shame. Sorry about your mam Flowers.

I am tired as doggy woke us up three times. I am always limping when I first get up too as have pain above my ankle. I am wondering if it is due to running but I am not giving it up. I am torn as I want to run on the treadmill to do a consistent speed run to try and get faster but I also want to run outside as like being outside.

I also need to get my stitches taken out, walk the dog and pick up my car as hopefully it should be fixed today plus dh needs to drop his car off to get a sat nav fitted and pick up the animals medications. Busy busy day.

Hope everyone is okay. Don't forget your water.

ginsparkles · 12/05/2022 07:56

@Graphista ... I do remember those!!! I didn't get a chance to make myself... DD took over and made me 😂😂😂

@Puffalicious @SunshineCake I meet my mum at dobbies for a coffee on my day off ! She gets a free cup of coffee so it's a favourite hang out.

Scales are looking good so far and I have to work all weekend so that will keep me on the straight and narrow.

Working today and then straight to brownies so I have packed
Seafood salad with low fat coleslaw, low fat yogurt
Ham and pickle sandwich on seeded small loaf bread, with chick pea crisps (this has become a small addiction!) and a apple bar.
I have a banana and 2 apples to snack on.

Puffalicious · 12/05/2022 08:07

ginsparkles sounds delicious and healthy. Well done you.

Sunshine mam was the most phenomenal woman you could meet. I'm so lucky to have had her as my wee mammy. We lost her over 7 years ago and I speak to her most days. My 2 wonderful sisters and 2 fabulous brothers are her living memory. Met my lovely brother at Dobbies the other week and how we smiled talking about her.

Many moons ago, before DC when I was definitely too thin, I declined home-made cake (😱 I know!). She took my hand and said ' Darling, life's too short...eat the cake. Once a week soothes the soul.' She was so right.

It's nice to start the day remembering her. It always makes my soul sing.

ginsparkles · 12/05/2022 08:21

@Puffalicious .... your Mam sounds awesome Smile

8stone13 · 12/05/2022 08:24

Don't know if it's just my phone but Mumsnet keeps crashing...have tried half a dozen times to catch up & just re-read the last couple of posts repeatedly 😀

I'll stick this before it vanishes again!

Thurs 12th May - 9s 1 & 3/4lb
BMI 21.1
BF 23.3

Super pleased with those stats. Have really worked hard the last few days - fewer calories, more exercise - & it's paid off. A bit in the bank before we go on holiday tomorrow (I'll be back to square one on Mon 23rd!)

8stone13 · 12/05/2022 08:26

Something odd is going on with posting - I noticed it yesterday on other threads across the board - Mumsnet seems to have got rid of paragraphs & spacing. When someone quotes a previous poster it puts their words straight after the quote instead of underneath. And my spacing is non-existent in my last post on here just now. I'll try & put the next bit further down & see if it posts it all together.

Is this bit separate?! 😀

8stone13 · 12/05/2022 08:26

Nope, it shoved it all together again!
