☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Weds 11th May - 9s 3lb
BMI 21.3
BF 23.7

I was very focused yesterday & it's paid off. I was flipping bored though!

We're away on holiday from Friday & I always put weight on when away, so I'm trying to get some loss in the bank to prepare as it were. Honestly, if I burn 7,000 calories a day & only eat 500 I'll come back having put 5lb on. No idea how it happens 🤷🏼‍♀️

ginsparkles · 11/05/2022 09:01

@Flowers111 I suspect it may be, she's had that before and had to take an iron supplement so it wouldn't surprise me. There's also some diabetes in the family too.

TheRealHousewife · 11/05/2022 09:15

Sending supportive vibes @ginsparkles , hope it goes ok under the difficult circumstances!

@Flowers111 Thats fantastic progress! Reducing waist circumference/belly fat is one of the most important things you can do to improve your current health and reduce your chance of developing debilitating illnesses such as heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes etc. Well done! 👍👏 🏅

@8stone13 Good stats as per! Fingers crossed you have a good few days to bank some calorie space for your hols!

Morning you lovely lot!

1st WOW for me... and tbh I only started on Monday so I wasn't expecting anything so I was very happily surprised to see the scale move a bit.

SW - 10st 1.6
CW- 9st 13.4
TW - 9st 1

Loss of 2.2lbs :-) I expect mostly water weight, and also due to fact I had a big meal out the night before I did my SW so was probably still full and bloated from that... but I'll bloody take it anyway!

That's given me some motivation to keep on going!

Do any of you do HelloFresh? We have been ordering the under-600 range of meals and they are absolutely delicious and seem really big and generous in comparison to what I manage to rustle up usually. Tonight we've got a sundried tomato, roasted asparagus and baby plum tomato risotto (579 cals). I find that I still need a larger evening meal when dieting, so I'm often happy to spare 600cals from my daily budget for a nice dinner. The good thing I'm finding with HelloFresh is that it gives enough ingredients exactly for 2 people, so once I've eaten it I can't go back for seconds! It also stops my dinners from becoming boring as we get different meals each week (but always know its under 600cal)

Echobelly · 11/05/2022 09:54

@TheRealHousewife - I tend to stream asparagus for 4 minutes and it always comes out well that way. Can be nice grilled as well, I think that's more like about 10 mins.

ShopoholicIn · 11/05/2022 10:05

Hello all,
Good to know positive results... my week 1 results below
SW 83.1kg
CW: 81.8

CrimsonAlligator · 11/05/2022 10:12

Morning all! No weigh in from me this week, as I’m currently on holiday eating way too much. I’m seriously considering just tracking calories for the rest of the week to keep some kind of handle on what’s disappearing down my gullet 😂

Well done everyone who’s had a loss this week! There’s been so many posts since I last checked this thread that I don’t think I’ll even try to catch up with it all. I did however notice that @Graphista is back on the thread! Welcome back! 🥳

(and just in case you have no idea who I am, I name changed. I used to be crazzzycat 🐈)

ImALittlePea · 11/05/2022 11:21

Some amazing WOW results today everyone! Well done!

@SunshineCake I can totally relate. When my 7yo was a baby he was gravely unwell; we spent his first year of life in and out of hospital, there were some very long admissions, and he needed major operations to save his life. Everyone always commented on how well we were doing or how strong we were. But of course, we were just getting through each day however we could, minute by minute some times, we had no choice so didn't ever perceive it as strength. Hopefully, in the days, weeks and months to come, things will improve for you, with your DD and your own health, and you will look back and recognise that the very fact you are keeping going, even when it feels the hardest thing to do, is a sign of sheer resilience and strength ❤️

SunshineCake · 11/05/2022 12:11

You have a very busy day planned @ginsparkles. I hope it goes well and you will avoid the chocolate hug. Get yourself something really nutritious and delicious for your dinner. Rewards yourself with good quality food. Thank you for your kind message too. Currently trying not to fret as haven't heard or seen DD yet today.

Well done @Flowers111 Star. That is an excellent reduction. I found that the scales said no for a loss but my tape measure said yes so it is good to have both. Car was serious unfortunately. They need to keep it until tomorrow and it is over £700.

Staying the same is still a win @ElderflowerTonic .

What a fabulous start @SNAFU247 . Well done! I would like to try Hello Fresh but I have a new plan at the moment. It sounds lovely.

Well some @ShopoholicIn , good loss.

@CrimsonAlligator hope you are having a lovely holiday. Plenty of time to catch up with all the posts!Grin.

A big thank you @ImALittlePea I am so sorry you went through that with your son. It must have been utterly terrifying. I have had an occasion with each of my children where I thought they were going to die - DS1 - bad fall, suspected fractured skull. DD and DS2 with illnesses and we have no choice but to keep breathing. DH said today he thinks this will be years before DD can get better. I'm not sure how I can get through years of it but I also know I have no choice.

DH and I walked the dog and we talked about my weight, fasting, running, food, etc. He doesn't understand as wasn't starved as a kid and just eats what he wants and has always been slim and can lose weight. He thinks I am daft to decide to just eat all the chocolate (2 bars and four biscuits) so it is gone as I will then have to burn it off. I'll do what I want though. I have decided to eat a bigger lunch and smaller tea as that is what I prefer and works for me but he thinks I should eat three meals a day and nothing else. I have told him that when he cooks dinner I get upset when there is only two vegetables, sometimes just ones and said I want to have about five so he's agreed he will do that.

After walking the dog I decided I wanted to run outside but didn't want to go out so went on the treadmill. I ran 5km in 35 mins 16 and then I weighed myself and was down on this morning Confused. Up about half a pound on last week but I am happy with the new weight.

OMG, you lot are all SO amazing. I'm so glad to be part of this thread with such a lovely group of supportive, caring, brave, interesting women. Wish we could all meet up IRL for a cuppa and a natter - wouldn't that be wonderful?!

@ginsparkles - your WW2 trip sounds amazing. I imagine you in an outfit (fitting perfectly as you will be restrained for the next 3.5 weeks!!) looking so glamorous as you honour all the WW2 personnel. I'll book a trip to Bletchley Park very soon!

Your comment about SanFran out walking alone with earbuds in listening to crime drama made me laugh TheReal !!

WOW wasn't so wow. 1/2 up from last week. But given I had cocktails and cake - rather than carrot soup - for dinner last night, that's not so bad!

Your words to Sunshine ImaLittlePea were just lovely.

Welcome back Graphista and good to see you again Crazzy/Crimson

ImALittlePea · 11/05/2022 12:33

I went into autopilot and mostly just felt numb to the fear for a long, long time. I had breakdowns, terrified moments, but I forced myself to focus on what I could do that was practical. He was so little when he had his first surgery (barely 2mo). I remember when we finally got home, he was coming up to a year old, and I started to look back, and was totally floored by what he/we had survived.

It feels like a lifetime again now, thank goodness and touching wood we don't end up even close to being back there again.

Meal plan for today:
L: same again - cup-a-soup, 1/2 a pepper, big chunk of cucumber, I've got some cherry toms now so also had a handful of those. Greek yoghurt with pomegranate.
D: baked potato, beans and cheese - and a side salad if my lettuce is crisp enough.

Wizzwazzwas · 11/05/2022 14:32

Afternoon lovelies

So great to see the support going on in this thread, and well done to those of you with happy weigh ins. Hugs and support to anyone who needs it and is feeling like a tortoise Iike I was last week.

Good news for me, I've lost another 0.5kg since Sun, so that's 1kg loss this week overall.

SW: 91.5kg
CW: 82.4kg

Still a very long way to go, but really happy with that progress.

Meals so far today: Greek yogurt, handful of oats and some strawberries for breakfast, and chicken and veg soup with ryvita and lovely cheese for lunch. Dinner to be decided!

TheRealHousewife · 11/05/2022 14:36

Afternoon All

Raining and chilly here 🥶 I hope it’s better wherever you are!

@Echobelly thank you, I’m going to give asparagus another go!

@SNAFU247 @ShopoholicIn well done on your loss’s 👍👏 Apologies if I’ve missed anyone. Well done to those who are carrying on even when the scales haven’t budged!

@buzzofthebumblebee 😅 I am very risk averse though! I do worry about you lot at times!

@CrimsonAlligator Enjoy your holidays 👍

Going to put waterproofs on as I need to potter in the garden 💦 🪴

Ended yesterday a wee bit over cal count but that's fine it was a good start, drank plenty of water too

Out and about just now so will weigh when I get home - This is the challenge eating healthily when out!

Varifocals - I can get the close up part it's the distance I'm struggling with, may pop into opticians and ask about this

Thank you @TheRealHousewife for liking my long waffly posts!

@ImALittlePea that sucks! Hopefully karma does bite them on the arse!

@ginsparkles I'd need 20+ year old photos to look at! Need to be more realistic for now for me so I find that app useful - and kinda fun. Sunny but sunny windy and cool here (it is Scotland!)

Hopefully you find out what's up with dd and it's not too serious and easily remedied

@Puffalicious thanks for the welcome back very happy to hopefully rejoin 🐢 club

@Echobelly sweet and salty popcorn a favourite of mine too

@12weekstoloseweight well done! Great start

@milkfromthesleepycow well done to you too! Lovely feeling isn't it?

@SunshineCake I think you're right to try and not worry till you have a reason. I hope you don't have a reason

They need to work with dd to GET her to engage! Drives me nuts - I've had so many hcps label me as "unwilling to engage" when the truth is that they're not listening to ME and how I need to manage my Mh with their support - eg if one more says cbt is the golden ticket to curing ocd I may scream!

There is an option to not keep going - and you're choosing that for you and your family every single day! That IS strength!

@Flowers111 you've reminded me I've not measured for AGES will do so once home setting reminder on phone now to weigh and measure

@ElderflowerTonic a sts is still a win - it's not a gain so well done

@8stone13 I've a visit to Bletchley park as a possible thing to do to celebrate 50th birthday if I can manage it this year.

@SNAFU247 well done that's a great start

@CrimsonAlligator thank you for the welcome back

I'm gradually getting my head around the name changes

*Wish we could all meet up IRL for a cuppa and a natter - wouldn't that be wonderful?!

Graphista · 11/05/2022 15:26

Keep posting too soon!

That would be fun to meet up at some time

About to get off train so more later

TheRealHousewife · 11/05/2022 15:52

Hi @Graphista & @buzzofthebumblebee and including everyone else too, a rl meet up would be great! We need to identify who would be up for it then locate somewhere central to everyone 🌎 How lovely to put faces to personas 😊

CottonSock · 11/05/2022 16:40

I'm 1.25lbs down this week which I'm pleased with as ate out a few times. Tried to make healthy choices and even left some nachos as I knew it was double what I needed.
Away with work now so more temptation and cooked breakfast. Argh

ginsparkles · 11/05/2022 17:43

I would so love to put faces to names!

@Graphista have downloaded the app... any extra motivation is all good with me so here we go!

So far so good. Busy morning doing birthday shopping. Grabbed some sushi, chick pea snacks and fruit at lunch instead of the usual sandwich crisps and chocolate! Had my hair done and collected DD. Had a bourbon (well two actually!) and was just starting to feel snacky when the doctor rang and distracted me ! Then cleaned out the little men, so now I can wait through until dinner time!

Doctor wants to run bloods on DD. Checking for everything but most likely low seratin levels again.

Here are my boys just for added awww factor!

Lovely guinea piggies! 🥰

Ooh an IRL meet up would be great!

Today has massively fallen by the wayside 😭 I started to feel faint on the school run so had to snaffle some of 7yo's snack (a very healthy combo of crisps and choccy biccy - just a couple of bites from each though). Picked 18mo up and she screamed non stop for an hour, one of those ones where nothing will comfort them 💔 so just put some wine in the fridge to chill. I may not open it, but the need/temptation is so strong 😬
