☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

3 days in a row of gain, which is annoying. But a realisation yesterday - I've been much less 'windy' in the last week. Have suspected I'm gluten intolerant for a while and have ended up having much less bread and pasta than usual in last week so this seems to be the outcome.

Flowers111 · 08/05/2022 10:39

@wizzwazz I do that for sure - I can pinpoint my weight gain to a very unhappy work situation - it started straight away. Then Covid of course added a lot more.
Anyway back on track with exercise and healthy eating although had Indian takeaway last night oh well - boiled rice and veggie - only ate half as always. Lovely treat.

Flowers111 · 08/05/2022 10:41

@milkfromthesleepycow well done on 1000 days AF. I got up about 700+ before, then tried moderation. I'd prefer to be AF actually. Aiming for 30 days anyway.

Thejugglestruggle · 08/05/2022 10:58

Hey 👋🏼
Can I join you? I've been losing weight since the beginning of the year. 2 babies plus a pandemic (and a total addiction to junk food!) had me at my highest weight ever on January 1st.
Here are my stats currently -
SW - 17st 11lbs
CW - 14st 0lbs
TW - 11st 5lbs (healthy BMI for my height)

I'm tall so another stone or so and I will start to feel a bit more like "me" again.
But oh my goodness, my will power this past week has been tested. I don't know if it's just because I had so much to lose at the start of the year and now I'm losing a bit of steam but - despite losing a pound this week - I feel really demotivated. I am desperate to get another 10-14 lbs gone before end of June so I can get my shorts and t-shirts on and feel ok!
But as ever going to try and focus on a smaller target first. 3 more pounds will be my 4 stone weight loss...when I get there, that will feel a big moment.

Flowers111 · 08/05/2022 11:18

@echobelly have you tried gluten free pasta (it's fairly horrible from memory) 🤣maybe quinoa would be nice

buzzofthebumblebee · 08/05/2022 11:26

welcome @Thejugglestruggle @Greentomatoes21 & @12weekstoloseweight & other new joiners to the thread. I can feel all the positive weight-loss energy from you which is very welcome to all of us! (And especially those of us who have stalled ...!)

I have let the side down @Flowers111 and succumbed to alcohol friday and saturday eves, but I did say my intention was to be damp, not wet. That's it for me now until thursday when I have night out with girlfriends.

Food - OK - but could do better. No gain, but no loss. I'm not stressing about it though. My focus is slightly elsewhere atm, so no gain is an achievement.

So disheartened for you and your DD@SunshineCake1 Not again? You poor love. And your poor DH just sat there in the car utterly heartbroken. There seem to be no comforting words for you.

Benjispruce4 · 08/05/2022 11:30

Sorry to hear your news @SunshineCake and hope your DD is ok.
Yesterday: B - granary toast with 1/3 tin beans.
Meal 2 was cous cous and tuna mixed with salad veg.
Had this meal early as we went to a gig. Involved a train journey and loads of steps. Had a few drinks and feel dreadful this morning so that will help me continue to attempt the rest of May, dry.
Felt very hungry this morning so had a large crumpet with a dry fried egg and ketchup. Still only 300 cals. It was lush.
Like the sound of blood orange syrup with tonic.
Re exercise, I find that lots of walking and a few weights doesn’t give me the same hunger pangs as more vigorous exercise. Remember that weight loss is mainly about diet.

8stone13 · 08/05/2022 13:05

@SunshineCake Flowers

Sun 8th May - 9s 3 & 1/4lb
BMI 21.3
BF 23.6

1/4lb loss & my other stats are down which isn't bad given I ate all but two slices of a Terrys Chocolate Orange yesterday as my weekend treat 😀

Eesha · 08/05/2022 13:10

Sorry I haven't posted much, nothing lost this week.

SW 94.8 26th March
CW 92.5 8th May today

It's so unbelievably slow and depressing. I got chatting to a couple of people yesterday who had lost 5 stone over 3 years via Herbalife and I genuinely feel like this may be my only option. I would like to lose 10kg at least. I'm 5ft 6

milkfromthesleepycow · 08/05/2022 13:19

@Eesha 5st over 3 years is 2lb a month. You're losing 1-2 lb a week at the moment and in a healthy sustainable way. I'd keep doing what you're doing

SunshineCake1 · 08/05/2022 13:25

Just a quick note. Thank you all.

DH hasn't seen DD yet. He's sat outside the hospital still. She doesn't want help.

well done @Puffalicious a loss is a loss. Better than me today ! I did run though as my brain was fried. Running on 2 hours sleep went surprisingly well.

yep, @buzzofthebumblebee though she texted dh not really when he asked if she attempted to take her life

I am in agony

Eesha · 08/05/2022 13:56

@milkfromthesleepycow thank you. It just feels so slow for me whereas others are seeing quick results

buzzofthebumblebee · 08/05/2022 14:39

I'm no expert @Eesha but totally agree with milk that slow and steady will get there, be better for your body, stay off longer (forever?) and give you a more healthy relationship with food.

Dieting is effort and mindset. Value yourself and your body enough to treat it kindly with 1400 (or so) calories a day on healthy proteins, loads of veg, reduced carbs, minimal snacks especially sugary / fatty ones, and you will get there very steadily, and be so rewarded with confidence and significant weight loss.

Comparison with friends and a bit of competition can be motivating (detrimental too), but ultimately your relationship with food is down to you, so give yourself a good positive pep talk, and dig deep. It is very hard to change habits. But if you want to loose the 10kg then effort is what is needed. You CAN do this !! Meal by meal, one day at a time. We all know how hard this is. There is no magic solution, and it is very tough - but there is always someone on this wonderful thread to keep you away from the biscuit tin if you feel tempted.

We all know exactly how tough it is. But you CAN do it. Cheesy to say, but if I can, anyone can. I was in self destruct mode last year, and have since lost 10+kg. Admittedly most of it was in 4 months and I am still working hard (but not hard enough !!) to loose the last 3kg - but I feel SO much better. I am 5'6 too. 50+.

Sorry for the essay - I don't mean to preach - but I'm having a positive day, mentally and food-wise, so want to share!

B - blueberries, natural yoghurt + mixed seeds
L - roasted butternut squash, lentil, rocket, spinach, lentil & feta salad. DELICIOUS
D - roasted vegetables with mexican grains from pouch, some chorizo + baked cod

@SunshineCake1 <hugs>

AnyoneElseFeelDone · 08/05/2022 17:10

Oh no @SunshineCake she needs to be sectioned for her own safety surely. I feel so sorry for you all.

I was thin late teen/early 20s and it all went wrong with emotional eating here too! The last (winter Covid lockdown) saw me regain 5 of the 10kg I lost in 2019. Really need to get rid of it permanently!

What are you doing currently@Eesha ? I find IF really easy to curb eating and no calory counting required but you can do Fast 800 if you want to speed things along and or have lots to loose.

SunshineCake · 08/05/2022 17:24

👏👏@buzzofthebumblebee .

She was sectioned so she could be taken to hospital but she is now home @AnyoneElseFeelDone .

HouseofHolbein · 08/05/2022 17:48

10k race to his morning 😊 I’ve been in the pub since and I’m a bit pissed 🤣🤣 fantastic being out with friends tho!

sorry things are still shit @SunshineCake 💕 love to you 💕

SunshineCake · 08/05/2022 18:02

She wasn't trying to end her life but it is always there that she will try again.

SunshineCake · 08/05/2022 18:21

Thank you @HouseofHolbein happy to hear you've had a good day 🤣

HouseofHolbein · 08/05/2022 18:24

And no idea why those are upside down 🤣🤣🤣

Benjispruce4 · 08/05/2022 18:41

It’s cos your pissed lol 😂
B- dry fried egg on toast
L- chickpea salad
D - BBQ chicken breast(no skin) small amount of salmon fillet, pitta pocket and loads of salad and homemade low fat coleslaw.
Am stuffed as I’ve eaten more today as a bit hungover but importantly I haven’t had a ‘drink’ today and right now the thought is making me queezy.

Flowers111 · 08/05/2022 18:44

@HouseofHolbein well done !

I'm about to go out and restart 0-5km app once again 😄just waiting for phone to charge !

Didn't track calories very well last few days & overate slightly due to being AF and compensating. Was up a 1lb this morning. 😭

AnyoneElseFeelDone · 08/05/2022 19:28

Oh I'm glad she hasn't tried again @SunshineCake but I think I probably meant for a longer period of time so she can recover or at least engage. So difficult when she's classed as an adult. Bug hugs to you all.

Well done on the run @HouseofHolbein

Good luck for the week ahead all!

SunshineCake1 · 08/05/2022 19:33

I have talked to her tonight @AnyoneElseFeelDone and as previous MH staff have let her down she's not willing to trust anyone else. She doesn't want to have to talk and say all the stuff again Sad.

How and I ever going to breathe again? Is that selfish ?

Well, you're doing better than me if you can work that out - 3/4lb overnight gain despite eating less, waking hungry, feeling slim etc. Tried clothes on that I couldn't comfortably get into a week or two ago & they fit. It has gone warmer again & as I've said before that does massively impact my weight. I don't think I can blame it all on the weekend chocolate 😀

Oh well, I shall keep on keeping on...
