☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@Benjispruce4 well done 👏👏👏

Benjispruce4 · 07/05/2022 09:14

Thanks @Flowers111 I think eating every 5/6 hours suits me as I’m never too hungry. I work in school so can’t eat until lunch anyway so that helps. I’m genuinely satisfied after each meal and also, I’m no longer constipated 😉which accounts for a lb or two, I’m sure!

12weekstoloseweight · 07/05/2022 10:16

Hello can I join please?

I am going on holiday at the end of July and would like to lose at least a stone if not more.

I have been exercising regularly for about four weeks now but still struggling with diet and I know that’s what gets the weight off.

Planning to calorie count and cut out pretty much all ‘treats’ because I’m physically unable to just have one/two of something. This worked well for me earlier in the year so might as well give it a go again and hopefully coupled with the exercise I’ll get the losses I want.

Organisation is a huge issue for me when it comes to losing weight. Not so much meals but snacks!

Good luck all :)

Hello Everyone

A warm welcome to thread @12weekstoloseweight @Riddlediddle

@Riddlediddle I used to have massive pre-menstrel gain but it whooshed away after a day or two.

loving the recipe you shared @ImALittlePea 👍. Thank you for sharing.

@Echobelly great result with your trousers. It’s lovely when clothes get looser!

@SunshineCake ❤️

We are away a few days so might not get to post. Wishing everyone a great weekend ☀️

Sunshinecake I'm sending all positive vibes through my phone. Truly, thinking of you.💐

8stone13 · 07/05/2022 12:12

@Riddlediddle Yes I always gain weight before my period. I'm pretty sure I'm peri now - periods have gone wonky since late last year & apparently at coming up 47 I'm the exact age for it - but I definitely gain water weight when due on.

Sat 7th May - 9s 3 & 1/2lb
BMI 21.4
BF 23.9

Those are good stats as I expected to be 1lb+ up this morning after eating out yesterday - sane restaurant, same meal & it always happens. So staying the same weight today is actually a loss (if you follow my mental gymnastics 😀)

I'm allowed chocolate tonight - have got a Terrys Chocolate Orange grinning at me 😀 🍫

SunshineCake · 07/05/2022 13:16

Thank you for your kind wishes @Benjispruce4 and well done on your loss!

Welcome @12weekstoloseweight having a target occasion can really help with motivation.

Thank you @TheRealHousewife Flowers

@Puffalicious thank you by bud Star. I have to admit to a little wobble earlier. I looked up what my blood tests mean in relation to my kidney and it was scary. Surely I can't be so unlucky I have two serious things wrong with me ??

I walked the dog with DH this morning after 3.5km on the treadmill and made a pasta dish and a banana tart for lunch. The pasta was one of Jamie Oliver's recipe and while it was edible it was not a combination that worked in our opinion. The pudding was nice though.

Still on edge waiting for DD to come home and still have about 10 hours to wait.

Have a good afternoon everyone.

Wizzwazzwas · 07/05/2022 14:35

Happy Saturday everyone!

No loss for me so far in May. I weigh on a wed and a sun, and my last two weights were static. No idea what's going on as I'm mid cycle, so water retention still to come.

However, I feel like I'm starting to change shape a little and look different. And I bought some new dresses which would never have fitted before I started nearly ten weeks ago, and I'm back in an old pair of jeans and had to retire a newer pair. So all good I guess.

I've been aiming for 1200 calls per day, but eating my exercise cals. For the last two days I've not eaten my exercise cals. I don't know that I can keep that up though, as it's making me feel v deprived. I use a garmin, and do delete steps or adjust them if they look ridiculous, which sometimes they do.

Today I completed run 1 of couch to 5k week 5, even though I didn't want to! Have also dog for an hour's walk.

Breakfast: kefir
Lunch: baked salmon with (small amounts each of) Savoy cabbage, roast squash and sweet potato in garlic, braised fennel, broccoli, roast parsnip and carrot, sauerkraut. Followed by mixed berries and a square of 90% dark choc.

Definitely a tortoise here!

SW: 91.5kg
CW: 83.4kg

AnyoneElseFeelDone · 07/05/2022 17:13

Hi all.

Oh no @SunshineCake I hope it's not as serious as Dr Google suggest. Hope DD returns on time and in one piece.

That sounds healthy and delicious @Wizzwazzwas

Scales say I'm 1.1kg down from starting so about 2lbs. Will take it as a win and try to build up momentum.

Whoever asked about bloating etc definitely! Although my body hates me so sometime cycles really short and others up to 2 months...so...🙄

Have a good weekend!

SanFranBear · 07/05/2022 17:23

I'd steer clear of Dr Google, Sunshine.. always the worst case scenario and hopefully nothing like what is actually going on. Hugs as always!

Bought a new tent about a month ago and we're away in it for the Jubilee weekend so thought should give it a practice run. It is fabulous - one of those airbeam tents, in place of poles, and so so easy! Weighs a bloody ton but so pleased with it - roll on the summer!

DD at a sleepover tonight so DS and I will have KFC (DD not a fan so only have it when she's not here). The rice boxes are surprisingly low calorie so am looking forward to it already as have almost completely cut out takeaways. Then think we'll be watching the Mandalorian as DS has his Star Wars hat on today - should be fun.

Changing shape is almost what it's all about, WizzWaz, for me anyway. Obviously, scales going down is fab but it's also about how I look. So I'd take that as a NSV myself! And I expect you'll have a sudden whoosh downwards. I know RealHousewife posted a great video (last month maybe) about things like the dreaded plateau, so might be worth a watch?

I like your thinking, 8stone13, sounds like a loss to me! And yay for chocolate oranges - best bit of a Xmas stocking, imo!

Greentomatoes21 · 07/05/2022 17:34

Hey, I know I'm late but I didn't know the thread existed! I've been trying to lose in May. I am calorie counting as that's what works best for me! I was 11 st 7 about ten days and have lost 2lb 🤗 (I'm only 5ft 1")

Current weight: 11 st 5

So glad to have some people to discuss things with. Have read the whole thread and feel motivated!

SunshineCake · 07/05/2022 17:53

I have decided not to google anymore @SanFranBear as it is rarely right and even if it is I can't do anything about it yet.

Welcome to all the newbies Smile and I would just like to say I am not always such a bringer downer of the thread BlushSad.

Puffalicious · 07/05/2022 20:24

Hey all,

Had a very light day today to save my calories for battered fish for dinner. Was delish- lots of peas and tomatoes and just a couple of chips. Topped off with tea and a small bar of dark chocolate with Sea-salt (Moser-Roth from Aldi 130 cals and a real treat). It really felt like Saturday!

Echobelly · 07/05/2022 20:27

Treated myself to a lovely muffin today but I am a bit 🤔as to whether the calories they claimed for it were really what they said! Ho hum , did a lot of walking today and made a lovely salad with some leftover chicken breast for dinner. Hurray for the George Foreman grill that we got free when my parents accidentally got sent two and couldn't be bothered to send the spare back. We use it all the time.

Flowers111 · 07/05/2022 23:15

@Greentomatoes21 I wish I was 11st 5 !
Starting to feel like I look better - 2 weeks in and about 4/5 real lbs down. Dry less than a week but it'll help.
Did the Dry Mays still manage to stay off ?

SunshineCake · 07/05/2022 23:26

That's a great result @Flowers111 Well done. I am still off alcohol. Not that big an achievement though as I drink rarely.

SunshineCake · 08/05/2022 05:05

DD didn't come home last night. She is in hospital. DH drove the two hours to see her but hadn't yet. He is sat outside the hospital.

milkfromthesleepycow · 08/05/2022 06:19

@SunshineCake sending you and hand holds. I hope your DD is ok

HouseofHolbein · 08/05/2022 06:30

Oh @SunshineCake 💕 lots of love to you all 💕

Wizzwazzwas · 08/05/2022 07:53

Sending hugs @SunshineCake

Progress for me at last! 0.5kg loss. 10 full weeks of healthy eating and more exercise and I have lost 8.6kg. Long way to go, but I'll definitely take that.

SW: 91.5kg
CW: 82.9kg

Does anyone else constantly compare their weight to previous points in time where they've been lighter or lost weight? I'm not sure it's healthy but weight tracking makes it so easy. It also saddens me that when I look at a graph back to 2015 I can plot life events and stresses onto it exactly correlating with my periods of gaining weight. It tracks v clearly and there have been some bug stresses. No idea how I insulate myself against this in future.

milkfromthesleepycow · 08/05/2022 08:02

@Wizzwazzwas I also compare my weight to previous points in time (a lot). It probably isn't healthy! But I'm approaching my lightest post children weight which I find oddly encouraging. We should probably try and stop!

@Flowers111 I'm also dry this may but it feels like a slight 'cheat' as I'll be 1000 days sober in the middle of June! Recommend a small shot of blood orange syrup (2-3ml) and diet tonic water. Tastes lovely and has been my go to for the last 6months. It's the one sugary thing I will not sacrifice!

Greentomatoes21 · 08/05/2022 08:26

@flowers111 but I'm only 5ft 1 and it all seems to sit round my tummy. BMI etc not good with those stats!

We were out for dinner last night before going to a gig. Only place we could get without a long wait was similar to Five Guys! Agh! Scared to weigh today so might just have a light day and weigh tomorrow.

SingaporeSlinky · 08/05/2022 08:33

@Wizzwazzwas that’s interesting that you can trace weight gain to periods of stress so clearly. My only advice would be to try and think about if (presumably) comfort eating at those times actually helped, or if it made you feel, for example, bloated/sluggish etc. And then try and think about that, plus the disappointment of the actual weight gain at the time. If a period of stress was made worse by those physical feelings, and the mental disappointment, then that might make it easier to avoid next time?
Much easier said than done, of course.

Puffalicious · 08/05/2022 09:09

So to hear of more stress Sunshinecake. Just try and breathe through it, that's all you can do.

Weight in day for me. Usual 🐢 1lb loss. Most folk lose loads their first few weeks, and there's me with 1lb in my first two! But 1lb is 1lb. I'm just really angry at myself for the 12lb gain as it looks iike it'll take me 12 weeks minimum to lose it again 😫.

But I'm staying focused.

Off to 'Girls' Day Out' today. It's a huge event with stalls/ talks/ shows for all things girly. NOT my cup of tea, but we got free tickets and I'll be with my gang. Hoping there's healthy choices for food.

Have a good Sunday, all.

SanFranBear · 08/05/2022 09:53

I hope your DH has managed to see your DD, Sunshine. So worrying for you but perhaps this will force them to give her the help that she needs?

Went slightly over plan yesterday (damn you chocolate orange popcorn!) but I'm still dry, so there is that. Off for a small wall this morning but no major plans even though its a gorgeous day. Probably washing...?

Good results, WizzWazz and Puffalicious - it may be slow but it's the right direction. I also compare my previous weight but mine is just going down for the first couple of months of the year followed by nothing until the beginning of the next year when it starts higher. Stupid really - it's all down to complete lack of will power... which is why I hope this time is different.
