Anyone up for loosing a stone - keeping each other company?

checkedcloth · 16/02/2022 08:05

I really need to loose a stone. I’m 45, confirmed menopausal and at my heaviest at 11st 12lbs.

This has been gradual weight gain over the last 3 years.

I need to loose it, I feel sluggish and I’m only 5’4 so I’m starting to look like a barrel.

I have a few factors that mean I give up easy, 2 hour daily commute, stressful role in the NHS and the other stuff of juggling 2 kids etc.

So doing this with others, having some accountability would be helpful for me.

Hello reporting back,
I weighed myself this morning and 1 kg is gone, but 1300 cal is so boringly sensible. I am looking forward to lent - not eating unneccessary stuff is much easier then; my DGM used to fast on Wednesdays and Fridays all her life and never needed to lose weight.

reckless that is shit! I take L-T because of Hashimoto's which was discovered after my chemo was done.

Sweetbabyrays · 19/02/2022 18:30

Checking in had an awful day yesterday, never ate all day then binged on crisps, nachos, crusty bread and lots of wine! Feel like crap today so I must remember this feeling when I think it’s a good idea next time! We’ve got hello fresh this week so that feels better, no processed food etc!

ninnynonny · 19/02/2022 19:22
@ninnynonny can you try cutting carbs and upping protein? It really works especially post menopause and on belly fat. I feel your pain having put on a stone a year for the 3 years following my "shop shutting" as I term it! I just didn't cotton on that the weight gain was related to the menopause until I'd got so big, so it's great that you've recognised the problem already - it must be something to do with hormones as I definitely can't eat anywhere near what I used to in terms of keeping the weight off.
I do find bread makes me even more bloated and awful feeling, so try hard to keep off it. Definitely need to do something as I'm feeling so down about it.
My sex drive is nil as well - I feel too embarrassed most of the time. DH and I used to be very active and now I just have no interest. No fun for either of us

BonesJones · 20/02/2022 08:15

sweetbabyrays I think that's your body/brain doing exactly what it think it needs to. The not eating all day panicked your body into thinking no food is coming so result was a binge. My binge type behaviour is always worse the minute I start to think 'diet' or 'I won't eat'. I'm sure that's why all diets fail. It immediately speaks deprivation to the brain and then cravings and binges creep in and then the weight goes back on, and more. So I try to think of dieting as regular healthy nourishment and making better food choices rather than 'I need to lose' or 'I won't eat xyz'. Making the next best choice too, so if I've eaten a pile of shite I try not to let it slip into all or nothing thinking and eat everything in sight (I don't always succeed 🤣). I try to think OK I'll make the next meal healthy and light.

BonesJones · 20/02/2022 08:29

Today I'm going to get some batteries for my scale, I'm about to do 20 mins of yoga flow, and going to focus on drinking lots of water and upping my veggie intake today. Will do a 40 min Caroline Girvan Epic heat workout later (a lower body one). They're so brutal though!

Yesterday was not a healthy day really, as I didn't take my own advice above...didn't eat all day (kind of on purpose) and then had a meal out with family: salad with blue cheese, cod and chips with loads of mayo, a pint of cider and a small tub of icecream for dessert. I knew it would be an overeat type affair. But going forward I'm going to aim for regular smaller veg loaded meals with protein and wholegrains. Its the chocolate I'm going to struggle with. Debating cutting it out altogether to stop the horrible cravings. But I know from experience that I'm enslaved to it and it's going to be a miserable process. Maybe I'll build up to it!

recklessgran · 20/02/2022 09:00

Morning all, hope everybody is doing O.K. I had a much better day yesterday and also spent some time explaining to DH how my particular plan works for me. He was struggling to understand why I could eat something one day but not the next so I explained to him about my 50gms carb limit so now he gets it - that it depends on what else I'm eating that day. @BonesJones I think it's really difficult to cut out something you love completely could you try changing to some "nice" dark chocolate. I buy myself a bar of 80% cocoa Lindt and just let myself have one square [about 60 cals] if I really need it. Alternatively I think the mini bags of chocolate buttons come in under 100 cals?

Minnie123456 · 20/02/2022 09:07

Can I join please? I need to loose just over 2 1/2 stone to reach "healthy" weight but I feel my recommended healthy weight is slightly too low for me so a stone is a good start. Currently weigh 12 stone 9lbs. I will weigh myself on a Sat or Sun.

Im an emotional eater as well although i've also got into the habit of snacking as soon as I get in from work.

Sweetbabyrays · 20/02/2022 09:23

I’ve been eating the dark milk giant buttons for a sweet craving, one or two seems to satisfy my craving enough!

ninnynonny · 20/02/2022 09:29

Woken up thoroughly fed up. I'd planned my 10 mile run this morning and just couldn't get up - plus wind....
Determined to start properly today. I try to have a banana, peanut butter, vegan yoghurt and oat milk smoothie every morning, so will do that and try my absolute best to avoid anything carby for the rest of the day (ever!)
Will also drag dh out for a bracing walk somewhere!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/02/2022 09:54

There are Kallax inserts that are lockable - DD and DH (who is ridiculously disciplined) have locked the chocolate, biscuits etc. away.
If I do not see it and cannot reach it, I will not eat it. Which helps.

My DMil lost her independence in old age because of her weight.

WhistlersandJugglers · 20/02/2022 19:18

Can I join too? I eat well during the day and exercise but it all falls apart in the evenings. I'm about 10st 10lb at the moment and only 5'2". I'd like to be about 9 St 10lb by the summer.
I had a blood test recently and I'm not in perimenopause so I can't blame the weight on that. I know I'd lose weight if I stuck to 16:8 but just haven't been able to get into it since Christmas.

73kittycat73 · 20/02/2022 20:59

I didn't diet very well today...Nieces came round and I couldn't help tuck into the chocolates and biscuits that were going round. Blush Still, weigh in day for me tomorrow, hopefully one bad day won't hurt too much!

badkitty · 20/02/2022 21:19

Bit of a bad day today - baked a rainbow cake with my daughter. Impossible to bake without sampling! Then made a roast but had half a baked potato instead of roasties or anything so not too bad.. Not weighing in till Wednesday. Will try and have a couple of really good days now!

73kittycat73 · 20/02/2022 21:35

Ooh, can't say no to cake! Grin Well done on no roasties! Shock Star Good luck for your good days. {smile]

polkadotty2 · 20/02/2022 22:33

I baked a delicious cake this weekend. Still have about half to finish..

I definitely need to lose weight and would like to join all of you in this quest..
I think ~50-52kg would be good for my height and frame. At the moment I am 58kg. 1 stone would be great, but I have no experience of losing weight. How do we start?!

Bringonsummer19 · 20/02/2022 22:36

Can I join please. I have one stone to loose

BonesJones · 21/02/2022 05:58

Still no batteries in scale. I WILL sort it today. Yesterday OK, did 20 min yoga flow and went for an hour walk in the storm. Had a big proper salad for lunch (spinach, avocado, red onion, goat's cheese, tomato, sweetcorn and two eggs, olive oil and mayo). Sunday dinner for tea over DP's but didn't over-eat, and a pint of cider and 2 squares dark choc. Drank loads of water. Happy with the veg intake. Plus I'm being realistic about weightloss so happy to have the odd splodge of mayo etc. I'm not going full deprivation because it's totally unsustainable for me and falling off the wagon is worse for me than plodding on imperfectly.

I have a physical job so full day of work today, doing my sport this eve as my DC are with their dad, plus about to do a half hr yoga sesh. Have got salmon salad planned for lunch (with mayo!) and need to food shop later so plan to stock up on plenty of veg, eggs and small amount of good quality meat from the butchers.

Am v.jeakous of all the cake chat!

recklessgran · 21/02/2022 07:37

Morning all. Today is my first weigh day.
Last week 14st 2.5lbs
Today 13st 13.5lbs.
That's a 3lbs loss for me and I'm really pleased with that given that I only managed to stick to my plan for 4 of the 7 days. [Emotional upset and stress are my triggers for eating too much of all the wrong carbs.] I shall continue this week with my 1000 calories and 50gms carbs but realise I won't be able to keep it up long term as it's not many calories. I might switch over to lazy keto in a couple of weeks.
I definitely need to drink more water and up the exercise though. When I'm behaving I'm eating a good diet. Today I'm planning tuna mayo salad for lunch and sausages, runner beans and broccoli for dinner. I will also do 12:8 intermittent fasting. How's everybody else doing? It's been fairly quiet on here over the weekend.

drybird · 21/02/2022 08:09

Morning all checking in and making myself accountable. I'm a subscriber to team RH but never actually used it.. today that changes ☺️ happy Monday all x

Bluesky4567 · 21/02/2022 13:34

Can I join? Am 12.5 stone today. Would love to get back to closer to 11, so initially a stone would be great!
Today have had-
Cereal
2 finger kit Kat
Lentil soup
Dinner will be quorn stir fry

badgerread · 21/02/2022 13:42

Can I join please? I'm 50, started HRT in September and had the coil fitted 6 weeks ago, I've put on half a stone in that time. I did the Joe Wicks 90 day plan in 2020 so have started that today. Fed up 😞

checkedcloth · 21/02/2022 16:15

Hello
Sorry I have been absent
I broke my ankle at the weekend
I am pausing the diet
Good luck to you all

OP posts:
recklessgran · 21/02/2022 18:51

OMG @checkedcloth I'm so sorry to learn that - how awful. I really hope you're O.K. and am sending you lots of well wishes for a speedy recovery but guess that will put you out of action for 6 weeks or so. I wouldn't even be considering trying to lose weight in those circumstances either but hope you'll come back here when you feel able.

73kittycat73 · 21/02/2022 19:46

Ooh, checkedcloth. Ouch. I hope it's not too painful? Will be good to see you back once you're healed. Smile
I weighed today too, 3lbs down. That's 9lbs down total so far. 42 to go! Shock lol

Bideyinn · 21/02/2022 21:34

I started properly today. I don’t have scales so I took my measurements instead. I’m calorie counting, doing 16:8 and trying to tone up. I’m so unfit as i barely move all day working at home in a stressful job. I’d like to make sure I walk for an hour each day but realistically I don’t have time during the day and I don’t want to go out in the evening when it’s dark and wet. Hopefully it will get a bit easier to do some exercise when the days get longer. I’ve started the 100 squats a day challenge so will see how that goes.
