Hi everyone. New thread as promised. A little later than planned but I'm blaming celebrating too much last night.
I wish I could say it was a good start but I'm feeding my hangover today so looks like I'm going to start tomorrow.
Is everyone feeling motivated?

All these dh's doing the cooking but not all that healthy

Picked up one of those rice packets and a pasta one today - what are the syn values? Don't have that much info from the website.

Had good day today - just had a j pot and beans and cheese and veggies - dh had it too. Have a healthy extra left so just deciding what to have. Got no fat fromage frais today so have that to work into recipes.

Sparkler · 03/02/2008 09:33

FFF - eat them all then they won't be around any longer to tempt you

I'm having an okayish week - just a little bit picky in the evenings. Glad to say there's no Christmas stuff around to tempt me anymore. I went to the gym for an hour and a half last night and plan to go again later today.
I'm back to basics filling out my food diary. Last night I had the biggest jacket potato you have ever seen with a whole tin of spaghetti dumped on the top - also broke up 3 babybel light on the top. Yum! I was so stuffed I could barely move.

hello.

i stepped on the scales today and apparently i have gained .5lb grrr.

anyway, last night i cooked a chicken korma from the curry feast book, was not overly impressed.

but today, i made the chip shop curry sauce from the sauce book. it was gorgeous!

can u tell i'm missing my curries?

MamaG · 03/02/2008 15:12

do you think the curry book is worth getting misdee? I really love curry and was thinking of getting a new book soon.

misdee · 03/02/2008 15:15

if u like curries then yes. the korma was my first attmept at cooking anything from the book, as i am really bad at shjopping and getting all the ingrediants together.

we also made the onions bahji's, i liked them but my mum didnt.

my mum is talking about giving up slimming world, which isnt a surprise to me at all, but i feel so disappointed as she has done exactly what i thought she would.

MamaG · 03/02/2008 15:16

how long has she been doing it? It took me a good 2 weeks to get teh hang of it, but I love it becuase I can eat a lot [pig emoticon]

misdee · 03/02/2008 15:33

she started the same week as me in cotober. but i know she isnt following it exactly, and she only about 3lb down from her original weight.

she keeps going out for meals, having macdonalds etc. drives me barmy, as she is diabetioc and meant to be taking care of herself and losing weight but she just doesnt seem to get how serious her weight is, and how losing it will help keep her diabetis in check.

she is following her usual dieting pattern of trying soemthing, not doing it right, then giving it up with a multitide of excuses about how its the diets fault and it doesnt work, and jacking it all in.

she has done WW, rosemary coloney, other dieting groups, looked at the GO diet etc etc.

misdee · 03/02/2008 15:41

oh i also tried today, 2 wheatabix with a big dollop of v low fat natural yoghurt and a drizzle tsp of honey. was very nice and very filling.

MamaG · 03/02/2008 16:15

TBH she sounds just like my MIL. She is diabetic and needs to lose weight, but insists on eating the wrong things.

For example, one time we were at their house she dished up rhubarb crumble and custard

"oh, the rhubarb is fruit so its free, I'll count the crumble as a HeB as its only a bit of flour and the custard as a HeA as its just a bit of milk (rofl)"

misdee · 03/02/2008 16:48

my mum will have a kfc and take the coating off.

Morgan · 03/02/2008 18:07

LOL at the coating off the kfc and the rhubarb crumble - never mind the sugar and fat content!

Feeling a bit beaned out so will have a red day tomorrow i think. Although good news was weighed today at my personal training and have lost 2lb since last Tues so pleased - will be weighed at training every Sunday so counting that as my weigh in. Just had tin of free soup and bread and ryvitas - as HEb's - does anyone know about philadelphia fat free as put some on my ryvita with marmite too - yummy!! On the sheet only have low fat but that is 2 syns per 28 grams so assume it is the same or less - only syns today so that is alright.

misdee · 03/02/2008 19:33

it is funny written down morgan, but oh so annoying in rl.

Fireflyfairy2 · 03/02/2008 20:33

I've had a strange day today. And last night. I had 2 small glasses of wine after dinner, but had the syns for them. Then dh opened a bag of crisps which I helped him eat Those wholegrain hula hoops???

Today I had pineapple & grapes for brekkie, lunch was potatoes, roast potatoes, veg & pork. Then I had rice pudding (free as we made it ourselves) & peach. I have just ate another of those Nigella's breakfast bars....

Back on track tomorrow!! Will have to have a free food day i think!

Had a very bad weekend diet wise. Had free food all day yesterday until last night and then had a domino pizza, garlic bread, lots of wine. Though sod it by that point so had 5 choc truffles as well.
Today not much better as went round to firend for dinner and had a full roast inc yorkie puds. Not too bad (I could have synned the yorkies and roast potato) but then they bought out a raspberry & clotted cream cheesecake with a sugar brulee type topping. Couldn't not have a bit
Am now fighting the urge to write off the whole weekend by having crumpets with real butter.
I seem to be fine when I follow SW to the letter but if I have a bad day (or one meal) it's really hard to then get back on track.
Gym and veg soup tomorrow I think.

SWlurker · 04/02/2008 09:04

Sugarlumps, I had rice with bits in yesterday like you said and it was so Scrummy and so filling - I had the mushroom one with mushrooms, peas and an onion. So much of it it really filled me up - had it before I went over to a friends to stop me picking, but still managed to stuff in half of a veg chow mein (any idea on syns - about 10?) and mars ice cream

Morgan, I don't know about the other brands but all the rices in batchelors range are free, and all the pasta n sauces apart from macaroni cheese (1 or 2 syns I think). Thats just the cook ones though - be careful with microwavable rice because most of them have syns.

Am v annoyed at self as have started going over syns regularly again. Really need to get into the good habit. Just hope exercise balances it out. Missed last week's weigh in, which never helps, I weigh in on Weds so must have a good few days now.

kitbit · 04/02/2008 09:23

Morning everyone, just found all of you, can I come and play???!! Did Slimming World many moons ago and now that we are overseas there are no clubs so have been trying to go it alone... not doing too badly but sometimes need some encouragement and a kick up the bum!!

Got to ask though, when I was there they were called "sins" why is it spelt with a "y" now! Is "syn" less bad?

SWlurker · 04/02/2008 09:42

Welcome! Ha ha I know the answer to this one, even though I haven't been to class for years, its supposed to be equate to "synergies" to make it sound more like a balanced diet (i.e. a little of what you fancy) rather than something naughty that should be banned.

Essentially its just the same as it was but spelt differently. I think a few things have gone up and down in syns, macaroni cheese and corned beef which used to be free have syns now for example, but if some kind person posts the password on here every week for the website, you can register on there and check all your syns on the calculator.

Best of luck keep in touch!

sugarlumps · 04/02/2008 09:53

morning people!!! well after a badish weekend i am now back on track!

i'm not sure exactly what it is about weekends but i always seem to lose my way!
lol

sil came round sat night like i said, and guess what??? yep, we had takeaway. i ad cantonese style s&s chicken with egg fried rice, but i was good in the sence i had mostly rice and only a quarter of the chicken dish. so far so good....
but the pigged out on 4 spring rolls and a bag of prawn crackers... oooops

it doesnt seem to have affected my loss to much though, i weigh the same today as i did sat morning, im really bad with weighing myself everyday. but i feel it helps me keep motivated!

made a curried rice for lunch! might have to do a red day 2moro, not had one in ages!

kitbit · 04/02/2008 10:13

ah, well that makes it seem a lot more fluffy! I think I need to keep calling them "sins" otherwise my suggestible (and driven by chocolate) brain will happily change it into something that doesn't really matter!

ooh, being able to access the website will be excellent, I know the syn values for the british foods and standard foods, but lots of other things I have no idea so have been having to avoid them.

SWlurker · 04/02/2008 10:25

Just been reading back on this thread for inspiration. 2 quick questions;

I'm sure I saw someone post about easy formula to work out syns - can't find it - did I imagine it?

And can anyone recomend the lowest syn microwavable rices?

Thank you

Shiraz · 04/02/2008 11:39

I'm joining you ladies (again) Hope ya don't mind

I've lost a stone following SW at home but am sliding off the wagon now!

I cannot attend group due to my working hours (grrr) so this will hopefully help me!

Could anyone give me the password for the wbsite at all?? I know how cheeky am i!

I'm on a a red day today!Let's see how it goes!

2 Weetabix and a cuppa so far!

SWlurker · 04/02/2008 13:25

Just devoured a whole tub of mini mozzarella from Lidl (bargain, 59p!) .... well, I mean to have 2 HEA's, but instead because I had cereal this morning and because they were "there" and moreish I've used all 4 HE's abd 10 syns!!!

Piggy piggy piggy!

sugarlumps · 04/02/2008 13:33

hi there, password is bovril changes after next friday i think.

SWlurker - syn formuler, the way i do it is 20 cal = 1 syn (approx) i think its about 25 actually but i always allow a few less so im definately not going over my syns!

as for low syn rices i always have batchelours they are usually 0 - 1 syn per pack,
chicken = 1/2 syn
beef = 1 syn
chinese = 1 syn
mild curry = 1 syn
mushroom = 1 syn
golden = free
corriander + herbs = free
garlic + butter = free
toasted almond + ginger = free
mild chili + lime = free
sweetcorn + peppers = free
lemon = free
if you add stuff to it though it normally makes enough for 2 meals, so i take half to work with me and either have the rest later or save it for the next day so its only 1/2 a syn or a 1/4 or freeeeeeeeeee!! lol

sugarlumps · 04/02/2008 13:36

ooo that sounds good, lurker lol
for lunch today i had 1 quorn burger, 1 quorn sausage, tomato, baked beans with pork sausages and 2 slices of bacon (no fat HEB)
2 syns but soooooooooo worth it!!!!
no more syns for me today im going to get 3lb off by thurs if it kills me!!!! hahaha
