Hi everyone. New thread as promised. A little later than planned but I'm blaming celebrating too much last night.
I wish I could say it was a good start but I'm feeding my hangover today so looks like I'm going to start tomorrow.
Is everyone feeling motivated?

of course hercules, to be honest with you it changes every time! i cook the rice in water with a veg stock cube, some dried cumin, corriander and a tad of curry powder i find the cumin adds a fair amount of flavour, then as it starts to cook off add all sorts of veg, tonight it was sweetcorn, chopped mushrooms, rasins, cubed apple and finely diced spinich, i sometimes take out the rice and do exactly the same thing with potatoes, but add lots of chopped tomatoes for potatoe curry! i got the initial recipie from the curry club booklet but like i say im always changing it!

lurcherlass · 13/01/2008 17:52

Diege..."I feel I'm cooking (or thinking about what to cook) all the time"...DITTO! I even sit in bed with my SW mags planning what to cook and what I need to buy. It has definately been good for us as a family tho, because we used to eat a lot of ready meals. When I realised how high-syn they were, I started cooking from scratch and it's become a habit now. I used to miss my curries, but the SW recipes are very nearly as good

kid · 13/01/2008 19:47

I am spending more time thinking about what I can eat too. I find that I am doing twice as much cooking as we are having different meals. Sometimes its even 1 meal for me, another for DH and a third for DC.
I reckon I should make whatever I am eating and get them to all eat that, but I know that won't happen.

Misdee · 13/01/2008 21:37

same here kid. my kids and dh are so so fussy. dh is worse than the kids

Beadmum · 13/01/2008 21:39

I do this too, always thinking about what to cook. I normally meal plan for the week and we always cook from scratch, i enjoy cooking and so does dh so dont find it a chore. Prefer to keep syns for goodies with cuppa at night anyway

Like the sound of your rice sugarlumps, will have to give that a try as well as the biryani

Beadmum · 13/01/2008 21:45

misdee and kid - not great having to do seperate meals, im lucky as dh will eat most things and dd is only 18mths and hasnt gone all fussy on me yet so hopefully continue to eat what we're having.

The great thing with sw is most meals can be adapted to be sw friendly, i got the nigella book for xmas and am studying it to see how i can change some recipes for sw, others i just have to indulge and enjoy on the odd occasion with flexible syns

Shhhh · 13/01/2008 22:07

well, things are going well in the shhhh household...DH has lost around stone in over a week on sw..yet I don't seem to be budging

Im sticking to it totally but still keep thinking about the 1 lb I have lost and hopeing its more this wk. God, it will depress me totally if its not...

Im not going to weight myself all wk and fingers crossed.

Even went to a kiddies party today and I had 0. Felt proud of myself although a little rude iykwim, just seems that people expect you to eat etc.Watching dd eat birthday cake....

Not sure if the fact that I feel full alot of the time help...imo it makes me feel fat and as though im over eating = no weight loss...anyone else feel that way..?

BTW sugarlumps, looks like we have the same target and are at the same point atm...although you have done well losing 7 lb in your 1st week, compared to my 1 lb . Keep it up . x

AandMsmum · 13/01/2008 22:41

Hi there, I'm fairly new to mumsnet so not sure how it all works joining groups!

I've been a Slimming World member since May 2007 and I'm a new target member. I need all the support I can get staying on the straight and narrow!

I go to the gym four times a week but I'm sometimes feeling it's more difficult to maintain than to lose, I was far more focused on weight loss and losing the plot a bit now!

Any other target member that could give me a few ideas on how to find a happy medium?

Thanks in advance!

kid · 13/01/2008 22:45

Shhh, have you measured yourself? As sometimes you might lose inches and not weight, I don't care which I lose as long as its at least one!

Stick with it, SW does work. Make sure you are working out your syns properly and if it says X amount for a B choice, make sure you weigh it out. I was into the habit of estimating and I found out I wasn't so good at it!

sugarlumps · 14/01/2008 14:33

shhhh, its not how much u eat that matters its what you eat, all the free food on sw is very low in cals n fat. i think im eating more since i started sw! which is always a good thing im on a red day today and i feel a little more limited as to what i can eat, had quorn and salad for lunch which was hmmmm interesting and im out for a meal tonight so fingers crossed i stay with my choice of steak and salad. and hopefully everyone else wont be having piles and piles of chips . i'll let you know how i get on

peachespaige · 14/01/2008 14:34

Wow Beadmum well done you! Ive lost 3lbs.... not sure how I feel really as I weighed myself mid-week (stupid I know) and had lost 3 so went to the gym and ate well so thought I could have shifted another pound, oh well. It was my first week and of course Im happy just too hard on myself.
Ive bought the after eight straw, so excited!

Shhhh · 14/01/2008 14:34

thanks KID,I haven't measured myself so maybe that an option...I agree, a decreased with ANYTHING would be pleasing.!!!

Well my "B's" tend to be bread or weetabix so mainly frm the grab section although my milk is my "A" and I don't measure it. Although that said I onl have it on cereal days and in brews....so I not sure im going over iykwim....

Will see what thurs brings..

A&Msmum, welcome. Well I had heard that when at traget a way to help maintain is to increase your B's by 1 to maybe 2 or 3 (depending on what you have now..). Although you may need to play around with things iykwim...You need to find a happy medium. May be worth speaking to your consultant.??

What effect does exercise have on the loss..? I understand its healthy etc but maybe cutting down the amount of exercise by a day or some time off each session..? Or even doing another form of exercise..? Something not as working iykwim..????

Not that I can comment...
Most I do is walking with the lo's or running around after them lol..!!!

sugarlumps · 14/01/2008 14:36

Besides shhh, every loss is a good one! theres -no- way i will lose 7lb in a week again! beginers luck i reckon!!!

Shhhh · 14/01/2008 14:40

think positive sl...!!! Well my mum and MIL both joined sw the same time as me and both lost 3 lbs...! And I thought they would be the ones to do it half harted and to drop out..! oh no.....its war now..! .

Misdee · 14/01/2008 17:50

how many syns for a whispa bar? i bought one at the shops. am going to split it with dh.

katylou25 · 14/01/2008 18:35

11 syns in a wispa .... but so worth it!

Misdee · 14/01/2008 18:38

ooo so 5.5syns if i split it. def worth it. means i cant have a curry tonight as thats 6syns for veg curry, so will have sw syn free bbq, over quorn fillets and topped with a HeA weight of cheese. hmmmmmmm. will serve it with huge plate of rice.

lurcherlass · 14/01/2008 19:47

Just had a lovely stir-fry. Chicken as HEB, loads of peppers, courgette, mushrooms, spring onion and sweetcorn. For a 2 syn sauce try 2 tabs dark soy sauce, 2 tsp honey, small chunk ginger (or powdered ginger), 1 clove of garlic. I used Sharwoods ribbon noodles in a pouch, which were gorgeous. Couldn't find them on the syn thing, but the Amoy ones are 2 1/2.

I agree about weighing, my 250ml of milk was WAY out

me23 · 14/01/2008 20:03

hi everyone got my weigh in tomorrow eve. I really don't think ive lost anything and it's only my 1st week! Oh well we will see!

andyrobo237 · 14/01/2008 20:54

Didnt go to class today - was sick yesterday - we think it was food poisoning from a meal out on Friday - so still felt a bit off today - great for not snacking though!

Will be extra good this week, and have done my meal planning for the week and ordered my food from Tesco - avoids the temptation of the goodies!
