10lbs in 10 weeks- anyone else?

Evening all
I'd like to lose 10lbs in 10 weeks. I'm hoping this is doable! I wanted to lose about a stone anyway but would be happy with anything above 7lbs.

I've been struggling a bit with motivation so hoping the event in 10 weeks will motivate me.
Stats: 5'6", 11st.
No 'plan' as such, I can't exercise much due to an injury but hoping to start a weekly swim.
Wine consumption has crept up and portion size is way out I'm sure, so that's where I'll start.
Anyone want to join me?

Hi Mercury hope you enjoyed your wine! I’ve stuck to my 1200 cals both days this weekend, although that did include a 4 finger kitkat, just because I really fancied one today. I’m a little worried I won’t see much movement on the scales this week because I also had a twix on Friday. I’d been so good up until this point. It’s still low cal but all that sugar won’t help.
Plan for the week is to hit the gym 4 times.

Heartbeats0708 · 06/02/2022 20:58

Hello all, I am still here and still exactly the same weight as when I started Hmm honestly, I'm glad I started the thread to see that actually I have been putting effort in on the whole, but it's very disheartening too! Good luck for weigh ins!

Heartbeats how disappointing for you. Have you managed to figure out why, did you say you were on some meds that might be causing an issue?

Heartbeats0708 · 07/02/2022 07:22

I haven't really @SingaporeSlinky I'm on antidepressants but very slowly tapering off them, that's the only difference to last time I lost weight. That and I'm older Grin I've wondered if maybe this is just my happy weight, or if my metabolism is shot after too much yoyo dieting, or another reason but then argue that its basic science of calories in and out. I just don't know!

Is it worth using a calorie counting app for a week to see what’s going on? I think you were using slimming world principles but maybe you need to make sure you are at a calorie deficit. I think from what I’ve read, that messing up your metabolism is just a myth, and it really is as simple as eating less than you’re using, consistently.
I think we started at around the same stats in terms and goals, and I have had to stick to 1200 calories or less every day for over 4 weeks now, plus exercise, to lose at the rate of 1-2 lbs per week. It is a slog, but actually I’m enjoying the food I eat, and I know I can keep it up.

SingaporeSlinky · 07/02/2022 11:37

Oh, and fresh week, today I weighed in at 9st 12 (so 9lb total loss).
Went to a gym class this morning. Just had porridge with grated apple and cinnamon. Dinner will be a salad with avocado, cashews, walnuts, olives and honey & mustard dressing.

Hope everyone is ok, had a good weekend and back on track for the week!

Redcrayons · 07/02/2022 14:46

2lb down today 🎉 back to my pre christmas weight, although still 10lbs away from my pre lockdown weight.

I slept badly last night so Im very tired today and using all my willpower to stay away from the comfort food.

Well done everyone else.

SingaporeSlinky · 07/02/2022 15:05

Well done @Redcrayons I’m always annoyed at having Christmas weight to lose on top of usual excess weight, but can’t imagine a December without chocolate, mince pies etc!

Heartbeats0708 · 07/02/2022 18:14

Nice job @SingaporeSlinky you're smashing it! And you too @Redcrayons 👌
I've got my fitness pal so I'll track for a week and see. In terms of the SW principles I suppose I just meant in terms of limiting dairy as I already rarely eat bread or cereal, and considering lower calorie treats/drinks when I do have them.
I cook from scratch a lot so I do find it a bit faffy having to calorie count but it might shed some light!

I’m very late to this but would love to join! I’m starting at a similar weight you were OP, I’m 5ft 6 and 11st 2, I’ve got a holiday booked for first week of June and would love to lose a stone and be more toned! I’m trying to get up early and do exercise and also track cals. First day today and feeling hungry/tired!!

Welcome Nelly040 and good luck. The hunger does start to pass, just remember that you don’t need to constantly have a full stomach. Now when mine grumbles I just ignore it, I’d rather feel a little hungry than my old ways of constantly feeling bloated.

A big mug of hot water with lemon, or green tea also fills you up in between meals if you like them, and needed in this weather!

SingaporeSlinky · 08/02/2022 12:40

Heartbeats it is a faff logging everything, but it gets quicker as you go along, I just copy meals across days now. And things like veg don’t have many cals, but it’s the cooking oil, butter, and pasta etc that might be adding up.

I did a spin class this morning and I know it’s going to hurt tomorrow! Tomorrow I’ll go to the gym but just take it easy, so it’s a 25 min walk each way, I might do the cross trainer for a bit and then some weights and I think that’ll be enough. Booked into another class Thursday so that’ll be my 4 sessions for the week. Hoping for another pound off this week to get me to my 10lbs off.

Dumfee · 08/02/2022 17:03

Hi all! Well done for losses or even maintains - hey, it's not weight on!!

I joined up to weightwatchers a couple of weeks ago after making zero progress. It is helping to keep me accountable and I seem to be able to eat lots of free food. Weekends are still a sticking point but I made much healthier choices this weekend so steps in the right direction

SingaporeSlinky · 08/02/2022 18:22

Dumfee has it helped with weight loss?

MercuryRising · 08/02/2022 20:20

Hi Dumfee. I've had a good day. I swam this evening and remembered how much I love it so definitely plan to start doing it more regularly.

SingaporeSlinky · 09/02/2022 14:22

Went to the gym this morning but didn’t have much energy, so as I said, a short session on treadmill, cross trainer, a few arm and leg weights, and rowing machine. I’m going to take my own music tomorrow because I can barely hear theirs and it’s not helping me by just staring at the machine timers.
I’m booked onto a class tomorrow, so at least I’ll hit my goal of 4 sessions this week.
Weight loss is definitely slowing, but I’m not sure I can speed it up any more, I’m only eating 1200 cals. So apart from even more gym time, I’m a bit stuck.

Dumfee · 09/02/2022 14:44

I think it is helping! I'd got stuck in a rut of assuming IF was the only thing that worked but then feeling really hungry and binging at weekends. At least this way I'm planning wine/choc/treats etc into my week.

I was 10st 8lbs this morning so 3lbs down since we started (I think that's an average of 1lb a week?) I really want to crack 10 1/2 this week as I was down to 10st 7lbs the week after Christmas but put it all back on again. To get under that half stone is my next goal

BaconAndAvocado · 09/02/2022 20:02

Can I join please?
I’m 5’5” and 10 stone and would like to lose roughly half a stone.
I tried the 5:2 for a few weeks and lost a bit but have fallen off the wagon.

My downfall is sugar in the form of biscuits, chocolate......all the good stuff which I can’t seem to restrict very easily.

Sometimes I feel ok with how much I weigh and then other times I hanker after being slimmer again.
I’m perimenopausal too.

SingaporeSlinky · 10/02/2022 11:57

Welcome @BaconAndAvocado
Yes it’s the sugar isn’t it, I have to be disciplined with not buying chocolate in the first place. If I give in and tell myself I’ll just have a small amount, I immediately want more, then feel annoyed at myself as soon as I’ve finished.

I’m sort of allowing myself one treat per week now, which has been either a chocolate bar, or a nice dessert. But then I do spend far too much mental energy worrying if it’ll affect the scales the next day or two, or what exercise I’m going to do to burn it off.

I did a 45 minute class at the gym today, followed by 30 mins on the cross trainer. The cross trainer told me I’d burned 190 cals, which doesn’t seem like a lot. The kitkat I had at the weekend was 209 cals! That’s a lot of exercise to basically have zero affect, so if I’m going to have a treat, it needs to be really worth it!

BaconAndAvocado · 10/02/2022 15:19

SingaporeSlinky
I wouldn't worry too much about the 190 cals, exercising is always going to be good for you. Sounds like you exercise well!

I did Couch to 5K during the first lockdown but haven't found my running mojo since.
I also stopped using a PT who used to really motivate me to exercise on the days I didn't see her.
We have a dog now so I do a 2 hour walk every day but it's nothing like I used to do.

I like your idea of having one nice snack a week, you must have incredible willpower!

SingaporeSlinky · 10/02/2022 16:06

That’s true, the cals burned is a bonus I guess, but it’s good for me physically of course. It’s just the direct comparison that kind of stung a little.
A 2 hour dog walk is great!

Funnily enough I used to think I had no willpower at all. And once I have a sugary food, I definitely find it harder to resist more, but they think your brain basically gets re-wired to crave more, don’t they? So just resisting in the first place is easier for me.

SingaporeSlinky · 11/02/2022 08:07

Guys, I did it!
10lbs off in 5 weeks 🥰

Looking back on my MFP log, I started 7th Jan and lost each week 3lbs, 2, 2, 1, 2

SW 10st 7
CW 9st 11

Next target is to get to 9st 7

Redcrayons · 11/02/2022 11:11

@SingaporeSlinky well done Star

BaconAndAvocado · 11/02/2022 13:52

That’s brilliant SingaporeSlinky 👊🏻
Well done you!
I’ve decided in the weekly shop I’m not going to buy any chocolate or biscuits.
DH also wants to lose weight and the DCs have pocket money if they want to buy some.
Snacking is definitely my downfall. My 3 main meals are all pretty healthy.
Tend to use HelloFresh or Gousto meals/recipes for dinner which have loads of vegetables.
