Not going to be fat and 50!

MrsMigginsCat · 01/01/2022 21:09

Every year I say I'm going to do it, but this year I'm determined that I have to lose it. I've got my 50th birthday in May and a once in a lifetime trip in October. I don't want to be fat for either.

I've ordered a treadmill. I like walking, but don't like going out before or after work when it's dark so I thought this would get me back into being more active. Eating wise I'm going to follow Fast800 for a boost at the beginning. I'm the kind of dieter that needs to see results quickly otherwise I'm in danger of giving up so I'm hoping this will give me a decent loss at the start and spur me on.

Anyone want to join me in an accountability thread?

🤣🤣

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 10/02/2022 19:20

Still got room for one more? I'm 50 at the end of the year, and after spending pretty much all of my 40s unhappy with my body I am now determined to be fit, healthy and happy with my body by the time I'm 50.

Currently calorie counting using nutracheck and trying to be active every day. I'm using Les mills at home and just finished week 6 of couch to 5k. According to the scales this morning I've lost almost 7lbs since the new year. I've got half a stone to go to my target, though I would love to lose a stone.

It'd be good to have somewhere regular to post for accountability!

MrsMigginsCat · 10/02/2022 19:22

Did something right out of my comfort zone today. I went sea swimming. No wetsuit, just my cossie! Blimey it was cold, but afterwards I felt amazing. I'm lucky enough to work right by the coast in North Cornwall so am intending to go with my other mad colleague at least once a week, probably more when it's warmer.

Welcome @whatwouldthedoctordo, sounds like you're well in your way!

Wow, that's inspiring @mrsmigginscat! What a great new thing (for you, brr!).

I'm laughing at the ways in which people try to get a lower number on the scales! I have an old style set so I have to make sure it's right on 0 before I get on, and then I get on and off a few times and try standing in different places on the scales!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 10/02/2022 21:01

Thanks for the welcome @dudsville!

DH is trying to get into sea swimming @MrsMigginsCat - but there's no way he'd go in without a wetsuit! I like to exercise from the comfort of my own spare room.

frosties24 · 10/02/2022 22:01

Welcome @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo 🤗
Blimey @MrsMigginsCat well done but 🥶🥶you’re braver than me!
Ah yes@dudsville the scales must be positioned in exactly the right spot

diege · 11/02/2022 18:01

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo welcome! Lots of us newbies this week!
@MrsMigginsCat you are a braver woman than I am! Not for a million pounds 🤣
Am resisting having a fu*ck it night and eating all the chocolate 😫 Have a cream egg waiting but could eat a box.
How does everyone else keep strong?

dudsville · 11/02/2022 19:05

We don't, but we carry on with our good intentions @diege! I'm writing from my position on the exercise bike and I have a glass of wine here too! The weekend is clear to walk and bike, this keeps me in the game!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 11/02/2022 20:38

Thanks for all the welcomes!

I've had a very good couple of days on the calories and exercise, do have some calories in the bank for a couple of glasses of wine tonight. I am also having a few Pringles but I weighed a 30g portion instead of eating the whole tube

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 11/02/2022 20:42

@diege I am tracking calories on nutracheck. I have a rule that if I have any treats, I log them before consuming them. That often puts me off especially when it's a trade off e.g. if I have that creme egg I can't have a glass of wine later.

It doesn't always work, but I try!

frosties24 · 12/02/2022 10:58

I lost 3/4 of a Ib this week - slow and steady wins the race. I lost half an inch from my waist since last Saturday though so I’ll take that.
I agree, it is really hard to stay strong on Friday and Saturday nights particularly!
Good idea re track before you eat!
I’m trying to use the “collapsing the future” technique. I.e. Think of a date or event in the future (5 months, my 50th) and imagine 2 scenarios, one when I eat all the lovely food and drink all the wine til then. How will I feel deciding what to wear for my party and trying it on still over 13 stone. The 2nd scenario if I stick with it and don’t eat all the stuff. Imagine getting into the dress I want to fit into and going to my party at under 11 stone. Sounds v smug and wanky written down 🤪

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/02/2022 12:02

Not wanky at all @frosties24!

Our office is reopening at the beginning of next month so will be seeing some people in person for the first time in 2 years. Determined to lose a few pounds before then.

dudsville · 12/02/2022 17:45

I'm exhausted! I cycled 16 miles last night, and today I walked 5 miles in 55 min and then cycled 7.5 miles. I want to try to do a lot tomorrow too, with the knowledge that I won't do as much during the working week, and I do feel proud, but wow am I tired!

I agree, it's not wonky at all @frosties24, I have been known to hang the item I want to wear on adorable hook so I see it often and remember my intentions. Congratulations on your loss!

That's a great motivator @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo! Out of curiosity, how many pringles is a 30g portion?

frosties24 · 12/02/2022 18:20

Well done @dudsville👏🏻💪🏼Awesome.
Oh yes, I hang up clothes I want to fit into as well

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/02/2022 20:00

@dudsville it's 157 calories. And a fairly measly looking portion. I had 50g in my bowl originally then put some back once I check the calories!

I had a good morning and afternoon - baked ham and egg for breakfast and some steamed gyozas and side salad for lunch. Exercise was a bodycombat class. Dinner is likely to come out pretty calorific (deep fried cod) but it was very good!

babyt2020 · 12/02/2022 20:12

I'd like to join in please! I'm 40 on the 2nd of august and have 2 babies who are 19 months and 7 months and my weight is currently 15 stone 10lbs 😫 I was 17 stone 7lbs in September so I've made a good start but I'd like to get down to 13 stone. When I met my partner 5 years ago I was 11 stone!! It's a disgraceful amount of weight to have gained and I'm pretty disgusted with myself. I'm very active and go on 5/6 mile walks with our boys most days but wine, cheese and chocolate are my vices! I'm going to follow slimming world as it's always worked in the past for me.

MrsMigginsCat · 12/02/2022 21:15

Welcome @babyt2020. That's a good loss since September!

Roominmyhouse · 13/02/2022 17:56

Sounds like a mixed bag of weeks! Which is exactly how mine was. I stuck to my food and exercise until yesterday when I had a sausage and chips from the chippy, a cupcake, 2 pints and a G&T! 🙈

Didn’t lose anything this week so stuck on 6.6lbs lost since 6th Jan. Hoping it’ll be a whoosh week this week but I’m out for dinner Wednesday and Friday which complicates matters. Will try and make sensible choices.

frosties24 · 13/02/2022 21:07

Welcome @babyt2020
Let’s hope it’s a “whoosh week” for everyone next week (good phrase @Roominmyhouse)

dudsville · 13/02/2022 21:53

I did a lot of miles on the bike today, so although I didn't do it daily, it breaks down to 8 miles a day this week. I doubt I've lost anything though as I over did it with yesterday's exercise and became ravenous. My silver lining as I will still have been building muscle and tone... but I would like to stop having to look for the silver lining and just see some weight loss! I was hardly moving before. This isn't fair!

frosties24 · 13/02/2022 22:19

Well done @dudsville that’s brilliant! I’ve focused on sticking with food plan this week but I’ve been rubbish with exercise. Got to get onto that too

frosties24 · 14/02/2022 09:11

2 lbs down this morning - the “whoosh” hooray !

Roominmyhouse · 14/02/2022 09:11

Had the urge to weigh this morning, glad I did. Definitely had a little whoosh over the weekend. I’ve lost 8lbs in total now in just under 6 weeks. Very happy with that! ☺️

frosties24 · 14/02/2022 09:13

👏🏻

diege · 16/02/2022 11:30

Some good inspiring losses on here! Ive lost 2 pounds across 2 weeks (good for me) but had a blip on Valentine's courtesy of Hotel Chocolat and the chippy 🤣 Back on it since Tuesday, give or take a cream egg. Need to drop another pound or two by the time of the dress fitting (25th). Am going to need at least 8 inches lobbed off the length and would like it fitting better so that I can actually shorten the adjustable straps to when they are supposed to sit! 😂
