Not going to be fat and 50!

MrsMigginsCat · 01/01/2022 21:09

Every year I say I'm going to do it, but this year I'm determined that I have to lose it. I've got my 50th birthday in May and a once in a lifetime trip in October. I don't want to be fat for either.

I've ordered a treadmill. I like walking, but don't like going out before or after work when it's dark so I thought this would get me back into being more active. Eating wise I'm going to follow Fast800 for a boost at the beginning. I'm the kind of dieter that needs to see results quickly otherwise I'm in danger of giving up so I'm hoping this will give me a decent loss at the start and spur me on.

Anyone want to join me in an accountability thread?

I'm at 178lb this morning, that's 10lbs down since Christmas. Really pleased, had a blip on a weekend away last week and took all week to pull it back. Out for a meal tonight so will try to exercise more self control this week.

Roominmyhouse · 04/02/2022 09:08

Decided to step on the scales again this morning. Glad I did, 2lbs down from yesterday! Overall 6.6lbs down since 6th January. Very pleased with that!

dudsville · 04/02/2022 18:22

That's got to be a great unexpected boost @Roominmyhouse, and 10 pounds down @Jocastafantastica1, congratulations both!

I've not stepped back on the scales, but I had a fair amount of alcohol yesterday so that's probably stalled my efforts. I cycled 14 miles today, I have an 8.5 mile walk planned for Sunday and tomorrow I intend to do both the exercise bike and the treadmill.

Roominmyhouse · 05/02/2022 10:43

@dudsville the alcohol bloat seems to take several days to go doesn’t it. I had about 4 pints of cider last night, I really need to stop drinking pints and drink something less calorific!

All that cycling is fab though!

MrsMigginsCat · 06/02/2022 10:05

Well I well and truly slipped off the wagon yesterday. Way too much wine, tapas and late night pizza. Oh well, back on it today. I've just had porridge with pear and almond flakes to dull the hangover and am about to go for a walk to pick up the car.

I would love to join please if the membership window is still open? SmileI've been reading the thread and have to say what an inspirational lot you all are!

I'll be 52 in May and while I'm just into the healthy range for my weight, have the lovely excuse of a wedding dress to fit into come August Grin

I've been focusing on actively losing weight since after Christmas and am a convert like a few others on here to the 16.8 fasting, plus logging calories on MFP. Exercise-wise I am loving Lucy Wyndham-Read's 10 minute low-impact exercise videos on YouTube. Do one in front of my laptop in between work tasks. Well with a try if you like your exercise short and relatively painless 🤣

Current weight is 9 stone 9 pounds and looking to get to around 9 stone (I'm very short!). So not much to go but since menopause finding it really tough to get these last few pounds gone!

Roominmyhouse · 06/02/2022 16:23

@MrsMigginsCat wine, tapas and pizza sounds fun though!

@diege welcome!

dudsville · 06/02/2022 20:43

Hi @diege! It's so useful have a goal date and yours sounds fab!

This wagon must have breaks in its journey @mrsmigginscat, enjoy the fun you had!

Well my weekend has been mixed. I did cycle and treadmill yesterday, but the weather today was full on gales and heavy rain due the start of the day, but I did get half the walk in later on (and got a little rained on, brrr) and I cycled this evening. I'm loving feeling the muscles develop in my thighs. I think my calves are a smidgen smaller.

I have a family trip coming up and I've been worrying how I'll maintain my development during that time. Your idea @Diege of YouTube videos might be just the thing. Though I do hate jumping around so I might need to be selective!

diege · 07/02/2022 11:17

Thanks for the welcome! @dudsville I am taking my lead off you and trying to get some rest exercise in every day. Im still able to work from home and miss my 40 minutes each way walk to the station.

Those Lucy Wyndham Read videos are SO good...All low impact (no jumping!) and I feel very virtuous afterwards. No change of clothes or footwear needed, so I just click on the laptop , stand up, and its finished before I know it 😅

Sending positive thoughts for the week ahead Smile

diege · 07/02/2022 11:18

Rest exercise? Freudian slip! 🤣

frosties24 · 07/02/2022 23:47

Can I join late please? Great title as I’m going to be 50 in July. 13 stone 2 now, I want to be 10 stone 10 by my birthday. Planning to count calories, give up wine and try and get as many steps in as I can

dudsville · 08/02/2022 07:54

Hi @frosties24, welcome!

I think my problem in the past might have been a too firm belief in "rest exercise"!

MrsMigginsCat · 08/02/2022 08:02

Hi @frosties. You are a similar weight and have the same target as me. Although I'm 50 in May so have a bit less time to lose the chunk!

OP posts:
Roominmyhouse · 08/02/2022 08:57

@MrsMigginsCat @frosties24 I’m also a similar weight, well about half a stone heavier. I dream of 10st 10. I’d love to get down to under 12st by my birthday end of May. Anything else is a bonus!

frosties24 · 08/02/2022 09:50

Thanks for the welcome 🤗
Good to see others with similar targets @MrsMigginsCat @Roominmyhouse
We can do this!

dudsville · 08/02/2022 20:16

I've not managed any exercise today as I only got 2hrs sleep last night and spent the day zombying instead. I hope to get back on track tomorrow.

I wasn't going to post my weight but it looks like a few of us are in similar boats so that feels easier, and it is good to have a space to think about what happened. I was thin up until 40, when a bad year played havoc on my body and I ballooned to a tight fitting 16. The weight naturally came down to a loose fitting 14, and I really liked how I looked at that size so sat there happily for years. But I started wanting looser fitting things just before the pandemic so I may have started eating more then, and then I gradually did less and less whist eating the same or more. So stupid. I'm guessing I was 11 st, maybe 10.8 when I was happiest so that's what I'm aiming for and I'll check then whether that is indeed my happy place and then assess whether to continue my efforts or focus on maintenance, but if I get to 11.6 by my birthday ill be really pleased. Each little loss is literally a step in the right direction.

Annoyingly I started from 13st. I'm currently hovering at about 12.3 or 4 (I have stupid scales and poor eyesight!).

dudsville · 08/02/2022 20:18

Ps, my "so stupid" comment is solely directed at me. I basically ignored my own obvious behaviour and am paying for it now!

MrsMigginsCat · 08/02/2022 20:42

I've not managed any exercise either today @dudsville. I'm surprised how guilty I feel about it as well. I spent a day in the office today and only managed just over 2.5k steps all day and fully intended to jump on the treadmill when I got home. It was not to be. Instead I made dinner and flopped into the chair because I couldn't be arsed.

I've still not weighed myself, but I'm finally starting to think that my clothes may be a teeny weeny bit looser (hopefully!). I'm going to stay off until the end of this month and see where I am. If I've managed to get below 13 stone, I will be delighted. Ideally by my birthday I'd like to be sub 12 stone and then lose the last 1.5ish stone over the summer in time for our trip to Australia (which finally looks like it might actually happen!) in October.

frosties24 · 08/02/2022 22:17

@dudsville Are you me? 🤣

frosties24 · 08/02/2022 22:30

@MrsMigginsCat well done so far. Trip sounds exciting!

diege · 09/02/2022 21:45

@MrsMigginsCat That's really positive progress, and how exciting to be planning for a trip to Australia!
@dudsville An exercise-free few days here too, after all my going on about how easy the youtube videos are to just do. Tomorrow it is!!
@frosties24 are you following any particular diet/exercise plan? You sound nice and motivated!
Im a daily weigher, and seem to average max a pound a week. Which is fine if a little frustrating when I have my damn wedding dress fitting on the 25th Confused I have no idea why I booked it so early!

frosties24 · 09/02/2022 22:06

Hi @diege. Wow such an exciting motivation for you this year!!
I’m feeling very focused this year post-pandemic and turning 50. I’m aiming to walk 10,000 steps a day unless work is too busy. I try to say I’m weighing weekly but I can’t resist stepping on the scales most mornings (naked obviously, on top toes as soon as I wake up and breathing in🤣). First week I lost 5lbs but not it’s more like a pound or less per week a few weeks in but I’m sticking with it as I can’t expect 5 lbs that was just the initial shock. I’ve been on it a few weeks. Official weigh in Saturdays 😬

frosties24 · 09/02/2022 22:07

*tiptoes not top toes - what are they?

frosties24 · 09/02/2022 22:25

Ooh yes, I forgot, I’m also eating my counter calories in (roughly) 8 hour window, so a bit of 16/8 too. Please excuse the slightly unhinged multiple post here

diege · 10/02/2022 16:51

@frosties24 I (personally) think that a pound a week is really sustainable and quite satisfying too. I thought of you this morning as I stepped on the scales, but didn't go on tiptoes! I remember years ago a rather zealous lady at Slimming World stripping down to her bra at weigh in after being told that she hadn't lost that week 🤣 Another ran off 'for a poo' and then insisted on weighing again (she lost a pound!) Shock
I think I've had my pound for this week and am looking forward to my daily cream egg (walnut whip when out of season).
