Mutual support thread for people with a lot of weight to lose. Part III

alphaechokiwi · 10/10/2021 18:29

This is a mutual support thread for people who have a lot of weight to lose. The original thread started with a poster who wanted to lose 9 stone and has evolved from diet advice to offering each other mutual long term support. Most of us have started in the morbid obese range or with a BMI in the high 30's (ish).
Everyone is welcome, regardless of where you are on your 'journey'. We have some inspiring stories. But also lots of us are muddling along, sometimes doing well and sometimes not so well.
We're all at different points. Some have lost lots of weight and are now maintaining. Others part way through a big weight loss and others starting out. We try to offer encouragement, congratulations or consolations where needed. We are respectful of different approaches and recognise that everyone has their own unique set of circumstances.

Well done @wombatsandweightloss! I weigh in tomorrow.

WeightlossKin · 15/11/2021 19:40

I gained a pound this week from the last time I weighed myself... Or I lost half a pound from my last slimming world weigh in depending how I want to look at things!
Wombats that's a great weight loss! Well done 😊 goodluck @SnowyMouse how do you feel it's gone this week?

SnowyMouse · 15/11/2021 19:49

I think it's gone well, the week after my monthly I lose lots (compared to plateaus/gain when during my monthly).

HerRoyalWitchyness · 15/11/2021 21:42

Well done wombats

I've lost another 1lb this week. Not huge but it's still heading in the right direction so I'm pleased with that.

Overstrained · 16/11/2021 07:57

Hello
I'd like to join you all. I'm a third of the way on my journey to a healthier BMI. I started just after lockdown and dabbled with different methods to shift my excess weight, varying from low carb, intermittent fasting to calorie counting. I lost 2 stone over 6 months but it was very up and down and stressful- hardly great for my metabolism. Meanwhile my adult DD who has PCOS and had a significant weight problem quietly joined Slimming World and it just worked for her- I think she found some really great motivational people in the group and she also loves cooking. She very gently used her powers of persuasion on me and encouraged me to have another go- so here I am, happily and steadily losing weight with another couple of stones in the bag and I feel I've found a key that works- (I think it's my magical DD really). I still need positivity and motivation to keep going and when I find quotes or memes or articles that resonate with me- I copy them into an onlne journey to reread when I need encouragement.

SnowyMouse · 16/11/2021 11:53

Welcome @Overstrained!

I've weighed in today:
SW: 14 stone 4
CW: 13 stone 7.75 (week 12, 16 nov, 1.5 lb loss)
GW: 13 stone 0 (Christmas)

DaisyNGO · 17/11/2021 14:06

My cold is hanging on and I have no idea how my weight is going. One day showed a 1.5lb loss, then back to normal.

SnowyMouse · 17/11/2021 14:31

I was back up to 13 st 8 today, it fluctuates daily I found. I use an app called Happy Scale, which smooths out the losses. @DaisyNGO

Overstrained · 17/11/2021 17:07

Thanks @SnowyMouse. I had put on half a pound last week at weigh in but yesterday I lost 5 and a half pounds. So pleased to be making progress as I've got 4 stone to go before I can even consider hip surgery, but this time I'll get there- the pain is my driving force.

SnowyMouse · 17/11/2021 17:26

That's great loss @Overstrained!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 19/11/2021 08:58

Hi everyone - its good to see lots of familiar names still posting plus some new ones! Great to see some good losses as well as equally importantly people who are struggling not giving up!
Its really hard at this time of year when the weather is often depressing I think! Still those of you in the UK possibly have Christmas things to motivate you? Not sure whether Christmas get togethers/ seeing people you haven't seen in awhile/ opportunity or unwanted expectations of dressing up a bit is always motivating or stressful though?

Zebracat have you been able to get back to swimming? I know its so important to you psychologically as well as physically - I know walking is the same for me, and not being able to do it would be a big mental set back even ignoring the calories burned and muscle tone maintained.

For those who don't know me I lost about 49 kg - somewhere around 7.5 stone - between July 2020 and August 2021, to reach the top of a healthy BMI (from a BMI if 41 to 24.5). I'm very aware that 80% of people who lise a lot of weight have put it all back on within 5 years, so I know this is still a work in progress though!

My goal weight was 70.5 kg and Ive mostly been hovering just above that at around 72kg since briefly hitting goal in August. I've been up to 73kg and down to 71 and keep swinging between the two. 71.4kg this morning. I know it's not much over but don't want to be on a slippery slope to regain so am aiming to try to "reset" my body to swing between 68 and 70kg instead of between 70 and 72! So although I said I don't want to lose any more due to skin starting to get a bit loose on the tops of my arms, I'm going to try to lose a little bit more with a new goal of 68kg mainly to avoid being ok with 73kg, then deciding 75kg is still ok, then letting it slip to 80kg as that still isn't bad at all compared to my heaviest weight ... but then being obese again and potentially carrying on down a slippery slope back to where I started!

Sorry not to name check this time - I have read the thread but there are a lot of posts since I last checked in and I need to stop procrastinating on MN and move myself now!

DaisyNGO · 19/11/2021 10:14

So impressed with the losses here

My cold is shifting, the fluctuating scales this week have shown everything from 13 st 9lb to 13st 6lb.

I did have a moment of thinking this is a bad time of year to do this but it's already pretty bad so I have to stick to my guns.

Hopefully the scales will settle at something real this weekend and I'll use it as a starting point.

WeightlossKin · 21/11/2021 16:04

How have the scales behaved for you this weekend @DaisyNGO?
@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme that sounds a very sensible and well thought out plan 😊 I think you're doing amazingly well! It's definitely so easy for it to creep back up.

How is everyone doing this week/weekend?

It's my slimming world weigh in tomorrow evening but my period is due today/tomorrow. I'm hoping for a really good loss 😬 2lbs or more please weight loss gods 🙏

SnowyMouse · 21/11/2021 16:09

Good luck @DaisyNGO Fluctuations can be so frustrating. I use Happy Scale, which plots a line that takes them into account.

DaisyNGO · 21/11/2021 18:48

Sorry to say the scales have been set at the higher figure this weekend.

I don't think I gained weight during the cold bug so it must be from the week before. It is clearly a gain.

I feel a bit despairing, especially with the cold weather.

SnowyMouse · 21/11/2021 19:53

Oh hugs Sad You can start losing again! @DaisyNGO

DaisyNGO · 21/11/2021 21:56

@SnowyMouse

Oh hugs Sad You can start losing again! *@DaisyNGO*
Thank you I will try

I just felt a bit despairing today

I was walkimg back from the supermarket, it was shit freezing and I thought...what, no hot choc even when I get home?

Small things add up to so many calories!

SnowyMouse · 23/11/2021 11:22

Here's my weekly weigh in:

SW: 14 stone 4
CW: 13 stone 6.25 (week 13, 23 nov, 1.5 loss)
GW: 13 stone 0 (Christmas)

DaisyNGO · 23/11/2021 14:48

Well done Snowy!

wombatsandweightloss · 23/11/2021 15:43

After my binge of 28 packets of crisps over the course of 4 days I am pleased to say I have only gained 300g. Woo. I did go to the gym 5 times last week, so I think I earned a small gain. I was showing at 1.5 kg gained on Thursday, so I was surprised. Needless to say I’m not going to binge again.

SnowyMouse · 23/11/2021 17:02

Thanks. Good luck with not binging @wombatsandweightloss

Momto3smalls · 23/11/2021 17:53

Hello! I’m a longtime lurker and first time actually engaging… please can I join you all? I’m 1 week in 6lb down, about 6 stone to go before I’m top end of healthy range 😩 really need some support as I’m a huge emotional eater. I stuff my face as soon as I feel stressed and that seams to be often 😅

SnowyMouse · 23/11/2021 17:58

You're very welcome @Momto3smalls Well done on your 6 lb. Sorry you overeat when stressed.

alphaechokiwi · 23/11/2021 18:02

Hi everyone, I've been away for 10 days due to a family emergency in my home country. Thankfully all is ok now. Not great for weight loss though 😭😱. Pretty sure I've gained a few kgs but I'll weigh myself on Sunday as usual.
I've not had a chance to catch up on the thread yet. I hope everyone is well and a very big welcome to the new people joining us.
