Mutual support thread for people with a lot of weight to lose. Part III

This is a mutual support thread for people who have a lot of weight to lose. The original thread started with a poster who wanted to lose 9 stone and has evolved from diet advice to offering each other mutual long term support. Most of us have started in the morbid obese range or with a BMI in the high 30's (ish).
Everyone is welcome, regardless of where you are on your 'journey'. We have some inspiring stories. But also lots of us are muddling along, sometimes doing well and sometimes not so well.
We're all at different points. Some have lost lots of weight and are now maintaining. Others part way through a big weight loss and others starting out. We try to offer encouragement, congratulations or consolations where needed. We are respectful of different approaches and recognise that everyone has their own unique set of circumstances.

Not been on the thread for a few days.

@HerRoyalWitchyness I hope you're all doing ok! Hopefully everyone in the family is starting to recover now?

@alphaechokiwi sorry you're not feeling great about it. A STS can be disappointing, but it's not a bad result. Well done for keeping going!

@WeightlossKin it does seem strange to gain while losing inches! I'm sort of on your side with disregarding the scales in that instance! I hope things work out with the fertility referral - what happens if you can't get it in December?

@Zebracat how are you doing? How is your hip? And yes, if you're swimming that much and not eating afterwards that will surely help with weight loss. Accepting you'll stay the same for a few weeks is fine I think.

I actually weighed a couple of days ago - 85.7kg, which was a small loss. I've now met !y first mini goal. My next one is 81.4kg, which is 4.3kg away. I am hoping to get there by the end of the year. I know that's a little while away, but between now and then I have wedding anniversary with a week's annual leave and a trip to London, birthday and Christmas (obviously). So just trying to be realistic!

I have had some good stuff this week - I went swimming for the first time since getting covid, did 4 lengths which I'm delighted about! I know it's not much but I have been very ill for most of this year.

Also I found out that my GP practice recorded my height as 5'4, rather than 5'3! I was delighted! Haha! I feel like a giant (in a good way).

HerRoyalWitchyness · 07/11/2021 11:42

We're all getting there thanks.
I've STS this week but considering I've been too unwell to cook and we've lived off takeaways, I'm not going to complain

SnowyMouse · 07/11/2021 18:34

well done on the losses and STSs!

wombatsandweightloss · 08/11/2021 10:35

I’ve lost 1.7kg this week, so I’ve lost 14kg total now.

SnowyMouse · 08/11/2021 14:24

Well done @wombatsandweightloss !

wombatsandweightloss · 08/11/2021 14:27

Thanks

Zebracat · 09/11/2021 09:22

Hello @ScottishBeth, lovely to hear about your swim. I miss it so much, for mind and body..@HerRoyalWitchyness glad you are getting better. @wombatsandweightloss. Bloody hell! That’s so much to lose. Well done you.

WeightlossKin · 09/11/2021 11:28

@Zebracat swimming is such a good work out, as you say it makes sense with the amount you'd usually do that it makes a difference. Whilst I don't think exercise makes a difference to my weight loss exactly, it does give me the right state of mind to continue to commit if that makes sense? If I exercise I'm less likely to ruin all my effort by making the wrong food choices, so in that way I think exercise really helps. Well done on staying the same, it's so easy to gain that every STS should be celebrated!

@ScottishBeth December was the deadline I gave myself for my fertility referral so if it doesn't happen, I'll just have it in January when I reach my first target instead 😊 so the only downside is I wait a bit longer. If I don't get it before Christmas I'll definitely have to be 100% on it even on Christmas day but it is what it is! Congratulations on reaching your first mini goal and for getting back in the pool ⭐ that must feel great! I'd love for my GP to make me an inch taller 😂
@HerRoyalWitchyness I actually think STS when you've had so much going on with being poorly is an amazing achievement!
@wombatsandweightloss that's amazing! Well done 😊 14kg is so much and I'd be thrilled with 1.7kg in a week!

I got back from our mini break yesterday and straight back to healthier eating today. Won't be weighing in until SW on Monday evening to see the damage! 😬

wombatsandweightloss · 09/11/2021 12:01

Thanks guys, I’m super happy with my loss.

SnowyMouse · 09/11/2021 20:53

I lost 0.25 lbs:
SW: 14 stone 4
CW: 13 stone 9.25 (week 11, 9 nov, 0.25 loss)
GW: 13 stone 0 (Christmas)

WeightlossKin · 10/11/2021 07:17

Well done Snowy! I like the way you post your SW, CW and GW. It's a nice way to always see how far you've gotten 😊

SnowyMouse · 10/11/2021 15:40

Thanks @WeightlossKin, I like keeping track.

DaisyNGO · 10/11/2021 19:04

Hi all
Inspired by your action!
I have a minimum of 4 stone to lose
This would put me just at the top end of acceptable weight, I haven't done the BMI maths

Ideally I should lose 5 or 6 stone
I am short.

Before I say more, is it okay to join here or do people feel it's inappropriate? The I've ever done is half a pound a week.

WeightlossKin · 11/11/2021 10:23

Welcome @DaisyNGO!
I've still got another 3 stone to lose so you're not alone! 😊 If I didn't have to for my GP I'd never look at my BMI ever again! I average about 1lb a week, sometimes more and sometimes less so it balances out as this still.
What are you doing to achieve your weight loss, are you following a plan of any kind?

DaisyNGO · 11/11/2021 11:59

Thank you Weightlosskin

You've done so well, I'm impressed!

I'm planning on 16:8 as my body seems to work that way. Sugar is definitely my downfall so I'm aiming to control that. I'm not going to try to cut it out as last time I tried that, I just ate everything else and it made for a miserable fortnight and I didn't lose weight anyway, obviously.

I am not sure about the exercise. I'm a regular exerciser and it hasn't done anything to prevent me getting big. I don't drive at the mo, I always prefer walking as I hate public transport. That hasn't helped in any way either.

I have been doing shorter HIIT workouts but not sure if I'd be better losing weight first now as I am really feeling the extra weight even in normal daily life. I no longer enjoy HIIT or most exercise at this weight. The food factor seems to be more important in weight loss anyway.

What I'm hoping is to have a two week rotation meal plan and factor in a treat.

It seems like I am really big so should be able to lose more than a couple of pounds a week and there's six weeks before xmas....so hope not to look too awful on the day.

SnowyMouse · 11/11/2021 14:55

Good luck @DaisyNGO!

DaisyNGO · 12/11/2021 11:40

@SnowyMouse

Good luck *@DaisyNGO*!
Thank you Snowy!

Yesterday was okay.

SnowyMouse · 12/11/2021 12:47

I've lost a lb already, and don't weigh in until Tuesday!

DaisyNGO · 12/11/2021 13:55

@SnowyMouse

Ooh well done!
ScottishBeth · 13/11/2021 12:04

@HerRoyalWitchyness glad you are all getting better - hopefully by now you've all basically fully recovered. And a STS under those circumstances is very reasonable.

@wombatsandweightloss 14kg is amazing! Well done.

@WeightlossKin I can imagine that the delays are frustrating. But yeah, just keep on! You will get there!

Welcome @DaisyNGO glad you have joined us! I have just worked out I have about 3.5 stone to lose. And I'm sure regardless you won't look awful on Christmas Day! But it sounds like you have a sensible plan.

I had another STS this week, 85.7kg. I'm a little disappointed, but I had a sneaky weigh in mid week and was back to over 86kg due to some pizza. So I will take it! My wedding anniversary is this week, and we're having three nights in London, so I'm going to aim for another STS again. I'm going to enjoy my nice meals, but try really hard to be on it when we're not in London. I might postpone next week's weigh in till the Sunday as well! We're not getting back till Friday and I think Saturday might be too soon after all the rich food!

SnowyMouse · 13/11/2021 14:16

Sounds like you're having lovely times @ScottishBeth STS is good

DaisyNGO · 13/11/2021 20:46

What is STS please?

I have a streaming cold so that will put me off food for a couple of days at least ☹️

I have to miss mum's birthday meal but I suppose it saves calories! All jokes aside, I hate to miss her birthday but nothing to be done about it.

SnowyMouse · 13/11/2021 20:51

STS is stayed the same, so no gain, no loss. Hope you feel better soon @DaisyNGO

DaisyNGO · 13/11/2021 21:10

Thank you!

Ah, that makes sense.

wombatsandweightloss · 15/11/2021 16:23

I have lost 1.2kg this week. So that takes me over 15kg lost, yay.
