Mutual support thread for people with a lot of weight to lose. Part III

alphaechokiwi · 10/10/2021 18:29

This is a mutual support thread for people who have a lot of weight to lose. The original thread started with a poster who wanted to lose 9 stone and has evolved from diet advice to offering each other mutual long term support. Most of us have started in the morbid obese range or with a BMI in the high 30's (ish).
Everyone is welcome, regardless of where you are on your 'journey'. We have some inspiring stories. But also lots of us are muddling along, sometimes doing well and sometimes not so well.
We're all at different points. Some have lost lots of weight and are now maintaining. Others part way through a big weight loss and others starting out. We try to offer encouragement, congratulations or consolations where needed. We are respectful of different approaches and recognise that everyone has their own unique set of circumstances.

Hello. I am back again.

Starting again but really inspired by the stories on the thread.

104kgs this morning. Very unhappy with my size. It's my birthday in six weeks and I would like to be 99 kgs by then. I know it's a huge challenge but I need something to aim for.

Rebuildingconfidence · 29/10/2021 10:32

Sorry for the double post. Just checked and I have been away from this forum for five months, gained 4kgs since the last time I posted in May.

In that time I have however worked on other aspects of my health. I have been journalling every single morning and really worked through a lot of my issues, so my moods are much better, no more toxic stress and anxiety, I have been walking every morning (not this week due to half term) and massively improved my fitness and walking speed, and I have been focusing very much on good sleep patterns. I tend to get a decent seven hour sleep now every night and that has been life changing for me.

I had hoped these actions would result in weight loss but unfortunately not.

I am hoping that coming back here having done all this will mean that I am in a good place to now focus on getting the weight off.

Seriously in awe of the stories on here.

Welcome back @Rebuildingconfidence. We missed you. That sounds so sensible, , building a framework for a healthy life. I suffer dreadfully with insomnia, and I know that really affects my weight, the day after a bad night I get through on carbs and more carbs. I started the year at 105 kgs, got to 95, but I’m currently at 98, can’t be as active as usual and I’ve had a couple of holidays, but I really want to get under 95 by Christmas. I’ve had a good week, although it isn’t showing yet on the scales. We can do this!

Zebracat · 29/10/2021 14:39

And I love a double post!

Zebracat · 29/10/2021 14:41

Triple posts though are really bad form. But I did want to say that I try to keep posting even when becalmed , or worse sinking, as I think it helps to keep a record, and it helps me to not just think oh fuck it.

ScottishBeth · 30/10/2021 12:39

@Rebuildingconfidence welcome back! It's good to see you.

The changes you've made in the last few months sound really positive - so well done! I am sure they will make it easier to lose weight, and to stick to it. What methods will you be using to lose weight?

I was going to weigh myself this morning, however we had takeaway last night! We were going to have a treat meal tomorrow evening, so have just moved it forwards, so it's fine. But I'll just wait an extra day to hopefully get a more accurate picture!

HerRoyalWitchyness · 30/10/2021 12:40

I weighed this morning. After the last few days from hell and being due AF I've put on 5lb.

My days from hell include DS1 catching covid on his 13th birthday, then yesterday he had an asthma attack that required an ambulance to hospital. We only got home at 5.45 this morning. I'm exhausted and can't be bothered with anything. So don't is on hold today.

SnowyMouse · 30/10/2021 14:12

Hugs @HerRoyalWitchyness , sounds like you had enough to go through.

ScottishBeth · 30/10/2021 15:03

Oh @HerRoyalWitchyness that sounds awful! I hope your son is better now. Or I guess he still has covid, but hope that's not too bad from now.

WeightlossKin · 30/10/2021 17:33

@HerRoyalWitchyness sometimes other things really do take priority. Go easy on yourself. Wishing your son a speedy recovery ❤️

alphaechokiwi · 31/10/2021 06:42

@HerRoyalWitchyness sounds like a terrible few days. I hope your son is feeling betterFlowers
Welcome back @Rebuildingconfidence - I remember you from the last thread. It sounds like you are ready for this - wishing you lots of luck.
@ScottishBeth - I hope you enjoy your meal!
@Zebracat - I hope you are feeling a bit better this week?
I've put on 0.4kg this week. I wasn't expecting that. No real reason for it, hopefully just water retention or something and it will correct itself.

@HerRoyalWitchyness. That’s awful wishing teenwitchyness better soon. It is the beauty of a thread like this though that you can look back and see that your weight loss stalled, but also why. We all find it far too easy to blame it on laziness or lack of will power.
I’m still 98 kilos. Bit annoying but I know my eating is ok. Sure a change will come soon. Might just be that I need a poo!

HerRoyalWitchyness · 31/10/2021 10:07

And now I have covid! So diet is definitely on hold until I've recovered. I'll see where I stand then.

ScottishBeth · 31/10/2021 13:05

I weighed in at 86.3kg this morning - exactly the same as last week. I'm not too disheartened, had a couple more treats than was ideal, maybe.

@Zebracat - sometimes I try really hard to squeeze out a poo before I weigh myself! Doesn't always work, unfortunately.

@HerRoyalWitchyness oh no! I really hope you're not hit too hard with it.

Zebracat · 31/10/2021 16:59

I did try @ScottishBeth ! Staying the same with treats is as good as a loss, almost, we are all learning our limits.
So sorry @HerRoyalWitchyness.

Rebuildingconfidence · 31/10/2021 22:09

The thread is working its magic already, I went to the gym today! I did fifteen minutes on the treadmill and fifteen minutes on the cross trainer - had to start somewhere. Fingers crossed I can keep it up.

I know I can walk and cycle without the gym but the membership fee is like an extra motivator to actually go and get my money's worth.

alphaechokiwi · 01/11/2021 08:51

@ScottishBeth - a STS is a definite win!
@HerRoyalWitchyness I'm sorry to hear your update. Hopefully you will feel better soonFlowersFlowers
@Rebuildingconfidence I'm glad you had a good start at the gym. I always feel more positive and motivated after a bit of exercise. I had a very stressful day yesterday and can't wait for my swim after I do the school drop off this morning....

HerRoyalWitchyness · 01/11/2021 09:24

Well the entire family has covid. I now can't smell or taste which means I won't be snacking as I can't blooming taste it so it's pointless Grin

SnowyMouse · 01/11/2021 14:48

sorry to hear that @HerRoyalWitchyness, hope you all recover soon.

SnowyMouse · 02/11/2021 11:42

I've got my weekly weigh in:
SW: 14 stone 4
CW: 13 stone 9.5 (week 10, 2 nov, 0.75 loss)
GW: 13 stone 0 (Christmas)

alphaechokiwi · 02/11/2021 13:17

Excellent result.@SnowyMouse

Thanks! @alphaechokiwi

alphaechokiwi · 07/11/2021 08:14

Good morning everyone, I hope you've all had a good week. I've stayed the same this week. I feel a bit frustrated and becalmed.... But this is one of those mental situations I've tried to prepare for. What would my future self tell me to do? So I'm going to keep on going regardless.... Fingers crossed for some movement in the right direction next week.

OP posts:
WeightlossKin · 07/11/2021 09:59

Hi @alphaechokiwi! Sorry that you've stayed the same. Definitely keep going, 🤞 you'll see some movement next week. What you're doing must be healthier for you than the alternative of not trying, so even if the scales don't move it's not reflective of your overall health! Well done trying to keep a sensible mind about it.

I had a 1.5lb gain last week. I actually disagreed with the slimming world scales as I'd been so good and lost an extra inch around my hip and waist so the weight gain makes no sense so I didn't accept it (denial is where I am). I'm treating it as a stay the same as when I weighed at home two days later that gain was gone.

I'm no longer on track for my fertility referral before Christmas unless I manage a 4-6lb loss when I next weigh in, which I just won't as I'm currently away for the weekend batting my food demons. I am astonished by the lack of salad on every menu?
Hope everyone is getting on okay!

Zebracat · 07/11/2021 10:43

Another stayed the same for me. I’m still not allowed to swim. I have always felt that exercise is crucial to my weight loss, although I know that is not supposed to be so. But I m just going to see every STS as a win until I can get back in the pool. When I am swimming it is 50 minutes of front crawl 4 or 5 times a week, so it’s not surprising that it makes a difference.
