Mutual support thread for people with a lot of weight to lose. Part III

This is a mutual support thread for people who have a lot of weight to lose. The original thread started with a poster who wanted to lose 9 stone and has evolved from diet advice to offering each other mutual long term support. Most of us have started in the morbid obese range or with a BMI in the high 30's (ish).
Everyone is welcome, regardless of where you are on your 'journey'. We have some inspiring stories. But also lots of us are muddling along, sometimes doing well and sometimes not so well.
We're all at different points. Some have lost lots of weight and are now maintaining. Others part way through a big weight loss and others starting out. We try to offer encouragement, congratulations or consolations where needed. We are respectful of different approaches and recognise that everyone has their own unique set of circumstances.

@Fifi0102 Wow wow, my goodness me, haven't you done so well! You must be so proud of yourself.

I was startW 88kg, and am now at your GW 68kg. My threshold is not to go above 11st and since I've got to 68kg that works. I go up 4lbs after holidays, then lose 2 or 3 and that's fine, I stay below 11st.

I suppose for me... seeing that last stone to go actually in sight, it just spurred me on. So I upped all that I had done to get there. I cut out a treat or two (like instead of a drink and crisps every friday and Saturday, I had crisps just one night, whilst still having a drink!. It was a treat ritual I shared with DH)

And I upped my walking. I was doing 3miles a day 6 days a week. At least once a week I did 5 or 6 miles.

But the main thing for me was being able to get into clothes I love that I haven't worn for a very long time and I don't want to lose that.

Just well done you! 👏

I'm still trying to get back to my pre-hospital weight:

SW: 214 lbs
CW: 177 lbs (28 may)
GW: 144 lbs

Roussette · 28/05/2022 18:56

Keep going snowy Smile

SnowyMouse · 28/05/2022 20:35

Thanks, I'm trying to...if I lose a lb/week I'll be just into overweight rather than obese by September.

missg00se · 22/06/2022 20:29

How is everyone doing? I've hit such a wall and it's so depressing! I've changed things up and added more strenuous exercise into my routine and since then, not only have I put a kilo on in the first week, the scales have not budged since then. Four weeks with no change!

I do look different, I think. My husband has noticed a difference to my general shape, and clothes fit me that I couldn't get into a month ago so I'm trying not to get too hung up on the scales but it's hard not to. Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice/encouragement to offer?

For context I'm following WW and I'm not eating all my exercise points. Confused

Roussette · 22/06/2022 21:06

@missg00se

That is so depressing Sad

I have no words of wisdom except it's that damn plateauing. I think the feel and fit of clothes is so important so you are deffo on the right track there.

I have just back from being away for weeks eating and drinking for Britain and I am dreading getting on the scales to be honest because I know without fail I've put on weight.

I have a week and a half until a really special family occasion (DD and a special ceremony) and I am going to get a grip for 10 days and just hope for the best.

Good luck Smile

missg00se · 22/06/2022 21:28

@Roussette you never know! I did the same on a three week holiday in the spring but because I walked so much I came back exactly the same weight I left. Fingers crossed for you!

I am so frustrated it's unreal. Maybe I need to try and switch the diet up a bit as well. I'm in a bit of a rut with that too. Maybe eating different things might help. I don't know! Grasping at straws...

Good luck for your special day. I hope it's brilliant, no matter what you weigh!

Roussette · 22/06/2022 22:32

Thank you 🙂

If I want to give myself a boost and try and reset the weight, I do have a cutting down more than normal day.
I eat seperately to DH for that day, just to kick-start things and that does tend to work for me. I pick a day when it's not too strenuous or busy and if I think I'm going to snack, I go and do something like a long walk or some gardening

Rebuildingconfidence · 08/08/2022 09:57

Hello,

Just checking in. Back from a lovely holiday and CW is 95kgs. That's good though because in the last 3 months I've gone way up again so this is me back down. I did well on holiday walking loads and eating small amounts.

The urge to binge eat is strong.

How is everyone else doing?

Well done! It's hard when you're on holiday so that's excellent work.

I've just had my appendix out and I've not to do any strenuous exercise for six weeks. The only way I can lose any weight is by exercising all of the time so I'm feeling a bit down about what feels like the inevitable gain in coming weeks. Not to mention loss of the fitness that I'd worked bloody hard to get back after two previous operations and a long time off my feet as a result. Wallowing a bit if I'm honest!

snowymouse · 08/08/2022 20:32

Oh hugs @missg00se , I hope you feel better soon.

My WI is

SW: 214 lbs
CW: 168.75 lbs (8 aug)
GW: 144 lbs

Roussette · 08/08/2022 20:45

@missg00se Sorry to hear you're incapacitated, it's so much harder to do when you can't walk or exercise.

I'm still much the same, I've not seen my target weight since I reached it, but I'm managing to keep within 4lbs of it, so I'm just assuming that's OK! But I feel I have to keep checking.

I just feel like I want to eat eat eat!

@snowymouse
That is some loss, well done!

Ditto @Rebuildingconfidence especially with holidays which is my downfall

missg00se · 08/08/2022 22:24

Thanks @Roussette and @snowymouse. I just need to get on with it, it is what it is. Six weeks is nothing in the grand scheme of things. I am definitely wallowing, I just need to somehow wallow in the opposite direction to the biscuit tin for a bitConfused
