Mutual support thread for people with a lot of weight to lose. Part III

alphaechokiwi · 10/10/2021 18:29

This is a mutual support thread for people who have a lot of weight to lose. The original thread started with a poster who wanted to lose 9 stone and has evolved from diet advice to offering each other mutual long term support. Most of us have started in the morbid obese range or with a BMI in the high 30's (ish).
Everyone is welcome, regardless of where you are on your 'journey'. We have some inspiring stories. But also lots of us are muddling along, sometimes doing well and sometimes not so well.
We're all at different points. Some have lost lots of weight and are now maintaining. Others part way through a big weight loss and others starting out. We try to offer encouragement, congratulations or consolations where needed. We are respectful of different approaches and recognise that everyone has their own unique set of circumstances.

Hello!

29/10 104
28/11 103
9/12 101
18/12 101
2/01 99
31/01 97
20/02 96
21/03 95

Another kilo off. Very slow progress but the right direction. I definitely need to speed up the losses but I am just over the moon that I am continuing to lose.

If I keep going I will be under 15 stone soon.

Good luck everyone else.

Thejugglestruggle · 21/03/2022 13:01

2.5 lbs off for me this week (Saturday is my weigh day so posting a bit later).
I'm getting quite close to the 14s now, which I haven't been since early 2020; pre pandemic and pre second baby!
I'm 5lbs away from a 3 stone loss too so that's my focus over the next few weeks 🤞🏼
This lovely weather is making me feel grateful I decided to start losing when I did - hopefully by summer proper I'll be closer to where I want to be.
Hope everyone has a great week ahead x

Hello and welcome!

It's hard isn't it Confused and a constant battle of wills. I just kept trying on my clothes, that was my motivation. I have thin clothes, thinner clothes, average clothes, fat clothes and very fat clothes. It just kept me going to really want to be able to wear something I hadn't worn for years, and fitting into it.

And being able to walk much longer distances and up hills with ease. And walking much further than I could when I started.

I also think you have to break the losses up into manageable chunks, when I started I just could not think about the total loss I was aiming for, it was too scary. So I just aimed for the next stone marker.

Good luck and keep at it. 2 stone loss is brilliant![/quote]
Thanks so much. I totally missed your response but now I'm reading it it is good advice, thank you! Sorry for appearing rude, just life... as for the weight loss I've really upped my exercise game and the scales are currently very stubborn but my clothes are looser so I'm taking a bit of encouragement from that. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.

missg00se · 22/03/2022 23:34

Also @Thejugglestruggle thank you! Sorry it's taken me a while to respond. That's a really good way to look at it, hopefully I can keep the motivation going!

Roussette · 23/03/2022 15:54

Good luck everyone!

I'm in Spain at the moment (with the most dire weather!) and yesterday I walked 7 miles... the fact I almost got lost had something to do with it!

Good luck everyone Smile

ScottishBeth · 23/03/2022 16:23

@Zebracat it can be impossible to keep on top of things with a week like that! Fingers crossed for an STS. Sounds like you're feeling quite positive, anyhow? I hope so.

@Rebuildingconfidence my weight loss is very slow as well. Im sure if I was in SW or something they'd say I need to pick it up, but the fact is it doesn't matter what I weight in a month, it's about 1 year or 5 years from now. So well done!

@Thejugglestruggle (amazing name by the way!) that's a fantastic loss! Well done! Sounds like you're doing really well. Getting to the 14s and to a 3 stone weight loss will be big achievements.

@missg00se I missed your previous post and haven't said hello yet, so hello and welcome! Glad you are here and hope we can be of some support!

@Roussette hope you have an amazing time in Spain! Getting lost does help with walking distance!

I weighed myself this morning - 83.9kg, so I've already lost most of the weight I put back on while I was on holiday! So that's pleasing. It helps that yesterday I was working 11 hours, did 13000 steps, and really cut back my food. I have been trying using the long days to extend my fasting period, rather than get home at 8:45pm and have a meal, I just skip it!

Ages ago I set myself lots of mini targets to make things easier. The next one is 81.4kg, so it'd be nice to get that by the end of April, maybe? I don't know. I always set these targets and never reach them! But I don't have any major plans over the next month. And that's always what derails me.

A friend of !one was telling me recently that she's put on weight and now weighs 10 stone. I don't think I've weighed 10 stone since I was about 14, and she's taller than me too! I could see the funny side which is good, and thankfully she wasn't upset about it.

MedusasBadHairDay · 24/03/2022 12:11

Hi again, think I was last here in thread 1, but everything went a bit tits up for me when I broke my ankle last year, and the combination of not being able to exercise and comfort eating set me right back. Not quite to the biggest I've been, but certainly undid a lot of my good work.

So starting fresh.

I'm currently 14st 13lb, apparently high end of healthy weight is 8st 7lb for my height. So quite a way to go. But going to aim for 1lb a week, and try not to beat myself up or get discouraged if it doesn't happen.

Zebracat · 24/03/2022 21:21

Hi there @MedusasBadHairDay. I remember you. I’m back too after a just stopping because of back problems. Thought I was doing ok, but now I have my kitchen being refitted and shingles so I’m eating crap from Asda and I don’t even care.

Sometimes there's too much else going on to give headspace to this stuff. Hope you are feeling better soon x
Zebracat · 25/03/2022 11:14

Well, a doughnut and a custard tart isn’t my normal dinner, but what can you do? And I did stop there!

ScottishBeth · 27/03/2022 19:29

@MedusasBadHairDay I remember you! Lovely to have you back. Sory things have been a bit difficult, but hopefully you'll get the support you need. When there's a lot to lose its inevitable that it will be difficult at times. Just have to try not to get discouraged.

I've had a small gain since Wednesday - back up to 84kg this morning. That's only 100g more. But honestly I feel like I've been doing well with my eating, so I feel like I should have had a small loss. Maybe TMI ahead! I feel like I might be a little bit constipated at the moment, so hoping once that resolves I'll drop a few hundred grams!

Thistimealoserisagoodthing · 27/03/2022 20:51

Can I join please ?

I am sick of being fat , I want to wear nice clothes again and for food not to be my coping mechanism .

I have signed up to ww and starting tomorrow. Snacking and booze are my biggest issues .
I am going to weigh tomorrow and I am expect over 15 stone. I would love to be 11

Hi from a fellow ankle breaker DaffodilI sometimes feel like the phrase "broken ankle" really doesn't accurately convey how much my life changed, for the best part of two years (mine was complex). Anyway this isn't a pity party for me, I just wanted to say hi, and well done for getting back into it. It's hard going, but I'm so happy to be able to exercise again I mostly smile through the pain / mostly Wink
Roussette · 28/03/2022 07:09

Hi all and welcome @Thistimealoserisagoodthing

It's all gone a bit to pot here, DH has covid, the scales aren't working properly and I have a tooth abscess and I'm isolating with him. He's not eating much and got on the scales and they said he was 18stone. Bearing in mind he hovers around 13, I think they're broken!

I have to get a grip when we're back to normal

Thistimealoserisagoodthing · 28/03/2022 07:55

Thank you for the welcome @Roussette
Ouch at tooth absess!! I hope you have all the painkillers .
I have braved the scales and am now at 15.3 , I am comfy at 11 so have a way to go.
Plan today is lots of water, tuna salad for lunch and I made a lasagne yesterday so that will be for dinner.
My main meals are not normally the problem it is the ton of snacking in between. Really I should try and cut snacking out completely but I know that will set me up for a fail.
Good luck to all today.

Roussette · 28/03/2022 17:55

Good luck to you too!
I have painkillers but I'm away and just hoping it will recede.

Tuna salad has been my go-to lunch lots of times. I use a bit of that squeezy balsamic glaze stuff instead of dressing and that helps cos you don't need much to make it tasty

Wombatsandstuff · 01/04/2022 12:15

I’ve been awol, I’ve not lost anything in the past 3 months. I’ve actually gained about 1.5kg. I’m 1.1kg off going back over 160. Ahhhhhh. So frustrated. I just can’t seem to focus. I’m alone this week so it’s all gone to pot. Well Thursday through Wednesday. I’m determined to have lost weight next week. I weigh in on a Friday now. So I’ll update then.

Thejugglestruggle · 02/04/2022 07:35

Hello everyone 👋🏼

I've not posted in a couple of weeks but been keeping up with everyone's progress. Well done all for keeping on! It's a slog!

Since my last message, I've lost 5.5lbs. I'm thrilled with that as it means I'm into the 14 stone bracket for the first time in around 2.5 years. It also brings up my 3 stone weight loss. So a really big week for me.

I'm pretty sure next week and possibly the week after will be smaller losses as that tends to happen for me so need to make sure I stay motivated. Any tips for that on 'stay the same' weeks?!

Have a great week everyone, and let's hope this is the last of the cold weather!

Xx

ScottishBeth · 03/04/2022 11:10

@Thistimealoserisagoodthing welcome! I hope the first few days have been going ok!

@missg00se what you've said has just reminded me that a GP I know told me once that it can be really difficult to get back to everything after a broken ankle - something about it affecting your knowledge of where different bits of your body are in space. Have no idea why we were talking about this, but I hope you and @MedusasBadHairDay are both mostly recovered!

@Roussette I hope you and DH are both ok! Doesn't sound like you're having the best time of it! Bit hopefully you'll both recover quickly.

@Wombatsandstuff welcome back! Sorry you've had a gain, but these things happen! The important thing is that you've come back! Friday is a good day to weigh in (I like being able to relax a bit over the weekend).

@Thejugglestruggle well done! What a fantastic loss! In terms of tips for keeping going through stay the same weeks I'm not really sure. It is inevitable that you'll have a lot of those though, whener you've got a lot to lose, I think. Sometimes I just remind myself that I know I've been eating well, and it will be reflected on the scales soon.

Well I weighed myself yesterday and was down 100g to 83.9kg. Honestly I'm fairly convinced that this just proves that the week before my weight was artificially high! Between night shifts at the beginning of the week, and feeling emotionally a bit wobbly throughout, I have eaten terribly! Also haven't exercised as much as I intended. However. I will take the 100g loss, I went for a big hike yesterday, which definitely blew the cobwebs away. And even though I had a big pub meal afterwards, I don't think I massively overate if I look at the whole day. I don't have loads on over the next week, so should hopefully see a loss. Fingers crossed!

Thank you @scottishbeth
And well done on your loss too. Any loss should be celebrated 🎉
I'm a bit worried about this week. The fact I lost a lot last week means I'm pretty sure I won't lose much this week. Plus I'm feeling so tired this week and that always leads me to snacking more. I don't think I've over-eaten as such but just a lot of picking. I have managed to get out a couple of days this week for long walks and dodged the rain - but both kids have been ill so also a lot of inside time too.

EngelbertHumperdinck · 06/04/2022 15:28

Hello, I would like to join please. 200lb and just been told I am prediabetic. Big changes are in order. First goal is 196lb as that is 14 stone. I haven't dieted before (well, I'm not really dieting this time, just cutting out sugar and processed food and doing lowish carb) so we'll see how it goes. I'm on day 5 of no Coke and day 2 of a low impact HIIT video.

Roussette · 06/04/2022 17:26

Welcome @EngelbertHumperdinck

It sounds like you're on the right track, good luck

I've got covid so it's all gone a bit to pot here.

I'm fine but energy levels are depleted for now and I just can't do it properly. Hopefully on the tail end of it and then I'll concentrate again!
My DH got it and lost his appetite for days
Not me!

SnowyMouse · 06/04/2022 19:49

I've just come out of hospital after 6 weeks. I put on 12 lbs whilst I was in Sad

Just got back to calorie counting...

Roussette · 06/04/2022 20:05

Oh @SnowyMouse, so sorry to hear that

Hope you're feeling better Smile

SnowyMouse · 06/04/2022 20:09

Thanks, I am feeling better.
