Mutual support thread for people with a lot of weight to lose. Part III

alphaechokiwi · 10/10/2021 18:29

This is a mutual support thread for people who have a lot of weight to lose. The original thread started with a poster who wanted to lose 9 stone and has evolved from diet advice to offering each other mutual long term support. Most of us have started in the morbid obese range or with a BMI in the high 30's (ish).
Everyone is welcome, regardless of where you are on your 'journey'. We have some inspiring stories. But also lots of us are muddling along, sometimes doing well and sometimes not so well.
We're all at different points. Some have lost lots of weight and are now maintaining. Others part way through a big weight loss and others starting out. We try to offer encouragement, congratulations or consolations where needed. We are respectful of different approaches and recognise that everyone has their own unique set of circumstances.

Wow GBBT that is so encouraging, well done!
It also helps to spur me on when I've had a loss, onwards and upwards!

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 27/02/2022 14:55

Thanks @Roussette does give me a confidence boost Smile

Adm1010 · 01/03/2022 07:09

So week 2 .

2 off . Total loss 5 pound.

16 8 is a revelation to me . It genuinely does not feel like I’m dieting and I have not deprived myself at all !!!

The aim this week is to up my veg intake . And move more . My step count is woefully low still . My job has long hours and is pretty sedentary . So it’s a challenge

Roussette · 02/03/2022 22:59

Well done @Adm1010

That's great news.
And yes to 16/8. For me it was all about saving myself for the meal(s) I really enjoyed, light lunch and dinner in the evening.

I'm so glad it's working for you. 2lbs is great. Have you got anywhere like an app just for logging your weight? Because it's great to see a downward graph, it spurred me on!
The free MyFitnessPal is good, you can ignore all the rest of it, I just wrigh once a week and log it.
Today was not a good day eating wise for me, but I went and looked at my graph to see how far I've come and I will be determined again tomorrow!

Adm1010 · 05/03/2022 06:33

Hi I’ve been logging weight on MFP and also got the body fast app

I think soon I’ll have to look at calories during my window but not yet .

Thejugglestruggle · 05/03/2022 07:38

Hi ladies,

Please could I join you all? I've been reading some of the older posts and wow, some amazing stories and achievements!

I started my new healthy eating plan on 1st Jan 2022 (total cliché!)

I started out at 17 stone 12 pounds. My heaviest ever weight and a BMI of just under 40. My weight had been creeping up the last few years with the pregnancies of both of my children, and the pandemic.

I just weighed this morning and I'm now 15 stone 8 pounds and a new BMI of 34 - which I'm so, so proud of.

I've been doing low sugar, high protein and it seems to be working. I've also been sticking to around 1300/1400 calories a day and have been logging everyday in MFP.

My goal weight is 11st 7lbs so around 4 stone to go. Trying not to focus on that big scary number though and setting myself smaller targets for now. Next goal is 14st 12lbs which will bring up a 3 stone loss.

Have a great day everyone 💞☀️

Roussette · 05/03/2022 07:39

I did look at calories for the first few months because I was out of control to be honest. But now @Adm1010, I just can't. Unless I'm curious about the calories in any particular item. Then I just scan the barcode and it tells me. (For instance, my favourite mince pies over Christmas were 346 each!)

Could you tell me what app you have for body fast?

Roussette · 05/03/2022 07:45

@Thejugglestruggle

Well done! You have every right to be proud. And welcome! I so agree with smaller targets. I used MFP and my smaller targets were to get to the next stone marker and below it. That really worked for me. It would be so exciting to get on the scales (I only weighed weekly) and see 12stone something not 13 stone something. And then that made me stay on the 12, if that makes sense!

Also what spurred me on was putting on some item of clothing that had been tight... and it wasn't! I just loved that 😂🤣
I think we all agree it's what in the head that matters, it really is... so all these little milestones just work.

Aw thank you ❤️
Yes, I'm weighing weekly too. In the past I have been obsessed weighing daily and it wasn't healthy for me (I know it works for others though).
Absolutely re the non weight goals like clothing. I'm just starting to get back into my biggest clothes pre pregnancy (nothing has fit since I've had my youngest!)

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 06/03/2022 09:26

Week 2- 8oz lost (total 6lb 12oz)

Really disappointed as stuck to plan and felt like work dress was looser.

Roussette · 06/03/2022 10:41

Sometimes it's all about water retention and you will reap the benefits of sticking to plan I'm sure!
There were many weeks I only lost half a pound and thought 'what's the point'... but I caught up and lost more later on.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 06/03/2022 15:21

@Roussette thanks, I hope so. I’m going to keep on keeping on and hope the scales are kinder next week Flowers

missg00se · 08/03/2022 19:06

Hello, can I join you? I am 2st down, 7 to go and I am really struggling with motivation. I know when you have a lot to lose it takes longer to show, because you can lose quite a lot and still be technically very obese but I feel like I'm working so hard and have not very much to show for it! Sure, my clothes are a bit less tight but I'm still wearing the same size, I don't feel like I look any better and generally I'm losing the will a bit. Maybe I'm just having a bad day but it's getting harder and harder to stay motivated. The numbers on the scale are all very well and they are heading in the right direction but they aren't necessarily a motivating factor in and of themselves. How do you maintain motivation to keep going with slow and steady loss over a long time? I don't want to fall off the wagon but honestly at the moment every day feels like a battle of wills, with myself Sad

Roussette · 08/03/2022 21:28

@missg00se

Hello and welcome!

It's hard isn't it Confused and a constant battle of wills. I just kept trying on my clothes, that was my motivation. I have thin clothes, thinner clothes, average clothes, fat clothes and very fat clothes. It just kept me going to really want to be able to wear something I hadn't worn for years, and fitting into it.

And being able to walk much longer distances and up hills with ease. And walking much further than I could when I started.

I also think you have to break the losses up into manageable chunks, when I started I just could not think about the total loss I was aiming for, it was too scary. So I just aimed for the next stone marker.

Good luck and keep at it. 2 stone loss is brilliant!

It's so hard isn't it, when we've got a lot to lose.
I'm 2 and a bit down as well, with a fair way to go still.
At the moment I'm using smaller goals and giving myself a non food related treat like a cinema trip or some nice make-up or skincare when I reach the goal. It's something to aim for and breaks up the weeks into manageable chunks I find.
The goals I'm using are things like getting into a pair of jeans (I have a range of sizes lol), getting down a full point on the BMI scale, reaching the next half stone marker...things like that.

And just to say well done you for reaching two stone. Even if others aren't noticing quite yet, think what 28lbs of sugar looks like (and weighs!) It's a huge achievement and you should be so proud of yourself. If nothing else, not having those 28lbs on you is already doing wonders for your health.

Thejugglestruggle · 12/03/2022 06:53

Weigh-in day today and I've lost 3 pounds. Really happy with that, as felt a bit 'off' this week.
Hope everyone has had a good week x

Roussette · 13/03/2022 08:22

@Thejugglestruggle

3lbs is awesome! What a boost for you.

I'm just 'maintaining' really now, which isn't 100% easy, but that has always been my problem. I have to get out the mindset slowly but surely, of 'ok, I've lost the weight, now I can reward myself with food'!

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 13/03/2022 08:53

Really deflated….1/2lb loss again this week sad
I’ve stuck to plan, not sure where I’m going wrong.
I’m trying to have a healthy relationship with food and stop the binge starve cycle but this just makes me want to cut back to one meal a day again ( and then I’ll fall of the wagon because I’m starving)

Roussette · 13/03/2022 09:32

Awww I feel for you, I know that feeling. Either not lost a thing or just half a pound.

BUT you have to think it is a loss even if it isn't the loss that you want. Hard I know...

Yes, almost harder not to see the weight go down and have that loss motivate you. But amazing you've got to where you want to be, well done 👏

Roussette · 13/03/2022 09:49

Thank you Smile

(I would actually still like to lose a bit more to give me a buffer but it just isn't happening, even when I have a really careful week, so perhaps this is my natural weight or something!)

Zebracat · 14/03/2022 12:14

Hello everyone. I haven’t posted since November. Afraid I’ve been out of control. I now weigh 105 kgs, from about 97 when I last came here. I want to stamp my feet and say it’s not my fault, because my hip problem spread to my knee and my foot and my back, and I have barely been able to move, but I lay on the sofa stuffing my face and feeling sorry for myself, and an extra 8 kilos is not helping my joints at all.
I ntendto spend the next week taking stock, eating more mindfully, upping my activity and reading about why we eat too much.. I need to start swimming again , but I have to start with 10 minutes and it seems a lot of faff for little reward, but it’s a little step towards better.
We have the family coming for a big birthday at the weekend so I want to clean and garden, which may be the kickstart I need.
I have caught up on the thread! Delighted to see our new posters and to hear that old friends are doing so well. I think I need to be about 70 kilos so quite a long way to go. All suggestion# and motivational ideas gratefully received.

Roussette · 14/03/2022 12:39

@Zebracat

I feel for you, I know what it's like to lose then gain more then start again, it's HARD.

Just a small loss can maybe kickstart it all again for you, I do hope your health is improving, because dealing with that at the same time as this is tricky.

Am on my mobile so can't type much bit good luck to you, keep on keeping on

ScottishBeth · 19/03/2022 13:50

I've not been on the thread for a couple of weeks, so sorry about that. Hope everyone is doing well! @Zebracat glad to have you back - I've missed you. Sorry things have been so difficult, and that has resulted in a gain for you.

I can't exactly remember what I weighed when I last posted, but at my lowest I was 83.5kg. I've been on holiday for the past week. And been enjoying lots of food! So this morning I was 84.9kg. I was expecting a gain after the holiday, and am pleased it wasn't too big. Hopefully most of it will come off in the next week.

Zebracat · 20/03/2022 19:50

Aw thanks @Roussette and @ScottishBeth. It’s nice to be back. I’ve been weighing daily this week to get a benchmark and it’s all over the place. I have been much more active and much less snarky, but we’ve alsohad a birthday and lots of party food, so at 1 point I had lost 2 kilos but would be happy with a STs.
I am really happy to be back here!
