Mutual support thread for people with a lot of weight to lose. Part III

This is a mutual support thread for people who have a lot of weight to lose. The original thread started with a poster who wanted to lose 9 stone and has evolved from diet advice to offering each other mutual long term support. Most of us have started in the morbid obese range or with a BMI in the high 30's (ish).
Everyone is welcome, regardless of where you are on your 'journey'. We have some inspiring stories. But also lots of us are muddling along, sometimes doing well and sometimes not so well.
We're all at different points. Some have lost lots of weight and are now maintaining. Others part way through a big weight loss and others starting out. We try to offer encouragement, congratulations or consolations where needed. We are respectful of different approaches and recognise that everyone has their own unique set of circumstances.

Thank you, i wish I’d tried to use it when I first started just to see how off it was but oh well. But I’ve still got a ton to lose so I’ve got plenty of results to see lol.

Roussette · 04/01/2022 16:49

Snowy That's brilliant. I love it when I reach a stone milestone.

I weighed this morning, just to keep on track, and I've dropped 1/4lb below my milestone, so need to keep groing, so I can get back to mid December weight.

Winter is no good for me, I crave lots of mash and comfort food Shock

SnowyMouse · 04/01/2022 17:41

Thanks @Roussette , I'm pleased. Well done on dropping below your milestone!

alphaechokiwi · 05/01/2022 13:25

I was inspired by @Roussette to have a look back through my photos. The 'before' here is me at about 110kg and the 'nearly there' is today at about 79kg. There's about 14 months between these photos. I thought I'd post them in case they helped anyone. Although wanting to look better in my clothes was a strong motivation for me when I started, it's actually the huge benefit to my quality of life that has kept me going...the new found energy, running for the bus, playing with the kids etc.
I had a non scale victory yesterday, I took the stairs to the 11th floor, at quite a quick pace, I wasn't winded and my knees were fine!!! I struggled at home with the stairs before....

Those are great before/after photos, you can really see the difference! @alphaechokiwi Well done on your NSV!

Rebuildingconfidence · 05/01/2022 18:40

@alphaechokiwi love the progress pictures, well done!

I've started tracking my food with mfp. A bit frightening as I am a high volume eater. I am at my calorie limit for the day already so a bit nervous as to how I will make it through my danger time which is the evening.

But I am determined and motivated!

alphaechokiwi · 05/01/2022 19:04

@Rebuildingconfidence I found MFP really useful. It really gave me insight into how many excess calories I was consuming. It's quite easy to over eat / underestimate calories. My main issue was is portion size. I hope you find it as helpful as I have.

@alphaechokiwi

Wow wow wow!
What a massive change! You must feel marvellous. I don't know about you... but I lost lots off my boobs and I love that. I always felt I had a shelf there lol. And they just made me look huge. I have dropped from something like a 40C or 38DD to 36B or C, and it's made a huge difference to the clothes I wear. (they are a bit like a couple of boiled eggs in a pair of socks but hey ho, with the right bra they're OK!)
You look great!

*Rebuilding! MFP really helped me. I did it for about 6 months. I've stopped now because I basically have re-educated myself a bit. For instance... the mince pies I like are 346 calories each!
I was on 1,200 calories so that was a big chunk.
Good luck with it.

I still use it for tracking my weight.

alphaechokiwi · 05/01/2022 19:33

@Rebuildingconfidence yes, I've lost lots off my boobs. It does make a huge difference. I feel a lot less matronly. I had treatment for breast cancer a few months before I started losing weight so my poor boobs have been through the mill over the past 2 years. I'm planning a fitting and to buy a lovely bra at Rigby & Peller as a treat to myself for my milestone birthday this year.

OP posts:
Roussette · 05/01/2022 19:41

What a wonderful present to yourself!

Matronly, that's just the word. I'm happy not to be hoiking them up anymore!

Rebuildingconfidence · 07/01/2022 09:33

Third day of using MFP. Day 1 was easy, day 2 I went about 800 calories over, now on day 3.

I'm not that bothered about yesterday as I think MFP has set my calorie limit very low for my size (just over 1500 cals) and my previous intake was at least double that as I would eat without thinking.

At least now I am monitoring what I eat so hopefully that will result in some weight loss.

Roussette · 07/01/2022 11:35

Oh yes Rebuilding. Monitoring it is half the battle. It meant I had to think about what I was chomping down on! It's like someone sat on your shoulder saying 'do you really want that, or do you want to wait until dinner'.
It helped me a lot.

SnowyMouse · 07/01/2022 17:08

I use MFP too, it's really useful to stop myself going over my calorie count, I mostly stick to it.

ScottishBeth · 08/01/2022 17:52

@alphaechokiwi your progress pictures are amazing! Well done! You are so close! And I am so impressed about 11 floors! I'm feeling a bit lightheaded just thinking about that.

Getting a proper bra fitting at Rugby and Peller sounds like a lovely treat for yourself!

I've lost 0.6kg this week. I'm a bit disappointed as I was less on Wednesday than I am today, but not by much, so I think that's fine. And 0.6kg in a week is a decent loss. So 85.6kg this morning.

SnowyMouse · 08/01/2022 19:46

well done on your loss @ScottishBeth!

alphaechokiwi · 08/01/2022 19:56

Thank you @ScottishBeth and we'll done on your 0.6kg x

Well done Scottish any loss is a good loss!

Me and DH have just eaten an enormous curry. Biryani, samosas, dhal etc.
We're a bit hungover after a night out last night, and curry just hits the spot.
I don't hold out any hope for a loss when I weigh on Thurs/Friday Shock

ScottishBeth · 08/01/2022 20:23

Thank you all. I am pleased, really. Was just hoping for a bit more.

@Roussette that curry sounds good, and perfect for a hangover. But Thursday is still a while away. So I'll keep my fingers crossed for a loss for you.

Roussette · 08/01/2022 20:34

Thank you Scottish, that's kind of you, fingers x'd!

I just think there's no rhyme nor reason to it sometimes. I've had a good week, expecting a better loss... nah... doesn't happen.;

Then I have a week where it's been okayish... and I'm pleasantly surprised.
It's all down to hormones and metabolism or summat Grin

alphaechokiwi · 11/01/2022 11:33

Hope you are all doing well this week. I'm (rather disappointingly) still up on my pre Christmas weight.... I really did overdo it 😂. But I'm back on track and have a plan for the next few months, so optimistic of hitting my goal in time for that long bank holiday for the platinum jubilee in June!

OP posts:
wombatsandstuff · 11/01/2022 12:40

I am only down 200g since before Christmas, but was back on it at the gym yesterday. So hopefully next week should show some good loss.
