I have decided to try and sort myself out. I am fat, frumpy and so so fed up.

It is just over 14 weeks until Christmas, I am hoping to lose a stone by then. Surely I can manage to lose 1lb per week.

Anyone want to join me, I realise this is short notice!

Grin Grin
Well done @BasicMadeira @Hartleyhare1206 we are all in better shape.
Happy Christmas to all. See you in January.
New year for you, new decade for me Grin

Hartleyhare1206 · 24/12/2021 16:13

🤣🤣 @Mum5net that’s made me laugh!

Mum5net · 29/12/2021 18:39

Pretty special day all round yesterday. Family smashed it. And got a walk on the beach. DP, unknown to me, for the last ten years has been saving £40 a month and presented me with £4K to celebrate with a holiday. So trying to decide between going somewhere faraway or a few shorter trips. Fabulous problem to have. And weighed in on big day at 59.6 even though I wasn’t going to bother.

BasicMadeira · 29/12/2021 21:41

Ahhh brilliant @Mum5net ! That's an amazing present. What a thoughtful DH.
Wishing you all the wonders and fabulous holidays you can possibly have 💐

Mum5net · 03/01/2022 09:30

HNY22 chums!
That’s me returning for duty. Weighed in at 60.5 kg. Would like to get to 57 point anything so another 7lb to go. Empty nest from today again so that’s reason enough to hit the snacks. Rained so much here that walking outdoors not an option. And smile …Grin

BasicMadeira · 04/01/2022 21:49

Happy New Year everyone. Me signing in at 177.6lb. Aiming for 170 obv. Going to use St Patrick's day (17th of March) just over ten weeks away as my goal date. Easter is just a little far away for me.

Mum5net · 06/01/2022 13:32

Here’s a thing. weigh yourself. Have a bath for 15 mins. Get dry, then weigh again. My research suggests I am always 0.1 kg lighter.
Now going to have ten baths a day and eat lots of creme eggs.

Hey everyone, happy new year to you all! Hope you enjoyed the festivities?
Have you decided on your holiday/s yet @Mum5net? What a wonderful gift!
I’ve had a very calorific Christmas and new year😳 not helped by loads of my family getting covid over Xmas and family gatherings being cancelled meaning the tonnes of food already ordered, and too late to cancel, ended up being shared out amongst us at both Xmas and new year. Feel like I’ve eaten party food for about two weeks straight! Oh and the cheese! I swear if you cut me open I’d ooze ripe Brie! Then the big birthday came along…more chocolate for gifts, cake, meals out with separate people rather than just going out for one big blow out….wonderful but extremely indulgent, and right on top of Xmas and new year too.
But still, we are where we are and I need to draw a line under it and make a fresh start, so here I am. Reporting for 2022 lard shifting duty! Be kind to me, I’m already feeling ginormous. My jeans feel tight and I’m living in leggings and hoodies. My cousin actually asked me if I was wearing them because I’d just been for a run 😂😂😂😂 funny!

Have set myself the target of walking at least 3.5 miles a day in January so this week I’m aiming to stick to that plus getting back in to an 8 hour eating window/two meals a day. Plus obviously trying not to eat any crap. Basically get back to what I was doing before Christmas.

It really feels like a daunting prospect for some reason but I absolutely don’t want to keep eating this much and get even fatter I want to feel as good about myself as I did before Xmas. I’ll also make those bloody scales start with an “11” if it kills me!!

Mum5net · 13/01/2022 14:14

@Hartleyhare1206 @BasicMadeira Good we're all back for a new year. Definitely strength in numbers. Hopefully in three months... lower numbers. My discipline is gone. Am wavering up and down. Would be better if I was actually walking up and down and sticking to my window but my windows are stretching out like a full size Kirstie & Phil bi-fold door and we have way too many chocolate treats in the house. The dog is going away for a week;'s break on Friday night so with luck i will be able to concentrate without a constant whine or bark.

Hartleyhare1206 · 14/01/2022 14:46

Love the bi-fold door analogy @Mum5net - I’m a die hard phil and kirstie fan! 🤣🤣
January is so hard to diet in, isn’t it? We can do it though, I know we can. We did so well towards the end of last year, it would be silly to lose it now!
I’ve had a decent few days food and exercise wise - planned to weigh tomorrow but period started unexpectedly early and I’m so bloated and full of water…I’m going to leave the weigh in for another week as I don’t think it will be reflective of my efforts and skewed by the bloat - don’t want to demotivate and demoralise myself in week one!!

Mum5net · 14/01/2022 16:44

@Hartleyhare1206 Yes, we need to buckle down and try not to be distracted. In the circumstances, I’d skip the weigh in as well. This morns I was back on the 61- so 3 lb heavier. My steps are up from the last two weeks but from 3pm I just graze. Several eBay fails will have to be resold. My run of savvy purchases came to a swift end.
This weekend I also need to start the big declutter. Apparently the best place to start across a whole house is your wardrobe. Wish me luck. Ps no big holiday destination yet but might go for weekend to Malaga in March / April if restrictions allow

BasicMadeira · 15/01/2022 13:04

Good luck with the declutter @Mum5net I live for a good sort through and sort out! A Loc, lox, lox fan here too so keep the Phil n Kirstie references coming.
Definitely don't demotivate yourself in week 1 @Hartleyhare1206 just remember to drink even more water to help your body let go of what it is holding.
I have not had a good week; too much chocolate and not enough steps. However I have just today acquired a cross trainer. It's all set ready to go! Apparently this is what I have needed to release my inner supermodel.

Mum5net · 15/01/2022 13:22

Lost a kg overnight. No idea how .
Have got hold of the declutter bible called The Art of Swedish Death Cleaning by Margaretta Magnussen. It’s brilliant. It’s all about giving away your stuff while you are living and points out how much time you save by not dealing with full drawers, shelves all the time. Perfect present for someone way younger than me but also for your parents. Wish mine had blooming read it.
A few eBay parcels arrived - latecomers after my self imposed ban. Can I just say I got the most amazing tweed suit by Boden for £20. New would have been £300. Wore tha jacket with jeans to the supermarket. Will try harder at weight loss as it is fun to get new stuff

Mum5net · 15/01/2022 13:23

And wow @BasicMadeiraat the cross trainer. That’s a brilliant move. Hope it’s fun as well Grin

Mum5net · 18/01/2022 23:34

So the kg I lost overnight at the weekend has been found. Attached to me. Yo-yo.
Had a pretty rubbish evening trying to get to grips with my knee exercises. I just am so unco-ordinated but one positive is that even if I tone up just a little it will make a big difference. Sad. Hoping my pals are faring better with walking and discipline and cross training

BasicMadeira · 19/01/2022 08:59

As long as the kg did not invite its family along @Mum5net !
I am having a bad time of it- just not there mentally. Walking a lot and using the cross trainer so it's not calories out it is undeniably the amount I am eating. Am in a muddle. Will get there but am trying to "be kind" to myself

Hartleyhare1206 · 19/01/2022 09:26

Morning chaps,
I feel like a big fat bloated whale. It doesn’t seem to want to budge. Am too scared to weigh until that’s shifted for fear of thinking “fuck it” and eating half the local co-op in one sitting 😩
I’m sticking to healthy eating and walking loads (3.5-6 miles a day) which I’m glad about mentally as I’m one of those people that seriously benefits from a good blast of fresh air and exercise. Just wish my arse and thighs were seeing as positive an impact as my head 🤣🤣🤣

Sounds like we are all off to a bit of a bumpy start. Probably to be expected but I’m sure we can get it back on track. Some brilliant habits forming with exercise, and totally agree about being kind to ourselves.
Am cross I put on so much during that month of diet skiving - it’ll take way longer than a month to undo all that damage. Doesn’t seem fair really!

Mum5net · 19/01/2022 10:10

Serious question @Hartleyhare1206. The stuff you ate for a month? Did you actually do it because you enjoyed it or did you eat it up because you were allowed to and did so simply because you could?
I had that discussion with myself over Xmas and realised I was eating more just because I could.

Hartleyhare1206 · 19/01/2022 10:43

@Mum5net bit of both! and some just unfortunate circumstances - Christmas, DD birthday and my birthday all within 3 weeks is a recipe for disaster food wise isn’t it?

Mum5net · 19/01/2022 15:50

@Hartleyhare1206 Three weeks is very difficult. We just have a busy week with the 25th, the 28th and the 1st. Much easier to ring fence.
My problem is I have introduced two foods back into my daily life which I had discarded. A local morning roll called a butterie and creme eggs. I haven't found the willpower to banish them again but I think I have to go cold turkey and just deal with it. Portion sizes have crept back up to two servings for dinner @BasicMadeira Being kind to yourself is vital. If you can just maintain while you find your feet then that is something to cheer about and a big positive. The losing can come later when you are stronger

Hartleyhare1206 · 22/01/2022 10:38

5.4lbs off in the last two weeks. Expecting that to be back to limping along at 0.5lbs a week like pre Christmas from now on, but all going in the right direction.
I have literally walked miles this week. My legs ache and I could murder a toasted teacake slathered in proper butter. Trying to ignore and think of something hearty/comforting for tea that is low fat/calories but will fill me up and stop me fantasising about forbidden fruits!
Any ideas or suggestions for me?
Eat most things (hence me being on here in the first place 😂) not keen on pork or olives! Go….

Mum5net · 22/01/2022 14:54

@Hartleyhare1206 Get you! 5.4 lbs is amazing! What a great start. I guess when you are out walking as much there can be no snacking. Really well done, will try and follow your lead and walk more.
Ideas - this is dead easy - large piece of smoked fish per person, so normally haddock. Put it in an oven proof dish and cover it with 1 cm of orange juice from a carton from the fridge. Cover it with a handful of mature cheddar. Cook under grill or in oven for 10-12 mins until fish cooked,. Serve with big plate spinach and broccoli. Only bad calories is the cheese. You can also serve with pasta but I skip that when watching weight.
Other idea is literally take a dozen large vine tomatoes (about kg) and chop em all up. (I skin them but you don't have to) add the tomatoes to one large onion and two cloves garlic which you have already reduced and softened with some oil. Just cook the tomatoes, onion and garlic down (Leave it Grin) for about an hour until it is a gorgeous tomato sauce. Serve that over a small amount of pasta with an accompanying mound of green veg. It's Delia's tomato sauce recipe.
Normally do those once a week each. l also serve the tomato sauce over any white fish so tilapia or sea bass or whatever with pasta and the green veg

BasicMadeira · 23/01/2022 20:41

@Hartleyhare1206 a handy one that works for me in that it is very filling and tastes define without being too calorific is leeks (3) sliced thinly, 25g butter, black pepper and just slowly cooked over a low heat. They just soften and ooze ans you get a lot of volume for your money. Obv you would want to like leeks and butter.
Great, healthy positive mind set day today. Best of luck @Mum5net @Hartleyhare1206

Hartleyhare1206 · 24/01/2022 12:38

Ooh @Mum5net that tomato sauce with fish or pasta sounds divine, will add that on to my go-to list of meals for sure - love fish and tend to have it quite a lot on Saturday nights as we eat without DD (ie get to eat whatever we like without it having to be little child friendly!!) it sounds very Mediterranean and I bet it would be nice with some new potato’s roasted with garlic and herbs?
I opted for a chicken leak and mushroom “pie” in the end (so confirming I do indeed like leaks @BasicMadeira!) made the sauce with quark and topped with filo pastry as it so much lighter in fat and calories. Served with roasted butternut squash and broccoli - was fab. Very filling which was what I needed! Was flipping ravenous on Saturday for some reason!
Had a cheeky G&T with it, but only had a half measure of gin and slimline tonic so would have been around 70 Cals - not a huge drinker so having a half measure of spirit doesn’t bother me, it was more for the taste as I just really fancied one!
Didn’t walk masses over the weekend which is unusual for me - averaged 17,000 over Saturday and Sunday 😢
Attempted to make up for it today and nailed my 10,000 steps by 11am with a combo of my school run walk and a good dog walk - 75 mins in total and obviously have the rest of the days usual running around, and school pick up so hoping to finish on 15,000 today.
Mission for this week? Less coffee more water. Realised last week I was drinking 2.5l + a day but about 1.5l of that was coffee 😮😮 no sugar and have just a splash of skimmed milk so not awful diet wise, but pretty sure cutting out the caffeine will do me good and pure water will help me de-bloat better!
Has anyone else got a specific goal for the week? Also, any more great meal ideas to share? I love discussing food and am always looking for new ideas to try 😋😋
