@MissC07 very jealous of all that cheese 👀

Speaking of cheese, @Kay00 have you had your cholesterol tested? I have high cholesterol for a fairly young and not that overweight person. I was tested for familial hypercholesterolaemia and it came back negative, which was great but also odd because my mother has it too, and has had it for ages. Turns out it’s another pco/s thing and I had no idea. Kinda wish someone had suggested that in my 20s when I first realised it was high for my age and weight.

@Juno231 the water thing is really interesting. We nearly were moving to a soft water area and I still want to once this is all sorted. I am looking forward to seeing if any of my reactive immune system conditions respond well when we do move. Water is just not something that would even cross my mind as a trigger.

@Kay00 that’s a shame, it’s really not good for your self confidence sometimes. I’m lucky that it was mostly ok for me in my 20s and up until the last couple of years. It’s really debilitating and I don’t think a lot of medics take it seriously enough really.

Deliveroo chicken sounds very good. I am on my own all weekend and it’s potentially an issue. Husband doesn’t eat meat, I do, but nothing often. I have already had meat, I will probably have more yet lol. Made wholewheat penne pasta with spinach, sundried tomato and nduja for lunch. Forgot to weight it, I guessed the quantity of pasta for my app. Not sure about dinner, but breakfast was cereal because I needed to use up some milk before it goes off.

@Kat668 well done on the loss!

Kay00 · 13/08/2021 21:48

@thislittlebird hmm... no, I have never even thought about my cholesterol before. I'll do some research... is there anything else that might indicate it I'd high?

I had a work social tonight, it was a lot if fun and I took my dogs along too. But... I had a couple of glasses of wine and I feel a bit sick now. I didn't eat a great deal of food I suppose (I had ham, eggs and chips, but I only ate a couple of chips), or perhaps its the wine + Metformin. Either way... Burgh.

Kat668 · 13/08/2021 22:37

@thislittlebird love nduja! Sounds like a delish lunch :D

@Kay00 sorry you feel unwell :( hopefully it is just the mix and it'll go away soon!

Juno231 · 16/08/2021 08:03

Well ladies, AF is in the house. CD1 today. I'm glad as last week was such a write off diet wise, I was just hungry all the time! Hopefully this means I can get back on it properly this week.

I'll weigh in tomorrow as I think I'm carrying a bit of extra water weight today 😅

ChinChilly · 16/08/2021 08:13

@Juno231 it's always good when you can blame it on AF!

Well i managed to lose 1kg literally overnight 🤣🤣 I've skipped the gym for a few days due to AF, not sure if I will go today got a seriously achy arm after my vaccine yesterday.

Juno231 · 16/08/2021 09:56

@ChinChilly that's one big poo! ha - although if you havent been to the gym for a few days it could be reduced water retention?

thislittlebird · 16/08/2021 10:57

Ffs my browser just refreshed on me after I typed a lot ugh.

@Kay00 no, nothing really. I accidentally found out when work had some health check stand set up one day, about 10 years ago. I did a test “just to see” and it turned out to be high for my age and weight. Doctor tested it and it was high again. Nothing to do about it really other than diet and exercise improvements because statins aren’t given to people of child bearing age because they cause birth defects. Not that I want them really, my mother has never had them and she’s much older.

My weight just doesn’t shift. Even that 0.5-1lb of loss last week looks like it was a scales lie. My weight remains the same always lol. I need to try harder, someone shout at me if I don’t do something other than running a couple of times this week. I’m due a run today, and I’m supposed to be doing a ParkRun on Saturday. I am nervous, the last time I did it it was super hard. I’m not a runner runner really, I’m more a non-sporty sort who forces herself out for a job intermittently.

Can I please join?

I have been TTC baby number 2 for 5 years :(

Lots of failed IVF in that time. OH and I have decided that we will try one more time, donor egg abroad whilst TTC naturally, so we are giving ourselves 3 months to get healthy (organic food, gluten and dairy free, etc etc).

I am also going to try and implement as much from this as possible: www.justdani.co.uk/post/dani-does-ivf

I hope you don't mind me joining in.

professionalcockney · 16/08/2021 11:01

I posted the wrong link, it should be this one: www.justdani.co.uk/post/dieting

thislittlebird · 16/08/2021 11:28

@professionalcockney welcome to the thread! Three months is a good amount of time to make a difference before you get going again.

@Kay00 forgot to say, I was listening to the BFN podcast from the start and I heard a host say her friend with PCOS finds exercise helps regulate her cycle. Which is odd, because I’d found that before too. When I’m active I’m more likely to feel that I’ve ovulated and in the past I’ve found exercise has helped my hormonal migraines too. So there must be a link but it’s such a shame it isn’t ever something you hear from health professionals.

Juno231 · 16/08/2021 11:41

@professionalcockney welcome! So sorry to hear the rollercoaster you've been on to get DC#2. Did you have similar problems when TTC#1 or is it a secondary infertility thing? Three months is plenty of time for a rehaul!

professionalcockney · 16/08/2021 11:44

Thanks for the welcome.

I had IVF to have DC1 but it didn't take this long or so many cycles/money. I conceived on the frozen transfer of my first NHS round.

ChinChilly · 16/08/2021 12:24

@thislittlebird I dont have PCOS (that i know of) but the month I got my ass back in the gym was the month I got my BFP, obviously it didn't end well but I wonder if there is a link between exercise and hormones. I always feel more level headed when I'm in a good exercising routine.

@Juno231 Ikr 🤣🤣 possibly water retention, who knows anymore I'm sick of the scales lol

@professionalcockney welcome 👋

Kay00 · 16/08/2021 13:42

@professionalcockney Welcome!

@thislittlebird PCOS can make it more difficult for us to loose weight, which is why the Metformin can be good (esp. if the cause of your PCOS is insulin resistance.. which in all fairness, i don't know if mine is).

I'm a week into taking Metformin at the slightly higher dose of 1000mg a day today (up from 500mg per day) and I'm really seeing a change to my appetite! Today for example, I have had:

  • Greek yogurt and blackberries (breakfast)
  • small handful of salted peanuts (snack)
  • 3 x low sugar digestive biscuits (lunch)
And I really don't fancy anything else.

I'm normally a very hungry person, but I have generally been off food or feeling nauseous. Sweet food seems to be turning my stomach... esp. bananas 🍌(which I normally love). I baked a banana and walnut loaf cake (to use all the bananas I didn't eat last week) but it just tasted weird to me... like chemicals. My OH said it was lovely!?

I'm a bit worried about upping my dose to 1500mg per day next week as I might feel even less hungry... but I suppose this is how you loose weight on it Grin haha! I will all be worth it is if helps balance out my hormones so a little bean might one day stick to my womb lining!

Juno231 · 16/08/2021 14:21

@Kay00 sheesh now I want some metformin!

This reminds me - there's a pre-diabetic medication (semaglutide) they're now prescribing for weight loss as well as they've realised it's making people lose 15% of their body weight without even trying. I'd love to get my hands on that for a quick fix lol. My friend's mum got prescribed it (in Spain though) this spring and lost a stone the first month purely because she wasn't hungry. The dream!

Kay00 · 16/08/2021 14:28

@Juno231 It is really odd (and very very unlike me); I have even had a rumbling belly, but no interest in eating food!

professionalcockney · 16/08/2021 22:13

Update from me:

I went for a 5k walk earlier. Also did intermittent fasting. Food wise we had some leftovers from a dinner party we hosted at the weekend so I can do definitely do better there.

All in all not a bad first day.

Juno231 · 17/08/2021 10:22

@professionalcockney great stuff! Is that 5k steps or 5km?

If people on here have fitbits we could do some fitbit challenges together?

Had a croissant this morning so not off to a great start but OH is out tonight so can therefore aim for a light dinner for once!

professionalcockney · 17/08/2021 11:04

@Juno231 5km 🙂

ChinChilly · 17/08/2021 11:37

@Juno231 I'm up for the fitbit challenges

bez91 · 17/08/2021 11:47

@thislittlebird that's not too far away to be starting either way 🤞🏼 I've thought PCOS before but my only symptom is my acne and they've had a good poke round at my ovaries and found no issues.

@MissC07 that conveyor restaurant sounds incred!

@Juno231 oooh croissant 🥐 😋

I've not done great on the food front this last week but still managing to make it to the gym as often as I can 😊

Kay00 · 17/08/2021 20:35

I LOVE pastry. OH and I went to an Indian restaurant this weekend and their 'bread' was similar to a layered butter pastry. It was beyond tasty... but I only had a little bit as it was high on the carbs!

Today I have only done a 45 min walk with the dogs (the usual) and eaten:

  • Greek yogurt with nuts and raspberries
  • portion of salted nuts
  • small avocado and crab salad
  • bagel thin (wholewheat + seeds) with left over home made chicken curry (odd I know, but it was tasty 😆)
professionalcockney · 17/08/2021 22:21

Second day - not the best but not the worst. No exercise. Out for dinner and had prosecco. Ok maybe it was the worst!

professionalcockney · 17/08/2021 22:22

@Kay00 that's called a paratha. I love them too!!
