Anyone up for a big fat body overhaul?

I'm fat, 55 and totally fed up.

I would love to look and feel nice again. I hate wearing clothes that cover my fat, I want to wear clothes that I actually like.

I definitely need to shift a couple of stone and make much more of an effort with my appearance.

Anyone else feel the same? Will be starting tomorrow if you are interested in joining me.

Did my weigh-in this morning. I'm at 200.5 lbs, which is awful for someone who's just 5 feet tall. The good news is that I'm down 3 pounds from last Wednesday. Next week's goal is to get down below 200.

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 02/08/2021 15:22

@lizziesnips

Hi Everyone, I weighed in at 14st 11lbs this morning . I would like to be 10 st as I am 5ft 4 with a medium frame. On nightshift this weekand always struggle with food on nights. I hope you all have a good start to the week.
I’m similar size to you at 14st 13 at 5ft 5.

I can imagine it’s hard working nights, do you sleep in the day and then eat your meals during your night shifts?

FelicityBeedle · 02/08/2021 20:27

Today I’ve eaten:

Chicken noodle soup (powdered)
Apple
Two scrambled eggs on toast with two bacon medallions

Bacon medallions are even crapper than I imagined

30kgtogo · 02/08/2021 21:54

That sounds very little to eat, @FelicityBeedle! I’m wavering between the 800-1000 calorie approach (fast weight loss but tough - don’t think I manage for long) or the more logical less than TDEE approach (which tells me I should be eating 1466 calories for wt loss of 2lb per week, or 1966 calories for 1lb wt loss per week.
I think I’ll go for 1500 plus 16:8 IF

FelicityBeedle · 02/08/2021 23:25

I don’t seem to lose at all if I don’t drop right down to 1000kcal! I don’t stick to this little for too long, just long enough that it lowers my appetite!

If it bothers anyone listing my food intake let me know and I’ll stop! I know it’s something that can be tricky for some

Shallwegoforawalk · 02/08/2021 23:43

Weighin this morning was worse than I thought. 13 stone 5. I'm 5'8. That's around the same weight I was when I was just about to give birth (DC is teen now but still). And means I'm heavier than my 6 foot tall husband. I've been ignoring it for too long!

Did a 20 minute swim this morning, nothing amazing just gently pootling up and down the pool and then a walk with a friend this afternoon. It was ambling and chatting but at least we weren't sitting on our bums eating cake.

Must look out my ancient Fitbit that has been in drawer somewhere for a looong time.

No crisps this evening! Had a slice of cheese as a snack when the munchies hit at 9pm. Will try to stop all evening snackage soon but weaning myself in slowly.

Badgerstmary · 03/08/2021 00:03

Hi, I need to join too. I’m 49, 50 at Christmas & only 5ft 3. I’ve already started eating healthily but need to keep at it as I don’t want to be fat & 50.
Sw 12 9
Cw 10 13
Gw 9 12 (hopefully)

Sorry @FelicityBeedle, I didn’t intend to offend - more to admire your capacity to stick to 1000 calories a day! I managed less than a week on this amount ☹️, just too hungry. That’s my carb addiction for you.

I share your disappointment in bacon medallions too!

Please do share menus, I think this is really useful for inspiration

MintyCedric · 03/08/2021 14:15

Well, the last couple of days haven't been totally strict as leftovers to use up, but not too bad.

Smoothies for breakfast both days...pineapple, mango, banana, coconut yoghurt and milk and a spoon of ground seeds...about 150kcals.

Lunch not so great from a healthy eating POV but calorie counting and within range.

Gorgeous Thai chicken salad last night:

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/thai-chicken-salad

Thin crust veggie pizza and salad tonight.

Have been doing DIY so more active than usual and not had alcohol since last Friday night, which is good going for me Blush.

MintyCedric · 03/08/2021 14:22

@FelicityBeedle

I know the feeling...last time I lost weight (10lb in 5 weeks prior to a big day out a couple of years ago) I did a smoothies for breakfast, miso soup with thinly sliced veg and crabsticks for lunch & salad for dinner.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Mine is crap and even in 225mcg thyroxine a day I struggle to lose weight sensibly.

I'm aiming for 1300 cals a day atm, but more exercise.

FelicityBeedle · 03/08/2021 14:24

@MintyCedric
I had it checked a few years ago when I first got diagnosed with depression and it was all fine, I don’t think anything’s changed but I have put a lot of weight on. It is annoying being 23 and hearing about this wonderful metabolism I’m meant to have but don’t!

MintyCedric · 03/08/2021 17:19

@FelicityBeedle bless you...mine was rubbish at 23 before my thyroid crashed so I feel your pain!

Now I'm 45 and up against the bloody menopause as well Angry.

FelicityBeedle · 03/08/2021 20:30

So today I’ve had a bit more to eat

Lunch was a tin of tuna with a tiny bit of Mayo and half a tin of sweet corn
A choc ice Blush (about 100 kcal)
Dinner was baked Dover sole with roast broccoli and rosti, pic attached but I’m no photographed

Anyone up for a big fat body overhaul?
CambsAlways · 03/08/2021 20:35

I know how everyone feels I am on steriods have been for 13 years maintenance dose for the last few years I want to lose 3 stone, I’ve so far lost exactly two stone in 4 months, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but I’m getting there slowly but surely, I had an awful craving for sugary things ice cream choc cakes you name it,

mumsy2015 · 03/08/2021 21:07

Well i'm trying to stick to small sustainable changes and just making better choices. I got a box of chocolates for my birthday on Sunday and have only eaten 4 which is unheard of for me. And today i have been to an actual hair salon (not the cheapie just turn up one that i normally use) and had my hair cut and coloured. I even splashed out on Olaplex!! It's the first time in years i've come out pleased with how my hair looks. Onwards and upwards!! Smile

Shallwegoforawalk · 03/08/2021 23:29

That's lovely @mumsy2015 getting your hair done properly and liking it is such a boost I think.

Busy day of work (wfh) so haven't even left the house today but I do have a swim slot booked in my diary for tomorrow.

I had scrambled eggs for brekkie, an apple and couple of slices of cheese for lunch (too busy to grab anything else) and home made chicken stir fry for tea.

Quite peckish but just drinking water and will go to bed soon to avoid the late night toast disaster!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 04/08/2021 15:59

Oof, not managing well with food. Trying to care for myself holistically, but yesterday and the day before (and this morning) has been a blur of tension, iffy food decisions, life getting the way of what I planned, poor sleep, foot pain and what you might term General Shithousery.

I am trying to make small, sustainable changes like fruit instead of chocolate and a glass of water when I want to eat my feelings. Partial success. I have not dared stand on the scales.

Mumsy2015 so pleased you like your hair! I am going to try to make time to paint my nails today so I feel like a real person.

MintyCedric · 04/08/2021 17:41

...what you might term General Shithousery.

I absolutely will now @IWillWashTheGreenWillow Grin.

I bought myself a magazine about menopause yesterday so have been thinking of working some diet tips from there into my menu.

I already add a spoonful of ground flax, chia, sunflower and pumpkin seeds to my breakfast smoothie.

I bought some edamame beans this morning...chucked some in my salad at lunchtime and shucked and blended the rest to make an experimental 'edamole' (or should that be guacamame?) with half an avocado, lime juice, spring onion, garlic, salt & pepper and chilli flakes...I'm fairly pleased with it.

RuthTopp · 04/08/2021 18:06

Day 2 going reasonably well.
After many years of yo-yo dieting of gaining and loosing several stone , I've decided not to get hung up on numbers ( by weighing myself ) instead will go by the feeling of clothes. I have size 10 - 20 in the wardrobe / attic, unfortunately wearing the 20s ( just 2 pairs of summer trousers ! ) so need to lose weight before the autumn.
Keep on keeping on !

FelicityBeedle · 04/08/2021 20:48

Today I’ve eaten
A coronation chicken baguette with a can of Diet Coke (I was in town and couldn’t resist)
Lots of squash
A big slice of honeydew melon

Not eaten anything for tea yet, it’ll be something light because I’m not very hungry. I’m going to lose all my progress next week, I’m going ok holiday with the in laws and all we really do is eat and drink (with some walking thrown in)

Shallwegoforawalk · 04/08/2021 22:14

Another 20 minute pootle in the pool this morning. Glanced at the gym on the way out, still looks scary!!

B Greek yoghurt with banana - more carby than I planned but hubby had hoovered all the berries before I got there.

L (in cafe with client) latte and a oaty flapjack thing - it was an achingly hip veggie cafe so it's going to be healthy right? (Ignores fact was probably loads of brown sugar/honey in it Grin) hopefully better than the carrot cake with inch of frosting I would usually have gone for!

S two apricots
D Tacos (made at home)

Skin is feeling a bit dry after 2 swims this week so am away to slap on a hydrating mask while I drink my last couple of glasses of water for the day. Can't leave it too late or I'm up to pee in the night, and my sleep is bad enough as it is!

Lupellegrino · 05/08/2021 07:50

Ok so I'm 1.8 lbs down from Monday weigh in. I'm logging my calories and averaging between 1500-1700 a day. Listening to my weight loss hypnosis every night and sleeping well and waking up refreshed and making good food choices without it being an internal battle! 🤣
I'm away til Sunday with no scales and I'll be restarting my fitness routine in the next week, resistance training a few times a week and increased walking at least 10k steps with a "cardio" fatburning walk of around 20 mins each day. I do that with Leslie Sansone on YouTube. The resistance training I use either resistance bands or dumbbells with a focus on a particular body part each time: arms, shoulders, pecs, back, abs, lower body etc.

I'm not restricting ANY food group or attaching any right or wrong to any food I eat, but I am tracking calories and making sure I eat at least 100g of protein a day and slowly building up to more. I want to have a high functioning metabolism and increasing protein and muscle mass are two key things to improve this.

I'm so tired of being stuck in the repetitive restrict and binge cycle I've spent months researching how can just make this a lifestyle for the rest of my life. And with some tweaking here and there I feel I might have cracked this nut.

P.S: I was following this lifestyle from March to June, very strictly but without the hypnosis. It got me through my daughter's chemo to be honest, I was obsessed with taking her swimming when her hickman line comes out and wanted to feel confident in my body again and also live a long, healthy life for her. She now has many additional needs from treatment and surgery. Once she got home in June I completely fell apart, and ate and drank everything in sight to try and cope with everything we had been through. However, I'm determined to get back on this horse and do a damn good job at it too. ❤

MintyCedric · 05/08/2021 12:57

It's so easily done when you're going through the mill...I dread to think what I've spent on takeaway this year, let alone wine.

Started the day with coffee and 1 slice of French toast...cinnamon and sugar on one half and bacon jam on the other. Not ideal but I had a craving, and as it's turned out I don't like French toast as much I thought I did so won't be in any rush to have it again!

Chilli miso soup with veg for lunch.

Dinner at my mums tonight so no doubt something breaded out of the freezer with sweet potato Hmm. At least it's only small portions once a week.

Still no booze since Friday and happily I don't really miss it. I had a couple of weeks off earlier in the year to support a friend who had to give up due to a change of meds, but slipped when my dad passed away.

I think I feel better on the whole for a few days of largely healthier eating and no alcohol if nothing else.

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 05/08/2021 13:01

I'm late to this thread but can I join? I'm almost 39, need to lose 9-10 stone. I'm disabled and have severe MH problems (I have psychosis)
My care coordinator thinks that of I make more of an effort with my appearance I'll feel a bit better about myself and things will hopefully improve in the MH department.

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 05/08/2021 13:04

Almost 30*
