Anyone up for a big fat body overhaul?

I'm fat, 55 and totally fed up.

I would love to look and feel nice again. I hate wearing clothes that cover my fat, I want to wear clothes that I actually like.

I definitely need to shift a couple of stone and make much more of an effort with my appearance.

Anyone else feel the same? Will be starting tomorrow if you are interested in joining me.

I'm in. I am starting today too. I have been trying for the last 10+ weeks but had a few illnesses in a row which threw me off. I have lost 8lb so far. Hoping I will stick to this and treating today as a re-start.

Chunkymenrock · 01/08/2021 21:19

Fat, fifty and short but I've got to do it. My new life is going to start and being a healthy weight will make every bit of difference. Today H and I told the children we're separating. The only way is up now! Small changes is what I need to remember. Starting with drinking plenty of water tomorrow. So inspiring to hear others' stories. Smile

Geppili · 01/08/2021 21:25

Eaten quite healthfully today in spite of being all over the place in terms of mood. Just started HRT this week and feeling up and down. Now is the time I start craving sweet stuff! Hope you all doing ok!

DulciUke · 01/08/2021 21:30

I want to join too! I'm 61. Swore to myself that I would get a handle on my weight by the time that I turned 60, but that didn't happen and I'm fat as ever. Only 5 foot tall and over 200 pounds! I'm so, so disappointed in myself--lost 18 pounds last summer, then got depressed and lazy and gained almost all of it back. It is affecting my health, so it is now or never.

Thecatsbutler · 01/08/2021 22:40

I'm in too. 56 this year, menopausal, fat & frumpy. I started at 17 stone last year, lost 5 stone, hurt my knee and back, and gained back a stone. Now ready to lose the last 2 stone I need . Smile

LondonGrimmer · 01/08/2021 23:51

@chunkymenrock what a huge step that must have been. Hope you're ok, and the h and kids too Flowers

LondonGrimmer · 02/08/2021 00:22

Drinking loads and loads of water, sugar free squash and fruit tea help me so much.

I mean, tonight it was merlot and a couple of bags of cheddars Hmm but tomorrow is a new day.

30kgtogo · 02/08/2021 04:27

Yes please!
30kg (just under 5 stone) to lose. I’ve been fat as a child, reasonably slim from late teens, slow weight gain from 30-ish, and steadily put on loads since had 2 children in Kate 30’s, followed by awful perimenopause.
Now 51, on HRT thankfully for a few years (currently awake with a night sweat!). Vowed I would not pass 50 staying this size 🙄
Last year snd a half has been spectacularly awful (Dh passed away suddenly), but I can’t avoid this any longer. I need to be fitter and healthier for my 2 dc.
Had some success with intermittent fasting (no breakfast, basically) and plan to cut down on carbs and calories, especially sugar and booze.
I walk a decent amount but will up this.
Add in some targeted resistance exercises (simple circuits with weights at home)
Would love to learn to swim when I am less embarrassed to be seen in a swimsuit.
Looking forward to doing this together!

30kgtogo · 02/08/2021 04:32

Also in for the beautifying. Will get hair cut more than once a year, colour or highlight it again, moisturise body, and buy some new make up that isn’t 10 years old 😀

Chrispackhamspoodle · 02/08/2021 05:49

Can I suggest the Joe Wicks 90 day plan?I'm 8 weeks in and its been great for me..structured my eating and got me into exercising almost everyday which is not something I thought I could or would ever do.It's changed how I look and feel about myself.

66babe · 02/08/2021 06:36

I have ordered a proper swimsuit off Amazon .. one that will fit me and encourage me to actually do more than sit in the steam room and jacuzzi pool
I've packed a lunch to take to work and my water bottle .. gallons of the stuff always fills me up
And I've put on some mascara
They may not recognise me 🤣

Chunkymenrock · 02/08/2021 07:32

@londongrimmer, how kind of you thank you. Yes, it's a positive step for us tbh, and kids are 18 and 20 so understand. Oh, and I remembered something I used to do years ago which starts the day off well which I thought I'd share. Every morning before getting out of bed, have a really good s-t-r-e-t-c-h whilst you're lying there. Everything, tips of the toes, arms, legs. As much as you feel you need to. It's lovely and energising whilst still being horizontal! Grin

monicacat · 02/08/2021 08:31

Is everyone still here. I am starting today and could do with some company.

Surlyburd · 02/08/2021 08:34

Me please, ive totally lost myself after having a hysterectomy, oophrectomy, and heart failure. Feel like im 80, but im 43! Im fat , nothing fits and i feel frumpy.
Here's to better times!

30kgtogo · 02/08/2021 08:35

I’m here. Just off for a brisk walk before leaving for work in an hour. Tea only this morning

30kgtogo · 02/08/2021 08:36

@Surlyburd, hi. That sounds difficult, poor you

Hippywannabe · 02/08/2021 08:43

I will join in too if that is OK. I turned 57 last week and we were away with friends. They have delicate garden furniture which I was too scared to sit on but after also visiting my son on the way home, I realised that I have unconsciously started to choose cafes based on the strength of their chairs!
It was a really horrifying moment for me, I have 2 grandchildren who I want to have memories of me joining in with things. There are so many things in life that I haven't tried because of my weight and now, I am 57.
I need to lose at least 6 stones.
Let's do this.

Surlyburd · 02/08/2021 08:43

@30kgtogo sound very defeated dont i. I must admit im feeling a bit sorry for myself! My dh still a beanpole after 25 years! Good luck with the make up shopping. I always used to love doing that!

LondonGrimmer · 02/08/2021 08:51

@Chunkymenrock I'm so glad it's a positive step. Life's too short to be someone you're not happy with, so here's to happier times ahead. Thanks for the s-t-r-e-t-c-h recommendation... I'm going to do it now! Smile

@30kgtogo yes I see intermittent fasting as basically having dinner before 6pm then not having any supper/drinks and snacks (apart from fruit tea or water)... Skipping breakfast... Then eating healthily. I find when I do this and get over the initial hunger stage I have so much more energy. Stops me raiding the cupboards. And the quality of food I have is better when I break my fast, as feel like I should nourish my body after not eating for so long (15hrs is a LONG time for me. I've had a lifetime of Slimming World brain washing to undo... Basically from age 17 told never to feel hunger and to constantly snack on fruit and Muller Lights Hmm).

I'm aiming to do IF Mon-Fri and/or when I'm at home. If we're out for a celebratory meal then I'll obvs struggle.

My top tip for today, which goes nicely with the full body stretch, is B-R-E-A-T-H-E! Do a minute or two of lovely deep breathing to get lots of lovely oxygen flowing Smile

Have a good one all.

MutteringDarkly · 02/08/2021 09:11

@FelicityBeedle

When I weighed in a Few weeks ago I had to quite symbolically take the batteries out of the baking scales to go into the bathroom scales. Made me laugh a bit
Love this, a light moment in a sobering time (for me)! I'm in. Lots to lose, tiresomely weight I have lost once before but piled back on during shielding / lockdowns. The week can only get better as I broke a tooth yesterday and so have emergency dentist today. It was eating a mixed bean salad FFS. Cake wouldn't have done that to me don't examine the logic of that too closely please
laselvar · 02/08/2021 10:11

Morning all, didn't eat rubbish yesterday, but portion control was weak and didn't d over 10k steps. My period is due so that means non stop carb cravings!
Off to take the youngest DC swimming this morning, then football late afternoon - I'll walk to both so should get the steps up and hopefully a busy day will stop me raiding the kitchen!

Lupellegrino · 02/08/2021 10:24

Weighing in at 13 stone 3. Ideally would like to be 11. I'm very fit, walk a lot and strength train at home but need to build consistency. Would like to return to a strong, athletic physique without the excess fat covering it up!

On another thread yesterday someone mentioned David McGraw weight loss hypnosis on YouTube. I listened to it before I got out of bed yesterday morning and I listened to it again yesterday afternoon and it was amazing feeling really positive and not wanting to overeat. Its a 30 day thing so listen every night before bed but I thought it might be interesting if someone wanted to do it too and see how we feel in 30 days!

lizziesnips · 02/08/2021 10:45

Hi Everyone, I weighed in at 14st 11lbs this morning .
I would like to be 10 st as I am 5ft 4 with a medium frame.
On nightshift this weekand always struggle with food on nights.
I hope you all have a good start to the week.

monicacat · 02/08/2021 11:53

Hello again, just been to the dentist in an effort to get myself a smile so that is a start.
I am getting on a bit but have finally found the courage to speak out which I am hoping will end in court.
My problem is that I have let myself go and have piled on so much weight that nothing fits me although I have nice clothes hidden away.
I want to look like I have some pride in myself
My confidence has taken some knocks lately but I am beginning to fight back.
Today I have cut down on carbs so far and I am planning on doing 8/16 fasting.
Its now or never. This is our time.

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 02/08/2021 13:41

Place marking here, gave birth to my 8th baby a week ago so not ready to start just yet but hopefully soon. I actually lost a stone whilst pregnant due to morning sickness so weigh less now than before! My appetite is 100% back though so I need to take control.

@Chrispackhamspoodle I would love to try the body coach, have you got the app? I love joe and follow him on Instagram, I’ve been meaning to try it but I’m always ruddy pregnant.
