Anyone up for a big fat body overhaul?

I'm fat, 55 and totally fed up.

I would love to look and feel nice again. I hate wearing clothes that cover my fat, I want to wear clothes that I actually like.

I definitely need to shift a couple of stone and make much more of an effort with my appearance.

Anyone else feel the same? Will be starting tomorrow if you are interested in joining me.

That sounds positive, @shinynewapple21.

Yes, there was a clot after all. Mutter.

Am still here. Everything is fine as long as I lie still and don't talk!

YetAnotherWalk · 16/09/2021 19:09

How are you all doing? Especially @IWillWashTheGreenWillow I hope you're resting and recovering.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 16/09/2021 20:55

Still here. Still in hospital but rumours of being allowed home tomorrow if my new anti-coagulant works magic overnight.

Living on nutritionally dubious hospital food (microwaved stodge, not enough veg, topped up with tea and biscuits); not allowed to move about except from bed to chair and back. And rotating the ankle of my operated foot.

Will be opening discussions on planned recovery, rather than fired-home-and-forgotten-about tomorrow, even if I have to pay for it myself!

Hope you are all doing well. Do not be an idiot like me, listen to your bodies.

YetAnotherWalk · 17/09/2021 14:02

I hope you are waiting on your discharge papers @IWillWashTheGreenWillow

Bloody gaslighty doctor types.

Goal posts moved repeatedly this morning.
⚽ Cannula removed at 4pm yesterday... and reinstated at 5.30am this morning. 🤷
âš½ Different doctor says must see physio. Nurse then cancels as "inappropriate"
âš½ Doctor asks for evidence of mobility; I point out I can't use crutches with bloody cannula and attached to machine that goes bing! Everyone shuffles feet in an embarrassed fashion.
⚽ DH turned up with Emergency GF biscuits (hosp can't do GF food at all. My breakfast options have been ordinary toast, cereal or a banana, to which I am allergic 🤦) and asked Pointed Questions.
âš½ Cannula and machines removed again, allowed to bobble round ward on my crutches ans go to the loo on my own!
âš½ Have moved from high dependency Cardiac Care to General Female Medical ward. GFM don't seem to know why I'm here, and I am in the extra bit of ward created from the old waiting room. The loo is a portakabin.

Next moves unclear, but I am holding onto the achievement of Own Pants and trotting round the bed on my crutches at every available opportunity!

yumyumpoppycat · 18/09/2021 09:13

@IWillWashTheGreenWillow sounds frustrating- I hope you get a clearer plan from them today and get home soon.

@YetAnotherWalk how has your week been?

@shinynewapple21 I have to he same problem I love diet books but the vegan thing throws me as it seems the best choice but doesn't seem to help me loose weight and has screwed me up a couple of times. A few times lower carb diets (Atkins, harcombe, bsd) have really inspired me and I have lost loads and am convinced this time the weight will stay off. The really annoying thing is they never seem to work twice.

I have been rubbish this week but hopefully I will be on it now!

Hope all well

YetAnotherWalk · 18/09/2021 15:52

Oh that is beyond frustrating @IWillWashTheGreenWillow Hope they've got rid of you now Wink

Been walking quite a bit @yumyumpoppycat eating not great, sleeping not great and a bit of a cold Confused Ah well, birthday this week and will be fatter than I want, but really so depressed with the prospect of winter, lockdown/home schooling or getting Covid or all of the above that I really can't motivate myself Blush

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 19/09/2021 11:22

Morning all, delighted to announce I finally made it home at about a quarter to eight last night, after four separate false starts!

I have to try to balance doing more - to move clots on - with resting so as not to slow recovery. Trying also to manage food properly - I lost 1.5kg in hospital, I now need to not put it all back on, and more, now I am comfortable again.

@YetAnotherWalk I'm really sorry the prospect of winter is sapping your motivation. Anything we can do to help?

@yumyumpoppycat I have also found (and heard) that low carb only works once for women. Different for men, apparently, which is very irritating! I am trying the Why We Eat Too Much principles for now as I have a problem with yeast anyway so taking wheat and corn out of my diet actually makes that easier. No sugar is proving difficult though.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

YetAnotherWalk · 19/09/2021 18:09

Great!

Move the sun? Grin

yumyumpoppycat · 19/09/2021 21:21

Brilliant to hear you are home @IWillWashTheGreenWillow . Funnily enough I read that book over the summer. I think i maybe get read it again and try and adopt some of it.

@YetAnotherWalk hope you have a lovely birthday and your cold clears up. I really hope there won't be another lockdown but trying not to think about it! Fingers crossed for a sunny autumn!

YetAnotherWalk · 21/09/2021 12:35

Thanks @yumyumpoppycat I did have a nice day. Nose is iffy, but I've stopped my anti histamines so probably that...

How are you all??? @IWillWashTheGreenWillow I hope you are feeling better.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 21/09/2021 20:12

Coming back to things slowly thanks @YetAnotherWalk. Glad you had a nice birthday. As to the Approach of Winter issue... Have you considered cranking up the heating, putting a yellow bulb in the living room light fitting, and hanging around in your scanties pretending it's July? 😂

Today I am back to sensible eating - I had overnight oats with pear and walnut for breakfast, half a baked potato with tuna and salad for lunch and chilli with rice, a large salad and some fresh (ish) salsa for tea. And a yoghurt. Snacks of a few almonds and raisins (morning) and an apple (afternoon). That sounds like quite a lot written down, maybe it was too much?

I also, for the first time in six weeks, managed moisturiser, perfume and a little bit of make up (just mascara and a dab of lipstick). I felt better for it.

This really has to work this time, I know I can't starve and hate myself into a different body.

YetAnotherWalk · 21/09/2021 20:35

Have you seen the news about all the gas companies going bust and price rises??? I think I'm going to hibernate and wake in March I have enough reserves after all

Well done, I need to sort myself so badly!

yumyumpoppycat · 22/09/2021 08:13

Well done @IWillWashTheGreenWillow your food sounded delicious!

I had quite a lot of rice cakes and oat biscuits to get there but had my first day without any bread in a while! Fasted until lunch then had roasted veg and cheese. Roast chicken and veg for dinner (boring but nice!)

@YetAnotherWalk hibernating sounds ideal right now 😉

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 22/09/2021 11:35

Just a quick check in - I have dropped another pound and half since Saturday!

Need to keep going, rather than celebrating with a Bath bun 🤬.

@yumyumpoppycat I have gone right off chicken for some reason, I am so bored with it.

@YetAnotherWalk I have decided I will hibernate too this year.

@LondonGrimmer, @shinynewapple21, @StormyLovesOdd, hope all is going well for you.

LondonGrimmer · 22/09/2021 11:44

Hello! I have been thinking of you all and meaning to post. I have stayed the same (78kgs) but tummy feels flatter and I have more energy lately...probably due to the fact life is so hectic I've no time to stop Grin

shinynewapple21 · 23/09/2021 22:39

Glad to hear you are out of hospital and getting back on track @IWillWashTheGreenWillow

That's interesting about low carb but not really appropriate for me as I've never stuck to it beyond two days . I have found the why we eat too much approach with no wheat or sugar but rice, oats and potato Ok being not too bad to stick to. At home ! Not so easy when eating out . Went to a friend's and ate several cakey/biscuity things yesterday but managing sugar free at home apart from a bit of dark chocolate .

Today I had moma porridge with raspberry and seeds (sugar free) made with water and a chopped banana

Rice cakes with marmite and avocado and butter nut squash soup

Small sweet potato, veg including green beans, broccoli and baby sweet corn and salmon

Snacks - a rice cake with almond butter, some olives and a couple of pieces dark chocolate

Glass red wine

Need to do more exercise as just wandered very slowly around a field while my dog sniffed the hedgerows

yumyumpoppycat · 25/09/2021 10:33

@shinynewapple21 interesting that you were ok with a little biscuits and cake at your friends house. I was eating similar to you this week and feeling good - even had a little of the kids pudding without a problem. Yesterday though I had a sandwich for lunch which turned into toast for tea and basically the whole day went wrong!! Soo I think a little sociable off plan eating is ok for me but it is the furtive bread eating that I need to avoid at all costs I might get a gluten free loaf in the freezer as that will be less moreish when I have an urge for a sandwich!

@IWillWashTheGreenWillow I am really impressed how you have got back on plan - hope you have done better than me and avoided the bun Grin

@LondonGrimmer brilliant that you are feelingslimner - I can't commit to it yet but I sm beginning to wonder about ditching the scales and going by how I feel.

Plan for next eeek is more veg and more sleep - I would be lecturing my kids if they behaved like me so will have to try and practice what I preach!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 28/09/2021 20:57

Right, so I had a couple of planned lapses over the weekend - it was our wedding anniversary on Saturday and we went out-out to an Actual Gig on Sunday - but I'm mostly back with the programme now and I've eaten sensibly today.

And! I managed a dog walk. About 15 mins of consistent movement, for the first time in at least 6 weeks. I'll weight tomorrow and hope this is the start of movement in the right direction.

YetAnotherWalk · 29/09/2021 20:37

Hope the leg is behaving @IWillWashTheGreenWillow

Things crap here but I will no doubt try to get back in the saddle. Only upside of life at the moment is no fuel is mega mileage on foot every day. At a guess near 8 today!

IWillWoooTheGhoulWillow · 30/09/2021 09:02

Leg is doing well, thanks, but multiple flights stairs promote extreme breathlessness 😢.

Weight loss of 0.2lbs yesterday (i.e. wearing my watch or not!). But not a gain, despite cake, pizza and ice cream.

Going to walk the dog again now.

shinynewapple21 · 30/09/2021 09:12

Hello everyone . Just checking in .

So pleased on the weekend . Weighed myself and lost 3 lb .

But seem to have fallen off the wagon a bit since then . Lack of food in the house meant I ate toast and have now also eaten ice cream,
chocolate and have cheese cake in fridge .
I may just try to be 'sensible' until after my holiday and restart properly then . I have a weekend of selfcare planned anyway as need to dye my hair and depilate legs/bikini line before I go away.

Good luck to all .

YetAnotherWalk · 30/09/2021 12:45

Have a lovely time @shinynewapple21

Oh no @IWillWashTheGreenWillow guess it's going to take a while to recover fitness.

Feel sick if not eating and feeling sick makes me not want to eat lettuce... so it's going great Grin

Take care all

IWillWoooTheGhoulWillow · 04/10/2021 11:51

Oof. Another crap week foodwise, but I am at least back in my cords with a real waistband, instead of stretchy trousers. Just wish I could go down a couple of sizes!

I overdid it yesterday walking the dog and batch cooking, and spent the afternoon in bed. Seeing a cardiologist on Friday, so hopefully I can get some proper guidance on what I need to be doing to build myself back up.

@YetAnotherWalk it is definitely now too autumnal for lettuce.

@shinynewapple21 how did the weekend of self-care go?

yumyumpoppycat · 06/10/2021 08:54

@IWillWoooTheGhoulWillow nice to fit comfortably in your cords - things are going in the right direction! Hope you get some good advice re managing energy etc Thanks

I have begun to more consistently apply makeup when going out to work etc. But still need to work on removing it with cleanser! Went to a party at the weekend and felt a total frump so really need to get my arse in gear!

Have reset mfp again today but for the first time I also reset the start date which did actually feel like a fresh start. Have set to maintenance cals 30 30 40 macros and going to aim for everything staying green!

Hope all well
