Anyone up for a big fat body overhaul?

I'm fat, 55 and totally fed up.

I would love to look and feel nice again. I hate wearing clothes that cover my fat, I want to wear clothes that I actually like.

I definitely need to shift a couple of stone and make much more of an effort with my appearance.

Anyone else feel the same? Will be starting tomorrow if you are interested in joining me.

Thanks @LondonGrimmer, I'm sore but not in agony. My brain works better now that I've run out of codeine so I'm better at distracting myself. Today, my LimbO should arrive and I'm hoping for a proper wash!

I'm eating reasonably well and not snacking because I have to ask other people to bring snacks to me and that's really a step too far. I'm aware there's not as much veg as I should be eating - DH definitely sees vegetables as an option, not a given - but I'm eating three meals a day interspersed with cups of tea.

I've been looking into what I can do once I'm up and about again and have been wondering about doing a week's or a few days meal prep at a time. Because of food difficulties for the DC, we only all eat the same thing for Sunday roast anyway, so it might be easy for me to prep my meals for the week or for 3 days, and leave them in the fridge.

Once this boot is off my foot, I need to find someone experienced with hypermobility to help me exercise properly. This operation is the culmination of the third time I've broken myself excercising on the fly, off the internet, so to speak and I need to approach it differently. I'm getting too old for this shit!

Lovely cakes, HerRoyal and Minty. Hope everyone else is powering forward.

YetAnotherWalk · 20/08/2021 21:22

Hope you manage to get back on the wagon @LondonGrimmer

Oh dear @IWillWashTheGreenWillow. Meal planning/batch prep is a good idea. I make myself all 4 jackets that come in the pack and eat it fresh on day one and then use the others for twice baked potatoes (for lunch)

Wow that seems unfair if you didn't even have ice cream @mumsy2015 Sad

I'm plodding along, going to WI in the morning before going for afternoon tea. So much cake on the menu!

LondonGrimmer · 20/08/2021 23:56

@IWillWashTheGreenWillow "DH definitely sees vegetables as an option, not a given" haha this describes my dh perfectly too Grin he enjoys them once a week with a Sunday roast and that's him done for another 6 days Hmm

I am wondering about how it would feel to be incapacitated and have to ask people to bring me snacks. Am sure it would see a drastic reduction in snacking too! Glad you're not in huge pain. What's a LimbO?

Umm... I fasted 8pm - 11am, then had healthy brunch of grilled mushrooms, halloumi and red pepper in a wholemeal pitta pocket. Lots of tea. Sushi, banana and a Soreen bar for tea.... Then turned into the hungry caterpillar this eve (default) and had a couple of vodkas, crisps, croissant, babybel and a yoghurt... Ah well, could have been worse.

Salad and fish planned for tomorrow, fajitas and more salad Sunday. What's everyone else eating this weekend?

Enjoy your afternoon tea and all that cake @YetAnotherWalk Smile (batch cooking is fab. Shame I can't do it due to resistant starch build up affecting my IBS).

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 21/08/2021 10:50

@LondonGrimmer a LimbO is a big rubbery plastic bag with a neoprene top to keep a body part dry after surgery or in a cast. The same effect can broadly be achieved with a bin bag and gaffa tape, but it's such a faff. Anyway, the LimbO was brilliant and I feel a whole new woman after a shower and a proper wash. I may even attempt a bath today.

I have been battling DH over vegetables since we first met. He has some strange ideas, including "bacon is a vegetable" (not really, but he's never found a dish that can't be improved by the addition of bacon) and "it's not a chilli unless there's sweetcorn in it " Hmm but eats a relatively limited selection of cooked veg. As a family we have had a two-vegetables rule since the DC were onto solids but some days I'd like something other than peas (for all except DS1), carrots (not for DH unless stewed, extra for DS3 and never put the bowl down in front of him!), broccoli (extra for DS2), raw crunchy stuff for DD (but never tomatoes).

I am realising that, even with someone else making my meals, a lot of my issue is being unable to think what I want / need to eat when I'm hungry (this is not news, my DM is the same and I can't believe I thought I'd get away without it). That's when I reach for bread and cheese and feel bloated and ill and sorry for myself and end up mainlining biscuits. So I am going to batch-prep breakfasts and lunches when I am up and about again, so I can just pull them out of the fridge. I've found someone on Youtube who seems to approach these things sensibly and I can adapt her receipes / plans to accommodate tedious food sensitivities and hopefully still eat well.

Yesterday I had cold left over pizza for lunch and fish and chips for tea, so I should probably write the day off. However, today I can confirm I've managed oats, yoghurt and cherries for breakfast and will have cheese, apple, tomatoes and cucumber for lunch. May have a slice of granary bread, depending on whether I want to pay for it later, unless we have some oatcakes. Moussaka for tea and I will insist on vegetables of some sort!

Hope the afternoon tea with lots of cake is lovely @YetAnotherWalk. If it's going to be a treat, then really let it be a treat!

@mumsy2015 it seems very unfair that no ice cream should lead to a gain! Hope the exante is going well and it pushes you enough in the right direction to be able to eat healthily after.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 21/08/2021 11:27

Right. I have been brave and sent an email to my old Pilates Physiotherapy instructor, in the hope of getting back to things safely. Wish me luck!

YetAnotherWalk · 21/08/2021 13:00

Ah pilates is great. I did it after SPD in my 2nd pregnancy.

Thanks for the good wishes, I'm now starving myself so I can fit it all in Wink The scales have been very kind and I'm now 1.5kg down from starting with you lot! Shock

Menu plan...
Tonight: nada Wink
Tomorrow: making pizza for lunch as DS having a friend over, so soup for tea
Monday: BBQ (I'll have Nando's chicken, new potatoes or potato salad & green salad with feta)
Tuesday: fajitas & fries
Wednesday: spag bol
Thursday onwards undecided.

@LondonGrimmer I do batch in a very limited set of circs - double amounts of chilli and bolognese and sometimes stew or curry if enough left over. Don't have a chest freezer, so space always at a premium.

Have a nice rest of the weekend all!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 21/08/2021 22:01

I am properly on it today! I finally made it downstairs for a couple of hours and spent ten minutes prepping breakfast til Thursday. We will see if it works! (If it tastes like cack, I shall have to rethink! How do you spell that? Cack? Cak? Kak? Not sure!)

YetAnotherWalk · 22/08/2021 20:24

Hope you're tucked up resting now @IWillWashTheGreenWillow What did you make?

Sjanish33 · 22/08/2021 21:47

Hi Everyone

Can I jump on the non-gravy train. I'm fat 53 and fed up with trying to lose quickly. I did lose almost 2 stone well over a year ago but a stone crept back on pretty easily.

I started weight watchers two weeks ago so far I'm down 1.6kg it's slow but I like this plan I never tried it before and to be honest I don't really feel I'm on a diet except I have stopped drinking alcohol.

So start weight 90.1kg
CW 88.5kg
And a goal of 64kg

I'm short at 5ft 3 and I'm aiming for the 10 stones - I'm not rushing it this time and I am aiming to lose on average one pound each week - sounds doable, right (◠‿◕)

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 23/08/2021 10:00

Hi @Sjanish33 - yes, that sounds doable and very sensible!

Well, my premade breakfasts are working so far and stopping me reaching for toast and butter. It turns out the trick with overnight oats is to add a strong flavour like cinnamon so they're not too boring. Next time I might try peanut butter! I've ordered some bigger kilner jars so I can add fruit when I prep too so it's all in one pot and dead straightforward.

The DC are going out to buy salad bits for me today, so I shall also try prepping salads in advance and see if that works equally well. And I have a sweet potato that needs using up, so I shall roast that in chunks.

Haven't stood on the scales, mostly because I'm not prepared to deal with the added weight of bandaging and my super-sexy orthopedic sandal (won't add much, but it's the principle of the thing!). I am dressed and downstairs and back in the world today.

Hop(p)ing for a good week for everyone!

YetAnotherWalk · 23/08/2021 13:47

Welcome @Sjanish33 It sounds like a very steady goal.

Glad you liked your breakfast Willow. I can't stand porridge unless I make it into granola with syrup Blush

So far so good here today, check in with you all later.

YetAnotherWalk · 24/08/2021 08:24

Morning you lot. Slept awfully - a lot of changes are afoot and I feel really unsettled and on day 34 of my cycle Hmm. Had a sneak peak on the scales and I'm now 1.8kg/3.9lbs off from starting. Wow Blush

Bedding on the line and about to go out for some fresh air.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 24/08/2021 09:43

Morning @YetAnotherWalk, sorry you slept badly, so did I. Must be something in the air. I also overdid it yesterday and so was in pain and restless. Taking today very quietly indeed. Well done on your weightloss!

I made 4 salads yesterday to last til Thursday, will just be ringing the changes on the protein - tuna dressed with vinegar and black pepper yesterday 😋, probably cold sausages today.

Phyllis321 · 24/08/2021 12:48

May I join? 51 and 3 stone too porky. Actually I’m guessing about the weight because I literally can’t bear to weigh myself - I really spiral. Anyone else suffer from scales phobia?

YetAnotherWalk · 24/08/2021 19:54

Oh no @IWillWashTheGreenWillow Hope you have had a quiet day and that we both sleep tonight.

Welcome aboard @Phyllis321 although we seem to have lost @Seil who started the thread - maybe people have gone off on holiday clutching at straws

Hope today went well @Sjanish33 and how are you getting on @LondonGrimmer?

Sjanish33 · 24/08/2021 23:24

Hi everyone

I decided to spring clean today and got into such a sweat with a major moving of bedroom furniture - may be sore in the morning ᕦ(ಠ_ಠ)ᕤ

I ate well and didn't pig out when I slumped on the sofa afterwards. I started hrt this week and I think it's giving me extra energy I hope it doesn't hinder any potential weight loss though -

Not sure if WW is totally for me but I do like the point tracking and it's keeping me on track so far this week!

Hope everyone is good.

YetAnotherWalk · 25/08/2021 08:33

Morning, hope you don't hurt too much this morning Grin Well done for not pigging out. So easy to reward ourselves with food!

Have a good day all!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 25/08/2021 13:54

@Phyllis321 I'm not scale phobic, but I deliberately don't count calories because I get obssessive very quickly and it gets into a downhill spiral.

@Sjanish33 well done on the spring clean! Hope you are not too achey this morning.

@Seil hope you are ok, you've started something good here.

My pre-made food is working really well for me, although DH did buy me a surprise Belgian bun yesterday that it would have been rude to refuse Grin.

YetAnotherWalk · 26/08/2021 07:41

Well, yes it would have been rude Wink

Well I ate all of my feelings last night! Blush and promptly sent myself to bed at 9:30. Slept till about 5, so not really more than a normal night. Dozed a bit more...

Have a good day all, looking chilly and autumnal out there!!!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 26/08/2021 11:30

Sorry you ate your feelings, @YetAnotherWalk, do you know what set you off?

I am finding the question "do I want to eat this thing enough to ask someone else to bring it to me, and know that I am eating it?" very powerful. So much so that despite 2 weeks if sitting on my bum recuperating, I've lost two pounds! Very proud of myself. Today is meal prep day again, so more overnight oats and salads in the offing - think I will try some different recipes this time.

YetAnotherWalk · 26/08/2021 21:27

Oh well done you! Tired, stressed and hormonal here - not a good combo...Today has been better thankfully.

Sjanish33 · 26/08/2021 23:27

Had a day that killed off all my WW points (it had to happen) went for a few glasses of wine tonight and thoroughly enjoyed the splurge - first in almost a month! Of course, I'm hormonal so it's to be expected - oh well I will be better for the rest of the week - (I hope) @YetAnotherWalk I may have drank my feelings - but I do think we all need that from time to time - so I'm owning it tonight - I weigh in on Monday if I stay the same I will be happy to have lost 4lb in as many weeks, right on target - it's a marathon for me now :)

HandlebarLadyTash · 27/08/2021 07:05

Right, I weighed myself... 15st 1
Not surprised really I look fat, with a round tummy.
So thank you for helping me get on the scales

DH has had a dr check which shows his blood pressure is high. Now I would expect this in me (mines fine) But hes got correct BMI, cholesterol, runs 3 times a week.
So for the last two weeks we have overhauled diet, cut back on the booze.
He weighs himself regularly & has lost 5 lbs, I'm glad I didnt weigh myself earlier.
Struggling with low sodium meals it always seems such a effort after work & kids but I think I just need to get used to it.
If anyone qualifys for the age 40 health check it might be worth doing it, might be the little push to keep you on the straight & narrow

HandlebarLadyTash · 27/08/2021 07:14

@Phyllis321 yep scale phobia is a thing

@IWillWashTheGreenWillow problem is the answer to the do I really want to eat this is... yes Grin

YetAnotherWalk · 29/08/2021 09:30

Well done for getting on the scales @HandlebarLadyTash it can only get better. Oh I can relate to that... is eating this better than the feeling of being thin??? Yes, every time LOL

My period finally arrived, so hoping things will settle a bit. Yesterday I ODed on white refined carbs. We're away so the options are limited when you're out and busy and in someone else's house, but there we go.

Plan for today:
B: Eat natural bar
L: ham & coleslaw baguette, crisps
S: ice cream (got to be done)
D: take away

Oh dear! Heading home tomorrow so can be a bit more in control although service station stops are never very healthy!
