Anyone up for a big fat body overhaul?

Seil · 31/07/2021 17:31

I'm fat, 55 and totally fed up.

I would love to look and feel nice again. I hate wearing clothes that cover my fat, I want to wear clothes that I actually like.

I definitely need to shift a couple of stone and make much more of an effort with my appearance.

Anyone else feel the same? Will be starting tomorrow if you are interested in joining me.

Sounds good @shinynewapple21

Hope everyone has a good Monday. I slept so badly - first day since July where everyone had to be out early. Done quite a bit of walking and a nice picnic like tea of gammon, salads and melon later.

How's the leg and pain @IWillWashTheGreenWillow?

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 06/09/2021 16:04

Hi @YetAnotherWalk, leg pain is much more manageable with a proper pain management regimen! Although naturally, this morning's appointment at the hospital gave me totally conflicting analgesic advice to yesterday's 🤦‍♀️. Can also confirm there is NO CLOT (🥳 hooray), just a massively swollen ankle from sitting/standing for 2 hours rather than resting with leg elevated. I can't win!

Today is back to school day for DD (going into Y12. Ye gods, how did that happen?) so we had Back To School pastries for breakfast Blush. However I had very worthy beef salad for lunch (too much kale) and am having a small portion of chicken tikka masala with rice for tea. And probably extra broccoli.

YetAnotherWalk · 06/09/2021 19:49

Oh wow, time does fly doesn't it! I'm glad there's definitely no clot, but how annoying to have conflicting advice.

It has been very very stressful here this PM and I really wanted to eat eat and eat more, but I listened to the hypnotherapy thing on YT, had a glass of water and did bed time and now I think it's too late to eat anyway.

Fingers crossed for a better day tomorrow stress wise. Eating's been OK...

Hope you are doing ok @LondonGrimmer

LondonGrimmer · 06/09/2021 19:59

Hello! Sorry about stressful evening @yetanotherWalk Sad well done for not stuffing your face. So hard to resist some times.

So glad you don't have a clot @IWillWashTheGreenWillow... But the conflicting advice would annoy me too. Let's hope for a straightforward recovery from here on in.

I had cornflakes for breakfast, halloumi and beetroot salad for lunch and pasta pesto for tea. So not a bad day! At work for next three so will take a healthy packed lunch and know I can't raid the cupboards - yay.

Has anyone ever done Team Body Project workouts? I started some of the free ones at the start of the year and quite enjoyed them. Keep meaning to get back into them.

yumyumpoppycat · 06/09/2021 20:28

Iwillwasthegreenwillow my ds started y12 today - crazy.

Well done yetanother - I stress eat so that would be a big win. Hope it's a good day tomorrow

Londongimmer I haven't tried team body - what is it? I have an embarrassingly huge collection of workout dvds and really need to get back to working out

Had an ok but not so perfect day - bf avocado and eggs, lunch cheese and ham toastie, snack toast Blush, roast veg and chicken for dinner then 1 squ dark choc.

Someone mentioned skincare- I literally don't even cleanse and my skincare knowledge is from 2002 - might need to start investigating

LondonGrimmer · 06/09/2021 20:51

Ooh skincare. I had a big birthday earlier in the year and my dh surprised me with some Elemis stuff. I'd already been using and loving the tri-enzyme face wash in the shower since Christmas, but have now been enjoying using an apricot toner and have fallen in love with a little sample of their famous Pro-Collagen Marine Cream. Was looking online last night and it's sooo expensive. Even with 15% off for new customers it's £74 for 50ml Blush So not sure whether I can justify the cost.

Here's the website I was talking about

team body project

I quite liked the free workouts and was considering subscribing but then life got in the way as usual...

YetAnotherWalk · 07/09/2021 12:58

I just use Superdrug's hot cloth cleanser and now also a day cream and a night cream rather than just one moisturiser.

Hope you're all OK. Today is hot, but then I was hoping we'd see the sun in September, so I'm not allowed to complain.

Food is so so, but not going off the deep end completely. Waves to you all

yumyumpoppycat · 08/09/2021 08:48

Yetnother is the cleanser good? I have had the boots one in my cupboard for at least 4 years as it just dries my face out. Think I will try and just use it.

Londongimmer I love the smell of Elemis stuff - had a facial at the centre parcs spa and it's the biggest treat / so relaxing

Been ok but not perfect with food toast the other day caused a gain. But have had approx 2 weeks alcohol free so that's positive. Bit gutted with myself as I had lost almost a stone but regained it when we cancelled our holiday in early august. I don't have to eat much for it to go back on but need to accept that's a fact and be in healthy eating frame of mind more than diet at all times.

YetAnotherWalk · 08/09/2021 12:57

Yummy, I've got this one with matching day and night cream and it's fine, but guess it depends on your skin.

It's always easier to go on then come off isn't it Angry

LondonGrimmer · 08/09/2021 21:22

Oh I used to use that Superdrug one and loved it! It's very good.

I've been so bloated from drinking so much water in this heat that I've been too scared to go near the scales. Food hasn't been bad, but definitely could be better. Have had a cold and annoying dry tickly cough which has affected my sleep... And I'm guessing we all reach for the sugar / carbs when we're shattered.

Hope you're all having a relaxing evening Smile

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 08/09/2021 22:35

Evening. Am thoroughly depressed about how round I am atm. Worked out last night that I've put on a stone and a half since lockdown 1 started, a stone of that since I injured my foot last November. So theoretically that's 18 months on, I'll need 18 months to get back to only overweight, and be able to wear my engagement ring again.

This is not feeling possible at the moment, I am just a beachball on crutches in need of a haircut. I've bitten all my fingernails off and can barely manage a proper wash because I still can't get my foot wet. Right now, I would kill for a bath (not possible for at least another week) except our drains from upstairs have blocked too.

I am at least in bed with my teeth brushed so I can't eat the entire kitchen.

YetAnotherWalk · 09/09/2021 06:18

@IWillWashTheGreenWillow being a grownup sucks! Our oven broke on Monday. Sending you a big (((hug))) Well done for taking yourself off to bed. It's going to be little steps both literally and figuratively. Can you do some chair yoga off YouTube to at least feel like you've done something useful in terms of exercise?

Hope you feel better too @LondonGrimmer. It rained last night which was lovely and cooling. The 20 degrees forecast for the forseaable sounds much better.

Hope you have a good day @yumyumpoppycat and @shinynewapple21

shinynewapple21 · 10/09/2021 17:59

Oh dear @IWillWashTheGreenWillow you sound very down on yourself. I'm sure anybody meeting you would think you look fine but I can understand you feeling down after your operation when movement is hampered .

I hope you've had a better day today .

I think I need to review my eating plan. I had been trying to increase protein and reduce carbs but my body doesn't feel happy living that way. I also don't think my calorie intake is low enough to lose weight . It might help if I actually logged it! Good news is I haven't eaten sugar or wheat since last Saturday, apart from a very small piece of dark chocolate .

Having a takeaway curry for tea but I will do cauliflower rice rather than ordering normal rice .

shinynewapple21 · 10/09/2021 18:01

Have you managed to get your oven fixed @YetAnotherWalk ? Hope it's not impacting on your eating plan too much .

YetAnotherWalk · 10/09/2021 19:16

Thanks for asking. After 4 days of stress (and DH trying to fix it) yesterday went completely off the rails and today has been in stuff it mode Blush

TBH I think we bought a dud because it's given us endless problems in the decade we've had it. New one coming tomorrow! Going to have to pull myself together.

I'm very impressed with your eating - hope the curry is nice. Amazing self control. I seem to have none...16:8 tends to work well, but then there's a new research paper to say IF is not good for thyroid patients Confused Hmm

Hope you've made it in tact to Friday @LondonGrimmer
Hope you're feeling a bit brighter today @IWillWashTheGreenWillow

LondonGrimmer · 10/09/2021 23:03

@shinynewapple21 Shock no sugar or wheat for a week?! What have you been eating? That's very impressive, well done! Hope you enjoyed your take away curry (again kudos for having cauli rice not some delicious greasy mushroom rice).

@IWillWashTheGreenWillow how are you feeling now? Slightly less depressed I hope? Hope you're hobbling around ok. Am sure once you're back on your feet properly and getting some steps in you'll feel better.

@YetAnotherWalk how exciting you're getting a shiny new oven! Hope this one is more reliable. I'm itching for a new kitchen but dh tenses up every time I mention one Grin

Well I made it to Friday and am exhausted despite a 90 min post school run nap. Keep forgetting iron tablets lately. I always have high hopes for the weekend; think I'm going to blitz the house, get lots of jobs done, exercise etc but when it comes to it I'm shattered on a Friday evening, panic on a Saturday (and get distracted with the kids) then feel depressed and lethargic on a Sunday as have got nothing done...then wallow in self pity and then it's Monday again Blush Don't know what the answer is.

Am off shopping for a new outfit for a wedding tomorrow and am dreading it. Have lots of lovely dresses but none where I can do the zip up Hmm and have recently been to one so can't wear the one dress that does fit again (same circle of friends for a start). I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get one in a size bigger than I've ever bought but there's not much I can do now. Started the year so positive I'd lose my lockdown 1.5 stone and be able to wear my nice clothes again... Sad

YetAnotherWalk · 11/09/2021 19:39

Hope shopping went OK @LondonGrimmer work/life is just exhausting isn't it?

It's in and it is lovely and I've tested it by baking a cake Blush In my defence it's going in the freezer for next week when I'm turning 21 Wink and tomorrow there'll be 2 more cakes made to go with it as I want something special. Children helping to bake and DH will oversee the decorating.

I've eaten shit for 3 days straight. Need to pull my finger out, but it's so hard!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 11/09/2021 21:48

Apologies for the pity party earlier in the week and thanks for checking in on me and the good wishes. Trying to take things one step at a time and not outrun my energy while I'm still recovering. Freakish Hellwire is being removed from my toe on Wednesday, so that should make things easier then.

yumyumpoppycat · 12/09/2021 14:02

@shinynewapple21 are you on Mfp? I need to do the same as you - I know it's a bit cliched but I will start logging on Monday (tomorrow!)

@YetAnotherWalk I will definitely look for that cleanser thanks

Oh my goodness I am exactly the same with weekends @LondonGrimmer

My weight is down a smidge so I am counting it is a win. Sadly I feel the same about looking like a beach ball but I doubt it's true for either of us @IWillWashTheGreenWillow and I hope all goes well on wed. Even contemplating healthy eating etc when your injured is a positive - all helps with getting a step closer.

Hope everyone has a lovely sun.

YetAnotherWalk · 13/09/2021 21:14

How did logging go @yumyumpoppycat?

I've managed to get my eating back into control and stuck to a 7 1/2 hour window.

Hope you're alright @IWillWashTheGreenWillow and that the pain is improving.

Did you find an outfit @LondonGrimmer?

LondonGrimmer · 13/09/2021 22:13

Evening all.

Wow, a 7.5hr eating window is brilliant - well done @YetAnotherWalk. What did you eat in that window?

I did find a dress on Saturday thank you! Was a bit of a journey but got there in the end. Need a couple of stitches put in at the front due to being "large of nork" as they say on here.

My eating has been a little all over the place, but I did do a 9 mile walk today with a friend. Tomorrow I have an afternoon tea for a colleague but planning on swerving the crisps and clotted cream. Have a hectic day with work/school stuff but have healthy stuff for tea planned all week (mainly home made chilli, salad, spag bol).

Hope everyone has good weeks Smile

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 14/09/2021 02:39

Ugh. Wheels have rather come off, am in A&E with blood clots on lungs. Had a lovely ride in an ambulance and now know I do not react well to morphine.

This is my point at which I get my shit together when I get out of hospital.

yumyumpoppycat · 14/09/2021 12:15

Oh my goodness @IWillWashTheGreenWillow Thanks ThanksThanks I hope everything goes ok in hospital

YetAnotherWalk · 14/09/2021 13:44

Goodness @IWillWashTheGreenWillow so you did have clots after they told you that you didn't? Angry Take care of yourself.

Glad you found something @LondonGrimmer uhm, to my shame none of it was good. A hot choc and brownie, a meal deal for lunch and then roast chicken and cous cous for tea. I really really need to get a hold of myself! Feels impossible.

Nearing the end of the book i'm reading and so far I've picked up - I probably have candida overgrowth in my gut, fluoride and fillings are like poison for a thyroid (I have bad teeth, so plenty of both) fluxotine is awful - been on it before and contemplated if things get bad this winter to do so again. Also really no soft drinks, bread, pasta, cake - a low GI diet with limited carbs really is what he proposes...Sad basically everything I eat and like! Blush

Waves to @yumyumpoppycat and @shinynewapple21

shinynewapple21 · 14/09/2021 16:05

That sounds very concerning @IWillWashTheGreenWillow. I hope you will recover soon .

Impressed with the 9 mile walk @LondonGrimmer

And also impressed with the 7.5 hour eating window @YetAnotherWalk it's all I can do to keep my eating in a 12 hour window.

I used to do MFP ages ago @yumyumpoppycat but I admit it's a bit of a bind as so many things I know the calorie count for anyway and it seems to take longer trying to find things on the MFP app. I normally just work things out roughly from packet information or what I already know and make a rough note . Not very accurate I admit. Also completely fall down with eating out or takeaways which are high in calories anyway .

One of my problems in sticking to things is I get recommended some new book and then completely change my eating plan. For example I was following the ideas from 'why we eat too much' which is where I got the 'can eat carbs but not wheat or sugar'. Now reading a book which is about longevity and is recommending reduced protein, lots of veg and beans, some whole grain, occasional fish and chicken (which I don't eat so will replace with fish). I am doing well so far and I woke up less bloated .
