Frolicking through February

Octopus37 · 01/02/2021 08:19

Think I might have used a similar title last year, but here goes. Hopefully we might move towards frolicking cause things have got to improve in February right.

Weighed in at 9st4 this morning. A couple of pounds off this month would be great, but I'm mainly working on my motivation and trying to increase my energy levels.

Thanks octopus. Just checking in to stay with you all. 12k steps and 3L water goal today.

drspouse · 01/02/2021 09:30

Morning all, I'm currently attempting not to eat a week's worth of food on Saturday, and to count that day, as other days are mainly going OK, and I'm going to keep up my exercising (walking or cycling only at the moment unfortunately) every day - I did 100k walking and over 50 cycling in Jan.

I have not so far needed to VERY vigilant about my macros but I'm checking where I have a choice of snacks that they don't make it worse, e.g. having nuts rather than dried fruit if I need protein, and I'm prepared to go further on the macros if I stall.

I should also say that this approach (upping my exercise a lot, counting everything and mainly eating all my exercise calories, and setting a very slow rate of loss) is how I lost 4 stone about 15 years ago and how I lost 2 stone about 8 years ago though in between we've had the dreaded menopause and a hip injury.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 01/02/2021 09:44

Interesting on eating your exercise cals..

Courtney10891 · 01/02/2021 10:04

Happy Feb guys!
I weighed myself this morning and managed to lose 3lbs throughout jan. I know it's not a massive amount but I'm happy with that. Aiming for 5lbs this month. 12 lbs to target weight! Also going to try to do 10,000 minimum steps a day as well as a half hour hiit workout each day.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 01/02/2021 10:15

Here's to a Flatter February! 62.35kg this morning. New routine started with a shower as soon as I get up instead of drinking tea and eating breakfast first. I'm not a fan but it gets me up and about earlier. Ds has done two lots of phonics already and is now on break. There's sunshine today so we will get a walk in later.
Let's make this a great month everyone!

IDontMindMarmite · 01/02/2021 10:26

Has anyone found friends or family getting a little competitive? My sister has started dieting. Her BMI is already at the lower end of normal.

Drink more water.

drspouse · 01/02/2021 10:39

Gosh, Idont that sounds very UNhelpful.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 01/02/2021 11:53

I'm up to 700ml magic water so far and am making porridge for lunch as we have loads of oats. I've logged things on MFP for the first time in weeks too so off to a positive start. The question is can I stick to 15:9??

TheHoneyBadger · 01/02/2021 14:16

Anything other than Fatter February will do! Frolicking sounds nice. At least there will be more light Octopus.

Currently entering my eating window with a big bowl of prawns. Trying to up my protein these days as in theory it's a lot of fullness for not too many calories and I love prawns. I've ordered lots of eggs, beef steak, prawns and fish in my shopping that's coming tomorrow and I have plenty of chicken in the freezer that needs using.

Probably fish and a lot of veg and a tiny bit of rice for dinner tonight. I have some halo in the freezer that will be a nice treat if I keep my calories low enough for it.

I would love to lose the weight I regained over the last couple of months in February but will settle for less so long as it's all going in the right direction.

Mimilondon39 · 01/02/2021 16:03

Honeybadger I am with you - counting calories feels like a faff but it does work. I tried to cut out alcohol/bread/sweets in the week and then ended up going crazy at the weekend instead...

I know I need to get to get back keeping a fitness journal/MFP but it's hard to find the motivation - getting into a swimming costume seems VERY far away and I seem to spend most of my time in a puffer coat or pjs at the moment. Any motivational tips very welcome!

FlatteredRhubardFool · 01/02/2021 17:49

I'm not a fan of counting calories either as it's too easy for me to get obsessed. I'm being kind to myself and allowing 1500 a day to ease me back in and keep with the slow and steady. It's still a deficit of at least 500 a day and might help me stick to the 15:9 better. I'll probably reduce down to 1250 once I'm back on track.
We went out for a walk and I'm nearly at my daily 10k step target. The weather tomorrow looks crap but I'll try and get a walk in anyway.
I feel positive after a good start to the month. We can do this!

TheHoneyBadger · 01/02/2021 19:54

Looking like I'll only have about a 500 cal deficit today.

I think 5 days into this week I have a deficit of at least 4500 being conservative in my confidence in exercise calories. Two days to go

Tmi warning but I've finally had a bm and that and my period should help the scales. I'll sneak a peak tomorrow. Pretty inactive day today due to remote teaching and an after work nap 😴 Going to check the weather and hopefully get out for walks tomorrow.

Happy new month everyone.

drspouse · 01/02/2021 20:04

Not a very active day so I've only got enough left for an Options for snack!

FlatteredRhubardFool · 01/02/2021 21:30

Goals achieved for day 1 Smile
Hope you've all had a good start to the new month.

Frolicking through February
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 01/02/2021 21:49

19k steps done, v pleased. 2.5L water. Meals vg, some snacking.

TheHoneyBadger · 01/02/2021 23:10

You must be a lot slimmer than me rhubarb. I have burnt that many caps on a near stationary day. I need to prepare myself for having to work harder for the same calorie burn as I get slimmer.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 02/02/2021 00:04

@TheHoneyBadger I'm 62.35kg and my maintenance calories are 1700 at the moment with not doing much. My maintenance is usually about 2,000 but with the lack of school run twice a day I'm not doing half as much as normal.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 02/02/2021 08:41

I've woken up with a cracking headache this morning which is probably due to both the crick in my neck and sudden decrease in food lack of chocolate. I'll adapt and I'm very happy that I didn't eat after 5.30pm yesterday.
I've not weighed myself today. I'll stick to every other day to try and keep the obsessiveness under control.
Have a good day everyone and don't forget the magic water Star

Octopus37 · 02/02/2021 08:42

Its a no weigh day for me today. Eating so so yesterday, too many carbs, its all I want though. I did manage to do a HITT workout with the boys for their football, steps and water could have been better or worse.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/02/2021 10:07

Sorry for your headache rhubarb. Maybe a bit of sugar withdrawal?

It feels like summer again today because ds is home learning I'm having to deal with all the sniping. Irritatingly he won't ask questions of the teacher during the live part then expects me to know which piece of work she was telling them to go back and do and is quite irritated that I'm not bloody psychic!

He's got another live lesson starting in about 25 minutes.

I'm well aware a 13yo should be able to do this all independently but it seems like he takes being asked to work as a huge personal affront.

Be glad you don't teach him!

TheHoneyBadger · 02/02/2021 10:09

I forgot which thread I was posting on because I got dragged off to help with geography Blush First bit was for here then when I came back I thought I was posting on a teaching thread.

Sorry.

14:10 today which is 2lbs lost since Thursday if I can hold onto it.

drspouse · 02/02/2021 12:13

rhubarb be careful you haven't suddenly cut down on caffeine, either, e.g. if you are cutting out snacks but have not had the coffee you normally have with the biscuit!

FlatteredRhubardFool · 02/02/2021 17:55

I don't drink coffee but have had my usual amount of tea. It will be the lack of chocolate I'm sure.
I'm in under calories today at 1427 Smile

Octopus37 · 02/02/2021 17:59

HoneyBadger, sounds as if you are doing well. I feel your pain re your 13 year old, I know mine is taking lots of short cuts and he overslept and missed his tutor reading this morning. As for my 10 year old (11 next week), we had a full on swearing fit about learning about the holy books of hinduism today. Just had a walk, as well as walking to town and back before, just over 8,000 steps (hopefully there have been some more steps in the house). About to have pie with veg for dinner. Trying to do more work from home at the moment cause I dont live far from one of the South African variant hotspots.

I've fucked up with food today. Agreed to fish and chips then ate half a packet of biscuits Angry Will have to try and make up for it tomorrow. It was that kind of exhaustion eating. I think my body mistakes tiredness for hunger sometimes and screams for food it doesn't actually need.

Ho hum.
