Weight loss for those with a 40+ BMI

TrinityWaves · 24/01/2021 15:55

Anyone else at the start of their weight loss journey with a BMI over 40?

I thought starting this thread might make me more accountable.

I'm 5ft 5, weigh 265lbs, I'm in my early 30's.

I'd love to chat to others in a similar position, almost all my friends and extended family are slim! (My DH is also trying to loose weight, lower BMI than me though.)

@NeonStones please share any top tips! Especially if you find anything helpful for vegetarians. Low carb works for me but as a vegetarian I find it a bit of a slog.

SparklyTroll · 08/04/2021 13:51

Hahaha thank you for such a warm welcome!

FlatEarthling · 08/04/2021 16:56

For those who are newish to the thread, weigh in day is Friday.
I'm up about 6lbs in a week! PMT and misery I suspect. Makes a fattening combination.
I'll let you all know tomorrow.
Today has been much better. Thank goodness for that.

SparklyTroll · 08/04/2021 17:18

I’ll do another weigh in and start tomorrow 🤞🏻 I’m not following any diets as this needs to be changes that I can maintain and the thought of counting calories and weighing all my food makes me want to stuff all the kids Easter eggs in my mouth! I’m going to try cutting out my snacking, have a proper breakfast (instead of half a pack of biccies with a cup of tea) and go from there!

Pepsee · 08/04/2021 18:16

I’d love to join! So ashamed I have 7 stone to lose. I have lost 6 stone in the past and put most of it back on. Need a kick up the arse and some motivation Blush

TrinityWaves · 08/04/2021 22:51

@SparklyTroll - I lasted about 4 hours on the Cambridge, definitely not for me either

Welcome everyone new!

FlatEarthling · 09/04/2021 11:18

@chalkyc2 pat on the back for you! Do you feel any different yet?

NeonStones · 09/04/2021 11:42

It’s not my official weigh in day either. But I’ve lost 1.5kg since Monday.

5/4 - 118.5kg
9/4 - 117kg

NeonStones · 09/04/2021 11:44

You are doing brilliantly @chalkyc2, well done, how do you feel. And you too @FlatEarthling, has it given you a boost?

chalkyc2 · 09/04/2021 11:54

So the thing is - no one has noticed (well - only this that know I'm on a diet), My clothes just feel better but I haven't dropped a size (maybe have been squeezing in!!). I can feel it but honestly 2 stone gone but it's a drop in the ocean really!! Will keep going. I'm on week 9 of 12 of the fast 800 - slightly scared what happens when I finish week 12!!

Stellaris22 · 09/04/2021 13:29

I'd like to join this chat too. I have six stone minimum to lose. Main motivation is to be able to start horse riding again and I need to drastically lose weight to do that.

Been doing the SW diet again as I find it the easiest to follow and stick to.

Starting exercise properly next week and meeting a Personal Trainer who can tell me how to actually exercise properly.

PinkArt · 09/04/2021 18:28

3 pounds down this week. 2 of which were the ones I gained last week - gah!
Another 3 and I'll have lost the Pandemic Stone and can set myself a new target. Just need to ignore that Easter egg in the kitchen....

Thisseatisnotavailable · 10/04/2021 12:31

Hi all, I'm back. Welcome newbies too.

So after a week off plan last week I put on 1lb, which I was quite pleased with, I tried to eat mindfully still, I did have a bit of a binge on Friday, and definitely had too much wine on Sunday, but despite a killer hangover on Monday I have managed to get back on plan this week and have lost 4lbs, so total 53lbs lost this year.

Well done Chalky, you've done brilliantly. Have you thought about taking a week off the 800 plan and then doing another 12 weeks on it. I am doing a VLCD, which is similar but with food replacement packs rather than real food as I find it easier that way. I feel good for having a week break, catching up with some friends and family and having a few 'normal' meals and a few drinks etc. I do feel good to be back on it now though and ready for another 12 weeks and hopefully another 3 stone loss.

MrsTWH · 11/04/2021 10:59

Hi everyone. Hope you don’t mind me sneaking in!
I’ve literally just had a medical for a life insurance policy and it was an eye opener. I feel really crap.

I weigh 104kg and I’m 5f7 which gives me a BMI of 35.5. I have gained and lost this weight 3 times now and I’m so cross with myself that I’m back here again. I’m actually not quite at my heaviest ever weight but not far off. I’m about to turn 39 and I don’t want to be obese on my 40th birthday.

I eat when I’m sad, angry, bored, happy... I need to find new ways of dealing with emotions and get back into exercise.

It’s my birthday in a couple of weeks and this coincides with the pubs and restaurant gardens reopening and so we have lots planned. Part of me thinks “I’ll start on 26th” but that just gives me 2 more weeks to get fatter... anyone got any spare willpower?!

PoppityPop · 11/04/2021 13:57

@chalkyc2
Do you mind my asking what you plan to do at the end of the Fast800? I started a week before you so am just at the end of week 10. I start with a BMI of 38 and it’s now 32 so I still have a lot to lose. I’m wondering whether to switch to Atkins/Keto instead. I’ve done the Fast800 lower carb than they suggest as I find it more effective so I suppose I just need to do more of the same absurd with more calories. It’s a bit scary!

chalkyc2 · 11/04/2021 14:28

Hey @PoppityPop - I was thinking I'd do maybe 3:4 - so 3 days at maybe 1200 cal and 4 days back at 800? I've been doing plan with my husband but he is pretty close to target whilst I'll be way off - so I'm thinking will be more difficult now 😬

SheldonesqueHasTheWeevils · 11/04/2021 14:36

Sneaking in also. Properly fat.

I grew a fat cloak of ‘disguise’ and I’ve yet to hang it back on the peg.

I need to change.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 11/04/2021 16:56
@SparklyTroll welcome! Fresh blood always needed.
Most of the other diet threads are for skinny people, we want properly fat here!
THIS made me feel brave enough (I know that sounds stupid) to post

My BMI is far nearer 50 than 40, getting to 40 is a huge & far away goal, the last time I was that weight was a decade & 3 children ago Shock

Anyway I’m committing on this thread to 12 weeks of fast 800 (although I will be achieving that via paleo & OMAD and I’m giving myself 5 wildcard days to use for family birthdays or if there is a really good ice cream van on a sunny day). I’ll probably report sticking to it rather than weight loss at the start as it usually takes 6 weeks before my body actually weighs less Hmm

Like Garfield I’m starting on Monday Grin

SheldonesqueHasTheWeevils · 11/04/2021 17:00

I’m the same gibbons. I don’t recognise myself anymore and my BMI is similar. Short of stature too so about as wide as tall - or at least I feel it.

Bon chance tomorrow Smile

FlatEarthling · 11/04/2021 17:14

I'm having a disastrous time. I had weeks of doing well, then I cracked and not only that now I have hurt my leg and can barely stand up.
I'm actually going to have few days off as sick leave, as I can't work.

Welcome to our new properly fat team members.
