I want to join. I really should complete a cycle. It's so cold. Anyone doing couch to 5k?

fingersdoublecrossed · 01/01/2021 11:29

I'm ready to do this!

Hoping to jump start over the next few days before back to work. Partner and I are doing a mostly vegetarian diet this January with a bit of fish here and there to keep us motivated.

I've just paid for a year on Nutracheck (which has worked for me before) and set up my profile again with my preferences. I'm going to aim for slightly higher protein and slightly lower carb. Easier day planned for Saturdays. I'm going to track alcohol calories to give me a bit of a wake up call.

I'm also going to restart C25K but not until the snow melts! I'll just go for a walk today, I think.

I want to lose 10 pounds and then maintain. Sick of jumping up and down the scales.

I'm more of a lurker than a poster.
Good luck everyone and happy New Year! 🤞

Morning all of you.

I am so upset with myself. I braved the scales and I am 12st 5.75lbs. I am only 5'4 and look like a barrel.

I would like to say that I don't know how I ended up so heavy but I've been a greedy pig since the first lockdown. All I do is eat at the moment.

I am so on it as from today.

Is everyone ok with a weekly weigh in on Fridays?

fingersdoublecrossed · 01/01/2021 11:43

Friday is good for me!

BliainNua · 01/01/2021 12:04

Hi, I'd love to join in too! I haven't told anyone how unhappy I am with my weight; it's a vicious circle of weighing myself, being unhappy, comfort eating and just getting heavier 😔
Ok, I'll own up - I've weighed myself this morning and am (shockingly, even to me!) 16st 12.4 - I could cry!!!
Not sure if I can stick to any kind of diet or fitness regime but something has to give - so I'm hoping this thread will inspire & encourage me!
Guess I'll need a plan that's workable; that's today's job......

10kaDay · 01/01/2021 12:22

Morning all, would love to join you! I have 3-4 stone to lose, would love to have 2 gone by Easter ... I’ve gained this WFH sitting and snacking in 2020 Blush

My plan:
-active EVERY day ... 10k steps or other exercise (eg jogging, yoga , HIIT videos. Need to build a bit of a base first as lost fitness)

  • diet - whole food, low-fat vegetarian diet
  • cutting out/down empty calories - dry January and no junk (crisps, sugar) in Jan at least then I will work out what I’d like to do about those long term

To be a bit more specific on diet... I’m a vegetarian, tend to eat too much cheese, bread, potatoes, pizza etc, but do also enjoy healthier dishes.
My daily meal plan is going to be:

  • porridge with fruit for breakfast
  • bean or lentil and veg soup/stew or wrap and salad for lunch
  • then similar stew or a couple of times a week some kind of veggie protein main and veg for dinner - veggie burger, sausages, omelette etc

I’m adapting Joel Fuhrmans eat to live or ‘nutriarian’ with a TINY amount of dairy/ eggs added (eg 2 serving cheese/yogurt a week, 2-6 eggs a week). With this plan you get carbs once or twice a day, with beans and veg the main food groups. I’ve done it before (in 2019) with great success, then got lazy!

  • the lunch wraps, and veggie sausage etc dinners are to make it a little more varied

I feel that 2021 could be quite a great time to diet: much as I hate living under restrictions the lack of social life means I won’t have to plan around nights out/restaurant meals etc so wanting to use this time to focus on getting to a healthy weight

I weigh in weekly on Thu so will report on Friday

10kaDay · 01/01/2021 12:26

PS - have got a Fitbit now to track activity, and have rid house of Xmas food/treats... my nice chocolates I got at Xmas are going to be opened at Easter 🐣 🍫 Halo

10kaDay · 01/01/2021 12:28

Lastly ... am using MFP to track. Also want to do Couch to 5K, but probably starting in Feb (or once group exercise allowed, am in London tier 4)

TiredMummyZZZ · 01/01/2021 14:11

I’ve forced myself to do a hiit exercise today, honestly really couldn’t be bothered as we have a teething baby but I thought it I skip the first day of the year I’m never going to do it!

I was going to get ahead of the new year and start yesterday but I was up at 4am so was scoffing after eights to keep me awake.

I really need to stick to it this time, I’m getting married in august and I’ve piled so much weight on I don’t recognise myself, I don’t know what my fiancé still sees in me to be honest.

Our for a pram walk when I get my breath back!

micc · 01/01/2021 14:26

My scales are not working currently (thank God!) My goal is to fit back into my pre baby Jean's! I even have a pair from my peek when I was so fit, they are my long term goal!!
Did my first couch to 5k run this morning and it went well. My nyr is to cook more, we just had breaded cod and veg for lunch :) probably ate more veg than I needed. But I'm still breastfeeding and hungry 24/7. I'd rather fill up on veg. I'm taking it slow I find i jump 100% back in to proper clean eating I wont stick to it if I've gotten into bad habits. Baby steps! I need to learn not to push myself too hard when starting out.

Bubnomore · 01/01/2021 14:45

Count me in!

First step is to get out of bed. Usually my schedule is really hectic, and whilst it’s been quieter recently it has meant lots of snacking and no motivation to get moving.

Know idea what I weigh at the moment but will get on the scales before the end of the day. Definitely could benefit from dropping 1 or 2 stone, just knowing my body, how my clothes fit etc.

You’ve motivated to go out for a walk, and to face the facts and see what I actually weigh.

Soral · 01/01/2021 14:55

I have forced myself to walk the dog. It's so cold today and I hate the cold. It wasn't too bad once I got going and I'm glad that I made the effort.

Just made myself scrambled eggs and tomatoes on toast. Only had one slice of toast which is an improvement on my usual three slices.

Have dug out my old Fitbit and charged it and it still works.

fingersdoublecrossed · 01/01/2021 16:37

Just back from walking the dog. Really fancy a glass of Prosecco but going to hold off and just have a hot drink instead. Going to have to exert some self-control this evening!

BliainNua · 01/01/2021 17:35

Only a short walk today, due to grumpy teenagers and DH with a sore foot only managed 1km. Still I guess it's 1km more than usual.
Exercise aim for this week: walk 15km in total (I know it's small, but I need to start small and see how I get on)
Food aim: eat healthy, no take aways
Weight loss aim: no idea, I'll say 1lbs to start

Bubnomore · 01/01/2021 17:49

I made it out of my PJs and went for a walk...6k steps later it feels the year is already off to a positive start.

Sideorderofchips · 01/01/2021 17:57

Yep I started my slim fast good a d proper today abd went for a long walk with the kids

redfernsydney · 01/01/2021 18:10

Can I join? I weighed in today. ,10 st 10 but I am only 5ft 1 I want to get une 1st so 11 lbs (at least )
I got a copy of HFW. eat better forever. .and I intend to follow the principles set out in there. .which is nothing outrageously new.eat whole foods, limit processed food amongst others.

I gave up drinking in Nov and and today gave up sugar in my tea....Small steps
I generally do a half hour workout most days ...good luck everybody!

redfernsydney · 01/01/2021 18:12

Sorry, under 10 stone not 1

borowren · 01/01/2021 19:16

Can I join? I need to lose 3 -4 stone ( probably closer to 4!)
Have spent my life trying to lose weight...going to try a slow and steady approach this time, see if that helps me stick with it!
I'm happy with a Friday weigh in...although I'm a daily weighed anyway.

squiddybear · 01/01/2021 19:18

Can I join please. Have 4 stone to loose by October as that is (hopeful!!!!) wedding day! (Was supposed to be tomorrow but at least this gives me more time to look the part!)

Averyhungrycaterpillar · 01/01/2021 19:42

Can I join too please? Lockdown and a new (well, 9 month old) baby, I desperately need to lose the baby weight. Pre pregnancy I was 10st4 and a comfy 12, now I'm roughly 14st and a tight 16. Would like to just feel comfortable in myself, as I hate myself in the mirror at the minute.
Plan ahead - less junk, more fruit and veg
Exercise - Adriene 30 days of yoga, try for 10k steps a day and possibly start C25K.

Soral · 01/01/2021 19:51

Hello to the new joiners. We can all do this!

OP posts:
ConorMasonsWife · 01/01/2021 21:04

I'll join. I've joined another as well but I can't have too many to keep me focused! I weighed this morning and I'm 13 stone 5, I'm 5ft8. It's not AS bad as I expected but it's not ideal. I need to set small targets so I think this month I'll aim for 13stone. More would be bloody lovely but I'll see how I do I guess!

borowren · 01/01/2021 21:22

@ConorMasonsWife I agree...small targets are the way to go.
I've told myself a loss of a pound or more each week. More than a pound would be fabulous...but a pound a week will be enough.
I think I've failed in the past by having too high an expectation/goal and then giving up when I fall short.
