Exercise Accountability - anyone want to be exercise buddies?

Over this year I have really lost condition and I'd like to start doing some daily exercise to make up for the fact that I'm at home all the time now. Anyone want to join me for some daily accountability?
My plan is to do at least 20 minutes of YouTube yoga each day and increase the amount I'm walking by doing long walks on my days off.

Hope everyone is ok. I finally set up my exercise tracker and have a list of things to choose from. Now to find the energy and motivation to actually do them 🙄😳

I am still wiped from a longer walk than usual on Thursday

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 09/01/2021 22:12

I have a yoga planner pinned up @SingToTheSky... so far we are up to day 1 Grin

I've managed to hurt my foot somehow, I think it started with trying to wear in my new walking boots, but now they are (reasonably) comfy and my foot feels almost sprained still! I'm not doing a huge amount of walking - taking the DC out for one good walk a day for them to run off some energy but only getting to 10K or so - and resting it completely isn't an option, I'm not sure what else I can try?!

SingToTheSky · 09/01/2021 23:09

Day 1 is better than day 0!

graceful2021 · 10/01/2021 07:31

I have had 2 kids and have a gut I am wanting to loos weight by March and I am super body conscious about the way I look I need help and ideas to lose it between work at Walmart and playing with the kids and home work at hoMe

BrimfulOfBaba · 11/01/2021 12:24

I've been on and off all week/weekend. I'm doing a BBG programme which involves 3 circuits a week (core, arms, legs). Yesterday I left myself with core and legs to do with only an hour to do it in...also I've lost so much strength from being lazy over December, so I only did half of each.

This week will do all 3 circuits properly, and 3 sessions on the cross trainer (at least 30 mins each time). I've moved my wedding dress fitting by a couple of weeks in the hope of giving myself some time to undo the festive fluff!

Good luck this week, everyone!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 12/01/2021 23:13

@SingToTheSky we did day 2 of the yoga today Grin

It was Joe Wicks for us yesterday, blimey, I was quite sweaty and achey afterwards!

Good luck with the circuit training @BrimfulOfBaba! Do you have a wedding date or is it subject to change in these strange times?

SingToTheSky · 12/01/2021 23:19

Yay well done!
I had to walk faster to nursery this morning and we were still late 😳 but at least I got my heart rate right up 😳

Played on ringfit this evening too so the most active day I’ve had this year

SingToTheSky · 13/01/2021 10:01

I know it’s early days but I’m seeing the benefit of routine now. Last term DH was doing virtually all the nursery runs but it was causing a lot of pain so I’m trying to stick to doing the mornings (which also means I have to make more effort to go to sleep at a vaguely sensible hour). I had to walk quickly again today to get in on time so I think I’ll leave five minutes earlier in future just in case I’m late again but I know it was good to get me working hard.

Then DH and DS will collect at 12 which means I get some time on my own, I was using this time just for piano (and Super Mario 😳😂) but I’m going to try and do some exercise when they first leave to make the most of having the living room to myself - small YouTube workout or something.

Brimful I got so unfit over December 😳 good luck with the circuit training!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 13/01/2021 22:33

@SingToTheSky a routine is helping us in these odd times too - either PE with Joe or kids yoga, plus an hour or so outside usually in the pouring rain - helps to tire out the DC and give them a bit of structure to the day. All their usual activities are cancelled and I can't take them to swimming/ soft play/ anywhere too far away for a decent walk but at least this way I get to my 10K steps a day...

(Mind you DS2 had an enormous tantrum whilst on our walk yesterday, I'm not sure either of us felt better by the end of it Hmm)

SingToTheSky · 14/01/2021 09:28

Ugh tantrums are even worse when out of the house aren’t they? I hate that. In a way I’ve been relieved not to be taking my littlest to many of the busy places that seemed to set my big two off (looking back some of them were autism related meltdowns due to sensory overload and I strongly suspect littlest is the same) as I’ve not had to deal with so many issues 😳 it does make life rather dull though doesn’t it, being so limited in what we can actually do. Her life is just nursery, park by nursery or park by our house, occasionally a supermarket or Boots in town for the pharmacy. I really need to make more effort to keep her busy at home but I feel quite overwhelmed with everything else that needs doing!

Just got back from the nursery run in heaving rain, going to have a hot shower and get into my gym clothes but I’m not sure I’ll do any more exercise today, maybe some yoga or ringfit this evening.

BrimfulOfBaba · 14/01/2021 16:22

Thanks @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl! Wedding date is set for June 12th but we aren't daring to hope it will stay that way at the moment...! Ah, Joe Wickes' workouts leave me feeling so sore and close to death. Love them!

Thank you @SingToTheSky - gosh you have lots on your plate. Hope you manage to squeeze in some time for yourself :)

BrimfulOfBaba · 14/01/2021 16:23

I've started a new challenge in the Sweat app, mainly because I know another lady doing it so it feels like I am doing it with someone, as sad as that is...! My last few circuits have left me too sore to workout for days, but I think my muscles are slowly getting used to more activity now. I do feel a bit more comfy in my clothes now than I did straight after Christmas. Yay!

picklemewalnuts · 17/01/2021 08:37

I've made a list of things I want to do weekly- exercise but also cleaning and craft type things. I just need to be more active/productive/energetic.

BrimfulOfBaba · 17/01/2021 09:59

That's really cool @picklemewalnuts what's on your list? I've made one too and am half thinking about making myself a wallchart to keep me on track...like a nursery school child!

picklemewalnuts · 17/01/2021 11:58

I might tweak my idea to a productivity list, to recognise what I do rather than what I don't, and see if I can make it grow!

On my list already:
Cooking every day
Tai chi every week day (am going to add doing a form at the weekend day as well to that!)
6 hours work
Church
Parish Council work and monthly meetings.
Organising the weekly dinner distribution rota.
Own laundry.
Fortnightly Fibro management class.

To add:
Weekly dog walk
2 Weekly craft/project/music sessions
Weekly cleaning session- bathrooms or kitchen/utility.
5,000 steps a day
Go somewhere once a week.

I want that to be routine by Easter! My husband does vacuuming, dusting, changing the bed sheets and his own laundry. The kids do their areas of the house, laundry and clear up after dinner. Teamwork makes the dream work...!

picklemewalnuts · 17/01/2021 12:00

I do a food journal (on slimming world), @BrimfulOfBaba , so think I'll add a weekly page and checklist to that.

SingToTheSky · 17/01/2021 12:07

I am using a bullet journal type thing for the same reason. :o

I am not doing well on activity levels this weekend, anxiety is so high I feel a bit stuck 😡

picklemewalnuts · 17/01/2021 14:24

What helps the anxiety, @SingToTheSky? Get the radio on and have a bop?

SingToTheSky · 17/01/2021 14:35

Not sure TBH pickle I’m usually fairly good at knowing what would help and just going with it, but it seems to be escalating today and everything is just making me feel worse instead of better. I might try and do some ringfit later but I’ll do my last assignment edits first.

picklemewalnuts · 17/01/2021 14:58

Thanks things feel very volatile at the moment. In reality though, little has changed. Stay home. Stay home a bit more. I feel best when I don't plan for the future. Just dwell in the moment a bit. Other people like daydreaming about how things will be when we're allowed out!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 17/01/2021 23:09

Sending Flowers as well @SingToTheSky, I hope you're feeling better now. I had an awful time with DS1 earlier, he was utterly vile, I have to keep reminding myself that he's having a hard time too - just lacks the language skills to communicate it Sad

I'm going to try harder to get the DC outside for longer tomorrow, it feels like DP is determined to turn them into couch potatoes Angry and it really does help everyone's mood to get more fresh air. Just very frustrating that there's no clear guidelines on how far we can go to exercise; we don't have anywhere quiet nearby that we can walk to, it's all quite busy in the local park/ footpaths, and to go further afield is probably a 20 minute drive - is that too far?! Anyhow, issue 1 is getting DP's arse unglued from the sofa and actually out of the door, and sometimes that's enough of a challenge...

I like your journal idea @picklemewalnuts. I'm just worried that I'd never fulfil my other checklists Confused

picklemewalnuts · 18/01/2021 07:31

It sounds like you are busy enough without it, Clara! I'm building up my activity levels after a period of illness/severe stress, and need to challenge myself to get off the sofa more! I don't have small children to worry about.

SingToTheSky · 18/01/2021 12:01

I have enjoyed being more active today. Left earlier for nursery run so I wasn’t exhausted and got her out of the buggy earlier (trying to get her used to walking more, but it’s not easy as neither of us are able to carry her if she refuses). I then felt ok enough to do some more ringfit just now (did some last night too). Feel like I’m getting back into exercise again, I just have to be careful not to overdo it as I still need to cope with the nursery run.

Anxiety is slightly easing now thank you x

picklemewalnuts · 18/01/2021 13:51

Well done!

I did a rehab type course, where we assessed what we could manage, took 20% off, and did that every day without fail. After two/four weeks consistently managing at that level, we added 10%, and repeat. It was really good for me, and great to see the numbers building up. It began with things like moving a tin of beans from one side of the table to the other, swapping hands each time, and getting in and out of a chair, etc. Functional exercise.
Graduated programmes get a bad rep, but they have their place.

SingToTheSky · 18/01/2021 14:51

I agree. I was part of a study at st barts although at the time I wasn’t able to cope with doing the exercise. But basically it’s what I ended up doing after a virus in March (I do think we had covid tbh but obviously wasn’t tested then) caused a massive flare up of the ME. I had to start by walking to the end of our tiny garden and sitting on a bench. Then I increased it to the postbox etc.
