Exercise Accountability - anyone want to be exercise buddies?

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 12/11/2020 13:14

Over this year I have really lost condition and I'd like to start doing some daily exercise to make up for the fact that I'm at home all the time now. Anyone want to join me for some daily accountability?
My plan is to do at least 20 minutes of YouTube yoga each day and increase the amount I'm walking by doing long walks on my days off.

Ah for the joys of the school run again @picklemewalnuts Grin mind you, mine will only be back for three weeks before the Easter holidays, annoyingly!

Last term I was running two or three times a week - I'd drop them at school (we walk there) and run home, taking a longer route. So really it didn't take me much longer than just walking back, but it was a good way to fit in a run it helped that it was downhill

Ouch! about your neck. I had whiplash many years ago (someone drove into a car I was in) and even now I can remember how much it hurt. DP is desperate for a physio session on his back, but of course that's all off at the moment too Sad

SingToTheSky · 25/02/2021 09:01

I stayed in yesterday. Had a shielding letter and just crashed a bit TBH. I am still allowed out for daily exercise it seems, my motivation just vanished though.

Really awful not to be able to have physio and that sort of thing right now 😩

picklemewalnuts · 25/02/2021 09:07

Oh sing, how frustrating for you!

SingToTheSky · 25/02/2021 09:13

Yeah 😬 it knocked me a bit but I was sort of expecting it - as I’d read on here about lots of women with a history of GD. I had it diagnosed in my third pregnancy (youngest is 3) although definitely developed it late on with my 11yo, he was enormous and had low blood sugar. But still not nice to see the letter. It did mean I could book my jab though! So that’s on Saturday 😱

It says it’s guidance not law. So really if I wanted to completely ignore it I could. And I’m still convinced I had covid already (in March)... but who knows?! TBH it’s not a massive difference anyway, I don’t have a job to worry about. I’ve stopped the nursery runs for now but with DH’s conditions he will be shattered from doing all of them plus any errands, that’s why we shared it.

picklemewalnuts · 25/02/2021 11:20

Our local surgeries are telling people not to shield or vaccinate for gestational diabetes, if that helps. I mean, by all means get the vax, but don't feel obliged to shield if you don't want to. Perhaps have a google, then decide.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 26/02/2021 09:50

Hi all, just caught up on the thread. Sounds like you're having a rough time @SingToTheSky. I'm really sorry to hear it, anxiety and depression are a horrible thing to live with. They do come and go like weather in my experience though so it's worth hanging on for a sunny day.
Hope everyone else is ok.
My exercise for today will be lots of walking

SingToTheSky · 26/02/2021 09:55

Thanks pickle tbh the receptionist clearly thought it was overkill 😂 she booked me in for the jab anyway. My MH being so shit ATM means it’s probably more important right now.

picklemewalnuts · 26/02/2021 13:50

Very good! Glad you are booked in.

I've walked in the sun today. It's glorious.
I have a to do list as long as my arm, and I'm working hard at avoiding it!

SingToTheSky · 26/02/2021 13:54

It does look really nice today! About to go out but it’s to catch Pokémon so won’t be walking as much. Yesterday I impulsively went a much further route, so more proper walking

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 26/02/2021 22:39

Glad you have your jab appointment @SingToTheSky! Everyone I know who's had it had a very positive experience, fingers crossed yours goes well too.

We did a longer walk this morning but only to get to a park slightly further away Grin planning on a short drive tomorrow to get to a bigger park. The idea is to get there early so the DC can use the play equipment and then head to the outskirts to avoid the crowds!

@picklemewalnuts my to do list is parked until March 8th...

picklemewalnuts · 27/02/2021 08:01

That'll be good- hope you have a good trip! DH has taken the dog out without me, so I'll be on the trampette later.

I can't park my to do list until March 8th, as no children to blame it on! I did make strides yesterday though.

I'm hoping to get productive again when my shoulder eases up. It's been really twingey. Like sciatica, but in my back!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 27/02/2021 22:23

We weren't as early as I'd have liked @picklemewalnuts as DP didn't get his arse into gear but we did get to the park in the end. There was a queue to get onto the play equipment (COVID marshals were letting one in, one out), I thought the DC were going to explode with excitement waiting for their turn!!

Sympathies about the shoulder. I had a trapped nerve in mine once and it was extremely ouchy Shock

SingToTheSky · 27/02/2021 22:30

Walked to town today. Was going to wait for the bus home after my jab but did actually walk back as well - uphill - so I’m pleased about that

picklemewalnuts · 28/02/2021 07:48

Well done, sing!

I totally dodged exercise yesterday, and probably will today as well. I had an unfortunate constipation event yesterday Blush and now have a tear. Feel like I've been kicked up the rear by a horse!

Its not my usual habit- not sure what went wrong. I'll have to keep an eye on it as I don't want it happening again!

picklemewalnuts · 28/02/2021 07:53

And I comforted myself with half a bag of m&ms and some Doritos. Oh well, today is a new day!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 28/02/2021 21:44

Ouch @picklemewalnuts Shock hope things are, er, easier soon!

Well done @SingToTheSky! Hope you haven't had any side effects after your jab?

15K steps for me today!! And a Joe Wicks workout this morning. I would even now be polishing my halo except AF started unexpectedly early and I scoffed a slice of cake and a very delicious hot chocolate...

picklemewalnuts · 01/03/2021 08:13

That's an excellent active day, Clara!
I'm back on the activity bus today. My back is complaining from being inactive for two/three days.

It feels a bit like as one thing eases, another flares up at the moment. Still. What can't be cured must be endured 🤣

SingToTheSky · 01/03/2021 08:22

Ouuuch pickle! That sounds really painful.

My activity yesterday was various bits of housework (including a complete sort and clean of the freezer because DS left it slightly open overnight). I actually felt motivated with the house stuff and although it was lovely and sunny I knew if I went on a proper walk I’d end up shattered. So I just walked to spin the nearest Pokémon stop on my phone and back :o

Definitely feeling the jab - headaches and chills and my arm is sore. Not really sure about the more fatigue/achy type symptoms as CFS/fibro mean that’s fairly common for me 😂 but anyway it’s not been awful. Today will be restful, just home ed with DS and I’ll do the same brief Pokémon walk later to complete my 7 day streak mission :o

picklemewalnuts · 01/03/2021 09:51

It's terrible, isn't it, sing? Not being able to work out what's a normal level of daily ache and pain and what needs more careful attention!

SingToTheSky · 01/03/2021 09:58

Yeah! Very annoying. In a way I’m used to it now but I was doing a lot better for most of last year - got quite fit (by my standards) in lockdown 1 so it’s frustrating.

I am also meant to be starting on an SSRI now, to help the anxiety. I was thinking I’d just get all the side effects out of the way in one go but my GP is wary about the risk of serotonin syndrome (because of interaction with the other medication I’m on). That can make you feel quite flu like too. It’s such a tiny chance but I think it’s probably better not to risk it so I’ll wait a few more days.

picklemewalnuts · 01/03/2021 11:28

Frustrating.
I'm pleased to announce my nether regions are less painful! Bleeding still, but that will pass. My neck/shoulder is still twinging, but my lower back has decided to join the party.
My blood tests just came back and I'm not to increase my thyroxine, which is a shame. Bah.

But I did Tai Chi, sitting down for some of it but I did it. So three cheers for me! Going for a walk shortly.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 03/03/2021 21:44

Glad to hear you are, er, on the mend, @picklemewalnuts!

How are you feeling now @SingToTheSky, have the jab effects worn off now?

I've been doing PE with Joe every morning and managed my 10K steps yesterday, only on 9K today though. The DC are so squabbly when we go out that I usually end up going home early in a huff - sigh. And AF this week meant I actually couldn't go too far from home (curse you, perimenopause and flooding!). Fingers crossed I'm more energetic by the weekend!

picklemewalnuts · 05/03/2021 08:58

Good old AF. I've discovered white trousers for the first time at age 50. Wouldn't have dreamt of it before, when I was on almost all the time, it felt like. I'm currently on a period every 10 months or so, so it's a bit more manageable!

I did 9k with a friend yesterday. I was very careful when I came back- sat on upright chairs and kept moving every ten minutes, stayed busy all afternoon. Seemed to do the trick, no unusual stiffness or soreness, and I didn't collapse in an exhausted heap!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 06/03/2021 21:03

I think white trousers will be out of the question for me for a while @picklemewalnuts Grin

I'm impressed by your 9K!! I was intending to do a fairly long walk with DS1 today as he was desperate to go on a bike ride. However DS2 managed to fall off his bike and howled to go home, which put paid to that! I'm on 9K steps but was hoping for a good 10K today...

picklemewalnuts · 07/03/2021 14:36

That's a shame, Clara. Still it was 9k against the odds, so still an achievement!

I'm pleased about my 9k because I didn't suffer for it afterwards. That leaves me hopeful I can build up again and manage a holiday. As Long as I do the whole 'cool down protocol' again.
