Exercise Accountability - anyone want to be exercise buddies?

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 12/11/2020 13:14

Over this year I have really lost condition and I'd like to start doing some daily exercise to make up for the fact that I'm at home all the time now. Anyone want to join me for some daily accountability?
My plan is to do at least 20 minutes of YouTube yoga each day and increase the amount I'm walking by doing long walks on my days off.

I do 5000 on a busy day. Some days I don't reach 2,500 but I'm trying to address that!

PocketsOfPudge · 29/11/2020 19:39

I'd love to join in here if that's ok, I've bought a exercise bike/rowing machine off Facebook today, the computer is broken so I don't have a clue how many calories are burned but my plan is 30 mins a day and alternate which one I use daily.

I struggle to find time to exercise but I think I've realised it's a priority now.

picklemewalnuts · 29/11/2020 19:51

That sounds like a plan! Stick a record on!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 29/11/2020 21:11

Welcome @PocketsOfPudge Smile

Good step count for me today after a dog walk and a DP walk Grin - honestly, I have to force him out of the house some days but he NEEDS to go, he's getting so unfit. Like you @picklemewalnuts he doesn't move much at all during the working day, and it's too dark and cold now when he gets home for us to go out.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 06/12/2020 10:18

Morning all! How is everyone doing with their plans? I've done more that I'd normally do but not hit my targets. Today the plan is for a couple of shortish walks and I'll try to do a yoga video that is more exercise and less meditation

OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 06/12/2020 23:10

Well, I could be dog walking more but am generally hitting 10K steps a day, and TBH my days have been filled with job hunting and house/ Christmas organising! It's hard when it's dark so early as I can't really take the DC out after school unless it's to one of their organised activities.

Why can't I be one of these whippet thin people who love exercise and can't wait to get outside every day to do a 10 mile run and burn off some of their excess energy?! It's all I can do to shuffle downstairs some days...

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 07/12/2020 20:46

10k steps a day is good! I managed a yoga video yesterday. Aiming to do another one in a minute

SingToTheSky · 07/12/2020 20:58

I am not doing well AT ALL. Haven’t been back to the leisure centre since it opened again post lockdown 2 (we are tier 2) - had booked for a different yoga class, but then needed someone to come round for the boiler so cancelled (and then surprise surprise they didn’t show up! I have to pay the no show fee for the class as well). Have suddenly got a busy schedule again - I have got some piano teaching work which I’m so happy about, it also gets me out of the house now that it’s allowed again so that’s brilliant on many levels. I’m hoping that helps me get a bit more active. I’ve not even managed to do the nursery run in weeks and I really need to change that as it’s getting tougher for DH who is in a lot of pain too. Which means I need to sort out my sleep and diet so I don’t wake up late feeling like death each morning! Does anyone else feel like their well-being is like a giant Rubik’s cube and it’s hard to fix one aspect without screwing up another? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 07/12/2020 21:31

The rubiks cube is definitely hard to get right! I just did a half hour yoga video called core ritual and it nearly killed me. Tomorrow I'm going to think I'm getting flu because I'll be all achey.
Sometimes I have success with a 10 minute video if I'm busy, might be worth a try @SingToTheSky?

OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 07/12/2020 22:37

Oh definitely @SingToTheSky (and sorry to hear that your DH is still in pain) - I just seem to have so much (metaphorical!) running to do even to stand still that sometimes making any progress seems unobtainable Sad

My DC finish school a week on Friday - assuming there's no illness/ isolation in the meantime! - so I'm aiming to have some sort of routine in place by then, to have all Christmas-related tasks finished as much as possible, and to have the house reasonably clean before the DC trash it again over the holidays - that way I should have more time to spend with the DC and be doing some exercise to burn off a mince pie or two. Or that's the theory, anyway...

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 09/12/2020 13:59

I managed a swim in a pool today for the first time since march. Lovely! Would recommend :-)

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 09/12/2020 16:25

Ah that’s great iggle! I have to confess I didn’t enjoy swimming on my attempts between lockdowns. I struggle with lane swimming because I have to stop a lot (not mid length! But I mean I can only do a couple at a time without stopping) and I feel really self conscious if people have to swim past me. But I also can’t do breaststroke at all (ache all over when I try) so am too fast for the slow lane 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

I’ve booked for yoga on Tuesday which is exciting. Other than that my main achievement is leaving the house most days but at least I got some walking in thanks to my new tutoring work. I’ve noticed how much easier it is to walk home from town now (we are up a hill) so that’s progress for sure.

I have lost all motivation with home exercise, I just don’t have the energy to fit it in, but I know that’s a vicious cycle really.

I’m glad you guys know what I mean about the rubiks cube! Sadly I find it applies to housework too😣😂

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 11/12/2020 18:49

How was the yoga @SingToTheSky? I've managed a long walk today, but I've now had wine so unlikely to do anything else

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 11/12/2020 19:13

It’s Tuesday that I booked for so haven’t been back yet! Can’t wait though, I love that class.

TBH I am somewhat overwhelmed by life ATM. DH has been totally out of action for several days due to new meds and I've not been able to do my studying etc let alone get out for exercise. I know I’m lacking in motivation too though. I’m torn between thinking fuck it I’ll just wait until New Year, and trying to fit in a few sessions while it’s probably quieter over Christmas.

I just seem to be in a permanent daze tbh, I have managed a bit of walking on the days that required it (ie not going out just for a walk) but that’s it. 😳

SingToTheSky · 14/12/2020 08:30

Had to cancel yoga. DS has an awful cough so as of last night we are all self isolating, I’ve ordered a test. No going for walks either of course. I need to clear some space in our room so I can at least do a little workout on my own.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 14/12/2020 22:23

Sorry to hear that your DS is ill @SingToTheSky - I hope he recovers quickly. DS1 has come down with chicken pox so we can't go out much either! Such a shame as he loves school and is missing a fun week Sad

Hope you are all well @Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket @picklemewalnuts @Onthebrink67

SingToTheSky · 14/12/2020 22:41

Oh no @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl what a rubbish time for chicken pox (not that there’s ever a good time but you know what I mean)

I have a fever today so I’m trying to get myself a test too. Have been feeling dizzy/achy as well so I think I’ve finally succumbed to whatever the others have had (they’ve all been under the weather but only DS had a continuous cough). Sigh

SingToTheSky · 14/12/2020 22:42

I have been avoiding the scales as well but I can actually see I’ve put on again. FFS. This year was going so well at the start!

Onthebrink67 · 15/12/2020 08:50

Sorry I haven’t been on- fallen off the exercise and good Wagon not helped by injuring my knee so I’m hobbling. I could blame Christmas, work etc but really my head isn’t in the right place at the moment. I need to work out why i always self sabotage. Still I have signed up for 30 days with Adrienne in January and I think I will take the next couple of weeks to work out how to schedule exercise into my day so it doesn’t get pushed out by other things.

Hugs to all those with sick children and hope they are all ok for next week.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 16/12/2020 21:48

I even had to get my weighing scales out today to weigh a parcel and still avoided getting on them @SingToTheSky Grin

I always blame lack of time for my lack of exercise @Onthebrink67 but I think some of it is also my lack of organisation; if I could organise things so I could accomplish tasks more quickly/ easily then I'd have time to exercise as well. (Or of course I could make exercise a priority but that doesn't seem to happen!!) I have a friend who's doing an intensive course at the moment with a 40 minute workout per day and I just think, how do you find a spare hour a day (with clothes change, shower afterwards etc) to fit that in?! Confused

Hope your knee gets better soon!

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 20/12/2020 07:59

Hello,
I managed one additional swim and now that's illegal again.
Sorry to hear about the chicken pox

OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 21/12/2020 23:16

Are you doing anything else @Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket? Tier 4 here, I think we are banned from doing pretty much anything apart from breathing, and then only if we're quiet Hmm

I did take the DC out for two walks today. In the pouring rain. For no real reason and nowhere in particular to go. They were bouncing off the walls and I needed some fresh air... there was much grumbling but once the wellies were on they seemed to enjoy it for a short while before the moaning started

SingToTheSky · 22/12/2020 00:51

DS was covid negative thank goodness! I couldn’t get a test (felt better anyway after the fever) but got an app notification to isolate anyway, I must have checked in somewhere. Sigh.

So, I’ve not been anywhere. Finding it absolutely impossible to motivate myself to exercise at home, it seems a lot harder with everyone here. Tried booking yoga for next week but it isn’t on. Desperately hoping I can get motivated and into a routine after Christmas, my first opportunity to leave the house is Christmas Day and I’m looking forward to that even though it’ll just be a stroll to feed the ducks.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 22/12/2020 08:39

Hi @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl, yeah tier 4 here too. Pretty depressing. I've been doing as much walking as I can manage and some yoga videos just to stretch out/ calm down. One of my friends does open water swimming, which has always appealed and I'm considering starting that

OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 28/12/2020 21:22

Have you thought any more about the swimming @Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket? At the moment I'm taking the DC out for a walk/ park visit for a couple of hours a day, but it's not exactly strenuous, just keeps my step count up. I might start the kids yoga again with them now you've reminded me Grin

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas Xmas Smile
