Exercise Accountability - anyone want to be exercise buddies?

Over this year I have really lost condition and I'd like to start doing some daily exercise to make up for the fact that I'm at home all the time now. Anyone want to join me for some daily accountability?
My plan is to do at least 20 minutes of YouTube yoga each day and increase the amount I'm walking by doing long walks on my days off.

And I've done another 5k on the trampette watching a tv drama. Honestly I'm so chuffed!

SingToTheSky · 07/03/2021 17:09

That’s amazing pickle!

I’m so behind on the thread. I’ve done nothing. Not left the house in a week. Or got dressed in fact 😬

Feel like I’m in flare up and don’t have the brainpower to deal with it. Gaaah. Sorry 😳

picklemewalnuts · 07/03/2021 21:16

Flares happen. And when you only have limited focus and capacity then other things have to wait. What's important is making sure you don't waste your self, that you do the things most important to you- that might be cooking, cuddling the kids or going for a walk. No point regretting that you can't do all three, just practise choosing wisely!

SingToTheSky · 07/03/2021 21:27

Ah thanks pickle :) I’m really proud I actually managed to get my youngest to bed properly tonight with bath/stories despite feeling crap.

I may try and get outside briefly. Baby steps! I feel like I did after I had a/the virus last March and I had to build up strength again

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 11/03/2021 09:51

Hope you are feeling better @SingToTheSky? I thought I'd be full of energy this week with the DC finally back at school, but really I am exhausted still Shock not having much luck with job hunting either...

I'm doing a workout every day - usually either Joe Wicks or weights - and am making my 10K steps now I have the school run (well, walk!) twice a day, but actual energy/ motivation to tidy the house up is sadly lacking Hmm

How are you doing with the trampette @picklemewalnuts?

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2021 09:53

Still going strong! 5k most days, 10k some.

I expect you're still in recovery, Clara! It will come.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 11/03/2021 10:23

I think you may be right with recovery @picklemewalnuts Grin this lockdown seems like a long and brutal struggle!!

I've joined a group run by a local aerobics instructor (via Zoom for now) - it's a three week course to improve bone strength and tone up using weights and resistance bands. It's especially recommended for peri- and menopausal women, which is something I do worry about as my DM has osteoarthritis and I can see how painful it is for her. We start next week so I must buy some bands to use, I have the weights already.

Hopefully between that, Joe Wicks and walking more with the DC my quest to look less like Humpty Dumpty will succeed...!

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2021 12:01

Sounds like a plan!

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 14:24

Thanks clara 💐 I did get out for a walk, I think it was Monday. But then ended up crashed on the sofa all evening and the next day. On another thread I’ve been told to report this as it has been since the vaccine (it feels different to my usual bad days IYSWIM) - just my luck 😂

Needless to say I’ve done nothing else, I’m a total fraud being here atm 😳

SingToTheSky · 11/03/2021 14:24

That course sounds really good!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 14/03/2021 22:44

How are you feeling now @SingToTheSky? I agree about reporting your symptoms - at least then you should be able to get advice if you're still feeling rough Flowers

The course was really good last time I did it, a couple of years ago. I think this instructor now specialises in women's health over 40 and offers classes (and courses) accordingly! I just feel like I could be incredibly fit (I mean I'm not, but I could be!) but if I haven't done weightlifting, gentle stuff rather than massive weights, my bone strength will still be at risk because I'm probably genetically predisposed to it anyway.

Took DS1 out on his bike today which he loves. DS2 and DP can't keep up! We did plenty of walking yesterday too and I've done a short workout each day. Hoping the scales are kind to me when I next weigh in Hmm

Are you still walking too @picklemewalnuts?

picklemewalnuts · 15/03/2021 07:49

I'll look out for similar courses. It sounds great.

I'm trying to up to 10k steps three times a week, 5k the other days. So all is going well. I've dropped the strength exercises, but I think Tai chi counts. It's body weight, but strength. You maintain a low posture, so your legs and core work hard, and hold the arms away from the body in different poses as well.

The trampette is working brilliantly. DH goes on it to watch tv now as well, so we take turns!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 16/03/2021 10:29

I saw MadFit recommended on here @picklemewalnuts, she does some good weights workouts too. I like doing a 'course' because I feel like I've achieved something Grin plus this is an instructor that I've known for years, since well before the DC were born, and it's nice for me to have the social side too. (Well, a bit of chat via FB!). The instructor has already said that she'll probably keep everything on Zoom rather than going back to sports halls - even when we're allowed to - which at the moment works better for me, although I miss the group dynamic of actual in person classes.

I've heard tai chi is quite tough, all that using your core to balance etc!

Hope you are doing well too @SingToTheSky and @Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket

SingToTheSky · 21/03/2021 10:03

Fell off thread which shows how badly I’m doing! In an ideal world (well an ideal covid world) I’d be making the most of self isolation (youngest had a fever, waiting for test result) to exercise at home, but no. Still weak as a damp sponge 😳😬

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 22/03/2021 13:12

Sending Flowers here too @SingToTheSky. Hopefully with the weather improving it will be easier/ more enjoyable for you to get out and about as well! I'm planning to tidy up the garden with the DC over the Easter holidays, keep them busy that way as (obviously) there still aren't many activities around.

DS is keen to ride his bike at every opportunity at the moment so at least that has kept us busy, my step count is impressive as I try to keep up with him Grin

picklemewalnuts · 23/03/2021 20:53

Oh dear sing!

I hope the clock change helps, along with the spring.

I've been pretty consistent with my 5k and 10k step days. My Fitbit report says I've done better than the week before each time, amd that's all I ask for.

I'm feeling stronger, actually. I feel more upright, less weighed down, and as though my bones and muscles are functioning better.

Sadly my guts are disastrous 🤣. I've restarted diet fizz, but had terrible diarrhoea this afternoon. Who knows whether it's too much fibre, sauerkraut, or what!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 23/03/2021 22:30

Great news about your steps @picklemewalnuts. I'm feeling better in general too except first thing in the morning, when my feet are really ouchy to walk on! It's been like that ever since I had terrible flu a few years ago though, so I can't see it improving any time soon...

Hope you feel better soon!

picklemewalnuts · 24/03/2021 07:58

What have you tried for your feet, Clara? I've had that. The GP recommended various exercises, stretching and warming up the feet before you even get out of bed. The best thing for me was a pair of tight shoes right by the bed, swinging my feet straight into them. After a few days the
Pain really started to improve.

Basically you need to protect your feet from the shock of you standing on them Grin! The fascia is getting repeatedly torn every morning.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 26/03/2021 10:15

They didn't recommend anything @picklemewalnuts Shock but I'll try a few of those tips, thank you! I went about 8 weeks into my awful bout of flu (I still had a hacking cough, high temperature etc) but they essentially said there wasn't much they could do and just to rest, keep warm etc (like I had any chance of resting much with twin toddlers around...!). They did some blood tests and said the inflammatory markers were raised but not to the point where they'd do anything about it. I did eventually feel better but it took another couple of weeks after that, and I still feel the after effects now.

Planning lots of exercise with the DC over the Easter holidays - hopefully the weather will be kind to us! - DS1 is still very keen on cycling, we can go to the park, the garden needs sorting out etc. I'm doing a daily workout at the moment too, only 15 minutes or so but I want to keep up that habit as well.

Hope you are feeling better @SingToTheSky?
